team makes an offer to ray rice. the former baltimore raven had his suspension for domestic abuse overturned. right now he's a free agent. police in austin, texas, are working to find out why a man shot at dozens of buildings there, including police headquters. they say he also tried to set the mexican consulate on fire. good saturday morning. welcome back to news 4 today. i'm angie goff. >> a chilly start to the morning. amelia segal is in for chuck. i think amelia has stepped outside. you've got the layers on now. >> and the scarf. >> angie and i wondering when we can shed those layer. >> tomorrow we're looking at warmer temperatures. today, though, it will be on the chilly side. not just this morning but throughout the entire day. this morning, though, sun starting to make an appearance. today, partly to mostly cloudy skies. temperature right now of 37 grease. winds out of the southeast at 6 miles an hour. there's a bit of a

here. we're not looking at breezy conditions really throughout the day. yesterday we had that, today not the case. midday and afternoon hours. we'll warm into the low 40s by 11:00 am. and then once we hit 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 pm we hover around 47 degrees. that will be our high temperature for the day. now tomorrow will be noticeably warmer. in addition to that, we'll have more sunshine. temperatures continue to climb through monday. and then the chance of rain arrives on monday night. i'll be breaking down all of the details in my full forecast coming up in just over ten minutes. angie and david? >> amelia, thanks. it's small business saturday today. this is the fifth year for the event that asks you to avoid the big box stores and, quote, shop small. >> that's right. zachary kiesch is live in one of the best spots to do just that. zach? >> reporter: hey, dafbvid. i was at the mall yesterday. the focus was about the big box

stores. today, as you mentioned, the focus is small businesses. a small business doing big things. i'm here with a small business administration, administrator maria contrera sweet who will tell us more about why this day is so important. maria? >> we are here to make small business a really big deal. today's economy is so strong. we have now created over 10 million jobs in the last few years. two out of three new jobs are being created by small businesses. we've had 56 months of consecutive job growth. so, this is why we're celebrating small businesses, because they've created all this job growth. two out of three new jobs being created by small business? that's unbelievable. >> the time is now to get out and do some shopping. you mentioned to me that this is a fairly new concept. only about five years this has been going on. is that right? >> that's right. it's already organic. people just instinctively want to celebrate small.

and so we created small business saturday to promote the idea that, yes, large box stores are important. america needs the big corporations to compete internationally. but we also want the local unique flavors, the special gifts out of a boutique that was handmade, craft makers of america. they're the ones that create a culture in the community. they're the destination. and so -- more important thing is they're creating local jobs, hiring our families. i went to visit a restaurant recently and she said she had been running her restaurant for 25 years. and she said she was ready to say good-bye and said, you know, i had a good run. she looked around. she employed 50 employees and she said, i can't do that. i'm going to sign up for another ten years, because i'm committed to these employees. they're my family. that's how small business people think. >> get out, do a little shopping and do the right thing, right? can we expect to see some deals

if you're a shopper, hitting some of the small businesses today? are there other deals to be found? >> two things about shopping small at small businesses. one, you're dealing with usually the person who made it, the shop owner who can talk to you and explain to you how the product works, tell you about its characteristics. but, yes, then able to negotiate. they're in a better position. but, you know, the big deal really is that they're creating jobs in a local community. i hope people aren't going just for the sales but for the unique item that they're picking up. you know, i hope that anybody who is interested in starting their own small business will think about going to sba.gov. anybody that wants to start or grow their business, go to sba.gov to continue to grow your business. >> beautiful. thank you so much. appreciate it. >> sorry. i just want to share one more thing. as with we talk about talking small, we're adding dining small. our restaurants need a big push.

free parking in alexandria. prepare for that. more fallout from the ferguson verdict, the decision rather. in california, hundreds of protesters interrupted the macy's tree lighting ceremony in san francisco. smashed businesses, windows and set off fireworks. an officer was also hurt after a protester threw a bottle at a police car. in new york city, seven people arrested during protests. about 100 people marched through macy's flagship store in herald square chanting "black friday doesn't matter." no injuries reported there. >> here. ♪ district, several protests are planned. several groups met at union station. grops will be meeting to prepare for a march. hundreds put away their wallets for black friday and took to the

small with signs. >> reporter: surging through a glitzy st. louis mall demanding justice for michael brown and more. >> if black lives don't matter, black friday shouldn't matter. >> reporter: urging shoppers to shut their wallets and focus on issues like justice and poverty instead of buying more stuff and the best holiday bargains. aren't you pushing it a bit? >> yeah, because it needs to be pushed a bit. we need to get people's attention. >> reporter: stores closed security gates. shoppers tried to take it all in stride. >> you can shop and learn a little bit about civics at the same time. >> reporter: must be close to 100 people. so far the police are staying back. letting them do what they want to do. there hasn't been any confrontation. but several hours later, police briefly shut down the st. louis galleria mall. the call spread to social media, videos, twitter #blackout black friday. >> hands up. >> don't shop. >> hands up. >> don't shop.

a new report says several hospitals have turned down the ability to treat ebola patients. they say it could scare away other patients. their reluctance could make it difficult for the government to set up a network of hospitals to effectively deal with the disease. if you are ordering your gifts online -- a lot of us do. it's getting harder to keep your deliveries safe and secure, unfortunately. take a look at this. thieves taking packages right off the doorsteps of someone. so annoying. this guy was caught taking -- this girl -- is that a girl or guy? girl, right? take a shipment of mugs from a home in upper marlboro. what are you going to do with those mugs? this type of crime son the rise this time of year. one person t he and his neighbor watch out for each other. >> we have a system where if i'm not home and they say something on my porch, they'll get it. and i'll do the same for them. >> so, police say to avoid falling victim, have your

package sent to your office or you could require a signature for it to be dropped off. this happens all too often. we see so many videos like this. >> it is disappointing. you have no patience. >> i have cameras and if i catch you -- >> you'll have angie to answer to. amelia, expecting a warm-up. it's not today, right? >> not today. today will be okay. we're noticing the sunshine breaking out now. mid afternoon hours, partly sunny. sun, welcomed sight with cooler temperatures. high today of 47. we warm tomorrow and then on monday, it will be the warmest day out of the next seven. after that, though, you can see here, cold air comes racing back in. we drop on tuesday. not only that, but rain is in the forecast on tuesday. maybe a little bit of wet snow. temperatures will try to warm up again. you want warmer weather, soak up tomorrow and monday.

clouds are starting to break up and thin across the area. again for the rest of today, noticing more sunshine and overcast skies for the morning hours. temperatures are in the 30s. washington at 37. rockville at 32 as well as leesburg. dulles coming in at 33. planner for today, mix of clouds and sunshine through the afternoon. temperatures by 1:00 pm will be in the mid 40s. we hit a high of 47 at about 3:00 this afternoon. 4:00, around 46. 7:00 pm, partly cloudy skies. low 40s. so, walking the dog this evening you do want to bundle up. you won't be dealing with any rain or snow. tomorrow, it's noticeably warmer. high temperature in d.c. of 60 degrees. over on the eastern shore, temperatures in the mid 50s and more sunshine as well. local ski resorts opened yesterday. white tail, round top and liberty. white tail has seven trails open with a base up to 14 inches.

wintergreen has six trails open with one trail at the base of 18 inches. conditions will continue to improve and snowshoe got a fresh five inches. if you go skiing or snowboarding tweet me your pictures or share them on facebook. here is tomorrow. high of 60. partly sunny. better of the two weekend days by far. on monday, high of 63. clouds increase throughout the day. most if, not all the day is dry for that monday evening commute, though, there could be showers around. on tuesday, there's a chance of some rain and snow showers, about a 40% chance. aside from that, notice this major temperature drop. we go from low 60s on monday to low 40s on tuesday. so that's a 20-degree temperature dip. tuesday, we need to keep an eye on. the forecast is kind of all over the place. what we're looking at right now, though, chance of showers, maybe some snow, little or no accumulation. wednesday, high around 50. thursday, mid 50s and then next friday, there's a chance of some rain showers.

>> i was born and raised here in minnesota. >> reporter: when the seemingly urbane urbanites chose each state's favorite recipe for its united states of thanksgiving feature, grape salad with sour cream and pecans optional was picked the favorite in the land of 10,000 lakes. apparently it comes from a minnesota-born heiress. the times wasn't expecting 10,000 protests. >> we don't grow grapes. we don't have pecans. we don't broil them together. it's just from mars. >> reporter: the grapes of our wrath fired back the minneapolis star tribune. minnesota nice? nonexistent on facebook. i can't wait to have grandma's grape salad at thanksgiving, said no one from minnesota. ever, opined one. i have lived through 74 thanksgiving, both in minnesota and wisconsin and have never even heard of grape salad, much less been served it, grumbled
