it's having on the commute. we've already seen a number of problems on the roads. we're helping you make to work on time with conditions we're seeing in the storm team 4 x 4. breaking news 95 in virginia northbound just after lorton road we have a crash and earlier car fire that has slowed things down so badly. almost a 7 1/2 mile backup as you're headed north past lorton road this morning. we have been tweeting about it and pushing it out on the nbc washington app. right now chopper 4 just got over this scene in laytonsville. 124 at brink road. an overturned vehicle. it looks like we have a tow and fire truck on the scene. but again, overturned vehicle there. that will be there for quite some time. wir look, inner loop and outer loop move along pretty nicely. our biggest issue this morning 95 for sure. 66 a little slow through

at a d.c. apartment complex. this happened on 14th street they're brentwood avenue northeast. not far from the rhode island metro station. megan mcgrath live with more on who police are looking for in connection with this murder. >> reporter: they're actually looking for two suspects in all of this. but no word of any arrests at this point. if you take a look behind me here you can see that we have two police officers here on the scene. they're just watching over the crime scene making sure that no one crosses that police tape. we're expecting to see investigators return here once the sun comes up to take another look a final look for some of the physical evidenced here as they try to figure out who is responsible for this deadly shooting. it was a little after 1:00 911 call came in, report of a the should go here on the 25th block of 14th street. when police arrived on the scene, that's when the multiple gunshot wounds. initially he was said to be in critical condition.

we later learned that he has died of those gunshot wounds. the lookout is not very detailed. just two m leaving the scene, getting into a dark four door car. anyone with information you're asked to call police. megan mcgrath, news 4. today the second trial of a d.c. officer accused of trying to kill his wife is expected to get and you said way. prosecutors say sampson lawrence attacked his wife inside the.and you said way. prosecut. the fight started when lawrence became frustrated while trying to than a flat screen tv. he's facing attempted murder and assault charges. a jury failed to reach a verdict in the first trial back in july. new this morning, this is video you'll want to see a fire ripped through this home in montgomery county this morning. we're still working to find o what caused the fire and whether anyone was inside the home when it started.

this home is on route 108 in laytonsville and part of that road is still blocked off while firefighters wrap up this fire. some new problems from metro this morning after smoke incidents at several stations. metro says the problem is a heck cal issue, but it's not sure what exactly created the smoke. there was smoke report somewhere between foggy bottom and roslyn yesterday. firefighters responded to both stations but didn't find anything. over the weekend, there were four incidents at metro stations one at l'enfant plaza with a he heck cal mechanical issue and woodley park had to be evacuated. >> it mackis mekes me want to get a car sooner. if so many people put in the hospital last time obviously something is not work. >> officials checked all stations and found no issues. metro says it does experience more mechanical be problems when it gets extremely cold. we're track breaking news on

that's where police are in a standoff with a suspect who is on the roof of a gun shop. the s.w.a.t. team is on scene. you can see it's very dark and that's a challenge for police officers. they say the darkness is not helping them to keep an eye on the guy that is on top of the roof there. they say he initially proper into the gun shop then climatebed up to the roof. police are confident that he is still up there. they're not sure though, if he has a gun. but because he was burglarizing a gunshot, they believe it's very likely that he is armed right now. that's why they have people living in the area they have ordered them all to stay in their homes until the situation is resolved. but it looks like there could be some time before happens. police trying to b in some lights. it's now 6:17. in just a few hours, a hearing will be under way in a case of a

deadly attack in loudoun county. this was from 2009. 26-year-old anthony roberts was indicted earlier this month charges stem from the brutal attack of william and cynthia bennett in lansdowne. william bennett was killed. roberts faces 11 counts including capital murder, rape and robbery. > three are dead and two police officers are covering after a shooting in clarksville, georgia. north of atlanta. police say a man ambushed the officers while they responded to a domestic violence call. they found the woman dead when they arrived. police have not said whether the officers or one of the men shot the others who died. death toll from a weekend ferry disaster in central bangladesh is climbing. at least 70 bodies have been recovered. up to 140 passengers were thought to be on the river ferry when it capsized after hitting a car go vessel yesterday. new this morning, park police say there is no longer an

turning to ice just a few scattered flurries north and west of us. temperatures are now just getting to near the freezing mark. northern montgomery county, gaithersburg but elsewhere, mid-30s fairfax, prince william, prince george's county right in e district, in the mid and upper 30s. this is parking lot here at nbc 4, all wet. i took this picture a few hours ago. that becoming icy. anything that is wet now likely becoming icy pieby 8:00 and we'll stay below freezing all day. afternoon commute, down to the mid-20s. overnight tonight and through tomorrow we'll stay below freezing all day on tuesday with highs only reaching around 30 degrees. and then on wednesday, finally getting above freezing briefly, but then another surge of arctic air pushes in on thursday bringing us a chance of some flurries as it does push in we'll have temperatures staying in the 20s all day long on

thursday. won't get above freezing on friday. only up to around 30. and staying below freezing saturday as well. but we'll have sunshine. finally back above freezing on sunday with highs around 40. a look at hometown temperatures coming up at 6:31. breaking news still have the big backup 95 north in virginia, we're now approaching an 8 heil back mile backup. an earlier crash and car fire causing a lot of problems. if you can take route 1, you'll want save yourself the headache. right now chopper 4 over this problem laytonsville this is a house fire 108 at dorsi road. that area shut down. you'll want to stay away from this. 124 at brink, this is a crash.

problems on the roads as temperatures begin to fall. we're already seeing major backups. and melissat has breaking news on 95. >> 95 a north approaching lorton road about a 7 mile backup. so you'll have to watch out for that perhaps take route 1. 270 also looking slow as you're approaching germantown. southbound lanes. northbound lanes looking fine. wider look pretty typical. slowdown top of the beltway and 395 inbound, as well. a problem still in takoma park philadelphia avenue near piney branch road, accident there has it shut down. alternate is blair road. thinking about sending chopper over that way to get eyes on that one for you. 95 no major issues. bw parkway a little slow over 197. i'm back in ten minutes with

travel times. we're above freezing and so what is wet will stay wet for about another couple of hours. then getting below freezing later this morning. a few flufrryes win chess terks hagerstown those staying north of the metro area. montgomery county, a little above freezing there. by 10:00, to the low 20s. staying in the 20s rest of the afternoon. down to just near 20 by 5:00 p.m.. lanham now at 35. by 10:00, it will be gown to around 25. so temperatures dropping ten degrees. n holding in the low 20s by later in the afternoon. prince william, woodbridge 37. by 10:00, there too also dropping around 10 degrees down to the upper 20s. and holding steady low to mid-20s during the rest of the afternoon. next weather and traffic on the 1s a look at the temperature drop over the next 24 hours around the region.

caution and vigilance. this threat comes as lawmakers return to capitol hill to debate funding for the homeland security department. if congress can't make a deal by run out of money. tracie potts joining us live from capitol hill. the question what is the holdup here? >> reporter: the holdup is simply immigration. there are a number of republicans, including some key republicans who do not want to give this this money to homeland security unless president o agrees to roll back his immigration orders. those orders would allow as many as 5 million emgrants to stay in country legally for a while. it would basically put them on the back burner forring deported. so that has been the holdup immigration, for homeland security money. but now that a federal court has ruled on immigration in favor of where republicans want to go it looks like they may delink those two issues and work toward getting spgomething done by friday. >> so if we don't get something what's the possible impact? >> reporter: if they don't get

perhaps take route 1 instead. takoma park chopper 4 over this crash. philadelphia area near piney branch. alter senate blair road because of the closure. you can see how slow we are 95 north, about 48 minutes. 66 not being look bad. and in maryland not looking bad either. ch fairfax. how are the roads there? >> reporter: honestly they're in great shape. we just passed george mason university. we're on 123 going southbound. sides of the road in better shape here than we were seeing in montgomery county. even side streets are actually in very good shape now. that is slept news. there are still slushy corners to be dealt with so you'll need to use extra caution and anything that looks wet on local sidewalks and parking lots still likely to be very icy.

>> reporter: well, within the last half hour a couple more investigators arrived here on the scene. and they're trying to piece together who is responsible for this deadly shooting. and they are apparently looking for two potential suspects here if you take a look behind me. you can see some activity around that first floor apartment door there, crime scene tape still up. this call came out around 1:00 this morning, a 911 call report of a shoogt. when police arrived, that's when they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. at first he was said to be in critical condition, then a little while laters we learned he actually died. not a lot of information about the people they're looking for, but here's what we can tell you. two men were seen leaving the scene, they left in a black four door car. as for the victim they have not released that person's name. what we can tell you is that it is an adult man. we are still waiting for more

temperatures will work to their advantage, they say after standing out in the elements for so long, it is likely that this suspect will want to get in shelter soon so they are waiting it out to see if he comes down on his open.ep own. they have a perimeter in place and they have taken other precautions telling people who live in the neighborhood to stay in their home. and schools in the air have also been delayed about two hours now to see if the situation can be resolved here. but for now it is still ongoing. police have not been able to get a good vantage point of the suspect for quite some tile. they believe he's just hiding out there on the rooftop. they're waiting for shallome additional apparatus to come into see if they can isolate the suspect and perhaps try to negotiate with hill.m. but for now the area is blocked off and people in the area are told to stay indoors until they can get the situation resolved.
