below in some areas. >> here's a live look what it looks like outside our tv station in northwest washington right now. you can see the flag flapping in that cold breeze. this is a big chill under way out there. the arctic air is causing schools to delay start times. we'll get to that in a minute but first, the feel-like temperatures are in the single digits right now. and that's why we're starting here in the news 4 weather center. doug's here to tell us what it's going to be like as we go through the night and when we get up in the morning. >> you mentioned that big drop. we were at around 41 42 degrees this afternoon. now we're around 1 or 2 degrees with that wind chill. a big-time temperature drop. we have the wind chill advisory. you notice howard county montgomery county parts of loudoun county and everybody off to the west including our friends down to the northern neck with wind chills potentially near that negative 10 number early tomorrow morning. now, right now we're still seeing those winds gusting upwards of 30 to 40 miles per hour. we'll continue to see those.

look at the current wind chill. 7 in d.c. 1 in gaithersburg 4 below in hagerstown and near zero towards winchester. they're only going to go down as we move on through the night tonight. look at this wind advisory in effect for loudoun county prince william county and everybody to the east including most of the state of maryland also back to the shenandoah valley. look at the temperatures. not the wind chill. the temperatures. 6 in pittsburgh 14 in hagerstown. that's the cold air continuing to spill down across our region. i'll let you know when the next batch of cold air comes in because, guys this is nothing. >> wow. thanks doug. one school has already decided to open late tomorrow because of the cold weather. anne arundel county schools will be delayed two hours tomorrow. we've also learned that the bethesda central farm market has decided not to open on sunday because of the extreme cold expected on that day. the city d.c. is activating

its cold weather emergency plan tonight. we'll be updating the nbcwashington app throughout the evening with the latest forecasts, closings and delays. there's breaking news out of california tonight. 22 marines have been hospitalized after being exposed to fire-retardant gas during a training exercise. it happened at the marine corps air ground center at twentynine palms outside of los angeles. the fire extinguisher system went off accidentally in an assault vehicle. prosecutors say 152 women were found on a hidden video taken by a local rabbi who has been accused of voyeurism. our shomari stone talk to one of the original alleged victims about these new allegations. shomari? >> reporter: jim, tonight we've learned that rabbi barry freundle allegedly recorded more

bathing here in the mitzvah. that's a sacred bath. more charges could be brought against him. let's show you these numbers. sources tell news 4 police have identified 152 women who were secreted recorded with a camera here dating back as far as 2009. 88 women were recorded in the past three years. 64 more than three years ago. police arrested the prominent rabbi last october. he's charged with voyeurism, that's a misdemeanor, for allegedly taping six nude women. last night his alleged victims discussed a possible pleawith prosecutors. tonight sources tell us prosecutors will not settle for probation. they want rabbi freundel to do jail time. we'll hear from a woman who was allegedly recorded by the rabbi. she was at last night's meeting with prosecutors. >> i'm just -- i'm very shocked. i'm shocked, and it's just an

amazing amount of victims. >> reporter: now, rabbi freundel has pleaded not guilty. his next court appearance is next thursday. live in georgetown i'm shomari stone, news 4. new at 11:00, firefighters in warrenton, virginia are looking for the cause of this fire that started around 7:00 tonight at an auction and storage facility for antiques. we found twitter users posting pictures and videos of the fire. we're told the firefighters were able to quickly get the flames under control but freezing temperatures caused water to freeze on the road. nobody was injured. some students in prince george's county will be going to different schools next year. tonight the school board voted to close thomas claggett elementary school and to turn kenmoor elementary into an early childhood center just two of against closing the schools. the closing and transitions will begin at the end of this school year.

as part of that same vote the board also approved moving some sixth grade classes from elementary schools to middle schools. studies have shown sixth graders perform better when in a middle school setting. the shift affects only about 200 students right now but eventually the board wants to move every middle school in the county to a sixth through eighth grade model. a woman accused of murdering a virginia tech student has entered what's called an alford plea. jessica ewing admits they have enough evidence to convict her and the case will go straight to sentencing. she was charged with strangling a woman to death last year. tresta was from virginia. ewing is facing 25 years to life in prison. one of the suspects in a brazen robbery in chantilly is in custody tonight. he's one of two men who tried to

rob an armored car. there was a shoot-out and one of the suspects was hit four times. the men got away but police caught up to them several miles away. the suspect who was shot is in critical condition. police are asking for help in identifying what they call a person of interest in the murder of a d.c. lawyer in a hotel in thomas circle. david messerschmidt was found stabbed to death at the donovan hotel on tuesday. the best clue they have so far is surveillance video of a person wandering around the hotel on monday night. sources tell news 4 police are looking into the possibility that messerschmitt was set up. tonight we take a look at the mental condition of a fairfax inmate who died in police custody. the case is now under review. some believe natasha mckenna should not have been in jail. >> 37-year-old natasha mckenny of alexandria had suffered from

mental illness for many years but managed with the support of her family. she became arrested after she became disruptive when she tried to return a rental car. she ran when police arrived. when they caught up with her at a nearby home depot, they say she fought and punched the officers. they decided to send her to a psychiatric hospital unit in alexandria. mckenna was served with a felony warrant, taken to the fairfax county adult detention center where she remained until a team of deputies performed what they call a cell extraction when she refused to come out of her isolation cell. that's when the taser was used multiple times and mckenna stopped breathing. >> i can't speak to the specifics of the case in this individual. >> reporter: peter early is an author and advocate for the mentally ill. >> i think based on the family pictures bruising on the arm, two black eyes a missing finger i mean this was a

he urged the veterans there to help him lobby for it. new at 11:00, the fbi says it's opening an inquiry into the killings of three university of north carolina students. dozens gathered in dupont circle tonight to show solidarity with the unc community and to call for a hate crime investigation. police say the students all muslim were killed in an argument over a parking spot but friends are concerned that religion could be a motive. next at 11:00, the bait used by police to arrest a couple of car thieves. today is his birthday and rg-3 says he has a real gift to announce. >> i'm getting better every day. >> and it was fate that helped save a local pastor on the brink of death.

two men are in jail tonight after investigators say they literally took the bait offered by a local police department. chris lawrence is live at the newsdesk with more. >> it involves cell phones but it started with a big problem in chevy chase village, people breaking into cars at night. so the police put a bait car on the street. looks like any other except it's outfitted with hidden cameras and microphones to start recording when someone tampers with the car. this morning a man took the bait and video you're seeing was streamed live to the police department where a dispatcher got a clean, close-up look at the thief. village police officers headed to the scene along with montgomery county's k-9 units. the suspects were hiding in a yard but ran off in different

directions. officers did have to chase them down but they got them. they were easy to identify because of a still image to the bait car. >> send that image to the officers' smartphones, so as they're looking for someone that has run away when somebody says this wasn't me they go how about this? maybe this is you. >> when they found these two men they also found items from about four other cars that they believe had been broken into in the area. in the newsroom i'm chris lawrence. >> tonight can faith heal? that's what some areter a pastor made a miraculous recovery. >> i try not to go back there a lot simply because i thought i was asleep for a night. and here it was three to four weeks later. >> when michael freeman, pastor of spirit of faith christian center awoke in his hospital

bed, he says he had no idea he almost died. >> and you kind of wake up and they tell you you're in a different month. >> reporter: but what he thought was a common cold turned out to be an aggressive pneumonia that was attacking his lungs. doctors said there was nothing more they could do for him, but his wife delorous didn't give up. >> i was never frightened. i was never worried. i was never concerned. >> reporter: at the suggestion of a family member they reached out to medstar washington hospital center wre this have a program called ecmo short for extracorp reeal membrane oxygenation. it's a machine that's typically used for patients whose hearts won't pump. but some hospitals use it for patients like pastor freeman whose lungs aren't working. this cardiac surgeon runs the program. >> in a situation like this what the pump does is replaces the function of the lungs. >> reporter: ecmo works by withdrawing the patient's blood,

pumping oxygen into it then returning it to the body. in pastor freeman's case it can give the lungs time to heal. >> once we decide to institute something like ecmo we know the risk of that patient dying is around 50%. >> i didn't cry, i didn't feel like crying didn't want to cry. i said i don't have time to cry. i'm in a fight. i'm going to fight for life. >> reporter: pastor freeman stayed on the ecmo machine for three weeks and just when doctors were beginning to give up his lunns started to heal. he was going to live. dr. molina says one remarkable thing about this case. even though the pastor was close to death, his family never doubted his survival. >> i personally truly believe that they must have an impact on him in the final outcome. >> he is where he is today because of the combination of care that was my faith and with the doctors. >> reporter: this is pastor freeman the day he came back to

his church surrounded by a cheering congregation overcome with emotion. though his lungs are still healing, he says this experience has made him feel more alive than ever. >> i'm getting better every day. that's my confession. any day above ground is a good day, and i feel great to be alive. >> they were glad to see him back. dr. molina tells us that most hospitals in this region don't have an ecmo program. that's because it's very complicated and requires a lot of training and experience to use. >> good for him. >> so how low are we now doug? >> right now we're between zero and minus five. that's the wind chill. the temperatures are in the single digits and teens. they're moving that way now. tomorrow morning, it is going to be one cold day. the coldest day we've seen so far this winter. take a look outside. you can see we have a few

clouds. colder skies and that means colder air moving in. look at the temperature in d.c. but that wind out of the northwest at 25 miles per hour. that sustained winds, winds gusting over 30 miles per hour right now. that wind advisory for winds gusting to 40 and 50 miles per hour through 1:00 a.m. here are the temperatures 16 in gaithersburg 19 in manassas 16 in martinsburg, but the wind the way it feels outside, much much colder. zero in gaithersingberg, 1 in martinsberg. the warmest spot feels like 14 in fredericksburg. all because of that front. that came through earlier today and brought us all some snow shower activity. some areas that saw a little coating or dusting of snow king george county. parts of southern maryland reporting a little bit of a dusting today. the wind chill advisory is in effect until 10:00 a.m. wind chills get below 5 blow or to 10 below and i think that could be the case especially back towards the west. even montgomery and howard

county down around the northern neck westmoreland county heads up. if you look back here it's really going to be cold. but even if you're not in that advisory it's still in the cold side. look at tomorrow morning 7:00 a.m. 1 below in d.c. 6 below in winchester some extreme cold for this time of year. we're going to continue to see extreme cold any time of the year. by noon we're up around 10. that's it. tomorrow's definitely a day to eat that lunch indoors. take the lunch with you as you head off to work. impact on the forecast will be in the moderate to high side because of the brutal cold. put on all those layers. tomorrow you're going to need them. future weather shows the cold air on friday. we'll still have a little bit of wind on saturday though temperatures do moderate a little bit. that's ahead of our next storm system that by saturday at 3:00 is just bringing up the cloud happens around 8:00. this is valentine's day. we will be seeing snow during

the evening hours as that next front passes by. that one has even colder air. a high of 27 on friday 21 on sunday. and you want to see the wind chills on sunday? no you probably don't. 8:00 a.m. 15 below to 5 below. so about ten degrees colder than we'll be tonight. even during the noon hours we could be below zero in some areas. we could easily see winds over 50 miles per hour on sunday. then presidents day with a high of 25. that's our next possible storm system. but i've been watching the latest models here. right now eng that we're going to be coming in with temperatures that are -- or rather snowfall that may be just off to our south and just off to the east. >> we get all the cold we just can't catch any snow. >> that's exactly right. >> some sad news tonight. this just in. >> yes, there's been lots of talk and articles written about john wall this past week. the post interviewed some sports commentators today and one said quote, i can't think of a star who gets as much criticism as him for no obvious reason. hate him or love him, john wall is going to be in the all-star game representing the wizard. last year john wall in his first all-star game. at the dunk contest bringing home the first slam dunk title in franchise history. that's awesome. then in the actual game wall had 12 points in 15 minutes. this is what he told me about what he remembered most about that day. >> well all the guys telling me when i first got in the game don't shoot a jump shot. you might get an air ball. they say like everybody is nervous, you got the jitters. that's how it went. >> will you have the same jitters now that you'll be starting. >> i think so probably worse because you're starting the game. last time i was on the bench anxious to hear my name called.
