could see temperatures fall below zero for the first time since 1871. an extreme plunge in temperatures all across the tennessee valley. they could also get about 3 inches of snow there. but there are more than 100 cities that face record lows today. in case you missed it a car, frozen car here in baltimore. this was quite the picture there. it was near a water main break and as other vehicles were drifing by, they kept slashing the water on to the car and then you have a big block of ice there. so today we're expecting across the east coast black ice, freezing temperature, power outages could result in this air travel delays, as well. as many as seven people have died from hypo they were i can't or car accidents connected to the freezing tthey were i can't or car accidents conre new information on the murder of a local attorney here in the district. several sex related items were found in the room where david messerschmitt was stabbed to death.

cable company employee to steal from senior citizens. he was sentenced to nine years. he targeted several seniors in northeast and northwest washington including the parents of d.c. mayor bowser. before he was caught he actually liked a facebook post about his crimes. 4:34. 13 degrees right now. the map accused of murdering hannah graham will face back to back trials starting this summer. first jesse matthew will stand trial in fairfax county for an unrelated sex assault. and then a jury trial is set to begin on june 29 for the graham case. matthew is accused of killing graham last september after meeting her just blocks away from uva campus. her remains were found five weeks later. today you have the chance to say how you should think d.c. should spend your tax money. mayor bowser is holding three special forums on the budget including today at 7:00 p.m.. you can head to wilson high school tonight to take part. the mayor says she wants to focus on spending on affordable

housing, job training and ending homelessness. if you can't make it tonight the other forums are in the nextfive days. maryland's former governor is considering a run for the white house. o'malley will also visited key primary estates of new hampshire and iowa next month. montgomery county schools are running out of space. that's according to the school board president who told maryland state senators there is no he said in sightd in sight to the growth. since 2007, they have had an influx of 28,000 additional students, so that means portable trailer classrooms. several districts are lobbying state law makers in millions for funding for new school construction. and this morning we'll get a look at next year's budget for are arlington public schools.

13 degrees outside our studios, but the windchill makes it feel like zero. we'll talk to tom in a minute about today's dangerous cold temperatures at 4:41 with your weather and traffic on the 1s. this just in prince william county schools on a two hour delay this morning, as well. so the reason doctor we're experiencing these issues is because of all the snow and ice. ford theater you museum will remain closed today. crews are still cleaning up after a leaking pipe left around an eventual of water on floors. a spokesperson says none of the museum's irreplaceable artifacts appears to be damaged.

leaders of the union to kick off new contract negotiations in washington. glover is the so that of two postal employees. it is the first time in more than four years that the postal union has negotiated a new contract. the union president says customer service improvements including longer hours, will be in his plan to save the agency. a d.c. man can now face 30 years if n. prison for killing a howard university student. ross david lagarde pled guilty to shooting the senior in 2013. lagarde said he and someone else decided to rob sikes who was coming back from a fourth of july fireworks display. when he tried to misstal whip sikes, he shot him and killed him. later today, they will address a deadly shooting of a homeless man who threw rocks at officers. the shooting has sparked protests from many in the ghun itity community who request the use of deadly force.

the chief of pol has previously said a tase are was used first and had no affect on the man. dustin diamond heads back to court today. he's charged with stabbing somebody in wisconsin. if you're in your 30s, you might remember him as screech on the 1990s tv show saved by the bell. he alledgedly pulled out a knife and stabbed someone after he and his fiance got into a fight with others on christmas day. he previously pleaded guilty to the charges. the u.s. is not at war with islam. that is the message from president obama as he outlines his strategy for tackling violent extremism. the president says muslims here in the u.s. and around the world need to fight the misconception that groups like isis speak for conti today in washington. civic leaders from 60 countries around the world are taking part in this summit. joseph clancy will permanently lead the secret service. clancy has been serving as acting director since october after julia pearson was forced out over a series of security

breaches. clancy had been with the service for nearly 30 years. one gop house leader said he's disappoint that had president obama chose an insider. an independent review of the secret service suggested the agency needed a culture change and outside leadership. new developments into the live desk overnight on a super bug out in california at the ucla medical center as many as two people may have died from this. seven others infected. and just under 200 patients exposed. this is a deadly drug resistant super bug, may be linked to contaminated medical instruments. patients may have been infected during endough skopic procedures between october and january, those patients getting home testin kits now. the fda saying it is working with the epa and the cdc to identify the causes of the super bug and the risk factor to all of those that were exposed.

that's the late fres theest from the live desk. take a look at this video as a deer is rescued from an icy lake. this rescue took place yesterday afternoon. the montgomery county swift water rescue team was called in and managed to bring the animal back to shore. rescuers say it had several broken bones. it did not did well exposed to the icy conditions. the deer did not survive. such dangerous conditions. we know there are people who want to attempt to try to go on the ice to ice skate or have fun and realize that it's just not worth the risk. >> won't hold you. never does p. hundreds of you you centssent us your snow pictures and one of you is wake up with a brand new pat collins snow stick. >> congratulations to a 15-year-old, her photo won this snow stick challenge. how about that? that's her pet bird sunshine. >> sweet. >> they live in fairfax county. you can see she brought sunshine

overnight tonight, all the way until 10:00 in the morning. includes all these counties in blue. all of virginia eastern west virginia all of maryland the metro area for windchills as cold as 20 below by this time tomorrow morning. by 8:00 a.m. windchills minus 5 to minus 10. it won't be quite as bad by 5:00 p.m. but then winds will still be whipping overnight as temperatures plummet. this time tomorrow morning, my necessary 10 to minus 20. temperatures right now are hovering around 10 degrees in the metro area. teens around the bay. and just near 10 in the shenandoah mountains, as well. we'll hover in the low teens between now and #:00. bright sunshine. and then the winds will be picking up gusting to around 30 miles an hour through much of the day. partly cloudy noontime, upper teens. may briefly get to low 20s around 1:00 or 2:0037 and then occasional flurries flying in the gusty winds as temperatures plumb met tonight. they will be all the way done to near record lows tomorrow morning. this was the snow squall as it

it is 4:57. it's been nearly within year as soon as we heard the #say josh. the hope was to give an experimetal drug to a sick virginia boy who was dying. doreen gensler caught up with josh and his mother. >> reporter: josh was diagnosed with cancer when he was just nine months old. he was treated, but it came back. twice. everilyy eventually all those years of chemotherapy took a toll and

josh needed a bone marrow transplant but that reeked havoc on his body. >> his heart failed kidneys failed his lungs were not working well. >> reporter: and that's when an aggressive virus took advantage of his weakened immune system. his mother amy, says their only hope was an antiviral drug called brincidofovir, but it's not approved yet which means a doctor can't pre-vibe it. so the family asked for expanded access or compassionate use to get the medication for josh. the drug's manufacturer said no. >> where there is a will there is a way and we did not let go. so many people didn't let go with us. our family was a tremendous part of this. i think they ran the best pr campaign in the world. >> for tfami social media was the key to saving their young son's life. but as we learned in our exclusive interview, the journey
