this is a storm team 4 weather alert. dangerously cold temperatures and very strong winds, creating a mess for folks throughout our area. and amelia says some areas will have record low temperatures against tonight. >> chris, another night with very cold temperatures -- when you factor in the winds, not as bad as last night, but still brutal. the area is under a windchill advisory. if you're in the lighter blue you're also under this advisories. windchills in these areas could be as low as five to ten degrees below zero. the more serious windchill warning is for the counties in gray including parts of loudoun and month goply counties, that

runs until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. windchills in the single digits or below zero with winds gusting to near 30 miles an hour. tonight 8:00 p.m. feeling about 5 to 15 degrees below zero. 3:00 a.m. it's brutal feeling about 12 degrees below zero in washington. tomorrow morning it's dangerously cold across the area slow improvements by tomorrow afternoon, but then chris, tomorrow night on into tuesday, snow accumulating snow moves through the area. with that a windstorm watch for everybody until noon on tuesday. i'll z amounts in just over ten minutes. boy oh boyce, thanks a million. last night ace bone-chilling windchill did major damage, including blowing a tree right through a family's roof. we have a look at the mess. >> actually i was standing right here my husband was standing right there. we just heard crashing,

everything coming through the roof. it was horrible. >> glory leonardo says her husband saved her life pushing her out of the way when a tree smashed into their bedroom. >> it's just something special. it could have been lot worse, but luckily we're fine we're okay. >> reporter: just minuted before orlando was lying on the bed. he could have been impaled if he hadn't gotten up to take her out for a meal. >> sheetrock, fiberglass all that stuff onto us. >> the tree fell on the home in hyattsville about 9:00 saturday night. that's when winds were whipping throughout the region. you can see where the wind crash onto the house. when you open their back door it's a totally new view now. they can't even get our their house this way anymore. orlando has a cut on his leg when the branch hit him.

the kids were shaken up but they were not hurt. >> it's a blessing nobody got hurt. really a true blessing. >> reporter: the couple never thought about the tree falling onto their house. they're grateful but still worried. >> don't live near trees. [ laughter ] >> reporter: that's your advice? >> yeah stay away from trees. those fierce winds are causing problems across our area. in arlington winds blew over a large tree blocking the intersection of old dominion and rock spring road. crews are repairing power lines in arlington as well including this one near 7th and nor highland. dominion says about 700 customers don't have power in northern virginia but the electricity should be back on later tonight. strong winds caused part of this abandoned building to collapse in southeast washington. the building was already in the process of being demolished before mother nature came. no one was hurt in that case. our team coverage continues

later in the newscast. it's not just the wind causing trouble. icy roads ceded hazardous conditions. there were 300 emergency calls in montgomery county in one 12-hour period. derrick ward will take a closer look. an elderly woman and her son were found dead outside their home before being outside in the cold. viola cox and her son douglas died. investigators say viola had a medical emergency. when her son tried to help, he had his own medical emergency. there were no signs of trauma. they do not suspect foul play. the medical examiner will determine the cause of death. isis releases a new video that allegedly shows militants beheading 21 christian hostages. this is a still image. the video appears to have been filmed on the coast of the mediterranean sea. the men are coptic christians

from egypt. the video threatens christians. now, to the developing situation in denmark, where police have beefed up secured after two deadly shootings. today police shot and killed a man they say killed a danish filmmaker and security guard and wounded five police officers. say say he was 22 years old, a native of denmark and involved in gang activity. tonight we're hearing from a whom who witnessed one of those attacks. >> then wet more shots and we realized this is an attack and being evacuated. everyone was trying to protect themselves and others. >> a cartoonist who had portrayed the prophet muhammad as a dog may have been the intended target but he wasn't hurt. commercial drones could soon be a part of everyday's life after the announcements. faa proposed rules that would

allow companies for using doane. drones would be banned from delivering goods, and could take three years to be final. right now it's illegal to fly drones in d.c. even for fun. one of the top trending stories on our website. a mother of four has died after someone shot her, in a case of road rage. doctors in las vegas took tammy myers off life support last night. she was shot in the head thursday right in front of her house. she was driving home when she nearly got into an accident with another driver. they argue he followed her home and shot her in the head. now her grieving husband is trying to come to grips with what happened. >> a mother of four who had to lose her life because she was teaching her daughter how to drive. what is it coming to here in vegas? >> police are still looking for the three people in that other car. time is running out to sign up for affordable health care. the penalty that you could face if you don't.

i've got to ask, have you ever gotten that excited over one snowstorm. >> when you get thundersnow, you get such impressive rates, lie 3 to 4 inches an hour. as a meteorologist who loves snow i can see why he's so excited about it. >> what's coming our way tonight? >> just tonight cold record cold? spots will be an issue, but then chris, it's tomorrow night on into tuesday morning, where a storm system is going to be moving through the area bringing us some snow. this snow monday night into tuesday morning, looking to have at least a moderate, even potentially high impact on the area. more on that in a minute. here are the headlines, dealing with dangerously cold temperatures until about 10:00 a.m. if you have plans tomorrow avoid being outdoors during the morning hours. it's cold but it's not at that dangerous threshold. again, tracking snow monday evening into tuesday morning. this was not in the forecast last night, but the models now

coming into more agreement on the timing. then after that for the upcoming week our temperatures remain cold. because of the dangerous chilled tomorrow morning and the snow in the forecast tomorrow evening, the weather is going to have a moderate to high impact on your presidents' day. this is how we start off tomorrow. dulles dwi will likely said record low temperatures. everybody is in the single digits. and when you factor in the winds, they're not howling, but it's certainly breezy outside. pretty much everybody will feel like they're below zero. 9:00 a.m. slow improvements but still feels like we're below zero. by 10:00 a.m.,ing this when the windchill warnings expire. by 11:00 a.m., plen of clouds. 16 degrees at 11:00 a.m. 3:00 feeling like temperatures in the teens, that's when we hit our high of only 25 degrees. the snow moves in tomorrow evening, the timing here on 5:00 p.m. starting to push into areas

lie loray. we could see some heavy snow at times late monday into early tuesday morning. you have that early morning commute to think of, prepare for some delays on tuesday. by 10:00 a.m. the system comes to an end. here's my initial snowfall forecast. this is not set in stone. this will be a fluid event. the numbers can and likely will change. 2 to 4 inches the d.c. metro areas, 4 to 6 inches parts of aspirin william counties is about 6 to 8 inches is possible the metro area is looking about 4 to 6 inches. the storm is likely but the track can change. the snow totals can go up or down but some delays are looking likely on tuesday, with a high of 31 maybe some light snow around on wednesday, a high of 29 thursday and friday highs only in the mid 20s. >> thanks amelia.

it's all about how cold it would be. gray is the windchill warning, blue is the windchill advisory. after tomorrow morning, it's not so cold but then by tomorrow night into tuesday morning, guys we're tracking snow moving through the area this could be some of the most snow we have seen through the season. kind of a big gradient. 4 to 6 in the metro area over 6 inches potentially in the southern maryland. that could pose trouble for folks going back to work on tuesday. >> updates
