i don't understand that. as we told you earlier in the show this is a perception thing. and here to explain more about how it all works is an american university professor, art shapira shapira. you specialize in perceptions in neuroscience. >> that's right. i study how the brain operates and how we get to see how it works that we can see the world around us. >> we all asked for, we're all white and gold on this but in your house you had debate and disagreement. >> i'm white and gold my wife is blue and black. >> is this a function of -- what is going on here? is it the brain? is it the eyes? how can some people see things differently? >> when you think about all the brain has to do in order for us to see the world and u.s. it's amazing this doesn't happen more often, right? because, you know, there's light out there in the world, there's our brain and somehow or other the brain has to translate all that stuff that's out there into the colors that we see, the objects in space. >> veronica was telling us her
4:45 pm
daughter sees black-and-blue. she sees gold and white. >> right. it led to this debate and her telling me i was wrong. >> right. >> so i'm into photography. does light have anything to do with it? >> and background. >> and background. whenever we see anything right, we have the light, we have the reflection we have the context in which the light is presented. brain has to juggle all that type of information to produce what we see. and it's amazing that on most things we can agree. >> it's interesting because some people last night when we had a raging debate in the newsroom were seeing white and gold then they kind of shifted over today to more blue and black. can we start to -- it changed. >> well right. so if you think that you have just one process, one thing in the brain that says here's a color, then that would be really puzzling. but if you realize that the brain's working hard to make sure colors look the same in different environments and it
4:46 pm
pulls a whole collection of different resources. >> so our brains can play tricks on us. >> always. every time we see a color to some extent it's playing a trick on us. >> your sweater is green, pat. >> we love your red dress, veronica. we've been showing some illusion stuff on your website because you do a lot with that. >> i make a lot of illusions. >> in our daily lives are from there other things we're sieg differently than our friends and colleagues? >> undoubtedly but not very often is it put up and say what do you see? >> what is this? explain this. >> here are two dots. we switched from that. these are illusions from my website. one of the things i play with is changes in luminents so, lights changing together from light to dark and then putting them in different context and the perception is entirely different depending on what's surrounding the colors. >> is this in any way sort of a left brain/right brain thing too? >> probably not. >> probably not. okay. >> people like to reach for left
4:47 pm
brain brain/right brain, and my guess is that there's processes all over the brain, some on left some on right some within just a visual part of the brain which people have slightly different balances for. >> all right. you know all about the science of the color. do you like the dress? i'm not sure i'd wear it to a wedding but -- i certainly wouldn't. >> thanks so much. >> thank you very much for having me. thanks. >> fascinating. we could talk with you for an hour about this. good to see you. now, no disagreement on this -- lots of blue skies today. everybody saw blue v.j. >> lots of blue skies. on the radar we might see pockets of pink showing up on sunday which is indication we could have some freezing rain around the area. that's something we'll be watching very closely as we get into the weekend. for your evening planner, we put it up right here for you. calm conditions at 7:00. we're at 34 degrees now so, i do think we are going to see the
