>> that's right, david. and chilly throughout the day today. another day where temperatures are running below average. in addition to that, i'm tracking some light snow this morning, well to the north of the d.c. metro area. it's already showing signs of breaking up. but you can see snow here in frederi frederick, carroll, washe of th panh of west virginia. very light in nature. this comes to an end by 8:00, 9:00 am. making its way into northern montgomery county. satellite and radar, cloudy this morning. plenty of clouds around this morning with the temperature of 36 degrees. that's where we'll be at 9:00 am, as we work our way into the midday hours, we'll start to see more sunshine, breaking out. partly to mostly cloudy skies. 3:00 this afternoon we hit our high of 47 degrees. a touch warmer than it was yesterday but noticeably warmer tomorrow for sunday. i'll have sunday's forecast coming up in a little bit, angie. >> amelia, thanks.

on i-76 near the exit for route 29. this happened just a few hours ago. police say nobody was seriously hurt. one person was taken to the hospital, however. one car, we know, did overturn and police shut down all the lanes at first but traffic now is getting by. >> this morning, d.c. police investigating a sexual assault they say happened on thanksgiving. the victim? a trann has more. >> reporter: according to the police report, the victim, a 29-year-old transgender woman, say she was sexually assaulted inside a bathroom in the the building at 1639 r street northwest that houses a two-level bar and lounge. the report indicate the victim provided a detailed description of the suspect. she said he was a white man in his 20s, 6'1" to 6'3" with shoulder-length blond hair, wearing a dark blue hoodie, blue jeans with gray, black and red nike cross trainer shoes.

management at level one, which carries the address of 1639 r street tell news 4 they had not been made aware of the alleged crime until we told them. they said the bar did not open until 7:00 pm yesterday to give employees time with their families and that two managers were inside alone, preparing to open from approximately 5:30 until unlocking the front door for business at 7:00. jackie bensen, news 4 today. the d.c. trans coalition released a statement saying, quote, our first priority is ensuring that the survivor's needs are addressed in the aftermath of the assault. they go on to say anti-transgender attacks tend to be more violent than other bias-related assaults. sex assault near a middle school. paul xavier williams and another man stun gunned, kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman on

thursday near kelly miller middle school northeast. williams had been arrested two days before the alleged assault for an unrelated assault. a judge let him go before his court date. so far this year, there have been more than 80 crimes within just a few blocks of this school. we're also following a developing story this morning. one person is dead and another hurt after a shooting inside a chicago department store. the shooting was not related to the black friday rush. police say a man shot his girlfriend inside a nordstrom's and then turned the gun on himself. the woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition. the shooter died at the scene. you could see former ravens player ray rice play again this year. he doesn't have a team to play for right now but the judge overturned his indefinite suspension for assault. chris palone tells us why.

>> over turning the indefinite suspension of rice, calling it arbitrary. roger goodell suspended rice twice, first in june for two games after learning of the elevator incident and then again in september when tmz released graphic video of rice punching his then fiance. the players union argued he was being punished twice for the same offense. they claimed they hadn't seen the tape and rice's story wasn't consistent with what was on it. but barbara jones didn't buy it. after careful consideration of all the evidence, i am not perfe persuaded that rice lied to n h interview. i made an inexcusable mistake. i'm thankful there was a proper appeals process in place to address the issue. an nfl spokesman said the league respects the decision. in an exclusive interview to air on nbc this coming monday and tuesday, the "today" show's matt

scary moments for black friday shoppers. fight broke out near the food court of the anapolis mall. police say there were no injuries, nobody was hurt and everything quickly went back to normal. the fbi has a whole lot of background checks to do after a possible record number of gun to usa today, the agency received about three background check requests per second yesterday. it's required to send the results back within three business days. the reports say 600 agents are working 17-hour days to get everything done. black friday may be over, but local retailers are hoping you keep shopping today for small business saturday. in maryland, store also string white lights in their windows, the fifth small business saturday. american express started the

at 6:14, new this morning, hosni mubarak has been acquitted of the charges that stem from the 2011 protest that eventually removed him from office. they dropped the case against him this morning and also the corruption charges. his son was also acquitted of murder, serving a three-year sentence under house arrest for embezzlement. nigerian mosque, 81 people were left dead today as gunmen opened fire and left bombs. boko haram is believed to be behind the attack. in austin, texas, miss are working to find out why a man tried to set the mexican consulate on fire. they found propane canisters in

story. >> i thought i was going to die. >> reporter: cousins jason and elijah had good reason to be scared after they were trapped in a snow bank for hours. >> me and my cousin, we couldn't feel part of our bodies. i couldn't feel my legs. he couldn't feel the whole half of his body. >> reporter: wednesday night, the boys were building a snow fort in the parking lot of their newburg apartment building when a snow plow unknowingly pushed a pile of snow on top of them. >> we got scared. we started screaming and telling him to stop but he didn't hear us. >> reporter: when the boys missed their 9:00 pm curfew, jason's mom, police and neighbors launched an all-out search. the two newburg police officers who initially responded are her heroes. >> i just want to say they went above and beyond looking for my boys, for both of them. they wouldn't give up. they were out there in the cold. >> reporter: officer brandon

highs today will be in the mid to upper 40s. still chilly today. warmer weather is waiting in the wings. it will get here monday -- or it will get here tomorrow and last through monday. if you are traveling this weekend, today or tomorrow, we're look at generally quiet travel weather. our next chance of rain holds off until monday night. monday into tuesday, we could also see a little bit of wet snow mixing n similar to our last storm it's not looking like the temperatures are cold enough really for any accumulation. right now, temperatures are in the 20s and 30s. 36 in washington. 28 in manassas and gaithersburg. plenty of clouds across the area. we'll keep the clouds for the morning hours. in the midday and afternoon hours, more sunshine comes out. 47 is the high today in washington. 46 for you in annapolis and 43 in winchester. the clouds break up as we work our way toward that lunchtime hour. mostly cloudy skies. everybody is dry at that point.

noon, notice how future weather is starting to bring in more sunshine and getting into the afternoon hours. we'll have some peeks of sun. the clouds look to win out. tomorrow, the temperatures will be warmer and we'll have more sunshine. tomorrow definitely the better of the two weekend days. as far as hanging lights, getting the tree or skiing is concerned for the most part as long as you're dressed appropriately, the weather is looking good. hanging lights, definitely need the gloves because of the chill in the air. getting the tree? make sure the kids are bundled up. skiing? go today versus tomorrow because the temperatures today are colder so the snow will have better conditions. your planner for tomorrow, high temperature of 60 means it will be noticeably warmer than today. we start off cool, though. no surprise there. 37 at 7:00 am on your sunday morning. temperatures letter in the mid 50s, even 5:00 in the evening, temperatures still in the mid 50s. and then as we look toward monday, jumping ahead to monday

notice them, not considered their plight and what's going on in their life. >> reporter: unrecognized by his new neighbors, the pastor spent his days looking for food and worrying about where he would sleep at night. he didn't preach. he didn't prophetize. he just listened. >> i think i began to experience how people ignore others. i became the one ignored. people walked by me like i didn't exist. >> reporter: which for cole was a life-changing experience. until then, cole perhaps pitied the homeless, but he honestly lacked compassion for them. >> it might be like, man, those people just need to get a job. they need to get themselves out of the hole they've dug for themselves. >> reporter: holes, he found, that were filled with addiction and mental illness, bad breaks and bad decisions. who was he not to help? >> they mattered to god. they mattered to me. now i'm trying to figure out why it is they didn't matter to me

could be a warm-up. some people like the weather as it is, it's the time of year. others of us would like to have it a little bit warmer. >> that's right. the people who are appreciating the cooler, more wintry like weather can appreciate today. and those of you who want the warmer temperatures, look forward to tomorrow. typically we look to find highs in the 50s this year. we will be below average once again. as we said, we're looking to warmer weather in our future. current temperatures in the upper 20s and 30s across the area. 36 is the temperature in washington, going for that morning run. here is how temperatures will warm up this morning. low to mid 30s through 9:00 am. upper 30s by 10:00 am. once we hit the midday hours, temperatures warm into the mid 40s. so you definitely need the winter gear out there this morning. those warmer layers. by the afternoon, maybe a bit of a lighter jacket would be okay. but plenty of clouds in the forecast for today. you can see even around noon, still mostly to partly cloudy skies.

company there. about 85% of the stores in old town and del rey are small businesses. a prince george's county police officer is off the job after being arrested in atlantic city. steven varga was arrested of simple assault and disorderly conduct. he wasn't on duty. he has been with the department for a year and is now on suspension. more fallout from the ferguson verdict. in california, hundreds of protesters interrupted the macy's tree lighting ceremony in union square last night. that, of course, in san francisco. smashed windows and set off fire works. an officer was also hurt after a protester threw a bottle at a police car. in new york city, seven people arrested during protests. about 100 people marched through macy's flagship store in herald square. the group held signs and chanted "black friday doesn't matter." no injuries reported there. here in the district,

several protests are planned as a response to the events in ferguson, missouri. at 8:00 am, groups meet at union station and also at noon in georgetown for a march. around the country, thousands of people put down their wallets on black friday and picked up signs to call for justice for michael brown. nbc's ron allen has the story. >> reporter: a wave of protes r protesteh a glitzy st. louis mall demanding justice for michael brown. >> black lives don't matter, black friday shouldn't matter. >> reporter: urging shoppers to shut their wallets and focus on issues like justice and poverty instead of buying more stuff and the best holiday bargains. aren't you pushing it a bit? >> yeah, because it needs to be pushed a bit. we need to get people's attention. >> reporter: stores closed security gates. shoppers tried to keep it in stride. >> you can shop and learn about

civics at the same time. >> reporter: so far, police are standing back, letting them do what they want to do. several hours later, police briefly shut down the st. louis galleria mall. it spread on social media, twitter #blackout black friday. >> hands up. >> don't shop. >> reporter: demonstrators in the aisles of macy's, the world's largest store. and on the streets of chicago's magnificent mile. >> getting the best sale is just silly when people's lives are being wrecked every single day. >> reporter: protesters stopped trains in and out of san francisco for over an hour. in ferguson, where hundreds of businesses, many family owned, struggled to recover from months of unrest, juanita morris, who lost her boutique, says it's misdirected. >> i don't feel that the business had anything to do with what happened. when you hurt the business, you hurt people that have jobs. >> reporter: a day of protest and prayers for the family of

michael brown. a vigil in florida where the parents of trayvon martin, a day after tweeting a picture of their thanksgiving, empty chair at the table. >> and on monday, missouri's governor jay nixon will ask the state's general assembly to free up more money to pay for extra law enforcement officers in the ferguson area. protesters have been going on since the grand jury's recent decision not to indict the officer who fatally shot michael brownback in august. new this morning, virginia one step closer to allowing people to legally carry marijuana. according to the times dispatch, a bill that would decriminalize the drug is on track to be presented to the general assembly. in addition to decriminalization, it would reduce the criminal penalties for selling pot in the commonwealth. it's being introduce bid state senator edmond. a dog who died fr e

. a doctor who died from ebola will be buried today. his funeral will be in annapolis this afternoon. according to the washington post, many of them don't want the stigma associated with the virus. they say it could scare other patients away. however, the post says their reluctance could make it difficult for the government to set up a network of hospitals to effectively deal with the deadly disease. trying to score a black friday deal landed a father in trouble with child welfare services. plus -- >> a package thief was caught on this home surveillance camera. i'll tell you what the homeowner says police should be doing to combat this problem. we're tracking a temperature swing in your extended forecast in less than ten minutes.

some of this not even hitting the ground. checking the latest reports out of frederick, out of the airport there. not reporting any rain or snow. just overcast skies. hagerstown is reporting light snow. this, though, comes to an end, as i said, in the next few hours. notice as we add in the clouds, everybody looking at a cloudy start on this saturday morning. however, if you're traveling today or tomorrow, for the most part, we are looking at quiet travel weather across the area. no major systems impacting roads or if you're flying out of the area. and if you're visiting, hope you're having a nice visit. temperatures will continue to warm up through monday. low 60s for monday and then after that, we dip right back down. chance of rain comes in monday night. temperatures still holding in the 20snd 30s across the area. we're now at 36 in washington, right at freezing in leesburg and winchester. 28 in culpeper. it's a cold start this morning. you can see temperatures closer in, for the most part, in the 30s as well. 8:00 am, still in the 30s.
