we will get a hint of a respite. temperatures above freezing while we have a snow chance but the bottom falls out and brutal weather for sunday into monday. winter weather advisories across parts of pennsylvania and even down into parts of maryland for just an occasional chance of snow showers. it could be enough to whiten the ground recently. well below freezing with wind chills currently in the teens. it's a cold start and we will have plenty of clouds and sun first thing this morning. and passing rain and snow during the afternoon. temperatures in the upper 30s to near 40. not expecting a lot of this

they found the victim wounded in the middle of the street. first responders rushed the man to the hospital and he is expected to be okay. they are working to figure out a motive for the shooting. >> new details on a fire that tore through a home in prince georges county. firefighters were called to clayton lane and clinton around 8:45 last night and no one was hurt. >> we want to bring you breaking news out of mexico. a freight train and passenger bus collided in the northern part of the country. at least 16 people have been killed and a dozen hurt. officials say the bus ignored a stoplight at the rail way crossing. the bus was split in half and passengers were trapped under the bus following the crash. >> you can help police if you rec these these men. they may be connected to an armed robbery and assaults on metro.

this happened after 10:00 at the metro station. they don't have warrants for the men, they want to talk to them. if you have information, call metro transit police. metro faced tough questions from congress during a hearing of the transit system's smoke manager. >> lawmakers said miscommunication and malfunction and development were no excuse for passengers being trapped for 30 minutes. that's how long it took to get to them. jonathan rogers was on the train and and gave cpr to a virginia woman who later died. >> in a photo i believe to be the last i took before giving cpr to miss glover -- sorry. other passengers are laying on the ground at 3:39 p.m. >> the hearing is the latest in a string of ongoing federal and

all is back to normal at a dallas airport after a shooting. two sheriff's deputies were escorting an inmate through the airport and he requested to use the bathroom. when his handcuffs were taken off, the inmate changed and he shot the guy, but he was still able to make a run for it. they caught up to the suspect in the security area and the inmate and the deputy who used his gun were taken to the hospital. canadian police stopped a deadly shooting rampage in their tracks. two suspects stopped a suspect in the mall for valentine's day.

it was set to start at a mall in halifax, nova scotia. it's a 23-year-old american woman from illinois. he was arrested at the airport and reportedly confessed. her 19-year-old accomplice killed himself as officers surrounded his home. the two were obsessed with death and mass killings. >> the valentine's day gifts and packages may not be delivered on time. an outage is causing problems for the postal service. package handling and e-mail has been affected. the regular services are running without problems this morning. they are hoping the issue will be fixed boy later today. it has been a cold few days. >> i'm chuck bell. not much of a breeze out there yet, but old man winter is getting ready to let us have it in a big way. a complete check of what will be the col

the front half of the day today. dangerous winds, brutal wind chills and near record cold. they can gust over 60 miles per hour and when you combine the wind and the cold wind chill warnings for wind chills 15 to 25 degrees below zero. that's saturday night tonight through tomorrow. wind chills down to as much as 15 below and for tomorrow during the day, we could see winds gust upwards of 60. this is a high wind watch for everyone all the way to the chesapeake bay. crazy weather the next 36 hours. for now, all is relatively quiet. 26 degrees and temperatures mostly low to mid 20s. hour by hour through the day and into tomorrow. temperatures climbing into the upper 30s to near 40. here's the chance for rain and snow showers on the future weather forecast.

by 1:00 this afternoon, cloudy skies and chances of light rain and snow along i-81. 5:00 this afternoon, temperatures will be up near 40. it will be that mix of rain and snow in the metro. snow could come down hard enough to whiten the ground as much as an inch. not really on the roads. temperatures should be above freezing. by saturday night, going out to dinner and a movie with your other half snow showers coming to an end, but the wind really starts to increase. as we get into tomorrow we could see again winds gusting over 60 miles per hour. the feels like factor by 8:00 single digits and teens by bedtime below and by wake up time tomorrow morning, wind chills running 15 to as much as 25 below zero. take your pets indoors. even outdoor pets need extra

the calm before the real cold. >> 40 is going to feel mild by comparison. if we make it to 40 that might be the warmest day of the next in a row. viciously cold air is coming into tomorrow. a leading edge with a chance of snow showers. weather advisories into the mountains of west virginia and anne arundel and the city of baltimore under a winter weather advisory for the possibility of snow. maybe atting up to as much as an inch. chances of rain and snow showers and they could come down hard enough to whiten the ground. the most likelihood is between 3:00 and 8:00 today. temperatures in the low to mid-20 said and you will need your coat first thing this morning and you may want to have a hat and umbrella as the hit and miss snow showers come our

justice center to get your signatures to help stp police from using the tactic. the american civil liberties union call an end to the use of jump out squads. they show raphael briscoe running from an unmarked police car in 2011. they said briscoe had a gun and a shot was filed, killing briscoe. they cleared officers of any wrong-doing. it was a drive by. i'm very, very angry. i'm not going to stop until justice is had for my son. >> all of d.c. police cars should be clearly marked. unmarked cars and jump outs are used to address problems across the district. >> an inquest will be held into the shooting of an unarmed man in washington state. a farm worker is accused of throwing rocks and cars at

officers and it was all caught on camera. they used a tazer to stop the man and when that didn't work police ran after him and opened fire. the shooting has drawn criticism. the family of the man filed a lawsuit against the city of pacifico. >> if you have anthem health insurance, you can take advantage of health protection following a hack. they hired an outside company for assistance and credit monitoring. they hacked social security 234b security numbers and they are not sure how many that are part of the 80 million customers were affected by the hack. we are following a developing story this out of the ukraine despite a ceasefire deal. there is still fighting between ukrainian troops and pro russian rebels. they are trying to capture a hub

before a truce that is expected to begin tomorrow. 25 people have been killed across the region and leaders from russia ukraine, germany and france all negotiated that peace plan. >> new this morning, a new case of measles in illinois. the department of health said 13 cases have been confirmed in the state. all of the cases are in cook county which includes chicago and surrounding areas. >> flu season has reached the peak. new cases of the flu appear to be dropping. the flu is still considered widespread in 32 states across the nation. the centers for disease control mark virginia and maryland still have it as widespread but no longer in the district. there fewer and less intense case in the last couple of weeks in most parts of the country. the flu reached highest levels in january and stayed there for several weeks. >> today pope francis made 20 new cardinals in a ceremony
