someone hit and killed a man who was engaged to be married on a busy road. the debate whether you should vaccinate your children next. we begin with storm team 4 and what could be a rough night. hello. i'm pat lawson muse. >> i'm barbara harrison in for jim handly. this weather has a chance to impact your evening. tell us about it! >> hi guys. winds will only continue to ramp up through your afternoon and evening hours and into the night, too. let's take a look what you can expect with winds gusting as high as 40 and 50 miles an hour and will only bring down the windchill temperatures. it feels like the 20s to the teens even rapidly and even lower tonight. right now, that wind at 24 miles an hour sustained with a temperature of 44 degrees, as we start to clear out this weather front that came through the area. look at the dpuss. over 40 miles an hour in so many

neighborhoods. windchill advisory throughout the area as we see windchills up to 50 miles an hour and goes through midnight. now, let me show you the impact this wind is going to have windchill temperatures 20s toup d.c. maryland and gaithersburg by 7:00 and in the single digit marks moving in the area close to the 9:00 hour. more on the impact of the wind what it will feel like late tonight and tomorrow morning's rush coming up. the same system that has us digging out from winds has chicago digging out snow and chicago has the snowiest february 1st ever and more than 500 pieces of equipment trying to dig out the sidewalks and hundreds of flights canceled leading to residual delays in washington and elsewhere. six of the major transit lines are building with weather problems.

ice build-up on subway tracks brought trains to a stand still. in queens five trains were stuck in stations because the electrified rails froze. one had no heat and they sent in a rescue train to help those passengers. now to new details in a deadly hit-and-run and a man killed and his fiance injured. police said rick warrick spould over in the shoulder air fia just past 197 in aaron doe county and changing a tire there. his mother says he and his family were headed to the mall. warrick and his fiance were both hit while outside the car. his two teenage children were hit inside the car and were not hurt. it happened so fast they don't have a description of the car that hit them and then fled. first at 4 this afternoon, we are waiting for a d.c. couple to face a judge after they were arrested for leaving two

children unattended in a car. the couple was eating saturday at a restaurant on 23rd street northwest. someone saw the kids alone in the car and called police. police say they had been left alone about an hour. the couple is now charged with cruelty to children. the first day of work in the newly renovated building 197 at the washington navy yard is winding down now. it reopened this morning about a year and a half after a gun mann killed 12 people there and it has undergone extensive renovations and we'll show it to you and why not everyone is back in the building. communication in another metro tunnel and comes three weeks to the day an underground emergency ended with one woman dead. adam join us along the red line in wheaton. >> reporter: communication issues along another part of the metro system. not what riders want to hear

the school board whether he wants his contract renewed. they meet tomorrow in closed session to talk about its options and what to do next. even if he wants to keep his job, he may not have enough support. right now they seem to be equally split which needs a majority to keep him on. the zoo announced today it will do bag checks among forms of visitor screening during big events and restrict the number of people allowed inside the zoo. the moves come in response to several incidents including a shooting just outside the zoo last april. 17 vehicle owners in arlington are dealing with damaged vehicles and lost property for the weekend. their vehicles were broke swoon while in a parking garage on north lynn street. they say it happened saturday morning and sunday evening. they took loose change and ipods

out of those vehicles. governor chris christie has opened a new chapter over vaccination debate with news he made overseas. now, his office is taking back those remarks. brian, tell us what he said and what he's now saying. >> governor christie just wrapped up a meeting at 10 downing street with british prime minister david cameron. he's there for a three-day trade mission widely seen as bolstering governor christie 's an expirations to run for president next year. it's what he said to nbc news he's under scrutiny for now, asked whether kids should get measles vaccines and whether the vaccinations are safe and his office is scrambling to clarify what governor christie meant to say when he spoke to casey hunt. >> we have had our children vaccinated and think it's an

important of protecting their health health. i also think parents need a measure of choice in things as well. that's the balance the government has to decide. it depends on what the vaccine is and disease is. i didn't say i'm giving people the option i'm saying you have to have that balance. >> the governor's office released this clarification. to be clear, the governor believes vaccines are an important public health protection and with a disease like measles no question kids shouldback vaccinations. different states require different states requiring different degrees of vaccination and calling for balance in which ones government should mandate. governor christie is in a tight spot because he doesn't want to alienate the libertarians who could be voting for him in next year's primaries. president obama didn't have any such problem. asked the same question by the "today" show savannah guthrie.

co-workers is still fresh. >> reporter: with the breaking of a champagne bottle to building 197, it reopened and for those who witnessed the violence. >> mixed feelings but i'm happy to be back. you will probably get more emotional since that day and haven't seen people you haven't seen since we were in this building. >> reporter: there is a new name. humphries building. new cubicles and workspaces and new cafeteria. employees now come in through a different door. the old employee entrance is now gone replaced by a remembrance area. the names of the victims listed on a wall of water. among them security guard mike ridgel. colonel mike mckinney, chief of the department of defense had told him to hold thelobby, not to let the gun mann aaron alexis out of the building. chief mckinney says the spot is

a fitting place for the memorial. >> i didn't know in less than 30 minutes he would double back and mike would lose his life holding that lobby for us. it's -- it's emotional in here for these folks. this is where one of the most traumatic events occurred that day. it needed to be changed. it needed to be changed for us. shortly after the shooting i tried to come back in this way and i just just couldn't do it. >> reporter: the return to the building is being staggered, 400 workers came back today and hundreds more will return over the next several weeks. at the navy yard megan mcgrath news4. >> and mark segraves also attended this morning's re-opening. at 5, he'll show us how the navy is trying to make things easier

there are new safety concerns involving millions of cars because of a problem not fixed. >> and they're being recalled. the national highway administration is recalling 2 million cars because of a problem that can cause the airbag to deploy even if there is no crash. what's more about half of those vehicles have those defective takata airbags that may spray shrapnel upon impact.

an accused police impersonator pulled over the wrong guy driving what looked like a police car crown victoria. he pulled over a car and inside happened to be an off-duty police officer. the real officer called in the man's license tag and he turned himself in being held without bond. so far no reports of other victims. no changes in bus service of other victims this afternoon because of the silver line.

at the live desk former nfl player warren sapp has been suspended indefinitely from the nfl network accused of assault and soliciting a prostitute. this is sapp's website from the office in arizona. sapp was in town to cover the super bowl. police were called to a hotel early this morning where two women told police they were escorts and claim they had an argument with sapp over money and it turned physical. police say sapp admitted he paid for sex but denied he assaulted

any of the women. the nfl network has since pulled his talent page from its website. back to you. >> veronica how high is the wind speed going to go tonight? >> it could get up to 45 maybe 50 a few isolated spots for a brief period of time. we have already seen a hand full of power outages across the area and we will see what impact it will have on this area. we check in on the windchill readings. they have dropped. 14 degrees, gaithersburg 29 in d.c. and teens will be coming into the area and single digits by the time we get to 7:00. if you have any areas late this evening, it will be cold. let's talk about the wind intensity this evening and tonight. winds fairly high across the area and means the possibility of downed branches and poles throughout the area and pretty good-decides branch

good-decides -- good sized branches branches. it will be cold throughout 21 degrees and in the single digits. partly sunny and better afternoon 37-39 degrees across the area. outdoor impact forecasts for tomorrow. 21 stay in 20s through the early morning hour but by 11:00, hit the 30 degrees and high 30s 2:00. and cold the early part of today and tomorrow. for travel tomorrow there could be isolated icy patches around the area. we're pretty much a green light to a go for exercising and getting out and about by tomorrow afternoon. snowfall throughout areas of boston have been really high and they have a surplus around here of 3.6 inches and we have a deficit here and we have the opportunity to pick up more snow

this week and the weekend. >> we're in this fairl pattern moving into the next couple of days. there are a couple of storms the next couple of days. nothing to get too excited about yet. on thursday this will be a very weak system but it will have rain and snow and mix in here. thursday around 6:00 notice a little bit in the way of rain early in rush hour and we have rain and mixing along 270. the snow makes its way around 11:00 and d.c. metro area around 2:00 that's on thursday not thinking this is a big one but we could see a bigger storm as we make our way to the weekend. >> that's right. we take a look at the 7-day forecast. there's your thursday. 50% chance of mixed conditions friday with a cold wind of 32 and weekend, 40 on saturday 36 on sunday with another storm system sunday to monday of next week. a lot more of these storms coming up and low windchill readings at 5.

waffles and berries and fruit sauce. >> it is 100 calories for two tablespoons for syrup. if you add two tablespoons you have 400 and two, you have 500. >> to work off 300 calorie, the average woman has to walk 75 minutes or jog 35 minutes. an average man has to walk an hour or jog for 30 minutes. double the calories double the exercise. >> we often think we're burning a lot more calories than we are. taking a walk for instance the calorie s calories you're burning are not nearly as much as doing a highly intense aerobic activity like biking or jogging. >> for a 300 calorie lunch, kathryn cooks pasta and mixed green salad. you can eat pasta but you have to pay attention to portions. one serving is half a cup.

george's school system and sent a letter out friday explaining what happened. it is very vague and say they cannot go into details because they don't want to invade the privacy of the teachers or students. coming up we hear from parents and they have a lot to say about all of this. he was driving on the parkway, he was taking his family out to dinner. he had a flat tire. he tried to fix it. it cost him his life.
