montgomery county prince george county the district and back towards the west more in the way of snow. but most of us aren't seeing anything. the storm that will become the blizzard is still to the south, still getting its act together but you can see moisture starting to move in off the ocean. this is something we'll be watching quickly over the next couple hours. we're not expecting a lot. we still have a winter weather advisory in effect for areas around d.c. all of maryland under that advisory parts of northern virginia including the northern neck in effect until 10:00 tomorrow morning. yes, i expect to see some more snow overnight tonight but not everybody will get it. we'll talk about this storm and about what happens over the next couple days coming up in my full forecast. >> thank you, doug.

the biggest impact of the storm could be the domino effect on our airports our train, and our buses. >> thousands of flight delays and cancellations in the northeast are already being felt here and things will only get worse. flightaware.com is showing 6,000 canceled flights for today and tomorrow. transportation rep live at reagan national with the latest on things out there. how's it looking? >> reporter: cold out here right now, wendy. it's got an lot colder in just the past hour. we have some try small flakes out here right now. guys imagine trying to fly right into the heart of this storm. we f here who are doing just that. >> sounds like we're in for the big one. we're going to go home and sit in the house until it's over. >> reporter: that's what you do? >> mostly. >> reporter: brian downs headed back to boston today. he remembers back to the

blizzard of 78 over two feet of snow and he knows he could be in for something similar. >> school was canceled for three weeks straight, no one went anywhere, you could drive a car. we had three cars. we couldn't drive any of them. >> reporter: up and down the departure and arivals board lots of changes. the planes headed out getting a serious dose of de-icing. the northeast will be tough. many airlines have started to precancel flight what is that and why do they do it? >> they thai like the travelers want people to fly around the storm as opposed to during it. they don't want people on the roads, waiting for planes that won't take off. >> reporter: some are stuck here till t othe camp out and wait. and back here now, coming up on my next report on 6:00 what does the airport authority expect for tonight and tomorrow if you're headed to the airport? adam tuss news4.

amtrak will operate on a modified schedule the rest of the night. no schedule changes yet for tomorrow but an update is expected tonight and we'll put that on nbc washington app just as soons we get it. we have some new informt about a shooting that involves three teenagers in prince george's county. we are just learning that a 16-year-old is now facing some serious charges in this triple shooting. it's the potential motive that is making us take notice. news4's pat collins is live at police headquarters with the latest. pat? >> reporter: sometimes in the world of crime things are not what they seem. initially the report was three teenage boys shot and wounded inside a house in clinton. now a bizarre twist to that story.t one of the victims is the shooting suspect.

the 16-year-old charged as an adult with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and what appears to be a video game session gone terribly wrong. here now from julie parker. >> at the preliminary investigation shows that the three teenage boys were playing video games when for some reason they got into a dispute. the suspect retrieved a gun and all three of them wound up being shot. >> reporter: the suspect shot as well? >> the suspect was shot as well yes. >> reporter: by himself. >> yes. >> reporter: all three are football players at frederick douglass high school. all three teenagers remain in the hospital. live in prince george'scounty pat collins, news4. a rookie d.c. firefighter is

out of jail after he was arrested on gun charges. charging documents show officers arrested roland jones in prince george's couy yesterday after spotting h inside they found two glock 9 handguns and a small amount of marijuana. they also found ski masks, latex glove, and extra ammo. a fire department spokesperson tells news4 they're aware of the charges and that jones has been placed on administrative leave. we just got a picture of a -- firefighters plan to return to a burned-down mansion in annapolis tomorrow after finding a sixth body there today. the victims are believed to be grandparents don and sandy pyle and four of their grandchildren. there was no sign of foul play. but the fire is being handled as a crime scene because there is no indication yet how or where that fire started. a romantic rejection has landed an arlington man in jail tonight.

police say richard hillier tried to kiss his uber driver saturday night. when she resisted investigators say he assaulted her and then kept her from calling police. then he stole her phone. when police arrived at hilliard's home to arrest him late they're day, he tried to kick out the back window of the police cruiser. he's now facing several charges. police say he was drunk. a device only a couple of feet in diameter but it is raising new questions about security at the white house tonight. this is the drone that sparked a security scare after landing outside the white house overnight. news4's kristin wright is tracking the response it has prompted this afternoon. >> reporter: the drone incident certainly putting the white house on alert tonight. we've learned the secret service knows who was flying it and this comes as the faa works to come up with drone regulations. a quad copter device that is what the secret service called the drone that crashed on the

know aggressive abo how to use it in a recreational capacity. >> reporter: the ste toor of the drone has been fully cooperative in their investigation as it continues. kristin wright, news4. new details about a weekend homicide. someone alerted montgomery county police to a body slumped over in a car in the bell pree area early sunday morning. when police got there they found 46-year-old wi wu shot to death. investigators believe -- have told us they believe wu knew his killer. if you have any information about the shooting you're asked to call police. metro is neglecting its commitment to safety. that i the word from the union that is representing the transit agency's front-line workers. the union says this month's deadt at l'enphant plaza d a failure by metro leadership to in in a culture of safety. and that includes emergency training for its employees. in a statement, the union

services like uber say the demand could mean fare increase uber is hoping a price hike when demand is high would bring on more uber drivers. it says when a state of emergency is declared pricing will be capped at a certain rate. but we have not seen nor are we anticipating a state of in our area. the wintry weather put a damper on most road construction projects around northern including the widening of route 50 in chantilly but not all outdoor work has been put on hold. ths were on the job despite the wind and the cold weather. but in this area of loudoun county roads stayed clear and the snow just for the most part created postcard-like pictures. however, you could have been like these women trying to fight with the wind trying to stuff all those helium boo bah loons into their cars. >> looks like a bit of a nightmare for the people up to the north. we are not going to have anything near that. correct? >> no we won't have anything at all near that as a matter of

fact. what we've got going on now is just snowmaking its way across the region. it will be areas of snow across our area. snowing pretty good outside our studios in northwest. this is what we're going to continue to see, snow showers moving in throughout the rest of the evening hours. some of us will continue to get them others may not get it at all. right now currently at the airport, we are seeing a little in the way of light snow. 34 degrees, wind out of the north at 14 miles per hour. our windchills are in the mid-20s so it's on the cold side. look at the temperatures. well below freezing to the north, 27 in martinsburg, 28 in frederick. anything that falls this evening will have a much better chance to stick on the roadways. that's really the only concern we h take a look at the snow. montgomery county that band over northwest d.c. another little band back to the west. this is what we'll continue to see, one thing i've started to notice is this push from the east. that's the storm developing off the coast, pushing in some of

that moisture. so we will see this band i think get a little heavier as we move through the rest of the overnight hours. to the north and east yes, this will become a monster storm for places like boston up here around long island. new york and philadelphia some of the computer models not giving them much at all now. others giving them a ton. i think it's going to come down to a little bit less snow around philadelphia a little less around new york boston though will still get hammered. lit still cause problems ove next few days with air travel even in our region. winter weather advisories still in effect across the area until 10:00 tomorrow morning mostly because of the fact we will see maybe an additional 1, maybe 2 but i'm thinking 1 if anything between 7:00 and 6:00 a.m. some of the roads will become slick. overnight, snow showers may start to stick on the roads. there will be areas of ice and possible delays early tomorrow morning. that's something we have to watch out for. future weather showing what i'm talking about. here's that band to the east

the average price of gas in the country fell 13 cents in the past. the drop at the pump brought the average price of fuel to its lowest level since april of 2009. analysts are predicting a bottoming out is going to cur possibly even an increase in gas prices could be on the way. a lot of us try to avoid i-66 when we can because of congestion. there's a plan in the works to ease traffic jams. about a half hour from now vdot will update the public on its plans to transform 26 miles of i-66 out of the beltway and take suggestions. we've posted some of them on our website, nbcwashington.com. just search vdot. tonight's meeting is taking place at oakton hil i

vienna. there will be three other public meetings over the next three days. two of the four boys who fell to an icy pond in baltimore county this weekend are still in the hospital but doctors say they're getting better. the two others were treated and released. the boys fell through the ice yesterday afternoon at a park near lansdowne high school triggering a massive rescue mission. today they said one of the boys was arrest when they got to him. that ice was only 1 to 2 inches thick. he's accused of planning to his ex. now at 5:00 find out what may have been his motive and why one northern virginia communi is not surprised about the accusations against a neighbor. and on the immigration front, some are calling it a crisis in montgomery county. the number of unaccompanied minors is growing.

so we're going to get some convergence in the middle and that will set up across our region. that's why we still have the winter weather ay i effect but not just for the advisory also for the fact we could see some ice on some of the area roadways. ice will be a problem by early tomorrow morning. veronica johnson, you have snow at the current hour. >> that's right. small flakes of snow so we're seeing it reaccumulate now on our storm team 4 weather deck not so much on the black top but for any areas that did not get cleaned up today it will get icy and slick. it's slick on the patio right here. take a look at temperatures across the area. currently at 34 degrees inside the beltway. you have 28 around leesburg germantown mt. airy those locations below freezing for a while and road temperatures so important, now at 32 to 33 and up around areas like 70 at 31 degrees. in the next couple hours i see those temperatures road surface temperatures dropping to the

upper 20s. again weather the snow back into the area and with us throughout the overnight i think that means patchy ice and slick spots by tomorrow morning. it means some delays as well. by afternoon we should have dry pavement but a cold one tomorrow. when i'm standing out here which i might be tomorrow doug it will also be pretty windy. >> yeah it will be windy. i think windchill will be something we'll be dealing with not just tomorrow but really on wednesday. windchills all day long in the teens and lower 20s as we move into a colder air mass. we have a couple other chances for some snow out there, one coming up on thursday another one coming up on sunday. we'll keep you updated. we'll give you the latest on the seveforecast. a family of six in prince george's cy survives a frightening scare. they all went to the hospital last night thinking they had the flu, but it was actually carbon monoxide poisoning. prince george's co bureau chief tracee wilkins is live in river tail. tracie you spoke to the father. what did he say? >> reporter: he was telling me about the symptoms and how he

felt and without knowing that it was carbon monoxi poisoning, he knew that they needed to get out of that house. and the doctor told him when they got to the hospital that had he waited even 30 minutes longer his entire family could have been >> we're still here. >> reporter: roberto is beyond grateful after doctors told him he and his family were near death morning. what do you make of that when you hear something like that? according to prince george's fire spokesman a new natural gas water heater malfunctioned and filled this rented home with carbon monoxide. roberto and his family just moved in last night. >> around 3:30 4:00 i hear my wife crying. i went to the room to see what's going on. >> reporter: he says everyone was lightheaded, vomiting and even having problems seeing. >> co was very high.

starts earlier than normal tomorrow as the blizzard we've been telling you about batters the east coast. join us for that from 4:00 to 7:00 tomorrow morning. news4 is uncovering new information about a loudoun county man who's acued of plotting to kill his ex-wife. northern virginia y has been looking into court documents and talking to neighbors and discovered the suspect has ties to a white supremacis >> reporter: this is dallas benbrek jr. in july of 2012 talking about a conference he helped organize in alabama, a conference for whites only. >> it's a christian gathering. >> reporter: this is the mug shot of brombeck taken last thursday after he was arrested for attempted capital murder of his ex-wife. charging documents show he allegedly offered to pay $2,500 before and $2,500 after the killing was complete. divorce papers from 2006 show a contentious relations between the couple.

brumback's wife complained he was in the cueku klux klan. the couple's divorce was finalized in 2007. it's unknown what reportedly motivated the murder-for-hire plot now, some seven years later. brumback lives with his new wife and three children in this home next to his mom. the sign read "i'm a bitter gun owner clinging to my religion." police and atf agents filled red rose drive on thursday after brumback's arrest. his neighbors declined to be interviewed on camera but had plenty to say off camera. some of them considered him a threat. they worried because he would often shoot his weapons out on the proper crows and other animals. and other neighbor ts who'd known the family for a long time confirmed to me he was linked to a white supremacist group. brumbeck lists his occupation as pastor. the whites only conference two years ago one of his religious

a california woman says managers humiliated his son so badly it led him to take his own life. she's suing target over the walk of shame, a claim target denies. kim baldonado reports from pasadena. >> i don't want any other mother to have to go through what i've gone through. this is my only child. >> reporter: her only child committed suicide last july three days after he was fired from his job as a cashiers a ath the target in pasadena. his mother has filed a wrongful death claim against the target corporation and two of its pasadena store managers. >> maybe i can save somebody else the pain. >> reporter: the claim alleges her 22-year-old son was humiliated in front of his co-workers when he was subjected to what her attorney calls the

this is a live picture of times square. new york's governor has just ordered a total shutdown of the entire city subway system and that starts at 11:00 tonight. >> doug kammerer joins us now. we really dodged one this time didn't we. >> we did. as that clipper made its way in here. we never forecasted more than 3 to 4 inches in the d.c. meo area at all so that's not a concern. they he 4 inches towards central park and will get more overnight tonight. that will be a big concern for them. for us our airport officially still under an inch of snow there but still snowing at the airport as we started to see things pick back up again. 34 degrees the current number 33 around 7:00 32 around 9:00. we notice snow and showers coming in snow showers making their way in temperatures below freezing and they're already below freezing. 29 rockville, 28 gaithersburg 32 in bowie. anything that falls tonight will start to stick on the roadways and we are getting reports especially into parts of

montgomery county tha we e starting to see some of those secondary roads starting to get snow covered. they'll be on the slick spot early tomorrow. now, this is what's going on with our syste and why we've been robbed of all the moisture moving to the north and east. here's our clipper system. anytime a clipper comes down normally if it moves to our south it's going to provide everybody with a pretty good coating of snow a couple of inches at least. but this system is really helping this one out to the coast to redevelop offshore become a monster storm. that's what's going on the blizzard making its way up. that secondary system actually robs our system of moisture. that's why we did not see the snow today. the clipper dies very quickly. the coastal storm develops and we are robbed of good snows. but then we look to the actual big storm off the coast to send us more moisture and that's what's happening right now. montgomery county seeing some snow. northwest d.c. prince george's all seeing some snow. and look what's happening over the last hour. watch this movement from east to west coming off the ocean. that is a lot more moisture heading in. so we will see some band of

heavier snow overnight tonight. get ready for that and just know that waking up tomorrow morning. i expect to see another inch maybe as much as 2 inches in some areas. some of you won't get anything, espe west of the i-95 corridor. but some of us are going to continue to see it. that's why we have that winter weather advi continuing. high temperature 35 on wednesday but it's only going to feel like 20 to 25 all day long. another chance of snow thursday. this is a minor system. the next chance we have would be next saturday night into sunday. we'll talk much more about that on friday. >> thanks doug. we all look for the cheapest tickets when we fly, but those tempting promotions offered by low-cost airlines may not always get you the best deal. consumer reporter erika gonzalez has a warning tonight after several of you told us about travel nightmares with one airline in particular frontier. >> well on our honeymoon. >> reporter: she and her husband wanted a warm and affordable destination for their honeymoon.

>> a great deal to the bahamas so we thought we should book it. >> reporter: frontier airlines advertises ultralow-cost flight ts. an e-mai anoth for $29. frontier has recently expanded service in our area and added a flights in and out of dulles. >> super affordable the $68 one way and $142 back the other way. so all in all we paid like $200 per person to the bahamas. that was a great deal. >> reporter: but her luck was about to change. >> so i got an e-mail about a month and a half back in october just like, there's a change i itinerary. >> reporter: more than a change. the flight was canceled, the hoymoon off. >> found tickets for $268 and that said bahamas. we got it. >> reporter: victoria and tony were also supposed to fly frontier a thanksgiving trip. >> we were really excited and really bummed that, you know this trip we'd been looking forward to canceled three weeks prior. >> reporte on facebook we found other passengers who

posted similar frustrations with frontier. traveling from ind thanksgiving week "when we got to the airport we were told the flight had been canceled." this post is from a family who planned a trip to disney world because of a frontier flight deal. the post reads, "we even sprung for a more expensive resort since we saved so much on airline tickets." but their flight too, was canceled. there seemed to be so many cancellations and delays that we asked frontier about them and complaints they're getting. a spokesman told us frontier is focusing on lowering complaints and that its senior leadership team is directly engaged on the issue in impein performance. fronti promise of reliable service. ". >> i feel like they didn't handle the situar says if a flight is canceled or delayed passengers can get a full refund or rebook with frontier. all three women we interviewed offered for the refund and never

u.s. officials say there are no plans to evacuate the american embassy in yemen. that embassy is closed to the publ precaution but more than 200 people remain on duty at the embassy in the capital. last week fighting in that city led to the resignation of yemen's president. a state of emergency in boston. people there are doing all they can ahead of the massive snowfall coming their way. >> more than 2 feet expected to blanket that area. john maroney is at logan airport where flight cancellations are already piling up. >> reporter: around 7:30 tonight logan will begin to ramp down their operations. the airlines plan to move their planes out of boston all together and to other parts of the country so they won't get stuck here in the snow. there won't be any planes here

tomorr the height of the storm. even so they will continue to work to keep the runways clear as long as the weather permits. they expect about a thousand flights will be canceled during the course of the storm. they hope that they will resume sometime wednesday afternoon. some people that we talked to didn't want to wait that long and were able to get another flight out of town today. >> we were scheduled to go out tomorrow but we came back and did it on monday because the pending storm and we're real grateful to get out of here. >> we are going to sebastian, florida to meet up with the rest of the family. >> reporter: you're not going to be around for the storm then. >> no no no no. >> reporter: they're hoping to ramp up operations again here at logan on wednesday, perhaps wednesday afternoon. a lot of that will depend on the magnitude of this storm. they are expecting there will be delays here on thursday and friday as operations ramp back up. they're also saying that those are the two days you'll see a lot of folks from boston traveling out of logan to

meteorologist doug kammerer with more on what we can expect here overnight. doug? >> we've seen some pretty good changes over the last hour or so. that clipper system that made its way through has now transferred all the energy off the coast and now that coastal low developing and it's sending moisture back our way. let's take a look at the radar and show you what i mean. this is probably the most snow we've seen since about noon or 1:00 today. lots of snow coming down in portions of prince george's county montgomery coun back to the west.o put this into motion for you because i want you to take a look at what's happening. we have snow moving in from the west snow moving in from the coast on the east. they are going to collide here and what's happening, that's going to be an area that we see develop and i'm expecting this area down around fairfax county loudoun county where it may be snowing just a little bit, i expect that to fill in and i do expect to see more snow into this area. what are we going to see from this? we have our winter weather ad that continues through early tomorrow morning and
