>> gaining a lot of mileage out of that book. >> it's just starting. >> welcome to news 4 today. we are ready for a warm up. >> it looks like we are going to get one possibly today. what do you say, chuck? >> the warm up is under way. temperatures though cold are milder than yesterday to the tune of about a 10 to 15 degree improvement for out the door and that will be repeated by later today. outside scanning the skies, "fifty shades of grey." first thing this morning as you mentioned. temperatures are seasonally cold compared to 17 yesterday. a big improvement and typical for early february to be in the 20s to 30s. might need the sun glasses from time to time but it will be a delightfully low impact from a weather perspective. 20s and 30s and should be rising

mueller was killed by a jordanian air strike yesterday. there were no u.s. or combat missions near the area where isis said miller was killed. terrorists abducted her in 2013 as she was volunteering with syrian refugees. her parents didn't want it publicized. she is the only known u.s. hostage still held by isis. six residents facing terrorism charges for helping groups including isis and qaeda in iraq. they are accused of sending weapons and other supplies overseas. here's a list of what they got. firearms and uniforms and tactical gear and other equipment. they alleged lie shipped those items and all six are from bosnia and immigrated from the u.s. >> the first late could spend the next year and a half behind bars however her defense team

does not want her to serve a single day. they are arguing she should be on probation and do 4,000 hours of community service. if the judge does happened down a prison sentence she is requesting a split term prison and home confinement. in a statement, the u.s. attorney said mrs. mcdonald benefitted from the bribery by receiving a $19,000 shopping spree and participating in multiple expensive dinners and vacations and at times exuberant. the former first lady will be sentenced in two weeks if she gets prison time. they allow her to remain free on bond. more on the story and how mcdonald's sentencing is affecting his wife. >> a prince george's county man is arrested on murder charges. police arrested redolph phelps yesterday. they were called around 11:30 in the morning yesterday and were there for a welfare check and

found a woman unresponsive in a condo and she died a short time later. they got into an argument with the victim that escalated to murder. he is charged with first-degree murder. >> his job is to help kids but this morning a school teacher in washington accused of violating the trust of special education student in his care. they involved a 9-year-old child. jackie benson looks at how the accusations came to light. >> the accused is in northeast washington and the alleged victim just 9 years old. the teacher 33-year-old leroy came to the attention of d.c. police after a student in northeast washington told his mother the teacher touched him in his private place and it happened during recess betweening this and christmas. they said when asked about it

draft. a steep, steady climb and out of the 20s and 30s into the 40s for most of the day. the high is right around 50. that will be a nice one. going out for your saturday night on the town dinner and a movie. still dry. temperatures near 40. if you are doing any traveling, quiet weather from washington southbound but in new york or new england, winter weather advisories are up again. they could get another couple of inches of snow on top of the 50 or 60 they had in the last week and a half. for us nothing to worry about. we have a little bit of a cloud and sun challenge. we will call it partly to mostly cloudy but with the return of a light south breeze. it will be cool but not cold compared to yesterday when it was chilly to be outside. by saturday night, raindrops staying away from us. lows back into the 30s as opposed to teens and 20s.

that will happen in har shotsville. in june or july he will be tried on that attempted murder and rape charge. >> five more measles cases at a daycare in chicago. infants at kinder care learning center are the latest to be diagnosed. kinder care told all families nationwide they will mandate vaccinations for all-star working with children under the age of 15 months. the u. centers for disease control and prevention confirmed at least 102 measles cases in 14 states not including the newly diagnosed cases in illinois. >> with more cases of the measles being diagnosed, taking a closer look at immunization requirements for schools. we did some checking in. maryland virginia and the district all allow families to opt out for vaccines for religious reasons. there varying regulations based on other exemptions. west virginia and mississippi are the only states that do not

allow exemptions. >> the flu is hitting the university of maryland hard. the campus director sent an e-mail to students and staff saying many people are turning up at the school clinic with viral infections including the flu. he encouraged those who are sick with a fever to stay away from others for at least 24 hours until the fever has broken. dr. david mcbride said it is okay to make the decisions without a visit to the campus health center. >> another step to allow pot in d.c. the office said d.c. should be able to legalize marijuana without the federal government getting in the way. the district should be allowed to govern itself and last november they voted to legalize small amounts of pot and congress moved to block that. the council is not giving up. they sent the initiative to congress. if congress does not act, the decriminalization law will likely take effect.

only 100 firefighters took part in training last year. one suggestion to make it easier to train was to bring old cars to the d.c. training facility. >> it sounded nice. we will see what metro has to say. >> the military met the cars close to d.c. where they trained for terrorist attacks. the firefighters in the region had to travel to metro's training facility to get the same hands on experience. d.c. mayor was noncommittal on the request to get their own cars for training. >> we have to make best use of resources. i don't know that that's the answer when we have it set up at metro, but i am happy to look into that. >> the mayor and the chief have promised to increase training. right now less than half of the 1700 firefighters have gone through that hands on training. >> every firefighter will go through this. >> as for why the department had fallen behind the chief pointed to the previous mayor and chief.

another five to six today. we can't buy a snow flake here in our area. it's not going to change this weekend with the talk of milder air coming in. off to a seasonably school start and we will be in and out of the sunshine and on the whole, we will have enough to cast a shadow and use the sunglasses from time to time. seasonably chilly again and no rain and no snow. the drive for the saturday night into sunday. getting out the door tomorrow milder than this morning. overnight lows back into the mid 30s. that's about five degrees warmer than average. for tomorrow a little bit more sunshine early on in the day and late afternoon into the evening. clouds will start to come back in and by the time we get to monday morning, mostly cloud we a chance of showers out to the west and off and on shower chances as we go through the rest of the day on monday. better chances as you get into
