>> and the victim in a bizarre hit and run in a local shopping center tells news 4 how it happened. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. first at 11:00 tonight an infant taken at gunpoint from her mother in montgomery county. good evening, i'm jim slansvance. >> i'm doreen gentzler. >> as shomari stone reported on twitter today, a happy ending as the amber alert is canceled and the child is set to be reunited with her mother. >> reporter: police are relieved that that 5-month-old baby is okay the child is safe. they say that the suspect, deare marquis denny abducted the child from this neighborhood right here and police released an amber alert. let's roll some video right now. tonight at around 8:30 police tell me 26-year-old deare more quis denny turned himself in to

prince george's county police. his 5-month-old daughter drew marie denny was with him. she's okay. montgomery county police tell me that denny drove a rental car to the poolesville home punched the mother of his child and took his infant daughter with him all while holding a handgun. police issued that amber alert just before 7:00 and that amber alert is now canceled. let's hear from montgomery county police. >> the good news is that the baby's okay. >> that's the great news that the baby has been recovered safely and that was the best situation that we could have hoped for. that was the outcome that we definitely wanted in all this. >> reporter: right now police are deciding what to charge denny with. meanwhile, the child's mother is expected to be reunited with her as soon as possible tonight. in poolesville, i'm shomari stone, news 4. only on 4 tonight, some major changes may be coming to the montgomery county airport just two months after that horrible plane crash that killed six people. news 4's scott mcfarland is in

gaithersburg with the latest fallout from the tragedy. scott? >> doreen montgomery county officials tell news 4 they're considering reducing the number of training flights and potentially the number of hours at which this airport operates. they've been under increasing pressure from neighbors here to do so. growing pressure from neighbors who own homes nearby. >> the airport's right there. >> reporter: right there. >> right across there. >> reporter: the other side of your house? >> exactly. >> reporter: including hans who lives down the street from the home that crashed in november. >> it's a constant fear and a fear that's increased with the years. >> reporter: news 4 was tipped off that neighbors were meeting privately to ask for a reduction in the flights in and out of the airport. we asked that news 4 cameras be aloud inside. once there we found the county is offering to reduce the training flights at the airport. nearly 90% of the flights at

this airport are practice training flights. the december crash was one of them. but at least three accidents since 2007 did involve training flights. >> these are pilots that are learning. having them traveling so close to a lot of the homes, it's certainly something we'll take a look at and evaluate. >> reporter: also under review hours of operation of the airport. the county said it will consider new restrictions closing the airport down at 11:00 p.m. each night through 7:00 a.m. the next morning. when we caught up with the final executive, he wouldn't say when final decisions will be made. >> we think those have been outstanding prior to the crash itself. it offered us an opportunity to go back and re-evaluate. >> reporter: federal money pays a lot of the bills at this airport and the feds may have something to say about the changes. but the training flights might also surface when the ntsb prepares its report on this

crash likely later this year. live in gaithersburg scott mcfarland. up in new england tonight it's really cold. people have begun digging out from a snowstorm that dumped anywhere from 10 to 33 inches of snow. two deaths both on new york's long island were connected to the storm. the financial news website called the street estimates that it will cost the economy about $1.25 billion. much of that related to the disruption of travel caused by the storm. things are slowly getting back to normal. amtrak is going to operate a full schedule of trains between washington and new york tomorrow. airline delays are expected to last through at least wednesday. drivers here can expect maybe a few slick spots around the roads. temperatures are dropping quickly here as well. doug really getting cold huh? >> it's getting cold very quickly. the winds are picking up as well. we're seeing those winds gusting between 20 and 30 miles per hour. they'll continue overnight.

take a look at the wind chill. down to 19 in d.c. 15 in gaithersburg 14 back towards winchester. these will only drop as we move on into the day tomorrow. take a look at our storm system. it is now out of here. we're seeing clearing skies. that will allow temperatures to fall. that main storm, the big blizzard up towards boston is rotating around very cold air from canada. that's what we'll see during the day tomorrow. the road impacts from the melting snow today watch out for icy spots as everything refreezes. already some areas of ice. watch out for that. plus two storms on the way. i'll show you when they may affect us. one of those could be super bowl sunday. >> thank you, doug. crews are waiting for asphalt to come in from out of state tonight to fix a massive sink hole in maryland that swallowed up a car. it opened up this morning after a 12-inch water main burst on edmonton avenue in blainsberg. a five was in that car when it

started to sink into the hole including children that were under the age of 7. >> i'm not going to touch my car today. i'm not going to move it because i don't want to move it and then same thing happen to him happen to me. >> they say they do not expect this hole to get any bigger. that family has been put up in a hotel tonight. >> ten people were killed in a terrorist attack with guns and bombs at a hotel in libya. tonight we've learned that one of the victims is an american with ties to virginia. his name is david berry. he worked for the security firm called crucible llc. it's based in fredericksburg virginia. the company's chief operating officer confirmed berry's death in a statement that read our company mourns this extraordinary loss with his family and friends. we're still working to get the name of the guy who crashed a drone on the white house grounds. we know he's a government employee who says he was drunk at the time. the national geospatial

intelligence agency says the man is one of its employees but that his job has nothing to do with drones. the man has since told the secret service that he'd had a couple of drinks before testing out his friend's drone. president obama is now calling for rules to make sure that drones are flown safely. a bizarre hit and run accident in arlington tonight. a woman hit two pedestrians then kept on going. this happened in the 3600 block of columbia pike. jackie bensen spoke with one of the victims. she's at the scene where it all happened. >> reporter: jim, we're told this is how it happened. the woman was driving down columbia pike. she turns into this driveway thinking it's a parking lot possibly the gates are open. she goes down there, then something very shocking happens. >> she kept going, she didn't stop. >> reporter: stepping gingerly on one foot ahmad, a partner at the auto service on columbia pike spoke with us as he waited

to be driven to the hospital. he said it happened just before 5:00. the suv driver scraped a car in the lot as she was turning around to leave. >> she didn't want to stop. she went over my leg and went over to my partner, she pushed him down and hit him with the car. >> reporter: the auto lot also housing a barber shop. it was filled with customers at the time. some used their phones to record the incident and showed the video to detectives. >> she was stopped there for what we think was about a minute. all of a sudden she hit the gas and knocked the gates out of the way. the problem was that the first individual who had already fallp was still laying on the ground so she ran over him. >> reporter: and the man who was ran over twice is in critical condition tonight at a local hospital. we are told that police are looking for a light-colored toyota highlander and that they hope the video that's been provided to them will get them very close to finding out who this person was who drove away.

live in arlington, jackie bensen news 4. a major break in the hit and run that happened several months ago. police arrested a man today. detectives say brown hit a woman on the reston parkway near the spectrum center back in november. she was thrown several feet but the driver never stopped. police tracked down brown at his job. and seized his car and plan to use that as evidence. staff and parents are being warned tonight that a d.c. public charter school could be shut down. the amos five campus in northwest d.c. held a meeting tonight to talk about the potential closure. pleaders say the school's charter school license could be revoked. that would leave 1600 kids without a place to go to class by the end of the school year. it's unclear when the final decision will be made. people at the smithsonian considering a big move. what they're planning to do for

today. snow is piling up wind blowing all over the place. people have been told to stay inside up there. so bad the post office -- even the post office suspended service today. a new aerial view of the snow-covered streets of new york city during the storm. life there will largely return to normal tomorrow. schools will be open and travel bans have been lifted. parts of long island are buried under more than two feet of snow. >> you just said that's pretty. >> well the scene in maine with the bright lights. >> i agree. a blizzard is a very pretty thing. we're on the same page. >> as long as you're at home have a fire going. >> have power. >> toilet paper. >> nothing like that across our area tonight. for us just the fact that it will be a cold night and very cold morning. watch out on those roadways when you get up in the morning, we could see delays as we see ice forming from the melting earlier today. look at the current temperature.

it's on the cold side. 31 degrees. but look at the wind chill. down to 19 right now. many already down into the low teens. by early tomorrow morning those will be in the single digits. 28 the current temperature in leesburg. 25 in gaithersburg with a wind chill of 13 there. the wind and the wind chill will be the big story over the next day or two. storm team 4 radar, all dry right now. last 12 hours showing that blizzard up towards boston. there are numerous places with over 36 inches of snow in and around connecticut, up towards boston and maine. that's where those blizzard warnings remain in effect. but for us just a little bit of a northerly flow -- actually a lot of a northerly flow and that's why we'll be on the cold side. a storm system moving in on thursday. tomorrow no problem. 7:00 a.m. we're clear. we're just cold when you step out the front door. 5:00 in the afternoon, no problems here either.

i think the drive will be a-okay especially tomorrow afternoon. then thursday morning we start to see the clouds moving in. so another clipper is going to pass us to the north. so this is not going to be a big one. we're not expecting any accumulation at all. notice the timing here thursday around 5:00 in the afternoon we could see snow coming down along that corridor. want to alert you to that. rain in the south. warmer air down toward the south, too. thursday 8:00 starts to move out of the area. low temperature tonight, 19 gaithersburg, 19 manassas. wind chill between 5 and 15 when you wake up and step out the door tomorrow morning. your impact forecast not just on the low side but on the moderate side because of the icy spots. not just during the morning but even during the afternoon, many areas seeing wind chills in the teens with highs only in the 30s. 35 in leesburg 38 in

fredericksburg. what about our next storm? that's the one coming up on sunday. cold air's in place on saturday. we're talking bitterly cold air. but our next storm is actually coming from the south. that will bring in milder air. that means we are going to see a strong storm, but may be too warm. right now i think it starts to snow and changing over to rain but we have a lot of time to figure that forecast out. a high on thursday with that late p.m. mix. 36 on friday. a high of only 29 on saturday. then there's that storm on sunday and, yes, it does coincide with the super bowl. if you have a party, you might need the umbrella you might need a shovel. >> but we definitely need warm clothes for tomorrow. >> yes. did can you see the gw game tonight?

it could be that a d.c. institution might be headed overseas. the smithsonian institution we're told could establish its first international museum in london. that city has already raised $50 million to make a smithsonian gallery part of a cultural center at the site of the 2012 olympics. it would likely feature rotating exhibits of artifacts from some popular museums here. it would open in 2021 as part of an ongoing effort to repurpose london's old olympic park. she's been a doctor an astronaut, a news reporter now barbie is aiming higher.
