no lives have been lost. nbc's jennifer bjorklund is live with the latest. >> reporter: here a few blocks from where michael brown was killed, chaos overnight after word there is no indictment against police officer darren wilson. businesses torched, a police car ablaze, looting and violence met with tear gas punctuated by automatic gunfire. >> i know there's at least a dozen buildings that have been set on fire. most of those are total losses. and i can tell you that i personally heard about 150 shots fired. >> reporter: outcry from a community angry over the grand jury's decision not to indict officer darren wilson in the shooting of unarmed teenager michael brown. st. louis county prosecutor robert mcculla stressing the panelist of nine whites and

three blacks are the only ones who have examined all the evidence. >> they met on 25 separate days in the last three months, heard more than 70 hours of testimony from about 60 witnesses. >> reporter: witnesses and evidence he says indicate brown scuffled with officer wilson as wilson tried to get out of his patrol car. his gold unholstered, discharged twice. among the documents released, the pictures of wilson's injuries after the shooting. president obama spoke from the white house after the announcement. >> to those in ferguson, there are ways of channeling your concern constructively and there are ways of channeling your concerns destructively. michael brown's parents understand what it means to be constructive. the vast majority of people protesters, they understand it as well. >> reporter: but the others swarmed the streets torching buildings, destroying businesses. >> our community is about to

made before the decision came out last night. and angie goff is live at the live desk with more. >> take a look at these photos of officer wilson showing a slightly bruised face and neck that were taken at the hospital after the shooting. according to the records, he was in the hospital for about two hours. these jurors heard more than 70 hours of testimony from about 60 different witnesses. some of the things that standout, wilson said as he tried to open his cruiser door, brown slammed it back shut and then said he pushed brown with that door trying to reopen it. and that's when brown hit him in the face. wilson had never fired his gun on duty before the shooting. he ended up firing it a dozen times. brown was running through the shots. also, the medical examiner never took photographs at the scene and we learned that through the documents that was not done because the camera battery had

after shooting and killing unarmed teenager michael brown in august. gunfire was heard throughout the city. so far no deaths have been reported. right now demonstrations are being held in cities across america protesting the grand jury's decision not to indict officer wilson in the shooting death of michael brown. angie goff has been following overnight developments from the live desk. >> aaron, you mentioned the protests continue to be widespread from new york to california and in between. we'll take you to chicago where hundreds marched downtown chanting "whose streets? our streets!" they continue to shout outside police headquarters right now. and in new york city, 1,000 people marched from union square to upper manhattan chanting "no justice no peace." and take a look at a protester who sprayed fake blood on the nypd commissioner bill bratton walking through times square. out in oakland, california, dozens surrounding police and blocking off traffic on a major interstate but no arrests were

made there. we are going to continue to follow the unrest and bring you the very latest. eun? >> angie goff, thank you. right here in washington, news4's jackie benson watched hundreds of protesters arrive at the white house. dozens of secret service officers and d.c. police stepped back as a rally crowded lafayette park and pennsylvania avenue a. the protesters said they were committed to peaceful demonstration. >> we had some police officers follow us down seventh street, but we kept telling them this was a peaceful protest and insisted it was peaceful. >> d.c. mayor elect muriel bowser said, as washingtonians we'll stand with michael brown's family and their work to find peaceful solutions working tirelessly for change and learning to better understand one another.

many of the protesters started on u street. police shut that road down and then the demonstrators marched a mile and a half shouting "hands up don't shoot." a lot of people were on their way to the white house as well. shortly after the grand jury decision, the naacp said it will embark on a 120-mile journey for justice starting this saturday. demonstrators will walk from ferguson, missouri, to the governor's mansion in jefferson city. they are demanding new leadership of the ferguson police department. they also want changes in the police culture in ferguson and across the country. that march is expected to take seven days. and you can stay on top of all the developments from ferguson with our nbc washington app. we've also posted video of the protests in our area on nbc washington's facebook page. 4:48. you'll have several opportunities to pay your final respects to former d.c. mayor marion barry. starting today, you can sign a book of condolences at the wilson building in downtown

washington. you can stop by the lobby today, tomorrow and friday during business hours. next tuesday barry's body will lie in repose at the wilson building. his funeral will happen at the washington convention center. no date has been set. barry died early sunday morning from heart problems. barry's annual award of a turkey giveaway will go on as planned today. it is a thanksgiving tradition for many families. megan mcgrath is live at the union temple baptist church in southeast washington with more. megan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, eun. the annual turkey giveaway was an event very important to marion barry. when he died early sunday morning, his staff was very quick to spread the word that the turkey giveaway would happen this year. that there was going to be a schedule, in fact, in the days prior to marion barry's death, he was planning and getting ready for this event. take a look at the tweet his staff put out. they said, spread the word, everyone. mayor barry's staff will distribute 3,000 turkeys and

rain changing to wet snow. so some of the roads are wet and slushy around the metro area. any accumulation is on the grassy areas. however, to our west that is where it is going to be mostly all snow accumulations likely. shenandoah valley and many roads will be slippery, the untreated surfaces in that winter storm watch will be slick. temperatures in the mid-50s throughout much of the region. near 60 in the southern suburbs and around the bay through central virginia where we are seeing the low to mid-60s holding the warmth from yesterday. here's the timing of the rain moving in after midnight tonight. all the area in green is rain. the area here in the pink is a mix of rain and snow. and to the west there, that is all snow. that is by 8:00 tomorrow morning. but still raining here. then by around noontime, we'll have a mix with some wet snow here. and then to our north and west, it's just all snow for the shenandoah valley with a mix of rain and snow in the metro area and quickly ending by 5:00 p.m.
