maybe a little sunshine trying to break out. temperatures right now are a little bit above freezing in the metro area. but quite a bit -- generally above freezing shenandoah valley panhandle of west virginia into maryland early this morning. average high this time of year is 54. we'll have our temperatures getting above that today and again on wednesday. now let's check on the roads. some protection but you overall looking pretty good. >> that's right. hopefully out of the way in a little bit. outer loop near 270, right lane blocked. again, should be moving out of way in just a little while here. other than this we're actually looking pretty good. 66, 95 95 in maryland and all

police department in palmer park with who police are looking for this morning in connection with the crash. >> reporter: there is a traffic camera video near the crash site that may be able to help police investigators. they have been able to pinpoint a minivan that the driver may have had a good van tablg point and could be a good eyewitness so that's why police are trying to identify the driver of that minivan now. brennan rabain was killed early saturday morning just off of greenbelt and good look roads. he lost control and crashed in to a wooden gate. police say his girlfriend was in the vehicle with him. he was off duty at the time when he saw another car speeding past him. he tried to pull that vehicle over he turned on his lights and sirens and went in pursuit. that's when he lost control of the car, crashed and was killed. it may sound unusual that the officer had his xwir friend in

the vehicle with him and then went from off duty to on duty trying to pursue will vehicle, the police chief saying that he did not violate protocol, that he followed protocol and that he did nothing wrong at this point. so again police trying to identify the driver of the minivan. dash cam of the cruiser was not working at the time, so that traffic camera video is the best video that the investigators have to work with at this point. reporting live from palmer park richard jordan news 4. and officer rabain leaves behind a 3-year-old daughter. his fellow officers have set up a go fund me site for donations. if you'd like to help will,p hlp will there is a link in the nbc washington app. a group is making a push for the purple line. it would connect between new carrollton and bethesda. advocates say the they're worried the new governor will cut the project's funding.

they're meeting with maryland lawmakers to talk about it tonight. also police officers in montgomery county will talk about wearing body cameras in the future. the police department says it's been considering a body camera program for about a year now. officers and members of the county council will meet this afternoon. police in prince george's county are asking for your help this morning to find this missing 13-year-old boy. axle morales was last seen around midnight on saturday near briarwood drive and laurel you bowie road. police tell us he is 5'6" and 110 pounds. he was last seen in a gray sweat shirt with blue jeans and purple shoes. if you think you've seen axle, call police. police in d.c. are searching for a missing 12-year-old girl. kiarra conrad was last seen saturday. she's 4'11" and about 90 pounds. conrad was last seen in a pink jacket with a blue hood. she had on a black skirt with black tights and black boots

today you might want to double check where you you park in falls church. street sweeping starts in just a few hour. you'll see cleanup all week long and then the sweepers will be off the roads until next month. in d.c. you won't see sweepers for another week. they were supposed to start a week ago but dpw delayed them twice for weather. you can find out where to park from the red and white signs on the side of your street. if you don't follow them, could you face a $45 ticket or be towed. if you're hoping to get all the salt off your car today with a car wash expect to wait in line. take a look at this scene.

isis. no government confirmation on the ground assault since bow come that ram's uprising, more than 12,000 people have been killed. 5:16. the fbi is investigating the hacking of several u.s. websites by someone claiming to be affiliated with isis. this is the home page of a bank in montana. looks like over the weekend that bank is vus one of a handful of businesses across the u.s. that was hacked. security analysts have not found and official link to the terror group and it's likely a hoax. no information was compromised. at least one person was killed in a roof collapse at a coal mine in west virginia. the accident happened last night at the marshall county coal mine near morgantown. at least two other miners were hurt. state and federal mine officials will work with the owner of the mine to determine the cause of that accident. homicide detectives in d.c. are working two murders this morning.

police got a call about an unconscious woman in the middle of sherman avenue. police say she had been stabbed several times. and we know the name of a man killed in a different part of columbia heights. dionte bathea was killed near center and:00 ogden streets. tonight you can learn more about the route 1 you utility project. vdot is hosting a pardon our dust meeting. officials will explain how the project will impact traffic in that area. the meeting is at lorton volunteer fire station 2. two children have been missing for six months now and their family is hoping they're still alive. katherine hubble was last seen with her son and daughter just before they disappeared. but she will not tell anyone where the children might be.

the children are from germantown they were 2 and 3 when they went missing. the president announcing a new plan today designed to give the economy a boost. the tech hire program will prepare more people for high income tech jobs. there are half a million jobs in software and computer programming today. it says putting more people in those jobs will increase wages, one part of the economic recovery that is lagging behind. >> the number of flu cases in virginia is dropping fast. the health department tells the virginia pilot that the flu is no longer considered widespread. the flu has been widespread for the past 11 weeks. five children died from the flu this season including a fifth grader this loudoun county. we're learning the costs are piling up for the snow in new england. the region was slammed by winter weather. and economists now say it cost the region billions of dollars. ihs global insight says massachusetts alone lost about a billion dollars on productivity

or umbrella. as we'll have the bright sun bouncing off what remains of the snow throughout the rest of the day. temperatures are near freezing in some rural areas. so watch out some of the snow melt maybe a little water on some of the roads may have refrozen a little bit this morning. but most locations are above freezing in the metro area and around the bay. and on the eastern shore. and we'll stay in the low to mid-30s between now through around 8:00 9:00. and then the rest of the commute just cloudy in the upper thirt and 30s. should have dry roads and partly sunny sky as we soar into the upper 50s for around 60 degrees by later this afternoon. then tomorrow not as warm as we'll have a lot of clouds around and rain moving in. timing looks like mid to rate morning rain moves in from the south. occasional rain showers through the away. then drizzle and fog with light rain wednesday morning. and then lingering showers possible maybe through midday on

us. thank you. developing situation at the university of oklahoma right now. this is a new picture that purportedly shows the fraternity house vandalized. it appears to say tear it down. police say this happened after they left and we have been monitoring some live pictures from the scene. and we've noticed that police are actually back there. this all to prevent anymore retaliation after the fraternity posted a video online which shows them in a racist chant towards black people saying they never get into the fraternity. there was even references to lynching. the chapter has been shut down. the members suspended. and the university of oklahoma says it's investigating. 5:33. new this morning, u.s. ambassador mark lippert could be released from a south korean hospital as early as tomorrow. lippert was injured when a man attacked him with a knife. needed 80 stitches. doctors have removed 40 of those
