murder in northeast washington. this happened on brentwood avenue not the far from the rhode island metro station. megan mcgrath just arrived on the scene and has more on the investigation. >> reporter: you can see the police officer still on the scene. there is police tip coreape core donning offer the area. the call came in around 1:00 this morning. the 911 call being report e officers found a man suffering from hullmultiple gunshot wounds. we have learned that he died as a result of those gunshot wounds. we're in the 2500 block of 14th street. not a lot of information in terms of what happened here what led to this deadly shooting or any suspect information. all we know at this point is that police are looking for two people and that they were scene leaving the scene in a four door black car.

anyone with information, you're asked to call police. reporting live in northeast, megan mcgrath, news 4. new this morning, first 4 traffic told us route 108 in lay tonsville is blocked off and this is why. take a look. a fire totally engulfed this home. find out what caused the fire and whether anyone was inside when it started. firefighters are still working to knock down the flames. we'll keep you updated on this story throughout the morning. today a d.c. police officer will stand trial for a second time on charges he tried to kill his wife. prosecutors say sample so that lawrence attacked his wife in their prince george's county in november of 2013. they say he hit her with a metal lamp post. investigators say that fight started when lawrence became frustrated while trying to hang a flat screen tv. lawrence is facing attempted murder and assault charges. a jury failed to reach a verdict in the first trial back in july. in just a few hours, the chief of prince george's county police will speak to a

they say it's a mechanical issue, but not sure what created the smoke. yesterday there was a smoke report somewhere between foggy bottom and roslyn. trains were delayed, passengers left standing on the platform. over the weekend, there were four incidents at metro stations one at l'enfant that involved a at the mechanical issue, and woodley park had to be evacuated. >> it makes me want to get a car sooner. but as long as they have an evacuation plan which i think they need to work on it because if so many people were put in the hospital the last time obviously something is not working. >> crews found no issues. metro says it does experience more mechanical issues when it gets extremely cold. fire atop a d.c. street car has prompted a reinspection of the entire fleet. the d.c. transportation dw says depa says the car started sparking but the fire burned out

quickly. the vehicle operator was not hurt. street cars still run simulated service only for now. it's 5:18. later this morning, another hearing will be held in a capital murder case against 26-year-old anthony roberts. he is charged with the murder of william bennett in 2009 in lansdowne. cynthia bennett was also attacked. she survived. roberts was indict order 11 counts. the weather causing problems underground in manholes. mark police told us they shut down a few blocks by the national mall while man hole covers were launching dangerously into the air. they would not confirm whether any covers exploded, but said as many as 15 were smoking. we're told this is a direct result of the weather because salt and ice leak into the underground equipment as the snow melts. today at the white house it could be a tense meeting between president obama and one republican governor.

roads? >> reporter: so far so good. we are on 355 south here in montgomery village. and this guy working the snow plow. a lot of snow banks along the immediate side of the road and this guy has the blade down trying to scoop all these piles. some almost 3 feet high in places. and they do occupy about the right half of the right hand raffle lane here along 355 southbound. and this story is repeated across many roads here this right hand lane is shut down by about 20% or 30% coming in from the curb. so if you're out driving around this morning, haven't seen a lot of icy patches on the roads. these good news. but there is a whole lot of this will cleaning up still to be done along the edges of the major arteries here. and if you have an icy street in your neighborhood or on your drive around town yet, let me though. we'll put your slushy road on tv. and tom will be talking about

more time in the deep freeze coming up. following a developing story from northeast georgia town of clarksville. sheriff and deputy within shot, they say they were ambushed when responding to a domestic violence call. they found a woman dead inside the garage and went into the home and were caught off guard, two other men were also found dead as a result of the incident but the sheriff and deputy should be okay. it's 5:47. today is one of your last chances to speak up about the future of rockville pike. there is a meeting at 7:00 tonight at the rockville city hall. leaders of the rockville pike plan will talk about making room for new parks and retail space while preserves neighborhoods and viable road and rail service. another meeting wednesday followed by the final one a week from today. tonight you can also weigh this on a new machinery county police station in bethesda. a public meeting set for 7:00 p.m. on edge more lane.

breaking news 95 in virginia northbound just after lorton road we have a crash and earlier car fire that has slowed things down so badly. almost a 7 1/2 mile backup as you're headed north past lorton road this morning. we have been tweeting about it and pushing it out on the nbc washington app. right now chopper 4 just got over this scene in laytonsville. 124 at brink road. an overturned vehicle. it looks like we have a tow and fire truck on the scene. but again, overturned vehicle there. that will be there for quite some time. wir look, inner loop and outer loop move along pretty nicely. our biggest issue this morning 95 for sure.
