mark segraves news4. >> here's a better look at how close those two schools are in frederick. thomas johnson high school is just two miles or less than a ten-minute drive from frederick high school. >> and a brief lockdown has been lifted after a fight at another high school in frederick county. chopper 4 flew over tusk aurora high where police say a 16-year-old student attacked a teacher in a classroom. no word on motive. the teacher is in the hospital with minor injuries and the student is in juvenile custody. a retired army veteran is accused of threatening to shoot up the u.s. capitol building. police tell us they found guns and ammo inside his home. news4's kristin wright live on capitol hill. kristin, this investigation started back on monday. >> reporter: that's right. the man accused of threatening to shoot and kill at the u.s. capitol served in the army more than nine years including tours in iraq and afghanistan. the u.s. attorney for maryland

says the actions by law enforcement may have prevented a tragic outcome. a retired army veteran is accused of threatening to bring guns to the u.s. capitol to kill his wife and anyone standing in his way. the wife is a senate staff member wooshging at the capitol. court documents reveal several violent text messages allegedly sent by the veteran, michael bogoslavski of maryland, to his wife while she was at work at the capitol monday. "someone is going to be grieving for their family members today, including my family. i promise you that." "and i have a rifle as well so it's on." "i'm coming and shooting everyone in my way." bogoslavski's wife reported the messages to u.s. capitol police the same day. the responding special agent reports hearing bogoslavski make further threats on speakerphone. "i'm going to come up there and shoot everyone in my way.

i'm going to die suicide by cop." authorities arrested 33-year-old bogoslavski outside of the couple's home on lake avpenue home. they seized two guns and several rounds of ammunition in the house. neighbors saw the police active aand wondered what happened. they told us they never had trouble with bogoslavski. >> we had no idea what it was, but it didn't look good. >> reporter: authorities say michael bogoslavski gave us one reason for what happened here on monday. live at the u.s. capitol, kristin wright, news4. a female inmate is on life support after fairfax county sheriff's deputies used a taser on her when she was resisting arrest. she's a 37-year-old woman being transferred from fairfax county to alexandria when officials say she physically resisted.

we'll talk about what's in store for the next storm this weekend. water service should be restored soon to restaurants on r street after the water main broke in the same spot in for the second time in one week. an italian restaurant had to shut down for a day and a half. having to close again today is hurting their business and reputation. >> we miss really good business. restaurant not easy business so to create a following and to create, you know a pack of regulars. but it's easy to destroy. >> he says the restaurant has lost thousands of dollars in business. he's accused of befriending young men in bars and then attacking them in his home. >> today a montgomery county jury convicted the so-called beer pong predator on offenses against four young men.

new video was leased which you'll see here tonight. chris gordon reports. >> reporter: today we heard from jurors right after they convicted point of committing sexual offenses against four young men. >> sick. >> i think that's a nice word for it. >> i'm very glad he will not be able to prey on other young adults at any other point. >> reporter: today prosecutors released this video showing joey poindexter escorting a young college student from looney's pub in college park on october 3rd, 2013 after getting him drunk playing beer pong. 40-year-old joey poindexter took the victim to his home in gaithersburg where he sexually assaulted him. last week poindexter was convicted of that crime. the investigation led to video of more victims on poindexter's computer and that resulted in his second trial which ended today.

bandit because he dumped on the backs of players. police tell us he unlawfully touched athletes in the locker rooms at various sports events. he's spent years traveling from state to state posing as an adult member of a high school sports team touching players and asking for piggyback rides. the attorney for the man who crashed a drone onto the grounds of the white house is speaking out tonight. the lawyer for sean osman says his client has cooperated full wli the secret service investigation. last week his drone crashed onto the south lawn. federal prosecutors are deciding whether to charge him with a crime now. osman works for the national geospatial intelligence agency. his attorney released a statement that reads in part "shawn is an accomplished scientist and dedicated public servant. many of the public reports of actions with respect to this incident are inaccurate."

at this hour the d.c. council the grilling metro and first responders about that deadly spoke incident at the l'enphant plaza station. so far we're getting a bleak piee radio communications that occurred during that emergency. our transportation reporter adam tuss just stepped out of that meeting at the wilson building to give us a live update. adam? >> reporter: wendy, some revealing discussions happening inside the wilson building right now. we're going on our fourth hour of this meeting. so far the biggest comments coming from the union reps that represent d.c. fire and ems worker, the front line workers. communication has been such a large part of this whole thing, first responders being able to communicate effectively with one another. we know there were problems but could there be larger issues? if fire crews and ems crews could not talk effectively with one another that day, what about right now? listen to this back and forth between the d.c. council and the head of the union that represents ems workers in d.c.

the first leader of the holy see to address a joint meeting of congress. that visit is scheduled for september 24th. pope francis will also stop in philadelphia and new york during his fall trip. today pope francis made a virtual appearance in several countries, and he called himself a dinosaur when it comes to using technology. that comment came during a google hangout chat. yeah he does those now too. he answered questions from kids with special needs living in brazil india, spain and here in the u.s. the children showed the pope how they use technology including braille, key pads tablets, and cameras. lots of toll talk today in loudoun county. delegate david ramadan introduced a bill that would change the toll structure on the dulles green way. right now you pay the same toll no matter how far you go. ramadan wants it to be based on distance. he's also calling for stricter oversight of the private operate

or the of that road. that operator is currently looking to increase tolls by about 3%. doug is here and boy does he have a throwback thursday for us. do we want to see this? >> five years ago. >> you want to see this if you love snow. i was in my element 19 hours reporting on this storm straight outside the entire time and boy, it was fun. but not for these people. this was of course snowmageddon that fell on parts of our region upwards of 18 inches in d.c. over 30 inches back towards the dulles region. you know what happened. we saw school closures for a couple days by far one of the worst storms we've seen in our history around our area and that just closed out the 2009-2010 season as the snowiest season we've seen in this area. for you snow lover, yeah not a whole lot of snow going on in the next couple days but a lot of our snowstorms still come in the month of february or even early march so we still have time. now, outside today it's the wind. take a look at the -- i almost said the snowcaps on the water.

that's how much i want snow. the white caps out there today. a little bit of wind for sure. take a look at what the wind is doing. 30 degrees, but that windchill at 16 right now. it is brutal outside, especially downtown through some of those taller buildings. actual temperatures 23 in gaithersburg 25 in martinsburg, 31 in fredericksburg. so a far cry from where we were during the day yesterday. it's all because of the winds. gusting upwards of 30 miles per hour. 29-mile-an-hour wind gusts this past hour in leesburg and in culpepper, 29 down towards paw tungs et river and the eastern shore. we'll see the winds through the evening so the feels-like temperature will go down. these are the windchills at 8:00. 5 in gaithersburg 7 in leesburg 11 in 11:00 tonight, everybody is in the single digits across our region. the wind does die overnight. at least it will become a little more calm. by tomorrow morning our windchills will come up our actual temperatures will come down but at least our windchill rts in the teens, right? manageable. no i don't think so. still going to be a cold start

to the day on your friday even during a friday afternoon, seeing windchills in the upper teens to low 20s. we're talking about another cold day tomorrow but no snow. storm team 4 radar is dry. look at this as we widen out. there goes our front, brought us a few snow showers earlier but behind this we have nothing out there at all. clear skies tonight, a nice day tomorrow. i do think it will be a nice afternoon after that cold start. high of 38 degrees tomorrow, 43 down towards fredericksburg 36 in gaithersburg. we get warmer as we move towards the weekend. 52 on saturday and now sunday we're saying dry, 55 degrees as that storm goes a little farther to the north. that means a better chance for rain coming up on monday. high temperature on monday of 42 degrees. only chance of snow comes on tuesday morning, and it's just a chance for light snow with a high of 38 degrees. so we're going on the mild side chances of snow going way down. i asked you on my facebook page what you thought about that sending your face if you don't like snow.

board that plane with now confirmed dead. after that plane clipped that bridge and plunged into a river shortly after takeoff yesterday, today the mayor of taipei said many more may have died if the pilot hadn't narrowly avoided the surroundings buildings, and there were many as you can see. rescue crews are still pulling wreckage from the water. they have recovered the plane's engine and its black box recorders. trains are running again along the metro north line in new york as investigators continue to sift through the wreckage of this week's ddly commuter train crash. that train plowed into an suv on the tracks. the driver of that vehicle, ellen brody, was among the six killed in the crash. a witness who was driving behind brody says he backed up from the tracks so she could do the same after the crossing arm came down on her vehicle. but she apparently pulled further onto the tracks instead. >> i gestured to come back. i backed up again further to

>> thank you, pat. we have a developing story out of columbia south carolina. the shooting you may have heard about at the university of south carolina. it is now being investigated as a murder/suicide. but the school won't say if it involves students. gunshots sent students scrambling this afternoon. people in the nearby statehouse were warned to stay inside. the last time there was a shooting on this campus was 1979. it occurred during a frat party. a virginia-based insurance company is the latest to fall victim to a security breach. anthem says tonight anyone who's been covered in the past or present is at risk. >> and that could be up to 80 million people. nbc news justice correspondent pete williams joins us with a look at this. i mean here we go again. is it just the hackers are that good or our fire walls are that bad? >> well, a little of both, probably. anthem the is a company based in the midwest but it does have customers in virginia and 13 other states. the company has a tabs of 80

million current and former customer and employees and it's trying to go through it a and figure out in how many cases was information breached. it says it's going to start e-mailing customers and sending letters, but this is going to take a couple weeks to work out. information that wasn't obtained the company says is credit card numbers or medical information, but it says there was a trove of information that was taken out, names, dates of birth, social security number addresses, e-mail addresses, and also employment information. the very kind of thing that's of most value to people trying to steal your identity. so the company says it will offer free identity protection and credit monitoring to people who were affected and the experts say, in fact there's not a lot that customers can do about this right now because if there's no way to prevent a crime from happening with someone tale stealing your data although one suggestion is that if you worry about this you can call the credit reporting

agencies equifax and the others and ask them to freeze your social security number. that way nobody can open a credit card or get a line of credit using your social security number by the way, including you, you would have to call them back and ask them to unfreeze it that's one possibility. >> why not. that could work. >> good advice. from days to week often it takes that long for people to find out about these breaches but a committee in the senate is trying to come up with a bill to create more transparency. what are the likely chans that's going to happen? >> there's a lot of interest in trying to get more cybersecurity legislation. that's one possibility. the other is more sharing of information from the corporate world to the fbi. but the fbi is giving this company credit. usually the companies find out from the investigators that they've been hacked. in this case they say anthem discovered it itself notified the fbi, which could then start investigating quickly, which can help when you're trying to follow the lead. >> okay. pete williams thank you so much.

>> you bet. >> always good to see you. we are getting another look now at some of the items police seized from a home filled with squatters in prince george's county. check out these pictures we got in today. the officers say they recovered ecstasy pill nearly 50 grams of marijuana, a stolen motorcycle stolen gun, and a stolen rolls-royce-styled golf cart. seven have now been arrested for taking up residence in this abandoned mansion in the exclusive tantallon neighborhood. it was the second time in six months this home has been raided. new leads in a group attack near a busy metro station. police are still looking for six kids or teens accused of assaulting a woman near the columbia heights station last month. officers did make one arrest on january 30th charging a boy with assault. three girls were arrested and charged on monday. a total of ten people were accused in this attack. >> we should have an update soon on how the kennedy center expansion project is moving

along. the national capital planning commission met in afternoon. in december they approved a preliminary site and building plans for the project. today they're hoping for input from the kennedy center about a proposed floating river front pavilion. new at 5:00, the national gallery of art is acquiring a treasure trove of art from the now defunct corcoran gallery. more than 6,400 works of american and european art and some of it is going to go on display at the national gallery starting tomorrow. the corporate closed last year. it has an estimated $2 billion worth of art. the national gallery is expecting to acquire even more corcoran art in a future transfer. the museum's director says this is going to quote, redefine the national gallery's american collection. the help wanted sign is out at a new supermarket coming to the ft. belvoir area of fairfax county and tonight we know the opening date for wegmans. sunday june 14th at 7:00 a.m.

>> the proposed merger is directly counter to the competitive marketplace and is bad for consumers because it could reduce reliability, raise rates and risk public safety. >> exelon issued a statement in response to today's protest -- "exelon and pepco holdings welcome input from all stake holders in our proposed merger. the commitments we have offered in the merger will strengthen our support for the community." five defendants are convicted for their roles in that massive smuggling scheme in the baltimore jail. this happened in 2013 at the baltimore city detention center. federal authorities say the gang members of the black gorilla family ruled that jail. they smuggled in cell phones so they could direct crimes outside, and they were having sex with the guards even impregnating them. 44 people, inmates and corrections officer, have been indicted now. this case sparked harsh criticism. it led to some personnel and technology changes in maryland's correction facilities.

you look in your rear-view mirror and see red and blue lights on a car following close behind. most cases it's a cop and you need to pull over. >> tonight virginia state police are warning of a man they tell us was impersonating an officer trying to stop cars. david culvert is live along i-66 in prince william county with what police are asking from us all. david? >> reporter: jim and wendy, this is where police say that suspected fake cop was trying to pull people over. this part of 66 right here in prince william county. but it was the suspicion from another driver that ultimately led to an arrest. looking at a mark police cruiser, not difficult to see this is a legitimate squad car. but it's the unmarked cars like this chevy impala that can be a little tougher to judge.

especially when you compare this real police cruiser to this one. notice it's even got the red and blue lights. but virginia state police say this one is a fake. the driver 23-year-old sherif ahmad. police tell me another driver was cruising down this part of 66 near haymarket when they noticed a white impala with blue and red lights trying to pull people over. he was suspicious so he went ahead and called 911. that other driver gave police the license plate number. they found ahmad a few blocks from his home sitting in the mock cruiser. they want to know if he's tried this on others. one trooper says these cases are frustrating. >> it kind of puts suspicion in the public eye as who's legitimate and who's not and it makes it a little tough for us to kind of break that barrier when we do stop the vehicle. >> reporter: last week this man was arrested accused of trying to pull over an off-duty cop. mark holt pleaded guilty to carrying a fictitious i.d. police found he had fake federal

8:00 a.m. between 15 and 20. noontime around 20 to 25. and notice how we're moving in the right direction. by 4:00 between 25 and 30 degrees. that but with some sunshine. i think we'll see lighter winds during the afternoon. some sunshine. the afternoon will be a lot better. so a cold start but a better afternoon. temperatures tomorrow morning right around the 15- to 20-degree range but rising 36 to 43. 43 down in places like fredericksburg maybe around quantico and charlottesville. how about our next storm system? this is the one we've been talking about for sunday and monday. sunday i don't think it will be an event at all. it will stay just to the north. that means we're in the warm sector. anything that falls from this will fall as rain late sunday night into the day on monday. this is really going to be a monday event with more rain than snow. but as it transitions off the coast, we could see some of that colder air come in during the day on tuesday. we could see a little bit of a mix monday night, but then tuesday we do have a chance for some snow. new york boston again, boston going to get hit with this one

high school but there's a long list of high schools that won't be getting in new school anytime soon because of the backlog. some dell galts in annapolis are saying they have the answer. with the addition of the outlets and the incoming mgm casino some state politicians are saying now is the time to raise the sales tax in prince george's county from 6% to 7% and use that money for school construction. >> prince george's county, if you buy a soda for 99 cents instead of paying $1.04, it will be $1.05. >> reporter: that could yield close to $100 million a year according to jaywalker and delegate alonzo washington. >> if the people of prince george's county are willing to step up and invest in their school facilities allow us to do so. >> reporter: the prince george's county school system has $247 million in construction needs for the 2015-2016 school year. they've requested $177.9 million from the county and are still awaiting approval.

governor larry hogan is allocating $250 million statewide for school construction and is promising only $17.8 million of that to prince george's. the system is bracing for another shortfall in school construction dollars next year. >> right now we have a $2 billion backlog in school construction dollars and maintenance issues. >> reporter: if passed out of annapolis, the increase would go to referendum next year. some shoppers we spoke with were all for it. other, not so much. >> there have to be other ways. i think maryland has enough competition where virginia the district. there has to be another way. >> taxes are taxes. why not something potzive? >> i'm not to poed to it provided the money goes to where it's supposed to go. i'm 100% in favor of it. >> reporter: now, the bill has just been introduced so it has a long ways to go. it will have to make it out of annapolis, then the county council is going to have to approve it to go onto a

hospital tonight after falling through an icy pond playing with a friend. tonight his mother is telling her story and has questions about why other children aren't being protected. she spoke to our sister station in baltimore. >> he's a sweet boy. he's a sweet boy. >> reporter: lincola benjamin can only hope her sweet boy, chive, will make it. he's still in intensive care after he fell through an iced-over pond in landsowne last week. his good friend fell in too, but did not survive. i just want him to get better. and i feel so sorry for the other little boy, you know? and i can't even tell her right now what's going on because it might set him back.
