th officials are calling the worst in its bill lowed from the back of the train. officials say a jeep was stopped on the traction when the railroad gate came down on top of it. the driver drove it forward and it was hit. several departments responded to what was a mass casualty accident. seven people were killed many more injured urks some seriously. 400 riders had ob evacuated from the rear of the train taken to a sports club in the area. when the ntsb arrives here in valhalla they will be investigating two things specifically the speed of the train involved in the crash and the crossing arms at the station. that's the very latest from valhalla new york. i'm tracyie strahan. back to you. it's a pretty cold morning but temperatures are right under the freezing mark in our area as you can see here.

clipping a bridge before it slammed into the river below. this crash happened shortly after takeoff. 58 people on board. as you see here rescue crews are still searching for 19 people. right now metro is open, but some trains may be moving slower than normal. cold weather is forcing metro to restrict speeds in some places to prevent cracked rails. megan mcgrath is live to explain why your trip into work may take longer. >> reporter: it could take a little bit longer. right now the speed restrictions affect every line in the system. but the locations could change day to day depending upon ongoing inspection of the rails. the speeds have been reduced by about a third in over a dozen locations. this is being done as a safety precaution in spots with potential for weather related cracked rails. trains that normally go about 50 miles per hour would go down to about 35 miles per hour. this is in short sections of track just about a few hundred

eve as it crosses east capitol street. police have yet to release any information about the shooter that they're looking for this morning. a man accused of carjacking a woman at gunpoint in veeienna will head to court. darian robinson made the woman drive him from the metro station to several businesses in maryland last november. the woman says she was forced to take out cash and make purchases for robinrobinson. he eventually let her go unharmed. today school leaders will discuss changing kindergarten from a full day to half day to save money in prince william county. the school board will consider making $11 million in possible cuts to next year's budget including eliminating bus service for special programs at middle and high high schools. the chairman says the system will immediate to make cuts if the county approve as proposal to hold real estate tax bills at the rate of inflation.

january. a squatter found in a prince george's county mansion is a robbery suspect. the suspect and nine others including children, were found squatting in this foreclosed home. it's been vacant for four years. this is the second time this home in ft. washington has been raided. neighbors say police need to find a better solution. >> vacant houses in prince george's county where the next squatters can be. and we can't keep having 21 cars come to every house twice a year to solve this problem. >> last summer police found a suspect in a d.c. shooting living in that same home along with 12 other people. this morning we're hearing the call for help after strong wind gusts brought down a tree in montgomery county. we first showed you you the pictures of that tree on chris fisher's home on monday. he called 911 shortly after this happened. >> it's actually falling on my house right now.

the prince george's county. no accidents, who incidents, no construction in the way right now. 95 in virginia there at newington rolling right along. i'm back this ten minutes. i'm angie goff with breaking news out of taiwan. we have unbelievable video. this is of a plane right before it crashes into a river. actually we don't have that for you. but what you're looking at are live pictures. this is from taipei river where you can see the plane that crashed is still in the water. we have a huge rescue going on. this is a transasia flight that actually turned on its side, it clipped a taxi and bridge before falling into the river. the plane is still in the water as you can see. we know that 15 people are dead. ten of them died in the hospital. they're still searching for survivors. many of them believed to still be in that plane.

thank you. 13 before the hour now. man accused of carjacking and abducting a woman outside a metro station will head to court. police say darian rob bensoninson made the woman drive him to several businesses last november. that woman says she was forced to take out cash and make purchases for robinson. police say robinson eventually let her go unharmed at the you new carrollton metro station. we could learn the outcome of a massive lawsuit against remington rifles later today. a judge is expected to decide where to approve a settlement for that class action suit. plaintiffs say there is a defect in many remington rifles that causes the gun to fire without the tregigger being pulled. the settlement would require remington to replace the trigger on most rifles in question. there is a bill prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. it took a tie breaking vote to pass the bill. similar measures have passed in the senate before but they have

died in the heavily republican house of delegates. today a d.c. council committee will hold a hearing about whether your pre-k students can be suspended. david grasso wants to ban public and public charter schools from suspending pre-k students. the report from the d.c. office of the state superintendent of education found 181 pre-k students were suspended back in 2012/13 school year. the hearing is this afternoon at 2:00. d.c. officials apologized for accidently exposing personal information of 10,000 students. buzzfeed found it. it had been open to the public since 2010. the website was locked yesterday after buzzfeed contacted the school district. d.c. schools says quote, there is currently no evidence that the data was compromised and we understand how important it is to safe guard student information and will conduct a top to bottom review of our security practices to ensure this does not happen again. maryland'slarry hogan is
