we'll still be in the upper 30s to near 40s by 8:00. low 60s and hitting the upper 60s by 3:00. back down to the mid-60s by 5:00 p.m. the forecast for this evening, we'll have that coming up in ten minutes. now melissa is looking at the traffic problems this tuesday morning. we have chopper over 66 at route 50, you can see the volume headed in. everybody is moving. nothing in the way. that's a good thing. taking a look at 95 in virginia, if you're hopping on in stafford county and headed north, you're completely fine. nice and green here at the 6:00 hour headed south. same thing, no issues right now. the beltway at kenilworth avenue is looking good. again, we are moving along quite nicely. 270 at middlebrook road, no problem there is. a wider look at things, the inner loop and outer loop, everything is moving quite nicely. headed in or out of town, we are

looking good. i'm back at 6:11 with weather and traffic on the 1s. we'll talk about the travel times then. 6:02 and hundreds of thousands of you will pack the mall for the concert for valor today. it starts on the national mall at 7:00 tonight. >> we're working for you with live team coverage of everything that is happening. megan mcgrath is live on the mall right now with a concert preview. megan, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning. you can see the stage behind me here. it's all ready to go. and we're seeing some activity. it's a little early this morning, but we're also seeing a lot of activity in terms of zurt. and that's something people are going to want to keep in mind. we're expecting tight security. we're starting to see it already. there are also going to be a lot of road closures. also, many, many people will be walking around town. lots of pedestrians as they come down to secure spots for the concert. all these things people should keep in mind and plan accordingly. now yesterday we got a sneak preview of the concert during the sound check and rehearsals. this is carrie underwood doing

her soundcheck. other performers are bruce springsteen, spring rihanna and eminem will be here, just to name a few. you must pass through a security checkpoint. whether you're coming as a member of the general public or if you have a ticket, there are a few ticketed guest that is have to pass through checkpoints as well. the checkpoints open at 10:00 this morning. you're advised to pack light. the rule of thumb here, it's similar to a july 4th celebration. don't bring any chairs or alcohol. they are not going to let you in with that sort of thing. the concert gets underway at 7:00, although we're expecting people to show up much earlier than that, especially those who want to get close to the stage. which is in the area near 4th street. we have jumbotrons scattered around. so if you can't get close, you

can catch the action on the jumbotrons. but things will pick up in the next few hours when the gates open at 10:00 a.m. megan mcgrath, news4. back to you guys. thank you, megan. tell us how you are excited for the concert on our nbcwashington facebook page. hbo is hosting the concert to raise awareness for the challenges our veterans face. the co-sponsor starbucks is planning to hire 10,000 veterans in the next five years. four minutes after the hour. the man accused of ab ducking a woman in the philadelphia neighborhood will be turned over to the fbi. the court records show that agents will transport delvin barnes from philadelphia to our area this morning. he's accused of abducting a 22-year-old woman off the street. the attack was apparently random. right now barnes is being held for the attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl last month in charles city county, virginia. police are looking for three people who took off in a pickup truck following the deadly

shooting of a teenager near the high school there. police say that the 16-year-old brendan wilson was shot and killed yesterday on oakwood drive near woodbridge high school. they say he was a student at the school. that shooting happened on a trail that leads to the school's parking lot. the school is closed today because of the holiday. a crisis team will be on hand tomorrow when students return. the new york city doctor infected with ebola will leave the hospital later today. the man was declared virus-free after treating ebola patients in guinea. he was monitoring his own health when he came down with a fever. spencer's release means 41 days after the first ebola diagnosis in the u.s. there are now no known cases of the deadly virus in this country. 6:05 now. larry hogan will be in st. mary's county today marching in the leonardtown veterans day parade. the new governor-elect says this is his first stop on the statewide tour to thank voters

for electing him. he plans to visit each of the state's 23 counties and baltimore. he beat anthony brown last week in one of the biggest upset wins in the country. a yearly tradition in arlington national cemetery will look a little different this veterans day. usually president obama takes place in the wreath laying on the tomb of the unknown soldier as you see in the video from last year. this year joe biden will represent the president who isover seas in asia. inches of snow and it is still falling. the emergee dealing with this e heavy snow. plus, millions of happy meal toys deemed dangerous. the issue in millions of toys that left two children coughing up pieces of plastic. and if you're heading out to the concert for valor, we just told you about the forecast. we'll help you plan what to wear at 6:11.

we are working for you this morning with a consumer alert. mcdon nadalcdonald's is recalli million hello kitty whistles that came in your happy meal. parts inside the whistle can detach and that poses a choking hazard. so far there are two reports of children coughing out pieces of this whistle. if you have it, take it back to mcdonald's for a free replacement, a yogurt tube or bag of apple slices. d.c. and a lot of other places have decriminalized marijuana. and researchers at the university of texas found chronic marijuana users had smaller brain volume in the area linked to addiction. but the research also showed increased brain activity.

right now president obama is about to join china's president for a private dipper. now this follows an announcement of a trade deal with the country of china. the president has been meeting with world leaders throughout day two of the big apec summit. among those he spoke with, that was russian president vladimir putin. we're hearing they department talk about the big issues like aaron and ukraine. the president heads to myanmar next. aaron? angie, thank you. new this morning, the captain of the south korea ferry that sank in april was sentenced to 36 years in prison. the chief engineer giving 30 years and 13 other crew members to be sentenced up to 20 years in prison. more than 300 people died in that accident. prosecutors say the crew's negligence and abandonment of passengers caused the deaths. the british and portuguese police looking into the disappearance of madeleine mccann will question three new

suspects this month. all seven reportedly know each other and exchanged phone calls the night the 3-year-old vanished from the hotel room in portugal in 2007. we are learning new information about a violent home invasion in fairfax county. investigators say the people involved all knew each other and are lawyers. the attack may be linked to a workplace argument. police searched for clues last night at a home on spencer road in mcclain. police say a man and woman living at the home were stabbed by a couple who came to the door on sunday night. the victims suffered life-threatening injuries. state lawmakers in virginia will not use highway money to close the budget gap. the measure easily passed both measures in the general assembly yesterday reversing an earlier decision to call for $50 million from the highway fund to be used to help close the budget shortfall. state lawmakers will search for other places to cut starting in january. this morning one d.c. council member says he's very concerned about the city's

homeless this winter. ward 1 council member jim graham wants the city to release how many total shelters there will be. right now there are only 350 units guaranteed to be available with about 800 homeless families expected to need somewhere to stay. d.c.'s human services director says the city is signing contracts for more space. and snow is already falling in parts of the upper midwest. some areas of minnesota already got more than 10 inches of snow in 24 hours. the weather channel's mike seidel is joining us live from forest lake, minnesota. what is it like out there, mike? >> reporter: hey, aaron, good morning. we have a few snowflakes flying by the camera. we picked up 9 inches north of minneapolis-s . paul. over in wisconsin and the u.p. of michigan where it is still snowing pretty hard, the top total we have seen is 16.5. it is cold, too. yesterday's highs were in the

teenager boy at his office in alexandria. the boy's mother noticed inappropriate text messages and called police. we reached out to sources where hankins worked but have not heard back. they removed his information from the company's website. if convicted he could face 30 years in prison. police need your help catching this man robbing people at hotel rooms at gunpoint. this has happened four times over the weekend in manassas and woodbrim. they also think he's connected to a fifth case. take a look at the surveillance pictures. the man wears a black beanie and white cloth wrapped around his face. he shows a gun, demands cash and takes off. if you recognize the man, call prince william county police. today the montgomery county school board will vote to add or remove religious holidays from his calendar. right now the district takes off for krchristian and jewish holidays but not the muslim wants. the muslim holidays do not

create an abundance of absences like the other holidays do. arlington public schools just earned a new title that landed it in the top 50 best school districts in the country. the website gave arlington the 38th spot. the list ranks more than 8,000 schools based on categories like academics, teachers, health and safety and student culture and diversity. the only local school to crack the top 100 was the city of falls church to take the 98th spot. you in fairfax and loudoun counties will head to the polls on january 6 to pick a new state delegate left open by republican barbara comstock elected to the u.s. house of representatives. one democrat and two republicans are vying for the seat. the gop will hold a firehouse primary on friday to pick their candidate. there will be events all across our area to remember our nation's war heroes today. in arlington, u.s. senator tim kaine will attend a wreath laying at a marine corps

right now news4 is working to get you up to the minute the minute you're up. >> we'll go live to kristen who is live where they are making metro changes. good morning, kristen. >> reporter: 800,000 people are expected at the concert for valor, so here's what you need to know. yellow line trains are replacing blue line trains to mean faster, more frequent service. all stations are open today except smithsonian because it's within the security zone for the

concert. metro rail is running until midnight. nine stations near the national mall will stay open past midnight only to accommodate those people who are already in line at midnight. we do have a list of those nine stations and the rest of what you need to know about metro today on our nbcwashington facebook page. trains are starting off today on a saturday schedule running every 12 minutes and gradually ramping up to rush hour service. that's every two to three minutes in most places immediately before and after the concert. metro bus service will run on a saturday schedule with extra trips earlier and later in the day for people going to and from work. now, here's something interesting to keep in mind. for the annual july 4th celebration, metro carries about 200,000 people away from the mall after the fireworks. and we're talking about 800,000 people today. live in northwest, kristen

charges. the judge sentenced hem to two days in the juvenile detention center and ordered them off social media. the man accused of abducting a woman in the street will be turned over to the fbi. court agents show delvin barnes being removed from central virginia to pennsylvania for a hearing tomorrow. he's accused of abducting a 22-year-old woman. the random attack is caught on camera as you can see here. barnes is being held for the attempted murder of a 16-year-old girl last month in charles city county, virginia. six minutes before the hour n a few minutes on the "today" show we'll hear from the bush family. jenna bush-hager spoke to her father and her grandfather talking about how they handled criticism during their presidencies. >> it made me angry. and i wasn't disciplined enough not to watch television. when i became president, i was disciplined enough to ignore all the noise.
