take a look. take a look at the tree stop, snapped off about 10:00 last night. pepco crews were on the scene immediately and remain out there. you can see the overhead linemen. they have to deal with the winds, too. you think it's harrowing on the ground, imagine being up in the buckets with the wind buffeting you and the high tension, high power lines just inches away. hats off to these guys. they're working to restore power, expected to be back on in about an hour. take a look what can happen when the tree falls. the top of that tree came down on somebody's car. the poor people in this apartment complex here are waking up to a double whammy, at least one of the residents is. no power since 10:00. somebody had their car crushed. again, crews are out here. they say they will have the power on within the hour. i'm sure that is good news to the folks who are without power because of these high winds. again, that car, none the better because of the winds that

started whipping up here last night. i talked to chuck bell about this. he said about 10:00 when that tree came down on the karks probably had wind gusts of about 40 miles an hour. they had been proactive, as late as yesterday they were out here cutting off the top ofs some of these trees. but you never know which tree is going to come down in those high winds. they found out here in prince george's county. that's where we are live right off marlboro pike, derrick ward, news 4. back to you. >> just a few miles away from there a plan was killed overnight. right now we're working to find that man's name. it happened in landover on bright seed road less than a mile from fedex field. prince george's coun police say they don't know who shot the man but are working to find out. stay with news 4 as we learn more about what happened. prince george's county po right now investigating the death of a community college student in college park. last night police responded to 911 calls of an unconscious man on berwyn house road.

he was pronounced dead at the hospital. police say there is no sign of foul play, but alcohol was probably a factor in the man's death. > in decision 2014 president obama has a busy day ahead, campaigning for democrats ahead of tuesday's election. the president's fi will be in bridgeport, connecticut at a rally for dan malloy. after that he'll head to philadelphia to speak at temple university to campaign for gubernatorial candidate tom wolf. coming up at 10:15, we'll discuss the election with "meet the press" moderator chuck todd. in maryland the candidates for governor are making their final moves. today republican nominee larry hogan will be joined by new jersey governor chris christie. this is the fourth time they'll be together before the election. we told you when they campaigned in bethesda last month. they'll be in the baltimore area today. lieutenant governor anthony brown is also in the baltimore

coming down here along the national mall. we have a great event today, breathe deep d.c. for longevity for lung cancer. this is the founder jerry so, somebody i've been interviewing for the last four years. this is something where you were diagnosed in 2007 with lung cancer, you saw a void that needed to be filled. >> there was nothing in washington for lung cancer. there were events for all different diseases. for lung cancer at that point, there was no walk, no gala, no auction, nothing. >> reporte since then we now have the walk, the gala which we had a couple weeks ago. this is something, lung canning ser, everybody is a smoker. you were diagnosed. that's a big misconception. >> i was never a smoker. 60% of the people diagnosed with lung cancer are either never smokers or quit e perception th people to stop smoking, wheel cure the disease, that's wrong.

we're starting to change that with the traction we're getting here. >> rep the funding hasn't been there. you breast cancers and all these other cancers that get a lot of the funding. lung cancer kills more than most of those combined. >> it kills more people than breast cancer, colon cancer, prostate cancer combined. more than twice as many women will die of lung cancer than breast cancer. the funding has lagged behind for years. we're starting to make traction because we're starting to see the difference in the treatments coming out for lung cancer. it's going to make a huge difference. >> it has made a huge difference. again, jerry, a seven-year surviv it's really not that bad without the wind, is it? >> no. >> how many layers do we have on? 15 different layers of clo. i've got on four myself. i'm sure, angie, i'll beware ag hat. >> she's giving you a hard time. you look fine. done worry about it.

it could take federal investigators a gear to figure out what went wrong on the virgin galactic spaceship that crashed this week. on friday the spacecraft came apart over the mojave desert in california while it was on a training mission. michael alsbury died in the crash. the pilot who survived is peter sigh bold. he's alert and talking with his family. virgin ceo say it is company will continue its mission to send tourists to space. for decades the fbi has been using a huge selection of fingerprints to catch criminals. now it's offering the! n was also shot. deputies interviewing witnesses and looking for other partygoers that ran off after the shots were fired. no word on what led to the shooting. when d.c.'s gonzaga high students go back to school, they'll start the day with the prayer. dominic pettey was killed in a crash on the beltway halloween night. the service will honor pettey and four other students hurt in the crash. news 4's mollete green reports. >> repor in the light of day you can see the massive impact of the halloween night crash. the rear left side of this honda accord took the brunt of it. that's where dominic pettey of potomac was a passenger. the gonzaga high school senior pictured here on his school's ice hockey web page, was pronounced dead at the scene on the beltway. maryland state police say the honda was disabled and off the road on the shoulder around 2:00 a.m. when this gray jeep compass

hit the car. you can see there's heavy damage to its right front side. police say the driver, 24-year-old margaret baisley drifted off the road and struck the vehicle. at this point in the investigation, there is s a lot we don't know. maryland state police say the driver of the striking vehicle appeared to be impaired at the scene. and also had to be taken to the hospital for injuries she suff >> tributes to the teen poured onto social media. hours later mourners gathered at gonzaga. some friends attended st. elizabeth's catholic church in rockville where they added his name to the bo names of the dead for all saints day mass. in the meantime, no one has been charged in this horrific accident that has a school community in mourning.

police officer is off the job this morning. officials suspended kofrm miriam perez after she was arrested for drink driving. she was off duty at the time. maryland state police charged her with dui. perez has been a patrol officer for eight years. the fifth prince george's county police officer suspended since august. three of those officers are charged with assault. one faces a theft charge and another was also charged with drunk driving. as part of decision 2014, d. v. kroiters are expected to approve legalizing marijuana in two days. the new law would legalize marijuana in the district for those 21 and over. opinion polls show two-thirds of voters support legalizing marijuana. >> this is the beginning. it's not going to be perfect, but at least we're starting. >> i want to grow cannabis next year. i've never had the opportunity to legally grow cannabis. >> even if approved tuesday,

legal marijuana may not exist here until 2016. that's because the d.c. bill must remain under congressional review through next spring. then city officials will tak least six more months to write regulations. if you plan on voting in virginia tuesday, make sure you have a photo i.d. with you. it is now a requirement for the first time this year. there are lots of different kinds yog include ag driver's license, student i.d. or i.d. card from work. you can get a free photo i.d. from the same place you registered to vote. if you forget your i.d., you still vote. you'll need to submit an i.d. by friday for the vote to count. lots of people in maryland have already voted. more than 300,000 of you voted early this year. that's up from the last midterm election and more than double the number who voted early in the primaries. in prince george's county, more than 8% of you voted early. in montgomery county the turnout was about 5.5%.

bus carrying players and coaches of the redskins. so they hit their brakes which then caused the bus behind them to obviously not being aware of that and cruise right into back of them. i did reach out to players and coaches about five minutes after some me a heads up on it and i spoke to them over the phone. they were pretty shooken up. they were scared. i think this was way more than probably what it may sound like, just a bump from behind. i think it was a pretty hard hit. i'm told that as of now there are no major injuries. the team just got to the stadium now. so they are being looked at, each of the players. based on the voices of the coaches and players i spoke to over the phone, they were definitely very scared in those moments. >> so -- well, the good news is, diana, no major injuries. it looks like the coaches and all the players are going to be okay. we just saw pierre garcon tweet
