leading edge of the cold air is bringing flurries west virginia into far southwestern pennsylvania. closer in we do have a few of these flurries showing up and i gon and down 81 toward winchester. they're tracking off to the east. a few may scoot through the northern suburbs of the metro area. temperatures hovering in the upper 30s and 40. near 40 around the bay. in the mountains, still generally above freezing most locates. except look at oakland, down to just 18 degrees. they are getting that cold air right now. sky over washington now is partly to mostly cloudy. that's a live view from our tower camera. weather headlines for this cold plunge thursday early flurry possible then a cold and wendy afternoon to be followed by roller coaster temperatures as we get intond

now to that developing story. frederick high school is closed to students this morning after a shooting outside the school jim. chopper 4 was over the scene as the scary situation unfolded. this morning we know two teens were shot but the smooth shooter is still on the loose. megan mcgrath is live what we've learned. >> reporter: good morning. the big news overnight here is that frederick high school is going to be closed to students. there will be no classes held today. however staff should report as normal. the two students who were shot, they are said to be recovering. they are expected to be okay. but the search for the person or the people who fired these shots, that is ongoing. this all began to unfold around 8:00 last night during a junior varies city basketball game between frederick high and thomas johnson high school. shots rang out outside of the gym. two students were hit by those

bullets. police and security staff, security officers they secured the cafeteria and then moved everyone who was attending the game and the players, they moved them into the cafeteria area. and then began to search the rest of the campus grounds and buildings. the gunman not found. all clear eventually given. parents who had gathered in a staging area at a nearby parking lot of a bowling alley, they were then reunited with their kids an emotional scene as you can imagine as parmtdents rushed here as they heard word about the shooting. one parent tweeted out this has been the worst night of my life. shooting and lockdown at fhs. police teachers and families keep my baby safe. the school system also tweeted out, we won't let this incident define frederick high or frederick county public schools. we thank the entire community for your support. reporting live from frederick

high school megan mcgrath, news 4. some of your friends and neighbors in foggy bottom will be waking up without heat and water. a water main break is causing all kinds of problems for the jefferson house on 24th street. water flooded part of the first floor and the underground garage damaging some vehicles. it also caused a size walk to buckle making the main entrance unusable. d.c. building inspectors are trying to figure out the extent of the damage. right now for the first time since tuesday's deadly crash train service on a new york commuter line is moving again. the train departed a half hour ago from westchester county and will arrive at ground central station just before 6:00 a.m.. molette green is monitoring the route. >> trains moving again, but delays expected as the first train to operation goes over the rossing moving very slowly. there is new video overnight of

the suv thoofs involveat was involved being removed. victims being identified. we've learned wofrntone of the six killed with the metropolitan museum of art, walter leidtke, 69 years old. investigators still working this morning to learn what went wrong there and why this crash was so deadly. back to you. it's 5 after the hour. today members of the d.c. council will hear from metro riders who witnessed that smoke emergency earlier this month at the l'enfant plaza station. a public oversight round table will be held at the wilson building this afternoon. the council is looking into how metro and d.c. emergency crews responded. the meeting is set for 2:00 p.m.. metro is also about to get a rare distinction. it will become only the second u.s. transit agency to have face a comprehensive inspection by the federal government. the u.s. department of transportation will start the

today there is a public meeting at 7:00 at the washington waldorf school in bethesda. the national park service wants to increase and expand entrance and other fees to help in the park's preservation. check out the nbc washington app and certainly canal for more details. today da there will be a lot of talk about the tolls you pay on the dulles greenway.

a bill aims to change the toll strugt. right now you pay the same toll no matter how far the you travel. ram that the operator is currently looking to increase tolls by about 3%. if approved it would cost as much as $5.25 to travel the greenway during rush hour. looks like many of you will go out of your way for cheaper gas. i know i do. according to a survey of consumers, 72% of people say they would pay cash if they could save 50 5 cents a gallon. 36% will drive five minutes out of the way to save 5 cents on a gallon. you can find the cheapest gas in our area in virginia. gas is $2.04 a gallon a average. maryland paying about $2.17. d.c. has gas for an average of $2.41. gas is $2.26 in west virginia. >> so is it worth drive to go a different location to buy the

resurrect an underachieving school says she's retiring. the "washington post" reports that suzanne maxy will leave her post at tc williams. the school was singled out for having underachieving students but she's credited with changing the tone at the high school. they start the search for a new principal thegs weeknext week. according to a new survey, teens are partying less than you did. the survey also found first year college students' sense of emotional well, is at its lowest level since 1985. ucla professor results indicate this generation faces greater pressure to succeed academically and has less time to have fun. >> and i wonder how much of it. there is so much information. i think with the onset of internet and social media, there is added pressure. always knowing what is

subcommittee endorsed a measure yesterday that reduces the cap on gifts to public girls to $100. the bill also eliminates an exemption for things like meals, travel and entertainment. the measure does not include governor mcauliffe's proposal for an independent ethics commission. a virginia delegate who spends his nights in jail just voted on a law that would affect his fellow inmates. joe morrissey voted against a bill that could keep pornography out of the hands of inmates. morrissey was sentenced to six months for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. he's on a work release program that allows him to spend his days working in the general assembly and his nights spent in jail. today maryland lawmakers are officially forming a maryland latino legislative caucus. they're making the announcement today in annapolis. latinos are one of the fastest growing groups in the state.
