our area tonight. it's still having an effect on our roads. >> doug kammerer what's going on out there? >> rain sleet, and snowmaking its way through our region right now through the d.c. metro area. most of it is now off towards the east. let's look and show you where this rain sleet, and snow mixture is. we told you come through right around rush hour. there it is and there it goes. 6:00 at night and out towards 97. here's 97 between baltimore and annapolis, all reporting sleet down towards calver county. this is also sleet into thirty this area. it came through fairly quickly and quite hard. we did see a coating of sleet in some portions of the area. right along 50 from bowie to annapolis, down to the south, and it will be out of those areas in about a half hour. winter weather advisory continues until 9:00 tonight not just because of what we're see noug but also because of the cold temperatures we're seeing. we could see some slick spots. we've seen those reported. give yourself extra time

tonight. i'll update you on the next storm. a snow event happening on super bowl sunday. that's at 6:15. he could have given you a ride someday. now a former northern virginia taxicab driver is on the fbi's most wanted terrorist list. news4's jackie bensen is in the alexandria section of fair and accurate noun tont with details about big announcement. jackie? >> reporter: doreen, that's right. he drove a cab right here on the streets of the d.c. area according to the fbi. liban haji mohamed has been charged with provideing support to al shabab branded as a somali-based insurgent and terrorist group by the fbi. we've got his picture up there to show you. he is believed to have lived here in alexandria before leaving the u.s. in 2012. he is carrying according to the fbi, a valid u.s. passport. now, the fbi says he's a close social security of another man, convicted terrorist zachary chesser. he too, lived in northern

a compromise. neither chamber has enough votes to override a veto, which the white house has promised. two d.c. fire department employees are being investigated tonight after they were arrested for stealing gasoline for their personal cars. news4 i-team's scott mcfarlane first broke the story on twitter earlier today and has the story. >> those two workers are acued of swiping their taxpayer funded government issued credit cards for more than $14,000 in gasoline for their own personal cars. one of them a 45-year-old woman who federal investigators say took more than $11,000 in gas, including at a pair of gas stations on pennsylvania avenue southeast, not far from her home. investigators say they have evidence she filled up her own chevy tahoe with that gas. the second employee a-32-year-old man accused of making off with about $2,600 in gas using his government card. investigators tell the i-team the man sold some of that gas for 50 cents on the dollar. they say he admitted being strapped for cash and needed the

money to help pay a home mortgage. both employees now on paid administrative leave, d.c. fire tells us. doreen? >> scott mcfarlane thank you. a father and daughter are alive tonight thanks to several people who jumped into action when they saw smoke. neighbors and an off-duty firefighter pulled a 62-year-old woman from her burning home in berwyn heights today. her 90-year-old father was and both are now recovering. >> he climbed up on the -- he went up under the fire told her to, you know crawl to me because, you know, you can't see. you couldn't see anything. it was smoke all over the place. >> i ran in the yard ran up to -- into the doorway and helped them get the lady out. >> firefighters say a cigarette started this house fire. there were no working smek ging smoke detectors in the home. right now there is a rescue operation under way in mexico after a huge explosion and then that caused a collapse at a maternity hospital. they're trying to find anyone that might be buried in all that

rubble. it started when a gas tanker sitting outside began leaking this morning. two people are confirmed dead. that's fewer than -- pardon me -- than authorities first reported. more than 60 other people are injured, most of them women and children. those who know him call him honest abe, but today he pleaded guilty in a bizarre case that involves a truck, marijuana, and a police chase. new at 6:00 news4's pat collins is live in rockville with his apparent motive. pat, what's the story? >> reporter: well doreen, in the past drug dealers have traded dope for money, they've traded dome for sex, but trading dope for recording studio time? here now the story of honest abe. ♪ i thank the lord for bletszing me ♪ >> hi rapper name is honest abe and his videos are out, there but as of today, abe isn't. he was sentenced to nine years

for dealing marijuana. dead did he say why he was dealing drugs? >> absolutely. he claimed to the court that he was only selling the drugs for recording time so that he could further his career in music. >> reporter: now, this all began back in april with what began as a simple traffic stop. honest abe was behind the wheel of the yellow box truck pap cop ran the truck tags found them to be suspended. on came the flashing lights. on came the siren. off went the truck. >> ran a stop sign he was accelerating. all over the roadway. ran a stop sign. all over the roadway. just ran a red light. >> reporter: it was a seven-minute chase that came to an abrupt end when the yellow truck turned into the police car.

at the scene, police found 74 grams of marijuana and a digital scale. honest abe, known to the courts as abraham kamara, was charged with possession with intent to distribute. while he was out on bond awaiting trial in that case honest abe was arrested again. more pot and another scale. prosecutors collected all the evidence in both cases and today, today honest abe entered a plea of guilty to the drug charges. so now niners for honest abe. he wrote a letter of apology to the judge. he said one day he wanted to be a law-abiding citizen so he wouldn't have to sell drugs again. live in rockville, pat collins, news4. >> thank you pat. a maryland high school football player accused of shooting two of his teammates allegedly shot one of them in the back of the head. the other was shot in the groin.

that's according to charging documents in the case against delano dunnmoore. one victim said the three were playing video games in dunnmoore's home in clinton, there was an argument he left the room, returned with a handgun and opened fire, then he shot himself in the stomach. he's been charged with attempted murder. there were opening statements today in the trial of the former new england patriots ball player aaron hernandez. he's accused of killing his friend odin lloyd, back in 2013. prosecutors revealed today police discovered a bullet shell casing at the crime scene with hernandez's dna on it. the defense lawyer told jurors that just because hernandez was at the crime scene does not mean that he orlandoered the killing or took any part in it. that trial is expected to last four to six weeks. he's facting life in prison if

the storm that came through today it was in and it is out. right now the snow the rain, the sleet, it is all across the bay for the most part. the exception down towards southern portions of calvert county right along the pa pawtuxet river. sleet making its way through the area but as we mentioned yesterday a fast-moving system coming through the area. the clipper itself is back to the north and west so would not be surprised to see a spoke of moisture. you see one right here. you could see another one come through this evening, but for the most part we're out of the woods as far as the rain and sleet go. but this is the difference now. the temperatures below freezing in some areas, 32 in leesburg 30 in gaithersburg 31 in baltimore. anything that did fall could freeze so you may see that freezing or maybe seeing some ice on some of the roadway, some of the sidewalks and of course on the cars if you haven't seen them yet. winter weather advisory in effect until 9:00. it is because of the colder temperatures not because of the more precip making its way in. it will all be because some of

that could turn into slick-spots. not too worried about that right now. 33 in gaithersburg 39 in fredericksburg but it won't even feel this warm and that's cold. wind gusting upwards of 30 to 40 miles per hour tomorrow will make it feel a lot colder. windchill around noon 26 in washington 20 in winchester 25 in manassas, and you say that's not too bad. okay. well let's go to 8:00 at night. how about 4? cold enough for you? 4 in winchester 8 in manassas 9 over towards the annapolis area and some locations could get down below zero early saturday morning. here's the zero right there around gaithersburg. 8 degrees in leesburg. 9 degrees over towards d.c. yeah it's going to be a very cold one for you on saturday. so you know saturday's got the cold air. a high of 32. windchills in the teens and lower 20s all day. the cold air is here. now we need some moisture moving in. that moisture coming from arizona right now. it'll make its way our way with

a temperature of 35 degrees and i do think for the most part just about all of us have a chance for accumulating snowfall even down toward the south. take a look at the impact sunday into monday moderate impact from fredericksburg over toward the northern neck and portions of southern maryland then a high impact event from d.c. leesburg winchester warrenton, frederick. what does high impact mean? i think more than 4 inches in most of the area. this is something we'll continue to watch in the next couple days. it ends early monday morning. we expect delays and cancellations monday morning. guys? >> keep us posted. maryland's new governor facing a battle over budget cuts. where the backlash is coming from tonight. cleveland, los angeles, baltimore, they've all been used to represent d.c. in movies and on tv. coming up at 6:00 how the city is trying to attract more filmmakers to use the real thing. the district now has more than a thousand children living in homeless shelters many of them in hotels. i'm mark segraves and i'll

a local prosecutor will play a key role in the unique case of joe morris see, who sits at a statehouse during the day and jail at night. arlington county commonwealth's attorney theo stay mos will head a team of prosecutors handling new charges against morrissey.

the richmond-area democrat is now accused of submitting a forged document and lying under oath. the charges stem from an earlier case in which he was acued with having sex with an underage receptionist at his law office. he reached a plea deal that allow himself to work at the capitol during the day and spend his nights in jail. tonight more than 1,100 children are sleepging in homeless shelters in the district. our mark segraves introduces us to one young mother and offers a glimpse of life trying to raise a child in a shefrlt. >> reporter: like many who find themselves homeless, nicole pearson never thought she'd be faced with living on the street. >> not in a million years. there's a first time for everything though. >> reporter: the 32-year-old mother and her two children are one of more than 600 families ng in a d.c. shelter. the homeless families are housed in the old d.c. general hospital in seven hotels. >> if i wasn't here, i'd be on the street so i can't really

complain. >> reporter: d.c. has close to 3,000 men, women, and children living in shelters plus hundreds and possibly thousands more living on the streets across our region. this week volunteers in d.c. maryland and virginia to count the homeless population. >> if you look nationally we're actually making a lot of progress on homelessness. veterans homelessness in particular is down by a third in the last year. chronic homelessness folks who have been on the street a long time is down by about 20% over the last four years. nationally we're making progress. >> reporter: despite this national progress in d.c. the homeless population is growing, particularly teenagers with no place to live. >> they're the most vulnerable because they don't have the resources. a lot of them have huge traumas. they're out here for very scary reasons and a lot of the times they don't feel comfortable talking to someone like me who's an outreach worker.

right now you can see on raid ray, that storm system moving on out of here. we are done with the rain, the sleet, and the snow. for most of us this was coming down as sleet. we still have the winter weather advisory until 9:00. that's because of the kohler temperatures and some slick spots on the roadways and on the sidewalks. this evening, what are we looking for? well, the sleet is moving out. we're tracking that sunday storm. it will be a significant snow in parts of the region. i'll take you hour by hour for your sunday. if you have activities planned on sunday i'll walk you through the afternoon coming up at about 6:45. >> new at 6:30, a man from sterling virginia charged in a murder-for-hire plot. but we've learned his ex-wife may not have been the only target. >> northern virginia bureau chief julie carey was in court and has new dae ills about his conversation with an undercover officer. >> reporter: dallas brumback jr. charged with attempted capital murder for offering a hitman 5,000 bucks to kill his ex-wife, lindsey. she took the witness stand to urge the judge to keep brumback

behind bars. prosecutors backed her up tell telling the judge lindsey may not be the only one in changer. the hitman wanted to know if his ex-wasn't alone, what if there's a bloodbath? brumback's answer i don't care erase them all. >> it's disturbing to hear, but it's not anything i wouldn't expect coming out of his mouth. >> reporter: that's lindsey brumback's current boyfriend and father of their three kids. he and her father say she's been looking over her shoulder ever since she and brumback split up in 2006 in part because of his role in the kkk. this is pastor brumback in 2012 leading a whites only conference in alabama. >> it's a christian gathering. >> reporter: brumback and his ex have an ongoing custody dispute over their now 9-year-old daughter. he lives in this sterling home with his new wife and three other kids. during a raid police found guns and cross bows in reach of children hats and shirts with

kkk emblems and a map of the united states divided into klan zones. and they cited another conversation with the hitman in which brumback spoke of african-americans saying "we need to purge them all." brumback's current wife kimberly tried to counter prosecutors saying she and her husband are no long we are the klan and asked the judge to let him come home because he has a life-threatening blood disorder. but the judge called him a danger to the community and denied bond. a great relief to his ex-wife's family. >> best decision ever. because now we at least have some peace in our household. >> reporter: in loudoun county julie carey, news4. 90 minutes. that's how long it will take before people on board this united plane finally land here in washington. the plane took off from l.a.x. late this morning but had to land at ontario airport about 40 miles east of l.a. because of smoke in the cabin. some passengers described it as a roller coaster taking off and then landing so quickly. everyone got off the plane and

waited on the tarmac. nobody was injured. there's no word on what caused that smoke. a man arrested for carrying a loaded gun near the white house last year was sentenced today to a year in jail. his name is r.j. cappae. he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of an unregistered possession of ammunition. he's been in custody since he was arrested two months ago by the secret service. backlash tonight against potential education cuts and maryland governor larry hogan's new budge pept members of the maryland general assembly's black caucus say hogan's proposal would cost both prince george's county and baltimore city more than $70 million in education funding and that they say, could result in cutting more than 1,000 teachers from both school districts. >> and with the stroke of a pen you can talk about putting us backwards. we're not trying to go in reverse. we're trying to make sure we continue to move the the right direction. the things we've done the unprecedented money that we've put, resources we've put in

. a few of our local school districts have been touched by teen suicide, maybe all of them. people are trying to change thoughts on mental illness. kristin wright has more with one mother' mission. >> reporter: susan rosenstock says her son evan fell into a deep depression after an injury that kept him from excelling in basketball, the game he loved. she never thought her life would take this direction, but something good has come from such terrible loss. evan rosenstock took his own life right before the end of his sophomore year at winston churchill high school in potomac, maryland. a difficult year and a half later, evan's mother is walking

compelling stories of families of children who need the drug. for some the drug treats seizures without the serious side effects of drugs that are legal. that bill now goes to a second committee committee. >> doug's back with more about the cold wet weather we've been dealing with. >> and more on the winter weather, i mean we're really getting into the thick of things right now, not just with the cold. saw a little bit of cold and sleet today, tomorrow it's the wind and cold sunday it's the snow, then it gets even colder. let's show you how things are playing out right now. storm team 4 radar, it's clear now. we did see some rain sleet, snowmaking its way right through the early rush but it is now well off towards the east and it continues to move on out there. it's this little clipper system bringing us that light area of mix. still snowing up towards philadelphia. here's the storm itself. you can see a little bit of a swirl here. wouldn't be surprised to see one more little finger of moisture come on through the area. but we're not expecting much.

we do still have that winter weather advisory in effect until 9:00 mostly because of what we've seen out there fall and the cold temperatures. 30 in gaithersburg 32 in leesburg 31 in reston 32 in camp springs. we could see some slick sot spos. they've been reported across our region. saturday it's a cold day, probably the coldest day we have here in the next couple days so the cold air is in place. you need that if we're going to get snow. we have a storm coming out of canada then we've got a lot of moisture toward the south. it will be raining over the next couple days toward the super bowl. saw handle hand last hour with rain coming down. that moisture and storm moves our way and goes to our south. we call these southern sliders and these give us all a chance to see some snow. moves in on sunday around the 1:00 2:00 hour in the afternoon, mostly snow for about all of us and looks like it could be a significant storm. super bowl sunday, a lot of have plan maybe going to some party,

driving charge. werth will spend five days in jail under terms of an agreement reached with prosecutors. he'll serve the sentence on weekends so that he can continue to rehab his surgeally repaired shoulder and continue to train for the upcoming season. his drive's license has been suspended for 30 days. a lot of hype tonight. 16th ranked maryland is at ohio state especially for the matchup between the terps melo trumble and the buckeyes deangelo russell. they're two of the top freshmen in the country and have battled before. when trumble was with acc, they went man-to-man. trumble won the matchup with a contested game winner the third overtime. we expect another dogfight tonight. melo sixth in the conference in scoring averaging just over 16 points a game coming off one of his best efforts of the season, 27 points in sunday's win against northwestern. russell a sls turning heads in his first year with the buckeyes over 19 points a game
