information. students showing support for a virginia coed attacked by a police dog. the police chief admitted his officers crossed the line but some people are demanding more. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. there is new information tonight about a confrontation with the police that took the life of an unarmed man in virginia. good evening, i'm jim vance. >> i'm doreen gentzler. fairfax county police just tonight released 11,000 pages of documents related to the case. news 4's jackie bensen's been poring over the paperwork and shows us what she's uncovered. >> reporter: hundreds and hundreds of pages of documents from the august 29th shooting of john gere reveal the two people closest to him were adam torres who is identified as firing the fatal shot and another severe rodney barnes ha has hostage negotiation training and was speaking directly to gere. in an interview after the

shooting with detectives officer rodney barnes say he and officer torres encountered gone gere in the doorway of the house on pebblebrook court. he told them he had a gun and indicated it was on the floor behind him in the house. the documents indicate that barnes said geer kept his hands on the screen door hands up. geer said if i drop my hand, i'm going to get shot. geer would periodically ask to scratch his nose and raise his hand. at one point he spoke in the direction of officer torres saying can you not point that gun at me? barnes said he asked for es to go ready gun, meaning with his finger off the trigger and barrel pointed at the gun. after more negotiation, barnes said i heard pow and described how geer fell back inside the house. barnes said he looked around and said and officer torres said, i did it i'm sorry, oh man, my

writes i'm sorry. the documents say i was pissed he meaning torres said did you see it? i said no i didn't see what you saw. officer torres was later asked to clarify his comments. he told them he felt justified in shooting geer because he made a jerking motion that looked like he was going for his gun. the comment about his wrist was that it was stiff from having held the gun so tightly for so long. he made a statement to barnes that he had a fight with his wife just before the incident. investigatored asked him if he shot geer because he was angry, he said no because he thought he was reaching for a gun. i want to show you all, this is what they sent us. it has things i've never seen before in an investigation. they gave us the statements made by the officers immediately after the shooting and all the way through it. you can see it is a story of those two differing account from the same perspective of what

>> this young lady linda colvin is horribly injured. for you saying that it was all justified, people and their family in those communities are saying why is it that our lives aren't valued? >> benjamin crump had already been scheduled to speak at the university before this happened to linda colvin. she's a student there and soldier in the army reserve. last week police were investigating a fight at a party and tried to question her. colvin resisted. the police dog took a chunk out of her leg and left her with gruesome injuries. earlier today the police chief says the officer in charge of the dog used unreasonable force to subdue colvin. the chief put him on administrative leave and is launching a review of the whole k-9 program. he has promised quote, i will make this right.

london colvin's family said she's 5'3" and doesn't weigh more than 130 pounds. she graduated from woodbridge high school just a few years ago. at the live desk i'm chris lawrence. the gunman who attacked a kosher grocery store in paris earlier this month made a video of the assault. nbc news has confirmed that coulibaly was wearing a gopro camera during the attack. he killed five hostages in that attack before being killed by police. it came just days after two other men from the same terrorist cell attacked the magazine "charlie hebdo" killing 12. tonight outgoing defense secretary chuck hagel has said he faced pressure from the white house to speed up detainee transfers from guantanamo bay. he made those comments in an interview with cnn. he also added that he thinks the prisoner swap made for prisoner of war bowe bergdahl was the

right decision and he told cnn that the defense department could recommend sending ground troops to fight isis. a federal judge is expressing some skepticism about the constitutionality of the government's no-fly list. the case centers around gulat mohammed who was placed on the no-fly list in 2011 and barred from flying back to the u.s. from kuwait. after a lawsuit was filed he was eventually allowed to return to northern virginia. at a hearing the judge questioned why people on the list have so few options to challenge their status. the ruling from the judge on the no-fly list is not expected for weeks. tonight there's a warning from the water company. it does not give discounts on water rates. the commission sent out an alert to customers saying somebody has been calling customers saying they can get a discount on their water, then they ask for personal information. so far there have been such

cases in prince george's and in montgomery counties and one case in fairfax. a spokesperson for the company has this advice if you receive that phone call. >> we're all subject to this no matter what the utility, what the business and the bottom line is don't give out personal information, whether it's your account number or anything else. my personal rule is i don't give out anything unless i initiate the phone call. >> wssc is working with yu tillty companies to get the word out about the scam. they say you should call police if you thing you're a victim. now the latest on this deadly metro accident. the family of the woman who died is suing the transit company for $6 is million. carol glover was on the train that stopped in the l'enfant plaza station tunnel. it took crews 45 minutes to reach her. but firefighters were not able to revive glover. the ventilation fans in the

jayson werth is in a fairfax county jail tonight. he showed up there this evening to begin serving part of his five-day sentence for reckless driving. he pleaded guilty earlier this week. last july werth was stopped after being clocked at 105-miles an hour on the beltway. the judge granted werth's request to serve his time on weekends so he could continue
