center. it is a single car accident and it happened while they were on duty. police did confirm that this was an on duty loss of life. we imagine that officials are notifying family members and also the other officers who worked with the officer involved. we don't have a name or a cause of the accident. obviously the question that is out there is given the road conditions with a lot of ice, was that a factor? we don't know if it was. it was a single car accident and crews are leaving the road and crashing into a fence. we hope to hear from county officials. expect closures here around good luck road to the accident scene. we are told they'll be taken up soon and traffic will continue through here. we are live from news 4. >> we will keep you updated on the story. it has been a busy morning on the roads. we will have updates and check

the exit for green belt road in prince george's county. we can you a look with three cars involved. two of the vehicles went off the road. you are looking at the snow plow. still still working to find out more. maryland state police investigating a crash on the beltway. a live look from one of the traffic cameras. two of the cars were involved in that crash in forestville, maryland. one far right lane is said to be shut down before pennsylvania avenue but it's moving smoothly at this hour. it has been a rough morning on the roads. another crash to tell you about on the gw parkway. all southbound lanes are closed. we can show you a look. a van flipped on to its side on the southbound side of the gw parkway south of the key bridge. >> a police officer shot a man

after a car pursued a foot chase. they saw the man involved in criminal activity in the area of comfort inn drive and lee highway in warrenton. he tried to driveway away and lost control of his car and the chase continued on foot. a canine team found him hiding behind a house and the suspect is being treated at the fairfax hospital. >> police said they took a predator off the streets. he is charged with first degree rape in one case and implicated in two others. >> you innocent? >> yep. >> questioning the suspect last night. police arrested the 48-year-old in maryland yesterday. two nights ago he grabbed a woman from behind and held a knife to her throat and allegedly raped her. the victim was able to pick digs out of a photo lineup.

order. crews have been mixing in sand to help the salt go further. we want to take you live to a news conference. the county police chief is speaking about the fatal crash that took the life of one of their officers. >> he was transported from the scene to baltimore. >> you said it was a traffic stop. is that car still out there? >> that's what we are working on. it's very preliminary. that he was attempting to make a traffic stop. we haven't had an opportunity to pull the in car camera information. we are interviewing people as we speak to find out if that is what was happening. what i can tell you, in a 9500 block, he lost control and life the roadway. >> the person he was trying to stop did not stop. they were not on the scene. >> he was not on the scene, no. >> was he in pursuit? >> i don't know that. that's what we are trying to

weather-related. we don't know yet. >> no other officer was with him? >> no. >> can you talk to us about -- >> he has a 3-year-old child. i'm not sure if it's a bior girl. >> we are listening to county police chief speaking about a terrible accident early this morning that happened off the roadways that ended uptaking the life of one of the police officers. what we have learned in just the last couple of minutes is it was 26-year-old brandon robian. he described him as a fine officer who loved his county and didn't want to do anything else with his life. as far as details, they are limited. at this point, what they know and what they passed on to us is that the officer was trying to

make a traffic stop. he was pursuing somebody and lost control of his car. as far as the individual being pursued, they don't have anybody in custody. like i mentioned, very limited details. we know that the officer was transferred from the scene to baltimore where he did die. once again the chief calling him a fine officer. this is a story that we will continue to follow and continue to bring you updates as well on the nbc washington app. >> let's get to a story we will see only on news 4. a teen accused of creating a cyber contest to generate child porn. he masterminded the scheme through the kik app that makes it tough for police to track down predators. they are asking parents to get involved. >> more than 200 million users. you can share messages photos

and videos. >> kids say my parents are on facebook and i don't use facebook anymore. >> with fairfax county police's child exploitation unit. >> kik right now is stocked with all the fish. >> through the search warrant, we dug up a disturbing case a detective in tempe reached out to fairfax county police investigating a 12-year-old who submitted nude photos to a screen name called aaa productions transferred through the kik app. they claimed the chance to win $30,000 for child pornography. they tracked it to a home in fairfax and knocked on the door. a dad answer and turned over two cell phones belonging to his school age children. that's how they found their suspect. he is 14 years old. according to the warrant they found numerous images of child porn recorded in fairfax county.

. police have released the name of the 26-year-old officer who died in prince george's county. he had been with the force less than two years. >> it happened early this morning. der enclosure ward is live in prince george's county. we just heard from the chief. what did he have to say? >> he gave us more of the circumstances of the accident that happened earlier this morning. i want you to take a look at the video from earlier. the cruiser off the road. they say this happened in the 9500 block of green belt road at 2:30 this morning. we hear the details about what

happened. >> around 3:30 this morning the officer was attempting to make a traffic stop on green belt road at which time his vehicle lost control and the welcome left the roadway and hit a wooden fence. >> lease are interested in locking at the camera video from that incident. hopefully they will be able to ascertain. they say the vehicle involved was subject to the traffic stop and not on scene and a passerby. a citizen who called police and told them a cruiser was indeed off the road. the officer was taken to baltimore shock trauma where he was pronounced dead. the chief spoke to the family and he sds that the officer was fulfilling a lifelong ambition to become a police officer when the accident happened. he worked out of the district 5 office in clinton and he had been with the department for less than two years. the investigation continues into the accident that took the life of a lover earlier this morning.
