tucked away in a neighborhood. you have to go through side streets to get here. they are all pretty clear. for the children that walk to school check out the sidewalks. they are very icy, very slick. if you have a child that walks to school they could be in for a tr fairfax county loudoun county a two-hour delay. they decided to go ahead with school. a lot of parents thought it was dangerous to get to school especially the large school buses that had to navigate in snowy, cold conditions. they a apologized to parents saying the call was made early at 5:00 a.m. when it looked like the snow would be light. it came up heavier and piled on faster than expected.

one of the problems is there's no threshold, no strict guidelines to follow when making the call. it is all a case-by-case basis. two hours back in fairfax and loudoun county to give parents and teachers a little extra time to get to school. it doesn't look like there will be much trouble for folks getting to school today. this just in. montgomery county schools are opening two hours later. we just heard from montgomery county schools. metrobus will be running on a moderate snow plan this morning. all school trips in d.c. will operate normally. you should keep an eye on metro's bus alert page. as bus routes are able to operate, they will be announced

on that page >> 4:31 right now. i want to get you up to speed on the forecast if you're just waking up this morning. >> storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein talking subzero temperatures. >> right now look at our temperatures. it's only in the mid to upper teens montgomery county. near 20 in fairfax county. upper teens in prince george's county. low to mid-20s in washington by the were bay. warren town down to 18 degrees. at the bus stop this morning, we'll have temperatures in the teens through 8:00 with some of the slick sidewalks. watch out for that as richard was saying. many of the sidewalks were not shoveled. between 8:00 and 9:00 the winds will pick up. we'll be in the low 20s. windchills in the single digits. dress cooler. what to wear a warm coat.

anything that wasn't plowed and treated yesterday, that's a whole other issue. some of the streets in upper northwest when we left the station still have the snowpack on the road. you'll need to take it street by street on your assessment of how quickly or slowly you should be driving. the main road are not going to be the big problem. the secondary roads is where you are likely to occur the most number of problems. once you get out of your neighborhood and on to a street everything will be fine. that doesn't do school buses any good because they have to go in the neighborhoods to get the kids. it's a good decision to open a little bit late and let sunshine into these streets and things will improve quickly. we will start heading out west into northern virginia and check on the roads there. so far so good melissa. how are the rest of the roads

looking around town? >> not so hot when you're talking about out of annapolis. again, as chuck was saying a lot of those have been cleaned up and look good this morning. traffic being pushed on to 97 because of the crash that happened a little while ago. i came down from rockville, completely fine. the ramps and bridges a little iffy. but overall main roads looking quite good. 66 95 everything rolling along well. do have one thing to tell you about east of suitland eastbound pennsylvania at suitland a crash right there. 270 at mont rows, you could probably see chuck drive by a second ago. the main roads, no major issues. your back streets perhaps could use another little push. just be careful. >> much improvement from

yesterday. melissa, thank you. right now no delays or cancellations reported at any a far cry from what with we saw yesterday. more than 900 flights were canceled across the u.s. more than 100 cancellations originated from reagan international airport only philadelphia's airport had more. storm team 4 meteorologist chuck bell said the roads are in better shape. melissa said the same thing. check out these numbers from a few local counties. there were 96 crashes yesterday before noon in arlington. 101 in prince william county in montgomery county 100 crashes. and anne arundel responded to 142 crashes yesterday morning. we are working to keep you safe on the morning.

three underground breakers were tripped yesterday morning causing flames to shoot through the manhole cover. it happened 18th street/new hampshire avenue northwest. pepco says everything should be back on by 4:00 this afternoon. former virginia governor bob mcdonnell will appeal his two-year prison sentence sometime today. he he was sentenced after a five hour hearing. here's what mcdonnell said after the ruling. >> i don't believe i would be as much able to handle the news of today without the love of so many people around the state. >> as of right now he must report to the federal bureau of

icy roads possible. that's exactly what you want to do this morning. if you look at wisconsin, it's clear. that's what we are finding for the most part in northwest. main roads like wisconsin look pretty good. sidewalk over there you can see that looks good too. that's what we're finding for the most part. but there are spots you want to be alert, be aware of especially if you're walking or catching the bus. 35th and wisconsin, you can see it is slick. it is wet. it is snowy. definitely an area you want to be careful of. if you're walking or catching a bus, there is a bus stop down there. we saw guys salting side roads. a good example of what you're going to see, no doubt, in some areas this morning. they told us they tried to get here yesterday t 35th

democrats kathleen murphy will replace her in the virginia general assembly >> the woman accused of vandalizing two d.c. landmarks is free this morning. she was released from st. elizabeth hospital after the department of health says she should not be committed. last november a judge ruled the 60-year-old was in competent to stand trial. that means there is no way to criminally prosecute her. we know a teen hit and killed by marc train was walk anything a prohibited area. 18-year-old mario hernandez was wearing earbuds and hooded sweater covering his head. the marc train conductor blew his horn and tried to apply the brakes before hitting hernandez. the accident happened near old town station. he lived just two miles away.

investigators are trying to figure out what caused a gun mapp to shoot and kill a doctor at a veterans clinic in texas. the gun mapp killed one person from killing himself. the shooting happened yesterday at the william beaumont army medical center in fort bliss. this is the same va clinic that came under fire last year for having some of the longest wait times in the country >> baltimore police charged a man who took a loaded gun into a police station. that man said he was ordered by a violent gang to smuggle the loaded gun into the building. according to police the 29-year-old walkedhe northeastern district substation smelling of marijuana. they found marijuana, cocaine and a gun with a bullet in the chamber. angie goff at the live desk where the death toll is rising right now after a suicide bombing attacking in yemen.
