minutes. there are many other traditional events today to honor the nation's veterans. and one of the traditions is a little different this year at arlington national cemetery. usually as you see in the video here, the president takes part in a wreath laying ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldier. but this year president obama is in asia. vice president joe biden will represent him in paying respects to the nation's war heroes. in arlington u.s. senator tim kaine will attend a wreath laying ceremony at the war memorial. this is the marine corps' 239th birthday. he will speak there reminding those of the marines and how all brawn ches of military played a part. >> today the rest of us need to stop and think about all the sacrifices made by the veterans and to say thank you with the chance arising for us. 4:31. we'll take a look at the forecast for all the vets planned for today. we'll check in with meteorologist tom kierein. if you're about to leave the house and head out for events

this morning, you need a warm jacket. we are down in the 30s in the nearby suburbs. upper 40s near montgomery and prince george's. the mid to upper 30s across fairfax including loudoun and prince william and faulkier. the coolest spot in warrenton is 32. still rather cold tonight in the upper 30s. then jumping into the low 60s by noon with lots of sunshine. just a few high clouds coming in during the afternoon. then by 5:00 p.m., temperatures will be hovering in the mid to upper 60s. and that is certainly going to be perfect for all of the events going on on the mall. and then this evening, under a mostly cloudy sky, should be great weather for the concert or any evening activities. we'll be in the upper 50s by 8:00 p.m. then by 11:00 p.m., the upper 50s still. by this time tomorrow morning, rather chilly, just in the upper 40s and low 50s as we get back

people connected to a deadly shooting near a high school in prince william county. police say 16-year-old brendan wilson was shot and killed yesterday on oakwood drive near woodbridge high school in woodbridge. he was a student at the school. the shooting happened on a trail that leads to the school's parking lot. we spoke with the custodian manager as he was leaving campus. >> it is scary, very scary. >> police say the three suspects took off in a pickup truck. if you have any information, call prince william county police. school is closed today because of the holiday. at the live desk with the latest out of south korea and the sunken ferry disaster. new reports say the captain of the ferry is guilty of negligence and sentenced to 36 years. the captain along with three other crew members, they were

among the first rescued when this boat we want down killing nearly 300 people, most of them students. it's not what prosecutors wanted, though. they were pushing all along for the death penalty. aaron? 4:35 now. today the new york city doctor infected with ebola will leave the hospital. craig spencer was declared virus-free yesterday and returned to the states last month after treating ebola patients in guinea. he was monitoring his own health when he came down with a fever. spencer's release means 41 days after the first ebola diagnosis in the u.s., there are no known cases of the deadly virus in this country. in the day ahead, a man accused of abducting a woman on camera will return to the fbi. he will be transported from philadelphia to our area for a hearing today. he's accused of attacking a 22-year-old woman on the streets. right now barnes is being held

welcome back at 4:39. take a look at the first snow of the season in parts of the midwest. this is one of the hardest-hit areas in st. cloud, minnesota. looks like a big cloud out there with some areas receiving 10 to 15 inches of snow in 24 hours. and all that snow caused a mess on the roads. many cities declared snow emergencies so crews can plow the streets. if you travel overnight, you might want to hear this. starting this friday there will be rolling traffic closures on a stretch of i-66 between route 29

in centreville and the beltway. take a look here, work will happen between midnight and 2:00 a.m. all lanes will be closed for up to 30 minutes at a time. now crews there are installing a new automatic traffic management system to display travel times and roads. work will take place sunday through thursday nights with no major closures on holidays, november 26 to the 30th. in virginia they have mixed plans to close the budget gap. the measure generally passed the house assembly yesterday. this reverses an earlier decision to close the $2.4 million shortfall. state lawmakers will now search for other places to cut starting in january. all right. we are talking about a chilly start to your day. not as cold as yesterday. so hoping that means more improvement for the day, right? >> storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein is here with weather and traffic on the 1s. tom? we are in the mid to upper 40s in washington. nearby suburbs are near 40

coming up on 15 before the hour, right now a lot of police on the national mall getting ready for hundreds of thousands of you at the concert for valor tonight.

>> most roads around the national mall will be shut down for the concert. so the best option is to take metro. here are a few reminders you need to know about. all blue line trains are turning into yellow line trains all day. this will allow for faster trips from virginia to downtown. this smithsonian station will be closed as it's in the concert security zone. and nine nations near the nation mall mall including metro station will be open past midnight for concert attendees. riders must be in line to enter the station by midnight. on top of the concert, there will be big crowds headed to the caps game tonight starting at the same time as the concert. 7:00 p.m. the caps fans may want to leave extra early to make sure you get to the verizon center in time for the puck drop. we'll be working to keep you ahead of the closures and delays. before the big concert tonight, there will be more traditional veterans day ceremonies across the area. defense secretary chuck hagel

will pay service to members at the vietnam veterans memorial marking 30 years since the dedication of the three servicemen statue at the memorial. the event begins at 1:00 p.m. and is open to the public. angie goff at the live desk where we want to take you to beijing, china. where day two of the apec summit is underway and president obama is in another round of meetings to include several with the chinese president. now after the u.s. announced a new trade deal with china. also happening, president obama had a brief conversation with russian president vladimir putin. it appears on top of things, everything on the surface looked friendly, but hearing nothing major was discussed. things like sanctions against russia for the recent movement in ukraine. now after this the president heads to myanmar. we'll be following it all. thank you. the montgomery county school board will vote to remove or add religious holidays to the calendar next year.

the muslim community wants to add their holiday to the calendar because of schools closing for the jewish holidays right now. the district says they do that for high absentee rates which do not happen on the other holidays. >> the absentee rate on the holidays when they fall on school days has been considerably higher or lower than any other given day. >> next year ede and yom kipper fall on school days. the grand injury indicted gary henkins as a teenager boy said he had sex with him at his office in alexandria. the boy's mother noticed inappropriate text messages and called police. we reached out to his employer but have not heard back. the company removed his information from its website.

if convicted, henkins could face 30 years in prison. a maryland man pled guilty to raping a woman in her 80s. the judge sentenced michael pinke to 20 years in prison after picking up the woman at a bus stop in june. he took her to a wooded area where he sexually assaulted her. his attorney said he was going through a mental breakdown. this morning people are still cleaning up following a water main break that caused raw sue sanlg to pour into their homes in northern virginia. this happened along south jordan street in alexandria not far from landmark mall. here's a look at one backyard in the area. you can see the furniture soaked with sewer water stacked up here. the water company virginia american brought in serve pro to clean up the mess, but the neighbors worry the biggest mess is not their property. >> we see them running around with white uniforms on. we don't have nothing on. we're going to have health

out, we are going to be hovering in the 30s to near 40s for another few hours in prince george's and fairfax county. warrenton is down to 32. the mid-30s in prince william and loudoun county. and farther south, stafford and spotslvania, we are near 40 degrees. the skycast 4, for most of the day we see sunshine. a few high clouds will be drifting over. by noontime, mostly sunny near washington. we'll have a few clouds coming in. and by 5:00 as we get dark, yeah, the sun sets at 4:58. just a few clouds will be coming through for the rest of the evening. and for the afternoon, absolutely delightful on the mall. everyone is getting ready for the concert arriving early. mostly sunny. you'll need your sunglasses with temperatures in the upper 60s.

a gorgeous afternoon coming up. then this evening, under a partly to mostly cloudy sky. by 8:00 p.m., back down to the upper 50s. then by late evening as the concert ends, we'll be into the upper 50s. so still the mid to upper 50s. then bottoming out in the low 50s by dawn tomorrow. so a milder start. but a bit of a chill in the air on wednesday morning. then winds will pick up during the day tomorrow. highs will struck to make it to the low 50s. might get an afternoon shower on thursday. but then friday much colder with 20s in the morning. the afternoon highs in the mid-40s with lots of sunshine. lit stay cold on saturday, too. temperatures just near 30 degrees saturday morning. saturday afternoon, highs just in the mid 40s. and still quite chilly on sunday. now sunday mainly in the afternoon and evening into monday we are probably going to get showers with highs near 50 both sunday and again on monday.

this morning families in d.c.'s shaw neighborhood are concerned a sports facility could hurt their community. the washington wizards are wanting to build a new practice facility in the same place as a popular park. >> this space is used 24/7 right now. if you put a practice facility here, that is used two to three hours a day, it will change the nature of the neighborhood. >> the complex would cost $40 million. d.c. council member jack evans is committed to keeping the dog and skate parks where they are today. it's now 4:56. a group is meeting in montgomery county today to protest cell phone towers at your child's

school. the county district plans to build one at clemente middle school in germantown. the towers can cause health and safety issues from radiation or potential accidents. they also believe state schools have not been transparent enough about where those towers will be built. police need your help catching a man they say is robbing people at hotel rooms at gun point. this happened four times over the weekend in manassas and woodbridge. they also think he's connected to a fifth case. we'll take a look at the surveillance pictures. the man wears a black beanie with a white cloth wrapped around his face. he shows a gun, demands cash and takes off. if you recognize him, call the prince william county police. two virginia teens pleaded guilty to creating an online collection of nude pictures of their classmates. "the washington post" reports the teens created file sharing account with pictures of 56 girls from mcclain high school in fairfax county. the 15 and 16-year-olds pleaded

guilty to three misdemeanor charges. and they were ordered off social media. if you live in fairfax and loudoun county marked january 6th on your calendar, there's a special election for many of you to pick a new state delegate. the seat was left open by republican barbara comstock elected to the house of representatives. one democrat and two republicans are vying for the seat. the gop will hold a firehouse primary on friday to pick their candidate. arlington county public schools just earned a new title to land it in the top 50 best school districts in the country. the website miche lists more than,0 8,000 schools based on their academics, teachers and diversity. falls church took the 98th spot. >> we have a lot of good schools in our area, right? let's check the forecast when we come back.
