weather advisory starting at 6:00 tonight. right now you can seem the south, but it is not stay rain in place. a breakdown how much of the weekend could be disrupted by the weather. good morning. you're watching "news4 midday." i'm barbara harrison. over most of the area weather is nice. clouds moving in temperatures not unbearable. for a look when things will change go straight to news 4 storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal. good morning rnlg good morning, barbara. seeing rain and snow moving into the area between about 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. that's the d.c. metro area. this system coming in from the south, and with snow in the forecast a winter weather

advisory get to into effect for just about everybody, except parts of southern maryland and the northern neck but everybody else to the north and in purple here under this winter weather advisory from 6:00 p.m. today until noon tomorrow. here's the latest on storm team 4 radar as we track the system. in our area it's still dry, and it's going to remain dry for the afternoon hours. it's the evening hours where this rain and even snow in parts of virginia and north carolina moves into the area. here's the timing with futureweather. the pink is a rain/snow mix, maybe some sleet. the green is rain. 5:00 this is when it starts to arrive. 8:00 p.m. barbara, continuing to track the wintry mix. wintry mix continues on into the morning hours. how much snow can you anticipate in your neighborhood? i'll have that forecast coming up at 11:30, barbara. >> amelia thank you. right now randolph road is closed while police investigate a serious crash.

a van slammed into a tree. one person taken to the hoptd hospital. and right now police are investigating a fatal collision involving a positive decembern and at least one vehicle, probably more. it happened at landover road and matthew henson in hyattsville. megan mcgrath is live at the scene. what are police saying about what happened this morning? >> investigators are still here but starting to wrap up their investigation on the scene. you can see the white car there loaded on to the back of a tow truck. that is the vehicle that struck the woman who was killed here this morning. she was nearby right close to this bus stop across the street. police are trying to figure out now is whether that was the only car that hit her. police turned around traffic as the stop light, just up route 2902 at matthew henson avenue,

the body of a woman, struck and killed while apparently trying to cross the street. >> put a light to stop the traffic so that people can come out of this neighborhood to get over here and so people can cross safely. do they not care? >> reporter: monica robertson lives nearby and has seen many accidents here. there's a bus stop but it's across the street from the neighborhood. there's no crosswalk, stop sign or light at that section of 202. robertson says it's not safe but people have to cross the busy road to catch the bus. >> how many people are going to have to die on this road before they make a change? >> reporter: the victim's body was found near that bus stop but it's unclear where she was headed. a surveillance camera at a nearby laundromat may have caught the accident on tape. you can see the flashing lights of the police cruisers in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. one thing police are trying to figure out is if the victim was hit by more than the one car that stayed on the scene. >> we can confirm at least one

vehicle hit her and trying to rule out the plausibility other vehicles may have struck her as well. >> reporter: police have not releaseded name of the woman killed and it's unclear if charges will be filed. >> thank you, megan. wssc is working to repair a water main break in prince george's county. old annapolis road is shut down now near church road and bowie. a 24-inch water main caused water to gush into the street in a large sink hole formed. crews will be working for the next few hours to try to get it fixed. wssc is also working on a broken eight-inch water main in montgomery county. this one is at river road and willard avenue in bethesda. right now willard avenue is closed between river road and north park avenue. one lane is getting by on river road between little falls parkway and western avenue. this is the second water main break in that area in two weeks. two people are still missing

after a fire at a mansion in annapolis. search crews will dig through the rubble again today. searchers found two bodies yesterday. this morning, we're getting a look at family members who died on monday. don and sandy pyle own the waterfront home. their grandchildren were spending the night with them. all four boone kids were killed. lexi and katy were 8 and 7 years old. charlotte was also 8 and wes was 6 years old. atf agents hope to have a cause of this fire by monday. goodyear issued a tire recall that could affect the car that you're driving. news 4 has more from the live desk on that. >> right. just getting details in to the news room about this recall. so heads up if your car has 18-inch goodyear tires. look at the specifics here. they are the fortera goodyears tires made november 30th through january 10th. small cracks found in the tread have goodyear recalling more

than 48,000 of these tires. the cracks were discovered during endurance testing. now, general motors has to stop selling about 6,300 chevy traverse, akade yad and and gmc. take to any goodyear store or authorized dealer for a free replacement. brash, back to you. >> thank you. take a look at this ad in favor of changing the redskins' name. we'll have a look tat in a second. that's rg 3, running a 76yard touchdown during a game in 2012 but the team logo has been digitally removed from the side of his helmet. you can't see it right now but imagine that. the group says the team's name is a racial slur and offensive. team owner dan snyder says the name honors native americans and he has vowed never to change it. and right now concern for the lives of two hostages being

thousands gathered for the funeral of saudi king abdullah who has died at the age of 90.

the austere ceremony is in keeping with islamic tradition, all people are equal before god. saudis will observe three days of mourning. condolences are pouring in. president obama praised abdullah's "bold steps towards arab peace" and vice president biden will lead a delegation to the region. king abdullah leave as complicated legacy. a close and powerful ally of u.s. presidents a slow but deliberate reformer for ultraconservative saudi arabia. this death comes at a pivotal time with tensions high between sunni and shiite muslims and saudi arabia facing threats from isis and iran. a half brother, prince salman now takes the throne. japan's government is woulding to save two hostages held by isis militants. earlier this week isis demanded a $200 million ransom or they'd kill the men. the group the deadline passed just before 1:00 this morning. so far no word on what if

okay. put down your iphone and ignore your twitter feed. that's the message from pope in his annual message he says media can help you keep in touch with distant family member but it can also be a hindrance saying people need to learn to talk to each other face to face once again. right now a live picture of the u.s. capitol arewhere a new phase of the massive dome restoration is under way. crews are removing paint from the dome's exterior. crew working day and night and installed 720 l.e.d. lights along the scaffolding to light their way after sunset. this is the first restoration of the capitol dome since 1959. virginia lawmakers can't agree on how to deal with sexual assaults on college and university campuses. yesterday a senate subcommittee

considered ten bills and couldn't reach a conclusion on a single one of them. among them the most controversial was the concept of mandatory reporting. some of the measures would require university employees to report an assault to police within 48 hours. failure to do so would be a misdemeanor. several witnesses said they would discourage victims from reporting assaults at all. this afternoon, president obama will host mayors from across the country at the white house. it's all part of a conference to expand partnerships between cities and the federal gove. one of president obama's state of the union promises is already getting pushed back by some republicans in congress. the president wants to scale back tax benefits on some college savings accounts. his plan would affect 529 college savings plans. right now money in those accounts grows and can be taken out tax-free. the president is looking to tax that money and use the revenue expand a different education tax credits. the gop says they won't support the tax increase. well three different

republican gatherings this weekend. giving us a good look at many of the potential presidential candidates from that party. for more joined by luke russert. >> thank you for having me back. time. >> the right spot. you're keeping an eye on a lot of things going on this weekend. >> yes. >> tell us what's happening in iowa? >> iowa is interesting. there's a thing calmed the faith and freedom summit hosted by an iowa representative steve king getting a lot of big name presidential hopefuls there. chris christie governor of new mexico governor of wisconsin will be there. you see on the screen ted cruz mike huckabee governor rick perry. a lot of people are saying this is the unofficial kickoff to the presidential season. at least on the republican side. iowa is the first in the nation caucus state. a very important state. the first time we are seeing iowa voters get to see all of these people in one room at the same time but emissions from the list. >> was i not reading fast enough? didn't see jeb bush. >> or no mitt romney and they're

meeting themselves in utah together just the two of them. pre-scheduled prior to mitt romney possibly testing the waters. and what's really interesting here is a lot of people say, look if mitt romney and jeb bush both get in this race that is a lot of money on the establishment wing of the party that's going to be split, and perhaps they could beat up on each other and that would open up an avenue for somebody who would not do as well in the general election to come through. they'll probably talk about that and how hard they would go after each other if they would both run. and a meeting in palm springs, california. the koch brothers. give a lot of money to candidates. rand paul libertarian and marco rubio from florida out there as well. ted cruz double dipping in iowa and there. interesting to show these guys are trying to go the financial stream. koch brothers very important in presidential politics. >> the koch brothers usually go rds the far right? >> depends in what race but usually a lot of money on a lot of different cand the tea party?

right now a busy storm team 4 radar rain coming from the south but it may not stay rain once it arrives in the area. storm team 4 meteorologist amelia segal joins us with a look of what we may expect this weekend. >> witness we start to his 5:00 6:00 p.m. rain and snow moves it's way into the metro d.c. area. if you know someone who can leave earlier, 4:00 or even 5:00 a good idea. as we get later in the evening, more rain and snow will continue to impact us. this is only the first of two storms that we're going to deal with. mainly impacts us from 6:00 p.m. until noon tomorrow when the winter weather advisory expires at noon tomorrow. so sunday is the better weekend day. it's dry almost all of the day but then sunday night into monday another storm system moves through the area. this storm system we're talking about overnight tonight and throughout the day tomorrow more of a rain/snow mix. the storm monday has a little more potential to be mainly only

snow. temperatures now in the mid to upper 30s's 39 in washington. 37 in frederick. 36 for those in manassas. high temperature today of 44 degrees. i did just check, maryland reports the road temperatures innish temperatures on most roads in maryland are above freezing. that's good news. as this wintry mix moves in around 5:00 tonight, initially we'll only deal with wet, not slick, conditions. the numbers on the map are the temperatures. i want you to notice as this moves in most temperatures are above that freezing mark. as we work our way, though into the evening hours, our temperatures do start to drop. 7:00 p.m. starting to see temperatures around freezing. gaithersburg not far behind. washington still at 36 not supporting a lot of accumulation. a rain and snow mixture overnight and throughout the morning hours tomorrow could be heavy rain in parts of southern maryland off on to the eastern shore. 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, that rain and snow mix continues.

as this event comes to an end around 1:00 p.m. we'll continue to track rain and snow, and that includes inside of the beltway. so here's what you can expect tomorrow. how hour-by-hour planner. 7:00 a.m. rain/snow mix. temperature around 34. not supporting a lot of accumulation but there will be some. we'll see it lighter rain and snow. by 11:00 a.m. mainly dry by 3:00 and a temperature at that point of 36. that's going to be our high tomorrow. here's the snow total forecast bringing one to two inches to the d.c. metro area. in the suburbs, just to the north and west including fairfax, most of montgomery county. north most parts of montgomery county loudon leesburg on the line. faulkner on the line. higher elevations es spently in parts of frederick and loudoun coun s could see um to five inches of accumulation. in southern maryland and the northern neck mainly only a rain event for you. i'll post this on my facebook and twitter pages so you can

areas of deep disagreement between the united states and cuba. this includes our concern about progress in the areas of freedom of expression and human rights. we also raised the need for greater cooperation with regards to u.s. fugitives from justice and other areas of concern. these issues too, will be part of this renewed bilateral dialogue. >> now earlier this morning, jacobsen met with seven dissidents at her residence there in havana. we'll continue to stay on top of this developing story throughout the day here on news 4. back to you. >> thanks. you may be surprised to know that the number of guns found in carry-on bags at two of our major regional d.c. airports increased. nine guns were found in dulles in 2013. 14 at reagan national and 14 at baltimore washington international airport. combined the guns detected in our region rose by one-third. across the country, more than 2,000 gurn was found in care

joer bags and 83% of those were loaded. overall, there was a 22% increase in the number of guns found in 2014. prince george's county police are trying to figurerdorred a man in broad day flite laurel. chopper 4 over the scene on imperial drive yesterday afternoon. police say the man was found dead with a number of gunshot wounds. police are still trying to figure out a motive here. if you know any information, please call prince george's county police. police say that you could get a $25,000 reward for help in finding him. tonight, "dateline" tells the story of a largo man police say killed five within across prince george's county. jason scott will spend the rest of his life in jail as part of a plea deal scott was sentenced to 85 years for two of those murders. "dateline's" dennis murphy stoped by our studios saying scott stalked his victims in his own backyard. >> his m.o. was to put on his gear right? the ski masks, only the eyes

many of you with children in montgomery county schools, seems like you're glad when school does get started. i guess most parents feel that way, but in montgomery county two hearings in rockville packed with parents wanting school start times to be pushed back an hour or more for high school students. let's listen in. >> double-teamed by the sleep problems related to early school start times. his anxiety became so overwhelming --

he was physically harming himself was suicidal. >> a sleep expert who specializes in teenagers was on hand how sleep patterns for teens are different than for adults but it may all come down to court. montgomery county schools say pushing back the start time could cost tens of millions of dollars. the superintendent is recommending all schools start 20 minutes later in order to reduce the costs. a big change could be coming to the school calendar in manassas park. we told you when the school district receive add grant to study year-round school. now school leaders are ready to present their plan to the community. it includes breaking ging state-wide tradition and starting two weeks before labor day and students would have more breaks and two intercessions. some d.c. students are starting the new year as award winning poets. thanks to an after-school program called "d.c. scores." joined by katrina owens of d.c.

only on news 4, getting a behind the scenes tour what will become the largest ka seancasino complex. now tower cranes put in place to get the foundation ready. the billion dollar resort is designed to be a green building with minimal fossil fuels and carbon emissions used. >> this is a concrete batch plant. we'll have three batch plants right here on-site. that way the trucks that haul the cement the thousands of cubic yards of cement to our site don't have to go out on to the roads. >> right now it's a dirt lot with construction vehicles but in a couple of months the first level of the garage is expected to be in place. the ka seancasino is expected to open
