>> a high school basketball player relives the terrifying moments of a double shooting. 18 months. that's how long prosecutors say the wife of former virginia governor bob mcdonnell should spend behind bars. good evening. i'm doreen gentzler. >> and i'm jim vance. that recommended sentence stells from maureen mcdonnell's conviction on corruption charges. our chris lawrence reports, the defense team has other ideas. >> reporter: we got the court documents showing prosecutors asking for the 18 months but her defense team does not want maureen mcdonnell to serve even a single day. mcdonnell's attorneys argues they should be put on probation and do 4,000 hours of community service. if a sentence is handed down maureen is requesting a split term. prison and home confinement. this calls for virginia's former

first lady to serve five to six years in prison. based on the 24 months her husband bob mcdonnell received they feel a year and a half is fair. even though was her husband who sold his office she eagerly participated in the conspiracy. group of sending firearms accessories and military equipment in the mail to turkey then sent to syria. all six are natives of bosnia who immigrated to the united states. meanwhile, still no proof that an american aid worker held by isis was killed today in syria. the terror group claimed 26-year-old kayla jean mueller died in a jordanian air strike but the terror group has not provided any evidence of tha a decent crowd turned out at frederick high school for a basketball game tonight, two days after a double shooting at that school. our shomari stone reports now that some people are still struggling to shake the memory of the mayhem on wednesday ni >> really an emotional game. >> reporter: chris sambola is a point guard on the jv basketball team and tonight recalls wednesday's chaos when someone shot two teens outside the gym in the middle of a game against rival thomas johnson high. >> i was on the floor.

all i remember was -- boom boom. somebody security guard running in. they're shooting and then everybody started running out. >> reporter: officers locked down the school and searched for the shooter and didn't find the suspect. the two victims were not students at frederick high. one remainsed hospitalized. the coach says his team hid in the locker room. >> protect my kids. protect the kids first, fans second. >> reporter: police believe the victims were targeted and the shooting is possibly gang related or a beef between the two rival schools. >> wednesday night, really bad. we didn't want that to affect our game play. our play isn't going to be affected by that. we wanted to prove that tonight and we did. >> reporter: the first game since the shots rang out, frederick beat the opposing team 56-55, both teams going home with concerned harts. >> >> hearts. >> praise go out to the victims.

>> reporter: people are definitely keeping the victims in their prayer and tweeting out messages of support. search sfh strong. even made t-shirt people wore with a #sfsstrong. in frederick, shomari stone, news 4. following a developing story out of adelphi. police arrested 54-year-old rudolph phelps connection tore a murder earlier today. called to edwards way about 11:30 this morning for a welfare check and found a woman unresponsive inside a condo who died a short time later. investigators say phelps recently got into an argument with the vick tham escalated to murder. he's charged with first-degree murder. a d.c. elementary school charged with violating trust of the special education students in thi his care. the sickening allegations involve a 9-year-old child. how the accusations came to

light. >> reporter: the accused is a special education teacher at this school in northeast washington. the alleged victim, just 9 years old. court documents say the teacher, 33-year-old leroy damien ware came to the attention of d.c. police after a 9-year-old student at miner elementary in northeast washington told his mother the teacher touched him in his private place. the boy said the alleged incident happened in a classroom during recess. sometime between thanksgiving and christmas. the court documents indicate that when asked about the incident ware told detectives he's found the child sitting at computer with his hands down his pants and made contact trying to remove the boy's hands. ware was released with a stay-away order until his next court appearance. in northeast washington jackie bensen news 4. a nail technician in dupont circle facing sex abuse allegations from kucht mers at the salon. hung nguyen works at the color

salon and spa on p street northwest. he touched three women inappropriately while giving them pedicures. one of nguyen's colleagues says the allegations are not true. >> i think he didn't do it. i don't believe that he does. >> i've been going to him to do my nail, and i'd never thought that really in him. >> investigators say the alleged incidents happened between november of 2013 and last august. police initially arrested nguyen back in december. he's facing even additional sex abuse charges from a court appearance earlier this week. in woodbridge virginia tonight, five people had to be taken to the hospital after either a gas leak or a carbon monoxide buildup inside laundromat. crew still on the scene trying to determine what caused the leak. d.c.'s interim fire chief

says every one of his firefighters will be trained to handle emergencies on metro. more than half of the district's firefighters have never received that special training. a smoke incident at the dupont circle station highlighted that need again today. the brakes on a car caught fire and filled the station with smoke. d.c.'s fire union wants to be given old metro cars in order to train for those situations. the mayor says she'll look into that. incredible video of fire on the water. tonight in glen burnie a power boat ignited at the marine flaa and spread to two sailboats. one eventually sank. no word what started this. new at 11:00, iced over ponds are dangerous to more than just humans of course. fairfax rescue crews pull add dog through the pond after it fell through thin ice. you can barely see the dog's head in that earlier picture. the owner tried to reach the dog

saying the number of people driving drunk is going down but the number of people driving while drugged is on the increase. since 2007 the number of people getting behind the wheel with alcohol in their system has fallen by one-third. but the survey finds that one in four drivers, 25%, admit to driving while drugged with some substance or another. the national highway traffic safety administration conducted that survey as part of its effort to find trends in america's driving habits. california is getting drenched in rain. nevada is coated with dust. look at this. check out the dust storms kicked up by strong winds near reen pope can't even really see anything in reno. low visibility led to several accidents. >> and they 90 mile-an-hour winds today in carson city just to the south of reno today. tahoe gets all the rain and snow. they get the dust in the desert. >> looks nasty. >> the good news san francisco, four inches of rain and they

all rain for the day on monday. once again, though giving new england more snow. behind i we get cold and i mean really cold towards the end of next week and it looks like it could be prolonged cold. this last snap really only one day, maybe a day and a half. the next one could be a little longer. take a look at the temperatures next few days. 52 on saturday. 59 on sunday. still 53 on monday but showers will be likely. not talking all-day rain here but you'll need the umbrella during the day. 42 tuesday. 47 wednesday. we moderate a bit but look at next thursday and friday. that's the cold air that really starts to come in here. 35 on thursday. a high of 25 on friday. and if that holds, that could be the coldest day we've seen so far this season and it looks like the weekend right now, which does i valentine's day -- >> no. the weekend ahead? >> i have to know that. doreen trust me. >> a week to plan for valentine's day.
