off the top at 6:00 a winter storm warning is in effect. snow came down in some areas, and this neighborhood got a fresh coat in virginia. later that gave way to freezing rain. sidewalks and roads iced up making a of folks having a hard time getting around. crews have treated most of the main roads, but you still need to be careful if you're heading out tonight. we have live team coverage. we are spread out across our area to take a closer look at how the weather is affecting

sidewalks, roads and bridges. and breaking news multiple sources tell news 4 that eugene jones has been fired. we're going to get to all of that in a second. but first we're starting here in the were center with amelia. you warmed us about this ice storm. when is it going to end? >> between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight, then it's all about the temperatures how much are we going to warm up and how much ice will melt overnight. a winter storm warning is in effect for areas in pink including the d.c. metro area, a winter advisory is here in the purple. both the warning and advisory run through 3:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. conditions inside the beltway tonight will slowly improve, but i think in the suburbs, if it's icy now, it's going to be icy tomorrow morning. here's a check of the radar. the pink is freezing rain and the green is rain.

further back to the west over the mountain some scattered showers with warmer temperatures there. this is 7:00 p.m. on future weather, stick tracking areas of freezing rain. by 10:00 pimm most of the area is dry. 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, we're dry but cloudy. like i said it's all about the temperatures. you can see just about everybody is at or below freezing, some of the exceptions being washington and fredericksburg. now, in just over ten minutes, i'm going to be walking you through the temperature forecast what you can expect at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning and when everybody will be above freezing and how that can impact your monday morning. we continue our live team coverage where we send thence out to molette green. >> reporter: the city deployed the snow team to treat the roads. they look pretty good just wet, but the sidewalks are a big difference here at king and fairfax streets. check it out here.

ice over all up through this stairway here at the square. very treacherous. in old town alexandria icy sidewalks didn't stop some from hitting their favorite restaurants and shops. some spots are just wet, others are deceptively slippery. some say these terrible conditions have brought out the best in people. >> the ice is not good. we actually saw two people up here. we had to call 911 on that the gentleman had fell and busted his head. >> it's great to see strangers helping each other and having compassion. and they stop and help each other, because there is need. the ice brings an opportunity for us to become better humans if we just walk carefully. >> reporter: some walkers ditched the sidewalk all together and took their chances in the street. people have had enough of winter. this march 1st storm.

>> surviving, hoping for spring. >> reporter: hoping for spring? >> absolutely. who wouldn't? >> reporter: now, we had a chance to talk to a gentleman who was working on that sidewalk across the street treating it with salt since 3:00 this afternoon. the city requires residents, property owners to do that within 24 hours after all of this stuff stops. we're going to check out the situation in prince george's county where they're monitoring the roads very closely. that's where we find darcy spencer live in largo. >> reporter: hey there, mollete you have to make sure you bring your umbrella or at least have a good hat. we've been getting hid with steady rain. sometimes there's a bit of freezing rain minks mixed in. this is 202, with the ramp to 495 north. our travels here, we didn't really run into problems. the video is of connecticut avenue in northwest washington heading toward the beltway.

then we hit 495 at connecticut avenue. again, the roadways are mostly wet, but it's the ramps you want to be careful of and the overpasses. they tend to freed up quicker. drivers told us they were pretty much fine driving today, as long as they take it easy. >> the traveling conditions when i first gout out here there was a lot of black ice, the black ice, people were slipping and sliding. it was kind of dangerous, but i was just taking it kind of slow. >> reporter: and that was very good advice, if you talk take it slow you should be okay. public works officials here in the county tell me right now the road temperatures are below freezing. they are not expected to get above the freezing mark so between 8:00 and 9:00 tomorrow morning, so keep that in mind there's a potential for freezing allow yourself some extra time if you're heading out for work or school in the morning. reporting live too long darny

spencer. stay ahead of the weather at nbcwashington.com, and download our storm team 4 app to access the latest road conditions cancellations, delays and closings. multiple sources tell news 4 that interim fire chief jones has been told he will not be kept on the permanent chief. mayor muriel bouzer has scheduled an announcement tomorrow morning. he took over at ellerby resigned. he's been credited with improving morale and relations, and increasing training. police have arrested someone for shooting a teenager. he is 19 years old and has been charged with assault with intent to kill. woods is accused of shooting the teenager friday near the charter school on naylor road. police told us the victim could be as young as 14 but no new

details tonight. a year ago a little girl went missing from a homeless shelter. she not been seen since. her family and friends held a special service at the baptist church. she disappeared last year after leaving with a janitor. he worked the shelter and was later found dead. worshippers gathered around her mother to pray for her and answers. >> we want closure, dear god. we want -- and we will take your will before god i ask in the name of jesus give us some answers. she would be 9 years old today, and mayor muriel bouzer announced the district will update that investigation on month. in fair fox county one business had a close call this asp. a truck caught fire in the maryfield garden center at lehigh way. unfortunately no one was hurt. it doesn't spread to other buildings nearby.

talk about working out for a good cause. hundreds of cyclists raised money for rare forms of cancer. this was at the scene in bethesda. all the money they raised will go for research programs at the memorial sloan-kettering center. >> rare cancers usually are underfunded. there's not a lot of research and development going on for rare cancers. so the need is vast. >> sure is. over the past 80 years, cycle for survival has raised well over $70 million. gas prices in the d.c. metro area are up eight cents from a week ago aaa says the average price is in and out 23938. silver lining gas in our area is still about three cents lower

montgomery county got a bit of everything today. snow rain and finally freezing rain. it was a confusing mix for drivers, because roads that just looked wet were actually icy. bottom line it caused a lot of problems out there. news4's derrick ward caught up with drivers who were just trying to stay safe. >> reporter: it's dangerous. this car went off the web lanes west of new hampshire avenue. the driver was injured but survived. mishaps were like that. >> as soon as i saw the forecast i was staying in anyways. i don't distrust the other drivers. >> she's on -- she had a purchase of new tires. >> i was slipping and sliding all over the place. these new tires really helped a lot. >> reporter: walking wasn't all

that easy either. nice recovery there. it is winter this kind of weather is to be expected. even winter weather loves can only take so much. >> i'm ready for spring. the snow is fun, but the ice not so much fun. >> while i grew up in northern maine, and even for me this is getting to be a bit much. >> we're all a little weary. >> this little fella is barking mad about it. his people are fed up too. >> we're done done with the winter. it's march, it should be over. >> until it's over we'll have to rise above it all. in montgomery county derrick ward news4. this storm should come to an en between 7:00 and 10 p.m. this evening, but it still will have an impact on monday morning commute. i think delays will be very likely especially those for you outside of the beltway. tomorrow the weather has a moderate impact. you're dealing with icy spots, early in the day, especially on

the less traveled roadways bridges, overpasses sidewalks. then as we get into the afternoon hours, at least we'll have sunshine it's breezy cold and we're dealing with a windchill temperature tomorrow especially around the midday and afternoon hours. here are the weather headlines, icy spots early. everybody is above freezing by 9:00 10:00 a.m. after that temperatures will feel like they're in the 20s and 30s throughout the day. our arch high is not in the low 50s. here are future temperatures right around midnight. notice everybody still at or below freezing. whatever ice is out there, it's still out there. overnight tonight, even early tomorrow morning. here we are at 6:00 a.m. notice those temperatures remaining near steady. i do think washington will be a touch warmer than 3, i think at 34, 35 degrees, that will make a big difference. that will help sidewalk conditions to improve. by 9:00 a.m. you can see everybody is above freezing.

washington at 39 at that point. road conditions tomorrow morning, on social media and records coming into our newsroom hearing a lot of the main roads are okay so i think that will continue to be the case tomorrow morning, just some isolated slick spots. of course you want to be careful with the on and offmuch ras, if the sidewalks have not been treated, they will still be icy tomorrow morning. so here's your hour bihour planner, washington is at 35 but the suburbs still an or below freezing. that means icy spots. the sun breaks out around 9:00, 10:00 a.m. you need the sunglasses 39 degrees, and when we factor in the winds, the high tomorrow of 44 degrees will feel more like 30 then we deal with refreeze tomorrow night into tuesday morning, a as the temperatures do drop below freezing and then another storm system. tuesday, a high temperature of 38 degrees, rain likely moves
