what an employee of a local spa is accused of doing to his clients. breaking news this afternoon, police surround a local apartment building as they try to piece together how a woman died. >> chris is gathering details. >> tracee wilkins just called in with an update but police are still trying to figure out a lot of the details of exactly what happened there. we know officers were called to edwards way in adelphi, maryland around 11:30 this morning to check on a woman. when they got there, they found a woman on the second story of an apartment building with trauma to her upper body but they aren't saying what type of trauma killed her. she was pronounced dead a short time later. police are still trying to find a suspect and establish a motive. they've been telling tracie most of the people in this apartment complex are elderly, that most of the deaths that occur there are people who happen to pass away in their sleep. so this was very unusual. she's been talking to residents an police. she's going to have an update. i'm chris lawrence.

>> thank you. now to the shock for customers at a district nail salon learning their peddie curist is accused of molesting other patrons. >> kristin wright got the documents that spell out exactly what the worker did and how long it's reportedly been going on. >> reporter: three female customers of color nail salon and spa say they were inappropriately touched bay nail tech. it's on p street near dupont circumstance until northwest d.c. court records detail sex abuse charges against hung nguyen known as "tiger" at the salon. one woman says after a pedicure the defendant later began to massage her shoulders, then put his hand inside of her shirt according to charging documents. the suspect then placed his handle inside her pants. the owner of the hair salon downstairs is also one of tiger's customers. >> my reaction would be surprise shocked. i've been going to him to do my

nails and i neve saw that really in him. >> the abuse at the nail salon allegedly happened between november of 2013 and august of 2014. at 5:00 hear what an employee and friend says about the allegations. a trial date is set for april. in northwest, kristin wright news4. first at 4, there are calls now for increased training for d.c. firefighters after yet another smoke incident on metro. you may have seen us break this story online just before 1:00. smoke began to fill the dupont circle metro station. this video is of smoke sent to us by a viewer today. dozens of firefighters responded and found a brake on a metro car caught fire. no one was hurt. it come just three weeks after that smoke incident at l'enphant plaza killed a woman and sent 80 others to the hospital. those incidents are putting increased focus on how well firefighters are trained. a d.c. council hearing yesterday

revealed only 100 d.c. firefighters were trained for a metro incident last year and more than half of all firefighters in the district have never received specialized training. d.c.'s fire chief says he has already ordered an increased training. coming up at 5:00 tonight, the fire union speaks with mark segraves about a tool they say would make that training more effective. from the white house to the pentagon and beyond. u.s. officials say they can't confirm the isis claim that an american female hostage was killed in an air strike in syria today. the family of 26-year-old kayla mueller has given us permission to release her name and use her picture. isis claims she was buried in the rubble of a building hit by jordanian aircraft. that is not confirmed. jordanian officials say they're skeptical of the claim and believe it's isis propaganda. muler is from arizona. she was working for doctors without borders when she was kidnapped by isis in aleppo syria, in august of 2013.

a tow truck had to pull this van from someone's driveway after the driver lost control and hit a home in silver spring. this happened around 11:00 this morning. the house on kinds street off university boulevard east. we're told the driver was backing up hit a parked car, and then crashed into the house near the garage. the driver was checked out on the scene. no one else was injured. the house was not badly damaged, but a county building inspector was notified just in case. right now, students standing together just a couple of days after someone shot two students outside a local high school basketball game. tonight, frederick high school hosts its first game since that shooting. and extra security will be on hand. news4's megan mcgrath was there as students returned to the classroom today for the first time since the gunfire. >> reporter: students returned to class for the first time since the shooting. many of them wearing frederick high school colors gold and black.

>> to support the school. it had nothing to do with frederick high i don't think, but it happened on our territory, so just have to support. >> reporter: in the wake of the violence students have taken to social media, urging unity and strength and calling for a large turnout at tonight's varsity basketball game. >> it doesn't define us so i'm just happy to be back and be together as a family with the rest of the school. >> the incident that occurred the other night, it's sad but it doesn't define us as a school and we want to show everyone that we're going to come back stronger than ever. go fred rig high! >> reporter: it was wednesday night during a jv game versus thomas johnson high that shots rang out just outside the gym. two students were hit, and according to the last hospital update one teen is now listed in critical condition. the victims are not from frederick high. police have not identified the person or people who fired the shots. no arrests have been made which

about 30 seconds before the train hit her. five passengers on board the train also died. the first huge rainstorm in months is making its way to california and it's expected to be powerful with strong winds nearly 4 inches of rain. residents are bracing themselves and their homes. the last storm back in december caused massive flooding. some places still recovering. today people are loading up on sandbags and hoping to get ahead head of what's to come. house speaker john boehner just ordered that flags be lowered at the u.s. capitol after the loss of a congressman who passed away following a battle with cancer. alan none alan nunely died today after a struggle with brain cancer. he's represented his home district in washington since 2011. he was diagnosed last may and suffered a stroke recently. he and his family learned last week that medical treatment could no longer help him. noneley was 56 years old. first at 4 today, changes at a daycare after an outbreak of

a daycare center in chicago was mandating staff vaccinations after children came down with the measles. public health officials are investigating a cluster of measles at kinder daycare center.

two kids were diagnosed with the measles yesterday and another ten may have been exposed. all of the children are too young to be vaccinated. now kinlder care is requiring vaccinations for all staff member who is work with kids under 15 months of age. these cases are not linked to california's disneyland outbreak. after years of meeting resistance the soldiers wounded in the deadly attack on ft. hood will receive purple hearts. 13 people were killed and more than 30 wounded in the attack by major nidal hassan. the army previously said the attack didn't meet the criteria for a purple heart, but congress changed the wording this year to include attacks inspired or motivated by a foreign terrorist organization. hassan was convicted by court-martial in 2013 and sentenced to death. it's what a lot of people don't want to hear this time of year one of the country's biggest tax preparers is going to extreme measures to chemoyour money safe. but it could mean a delay in

taxpayers and how to keep you and your money safe and secure. >> turbotax has stopped processing the state filings in response to what it call an increase in suspicious filings. criminals who use stolen identity information to file fraudulent state tax returns and then claim tax refunds. intuit says it does not think the fraud is the result of a security breach of its systems. the company says its goal is to resume e-filing in a matter of hours rather than days. and if you suspect any fraud, intuit has identity protection agents that can help and you can find that resource on our website, nbcwashington.com, and just search "taxes." now we're going to an update on that anthem hack. the company says those affected by the hack will hear from the company directly. you're going to get a letter from-in the mail. we're talking snail mail and not e-mail. anthem is warning customers about scam artists sending fraudulent e-mails and phone

clear sky. the thing is though, a mostly clear sky throughout the area. here's a look at some of the wind gusts, still gusting around 22 leesburg to cull pepper but really calming down during the overnight period. on the satellite/radar right now off to the west nothing much in the sky. should make for some pretty decent viewing of the international space station that will be making a flyover very high in the sky starting at 6:21 and for about five minutes as you look from the southwest to the east-northeast it should be great viewing. now, it is going to be bright enough. the cool thing about the international space station is you can see it from the city moves very fast like a plane, but thousands of miles faster. so i've got a lot more information on my facebook page. the mission of the international space station. big story for the weekend is the warmth. that warm air coming up from out of the south and going across the mid-atlantic states. we'll have a springlike weekend for us feeling a lot like march. rain now hold off for sunday

until in fact early monday morning. then when the rain comes in just a few showers when that rain does come in. i'm going to talk a little more about how much rain we're expecting a little later in the newscast. look at the high temperature for tomorrow. 52 in d.c. arias like frederick, mt. airy 48 leesburg around areas like falls church 53 degrees for a high temperature again with some early morning clouds afternoon sunshine but warmer conditions certainly than today as we move from the 30s to the low 50s. and on sunday right now, your high temperature close to 60 degrees. in fact i think there will be some neighborhoods just south of d.c. across southern maryland that will top out just above 60 degrees. so we're partly sunny and very springlike coming up for weekend, especially on sunday. again, that rain holds off until early part of next week. showers for monday 60% chance 50s for highs, 40s for lows so yeah even the snow that we were looking at earlier during the

they found hundreds of different types of bacteria on subways including a few linked to illnesses like bubonic plague and meningitis. the majority of the samples were harmless and pose no public health ris sock no need to panic. more worries for the family of bobbi kristina brown today. two members of her family were involved in a nasty fight last night in atlanta. police say it happened around midnight during a birthday party for her father at a downtown hotel. singer brown was spotted yesterday outside the hospital where his daughter bobbi kristina, is still fighting for her life. she was found saturday face down in the bathtub at her georgia home. can you tell me why you're cry ing? cr? >> aw.

launched in advanceing numbers in the last few days and hugely supported by the public here. >> we do not at the present have any evidence to corroborate isil's claims. >> reporter: there have been thousands on the streets. now it looks as if isis thinks this might swing the public back towards its favor, but the simple reality is that they the claim by isis cannot be confirmed, has not been confirmed b nbc news. back to you. secretary of state john kerry is chuck todd's guest on "meet the press" this week. you can watch that sunday morning at 10:30. the january jobs report is out today and it shows employers hired at a stellar pace last month. the economy gained 257,000 jobs. hourly wages made their biggest gains since september of 2008. average pay jumped 12 cents to $24.75 an hour. but the unemployment rate actually ticked up a little to 5.7% from 5.6%.

even that's not all bad. analysts say more americans began looking for work job hunting suggests they are more confident about their prospects. commuters who use virginia railway express could be facing a fare hike. vre is proposing a 4% hike. it would take effect in july. there will be seven public hearings on the proposal later this month and in march. to find out where and when, visit our home page and search vre. a delay in the fairfax county assault trial for jesse matthew. matthew's lawyers convinced the judge they need more time to analyze the dna evidence. prosecutors did not object. matthew is accused in a 2005 sexual assault in fairfax. he's also charged with abducting university of virginia student hannah graham. the new fairfax trial date is likely to be in june or july. a field trip this afternoon in the murder trial of aaron hernandez. jurors were on a bus ride visiting several key sites in this case. the former nfl player is akutzed

of the 2013 killing of odin lloyd, who was dating his fiance's sister. jurors are seeing the boston street here where lloyd lived and the industrial park where his body was found. they're getting a tour of hernandez's home as well and seeing several cell phone towers that picked up data investigators used to build their case. hernandez is not on the tour but lawyers for both sides and the judge are attending. people are using flowers and notes in the university of south carolina professor killed in a murder/suicide. he taught anatomy and physiology. so far no word on the shooter's identity or their relationship. but authorities believe the two had a, quote, history together. classes resumed today and the university is providing counseling. proof of just how tough it is to be a firefighter. they don't stop battling a blaze even if it's the firefighter who is on fire.

take a look at this. at the scene of a fire down in texas, flames from melting shingles dripped onto the firefighter as he was up on a ladder. several spots on his back caught fire. a fellow firefighter beat the flames out with his hand. he wasn't hurt. and he even stayed to finish dousing the flames. the house, though is a total loss. consider yourself warned. crews will be shutting down lanes on one of our region's most congested roads. first 4 traffic's melissa mollet tells us what to look out for. a traffic alert if you travel i-66. there will be some major roadwork overnight. this work was supposed to happen last night but high winds delayed the project. around midnight tonight, crews will shut down all eastbound lanes of 66 between route 29 and centreville and sully road. crews are installing overhead signs to give you extra information on the roelds. the road should reopen by 5:00

this saep played out in kentucky this morning. 20 students take on the hospital but no life-threatening injuries. a 19-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after he was trapped waist deep in snow for 48 hours. he was skiing in the swiss alps and got caught in a snowstorm on sunday falling more than 100 feet into a freezing ravine. tuesday he was finally able to climb out. he spent nearly five hours yelling for help and eventually alerted some passing skiers. >> when they first answered me that was incredible just to have someone respond after not talking to anyone or having anyone hear me for almost, you know 2 navidehs. that was definitely phenomenal. >> he's now recovering from only a mild case of hypothermia. the mother of a 6-year-old boy wanted to teach him a lesson about stranger dang sore she conspired with other family members and staged a fake

kidnapping. christina coleman explains why police say this was torte for a boy who was considered to be too nice. >> reporter: cindy and alan williams live near the home of the suspects arrested for kidnapping the young boy. >> they didn't talk didn't wave didn't -- like we wasn't even here. >> reporter: but the williams say they never imagined their neighbors would be facing kidnapping charges. investigators say the boy's mother 25-year-old elizabeth hupp hiss grovm, rose brewer and his aunt denise kroutil, plotted to kidnap the boy. depp sis tay denise kroutil asked her co-worker, nathan firoved, to kidnap her nephew because he was too nice to him. >> can you do this as a family favor, our son is too nice too polite too open. >> reporter: they lured the boy in swoo his pickup truck after he left the school bus. >> he told the victim he wasn't going to see his family anymore,

that he was going to be nailed to a shed and he'll never go home. >> reporter: investigators say the boy cried so he was tied up with trash bags covered his head with a jacket and eventually took the boy to the boy's own basement. deputies say the child's aunt took off his pants. >> and being told at the same time that he's going to the sex slavery trade. the family members felt they had done nothing wrong and continue to feel they have done nothing wrong. >> i'm so glad that our kids did do not go over there. >> in the 11 years i've been in law enforcement i've never seen anything like this. when this is okay to terrorize a child, to tell them they're gor suspects face felony kidnapping abuse, and neglect charges. the boy is now staying with other relatives. now at 5:00 a woman found dead in prince george's county. jim, wendy? >> someone killed a woman, there's no motive there is no suspect.

this has an entire community in fear and waiting for answers from police. >> prince george's county police say they found a woman after a call for help late this morning in adelphi. she was found in an apartment building on the 9200 block of edwards way. >> that's where we find county bureau chief tracee wilkins. what are you hearing? >> reporter: prince george's county police are still here on the scene. they're still working on the second floor to try and figure out exactly what happened here. they were called to check on this person's condition and when they got here they found this woman was dead, again, on the second floor. they're still allowing residents to come in and out of this building as they continue this investigation, but they are questioning everyone on the floor where this woman's body was found. at this point, no information about her age, no information in terms of exactly what happened to cause this death, the manner of death. they're only calling it blunt force trauma to the upper body.
