the world has changed and now real estate has too. news 4 at 11:00 begins with breaking news. >> we have breaking news tonight. a maryland high school was put on lockdown after two teenagers were shot. >> and now officers are combing the building looking for a gunman. this is all going on at fredrick high school. investigators tell us the

violence broke out after a basketball game at the school. >> reporter: that's right. city of fredrick police have just wrapped up their search inside the school. right now parents here at this bowling alley located across the street they are waiting for their teens to come over here. the school if you move a little to the right, is located right across the street. let's show you a live aerial view from chopper 4. right now the students and teachers are leaving the cafeteria. the police methodically searched the school all the different floors different classrooms looking for the shooter. they did not find the shooter, the suspect. they don't know if he's still here or left school property. they do know that all is clear. this all started around 8:00 tonight. there was a junior varsity basketball game between fredrick high school and thomas johnson high also located in fredrick maryland.

these are two rival schools. parents tell me every time they get together, there will be some type of argument or something. as you can see tonight, shots rang out. at one point, someone fired several shots outside the building near the gymnasium. two teens were hit. medics rushed them to a hospital. they're going to be okay. the good news police say everyone has been accounted for. right now, again, the shooter has not been caught. students and teachers are about to leave the cafeteria. the students will come over and meet their parents. we're now going to hear from a man who heard the shots, a police captain, and a parent. what did you hear? >> i heard five shots, really quick. so it sounded like -- not quite automatic, but it was five fast shots. >> gunshots going off around the gym packed with kids. you can imagine everybody is running. >> what's going through your mind? >> just want to see my son, make sure he's straight everything is good make sure his mind is

there was a small fire in the store shortly after 6:00 this evening. but there was no explosion, no one was injured, and there's still no word on just what it was that started that fire. a lot of car windows smashed out and hundreds of dollars worth of property stolen. students parked near howard university came out to a mess after class, but they're not the only victims in the area. jackie benson is live tonight with details. >> reporter: well you have to feel for the young woman we just spoke to. what she found when she came out at the end of a long day. this howard university student did a double take as she went to get into her car in the school-owned parking lot this evening. the driver side window had been smashed. >> really? every single car? i actually got an e-mail like a crime alert. i was looking at it earlier today. i still had my parking pass which is the most important

thing. >> reporter: similar vandalism was inflicted on dozens of cars in the howard university area overnight. at least 20 cars in the north and south parking lots alone. in some cases, nothing was taken. others had valuables taken. >> i woke up checked twitter. i heard someone say, oh someone busted windows in the parking lot. i'm like, not my car. i walk up and see the whole robusted out. i'm like it wouldn't happen to me. but, yeah so. >> reporter: towels and trash bags were just two of the ways students tried to secure their cars until the glass could be replaced. >> why were 15 to 20 cars broken into? i keep getting told there was someone on patrol. >> reporter: howard university police and d.c. police say they have increased patrols in this area. live in northwest, jackie benson, news 4. our weather now. we certainly hope you enjoyed this day. apparently we're not going to

see the likes of this again for a while. are we doug? >> no, vance. i don't think we are. today's high temperatures reminiscent of what we should see in the middle of march. take a look at these numbers. 55 today in d.c. that came with some sunshine. look down to the south. fredericksburg almost at 60 degrees. fredrick a little cooler but still nice at 46 degrees. that's all coming to a change very very quickly as we move in through the night tonight. look what's coming. here's a cold front back to the west. it's all snow. back towards pittsburgh and cincinnati. the coldest air we've seen possibly of the season is coming right after this very warm day we saw today. i'll show you just how cold things are going to get and let you know about chances of snow tomorrow morning and that storm sunday into monday. >> doug thank you. new tonight, a fairfax county man is in jail for impersonating a police officer. state troopers arrested him this weekend, a driver on i-66 called police last week says this white chevy impala was trying to pull

over cars in prince williams county. police tracked the car to the man's home. they found marijuana in the car. also new tonight, we're seeing some of the items police seized from a house filled with squatters in prince george's county. officers say they recovered ecstasy pills and nearly 50 grams of marijuana along with a stolen motorcycle and a stolen rolls royce-style golf cart. seven people have been arrested for taking up residence in that abandoned mansion. it's in the exclusive neighborhood. it was the second time in six months that home has been raided by the police. a search tonight for some possibly armed robbers in the neighborhood surrounding a local college. two guys snatched somebody's cell phone late this afternoon at 48th and brandy wine streets in northwest d.c. very near the american university campus. no weapon was drawn in the robbery, but police say the suspects implied they had one.

an nfl play who are drew attention in the so-called deflategate controversy has gained a new level of notoriety tonight here in the district. indianapolis colts linebacker d.a. quell jackson is now facing a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail for allegedly attacking a pizza delivery man. that delivery man told news 4 it started with a fight over a parking spot in an alley near the e street corridor last night. >> i was scared because he grabbed me really bad. he hold me like this. i can't talk when he hold me like this. he say he was going to kill me. >> jackson has a home on 12th street where it all happened. some people credit his interception in the afc championship game with sparking the investigation over what they call deflategate. he's due in court next month. a teenager accused of stealing a cell phone, then stabbing a person on the metro is behind bars tonight. police say the 19-year-old man grabbed somebody's phone at the

metro station this afternoon. the suspect boarded an orange line train toward new carr ronton. while on that train, a witness tried to intervene and was stabbed in the hand. metro's about to get a rare distinction. it will become only the second transit agency to ever face a comprehensive inspection from the feds. the u.s. department of transportation's federal transit agency will begin that review next month, focusing on safety management for the bus, rail and training operations. this inspection will be separate from the federal investigation of last month's deadly smoke incident. the increased scrutiny of metro's emergency communications in the wake of that accident has uncovered more problems. d.c. officials now say radios failed tests at nine locations along the rail system on january 23rd. most were inside tunnels. we've got a full list of those locations on the nbc washington

app and on our website and will bring you the new details from metro officials and emergency responders when they testify at a d.c. council hearing tomorrow. now a new account of the deadly events in the train crash outside new york city. >> yeah, federal investigators say 400 feet of that electrified third rail sliced through a commuter train, burning through the first rail car. it then started breaking up into smaller pieces, at least one of which punctured the second rail car. all of this started with the train smashing into a mercedes suv sitting on the tracks last night. the crash killed five people in the first rail car and the woman driving the suv. she was a mother of three. witnesses say the crossing arm came down on the back of her mercedes. the driver behind her backed up thinking she'd do the same. but she drove forward, right into the path of that train. normally this type of collision does not impact the train to

this extent. >> we intend to find out what makes this accident different. what was it that was made this different, that caused this to be fatal to five people on board that train? >> they do think that the woman, the gasoline from the woman's suv contributed to the fire that tore through the first rail car. preliminary reports suggest the train was going under the railroad speed limit of 60 to 70 miles an hour. >> thanks chris. rescue teams are still on the scene tonight of that deadly plane crash in taiwan. it was a transasia airways jet that was pulled from the river this evening by a large crane. video shows that jet struggling to stay in the air before it clipped a bridge and went into the water. at least 31 people were killed 15 survived but 12 people are still missing. we're following the latest developments out of jordan tonight. the release of that video by

isis showing the death of a jordanian pilot being burned alive has sparked outrage across the middle east. jordan is calling on the world to join together in stamping out the islamic state. meanwhile, republicans and democrats in congress are pushing the obama administration to quickly provide aircraft part night vision equipment, and other weapons to jordan to fight the terrorist group. "nbc nightly news" anchorman brian williams is apologizing tonight for inaccurately recalling details of a personal story that he told on the broadcast last week. williams said he was traveling in a helicopter 12 years ago when it was hit by enemy fire. as it turns out, his helicopter was actually -- or he was actually in a helicopter following the one that was hit. williams was telling the story to honor a service member he befriended but he called it a bungled attempt in his words. tonight williams is being heavily criticized on social

it's hard to understand you. >> it's an update to a story we brought you first on news 4. a 911 operator under fire for the way he talked to a teenager whose father had just been hit by a car. >> that dispatcher has been transferred now. he will not have any contact with the public. and as reported the police department has launched an internal investigation. >> ma'am, ma'am, please stop yelling. stop yelling, please. >> reporter: that 911 dispatcher won't be taking any more emergency calls for a while. he's been disciplined for the way he talked to a traumatized teenager a girl who just watched her father and his fiance get hit by a car on 295 north and who was now watching her dad lay dying on the side of the road. >> so two people were struck? >> yeah they both laying -- >> let's stop whining, okay? it's hard to understand you. >> reporter: fire officials are investigating. >> we think the dispatcher and his effort to try to ascertain

information f used a poor choice of words. >> reporter: a poor choice which the captain says got the operator pulled off the phones. >> as a result of this the dispatcher has been moved to a position within the department where he will not have contact with the public. >> reporter: first responders did eventually get to that crash on the baltimore washington parkway near 198 by tracking the teen's cell phone. what they have yet to find the car and its hit-and-run driver that killed the girl's father. >> my father's laying on her. they just laying there. they're just laying there. there's nothing. >> is there someone else there i can talk to? it's so hard to -- >> it's only my little brother. i'm talking better than him right now. >> the police have not made an arrest in this case. julia pierce the woman who was hurt in that accident is in serious condition at the hospital. we've got a traffic alert for drivers in northern virginia. in just under an hour rolling closures will begin on i-66 between route 29 in centerville

and sully road. workers will shut down sections of the eastbound lanes for 30 minutes at a time. they're installing new overhead signs. the closures will last until 5:00 in the morning. road crews plan to do the same work tomorrow at midnight between route 123 and nutley street. >> they have rolling closures every day on 66 it seems like with the traffic. closure, closure, closure. >> that's called slow-moving traffic. >> is that what that is? i wasn't sure. >> but you have pleasant temperatures. >> and i'm sure windows were open today. maybe some sunroofs. maybe some people had the convertible up. get crazy, everybody. it was that warm. 55 today. nowhere near the record high. the record high today set back is 70 degrees. we can't get very warm. it was quite nice today. and look at what happens right now. 47 degrees. winds still out of the south at

10 miles per hour. we'll stay very mild overnight with that southerly wind. we still have a ways to go before the cold air really starts to move in. it is colder towards fredrick and martinsburg. 43 in leesburg. if these were the high temperatures today, it would have been a mild day, but we were well above that. nothing on the radar right now, but you don't have to go too far back to the west. look at the snow coming in through the pittsburgh area. this is all with the frontal boundary that's making its way through. it's a cold front that extends right around cleveland and cincinnati. that cold front will bring through some arctic air, and as warm as it was today, it will be equally as cold during the day tomorrow. future weather shows cloud cover early tomorrow morning. it also picks up just a few light snow showers. that's what we're going to see tomorrow. don't be surprised when you're leaving your house around 7:00 8:00 9:00 to see a few snowflakes. but that's all they're going to be. a quick snow shower that's it. 9:00 a.m. a few more maybe toward the south.

maybe around the d.c. metro area too. i do not anticipate any problems on the roads. what i do anticipate problems from is tomorrow afternoon when the cold and the wind really begin to develop. winds will be gusting upwards of 30 to 40 miles per hour. that'll really drop windchills. here we are at 7:00 a.m. windchills in the 20s. teens back towards the west. as we move through the day, even around noontime tomorrow. today, great day to get out for lunch. tomorrow not so much. windchills in the upper teens around d.c. back to the west only the single digits. watch the single digits by 6:00 get closer to d.c. then everybody sees them overnight tomorrow night. we're talking about very cold air. one of the coldest nights we've seen so far this season. now, temperatures tomorrow 31 degrees. a few flakes but not worried about those roads between 6:00 and 8:00 a.m. 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. a little different story. we have the wind so you'll feel that with the car as it makes ity dn the road. 25 degrees at that time. 32 degrees on your thursday.
