the morning's commute. another mild morning outside. we're tracking the large system you see there and the impact it will have on you as you make your way home from work tonight. storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein here with what you need to know. it's a broad area of rain that stretches from illinois to alabama. it's now heading to the north and east. it continues to track closer to the metro area leading edge of the rain is near roanoke in southwestern virginia, north carolina. that will be moving into the metro area but not until perhaps early afternoon in our western suburbs. southern suburbs seeing it earlier than that. in prince george's county mid 30s. most of montgomery county above freezing in the mid 30s. fairfax county most locations above freezing. most of loudoun county a little bit above freezing. freezing in prince william county.

there's the capitol under an increasingly cloudy sky ahead of the rain. we'll have a dry morning then a wet afternoon. grab the umbrella before you head out the door. it looks like more rain toward the end of the wee a the drive time forecast. >> crews are working to fix a water main break on a road many of you may use. lanes on route 1 and college park are closed right now. news 4 richard jordan live to tell us when they might open again. richard? >> reporter: aaron, the northbound lanes that are being worked on by crews. they have a jackhammer out and they're breaking the road as they repair a water main on the ikea way. you have the two right northbound lanes that are blocked here because of the work that is going on. traffic is getting by on the far left lane. we are seeing some occasional

backups when there's a rush of people that are coming off the beltway on to route 1. this is at times, the occasional backup. however, it does clear up once they get moving again. this could be a problem here for at least another hour, possibly longer. the work that is going on now to fix the water main as we speak. it is route 1 near ikea way, the northbound lanes impacted here. other problems you want to watch out for this morning, let's go to melissa for that. >> right now that is going to be one of our big issues this morning. 95 in virginia another problem. northbound at mine road. we have the two left lanes blocked. i've had several accidents here in this stretch of 95. be careful northbound or southbound. going to have some problems there this morning. brand new crash at veirs mill. sending chopper 4 to that. we'll have more in the next couple of minutes. wide look at things no major problems as you look at the

beltway, at least prince george's county into and out of town looking good. pennsylvania avenue branch avenue rolling along nicely. more on the crash we're hearing about coming up in the next couple of minutes along with your travel times. see you at 6:1e6. hazmat crews are gone from a neighborhood in northwest washington. we're working to find out what was there to cause the fbi, firefighters, and police to respond near connecticut avenue and military road. we learned someone opened up a 40--year-old safe in a house there and found containers with syrupy white substance inside. the substance was police shut down the street but it is open again right now. and today a local group called d.c. ferguson will protest at the police oversight hear in the district.

the group said police unfairly target minoritie stops. d.c. polic. the po police department' over the last year a hearing. it will happen at 10:00 a.m. it's looking into the chapters around the country after sae closed in oklahoma. they were recorded singing about lynching black people. they had their membership suspended and required to leave the frat today. they received reports of other incidents at other schools. the try delta sorority is under investigation for its involvement in the video. we know when a prince george's county police officer will be laid to rest. the funeral is this thursday in temple hills. he died in a crash this pa weekend. police say he crashed into a fence while trying to stop a speeding car. oh my god! oh my god! >> absolutely amazing video coming out of north carolina this morning. we should tell you there are no

delays on amtrak right now at union station after that crash that injured more than 60 people. a train traveling to d.c. and eventually to new york city yesterday hit a tractor trailer that was stuck on the tracks at north carolina. one of the train's cars toppled over. as many as 60 people were hurt. the farmer family was north for spring break. >> we heard the breaks come on and there was the impact. >> are you okay? >> we're okay. >> this is the third serious commuter train crash in less than two months. two deadly crashes in new york and california last month killed a total of sev injured 30. a new reports shows budget cuts lead to a big increasing in class size in prince william county public schools.

welcome back. a developing story right now. two olympians were killed in a helicopter crash. two helicopters filming a popular european tv show crashed in a remote area of argentina killing all ten people on board both aircraft. it includes pilots and eight french athletes including two olympics medal winners and a sailing champion. it's not clear what caused the crash yesterday. new video of the two 600-foot tankers that collided causing a chemical spill. >> gasoline additive leaked from one of the damage tankers. the additive is flammable and causes dizziness and suffocation. the ships collided in heavy fog in the houston shipping channel. which connects the guchlt gulf

of mexico of port of houston. no subs the madison, wisconsin police chief said he hopes the family of a unarmed biracial man killed by a white police officer can find forgiveness. police share their sense of loss over the shooting death of tony robinson. the 19-year-old was killed in an apartment after reportedly assaulting someone else last week. the chief is not acknowledging any wrong doing by the officer or the department. police in madison are busy trying to figure out who is responsible for the cyber attack affecting the city's website and e-mail system. it happened sometime yesterday. it may be related to robinson's death. similar cyber attacks happened in other communities after officer-involved shooting. a frightening attempted abduction caught on surveillance tape. watch as the man runs down the sidewalk carrying a 2-year-old boy he took from the parking lot. the child's sister and brother gave chase. deputies say the sister was able to describe the suspect because

he had spoken to her before the abduction. police were able to find the boy and reunite him with his family. right now montgomery county police are asking for your help to find a missing man from gaithersburg. we want to show you his picture here. this is 67-year-old. he was last seen before 7:00 last night. his family is worried because he has dementia. we'll post the photograph on twitter and facebook. give police a call if you have seen him. there's a show of support for former virginia governor bob mcdonnell. of thousands of dollars fo exchange of prom suppleme. they are urging a federal appeals court to toss out the convictions. they're from around the country and include former d.c. attorney general fred cooke, jr.. the today we could see a

wet. might get anywhere from a half inch to inch total by the time it ends by early tomorrow morning. we could get fog and drizzle with this later this afternoon into the evening along with the rain coming thereupon. temperatures will be mild in the afternoon. we're chilly in the upper 30s in prince george's county. mid 30s in montgomery county in the mid to upper 30s across fairfax county. it was below freezing last hour. it's above freezing. increasing clouds over the metro area now. temperatures will be near 50 by noontime when the light rain arrives southern and western suburbs. low 50s during the afternoon with the rain coming through and fog developing too by later this afternoon into the evening. then it all tampers off and ends during the morning hours on wednesday. sun back tomorrow afternoon into the low 60s. then we hoover near 50 to upper 40s overnight and drop to the 30s by dawn on thursday. sunshine back on thursday with highs in the 50s.

breaking news right now in rock rockville. take a look at this it's completely shut down because of an overturned vehicle. they righted it a couple of minutes ago. looks like they're getting it on the e truck here. veirs mill westbound at 355 is totally shut down because of the crash. the alternate is randolph road. turn left before you approach the crash. it could be there for a little bit longer at least. 95 north and virginia at mine we have the two left lanes blocked. we're seeing some delays here on 95 because of three different crashes we had here this morning. 35 miles per hour is all we're seeing at this point this morning. pretty slow as you're heading northbound. 66 into town is a little slow. out of town no measureissues.

hollen is also running. all the members of the county council endorsed him. you can see them shaking hands here. we are learning today that some d.c. police officers have increased their salaries by working a lot of overtime. some are doubling and tripling their salaries. records provided by the police department show s one sergea salary of $89,000 earned an additional $179,000 in overtime. at least 25 other officers double their salary by working overtime shifts last year. officers earned the overtime working automatic traffic enforcement shifts or speed cameras. today in montgomery county the council will be working on changes for the rules for taxis, uber and lift.

crews are fixing a broken water main in college park. those repairs could seriously affect your commute to work today. news 4 richard jordan live along route 1 to tell us what is closed this morning. >> reporter: we're learning this is going to be a problem for most of the day. wssc telling us it could be six hours before the repairs are complete. take a look at what is happening here on route 1 and ikea way. these are the northbound lanes. you can see some traffic off the beltway. there are occasional backups but for the most part the left lane the one open lane is helping traffic move along here. it's a six inch pipe that burst overnight. crews are working to repair it. they've been able to get into the road and are making repairs now. it's the northbound lanes of route 1 near ikea way just past the beltway. you can expect this will continue definitely throughout the morning rush hour. possibly into the afternoon.

reporting live in college park. richard jordan news 4. >> oh my god! >> absolutely amazing video coming out of north this morning. we should tell you there are no delays on amtrak right now at union station after that crash that injured more than 60 people. a train traveling to d.c. and eventually to new york cit yesterday hit a tractor trailer that was stuck on the tracks at north carolina. one of the train's cars toppled over. as many as 60 people were hurt. the farmer family was heading north for spring break. >> we heard the breaks come on and there was the impact. >> are you okay? >> we're okay. >> this is the third serious commuter train crash in less than two months. two deadly crashes in new york and california last month killed a total of seven people and injured 30. here are four things to know before you head out the door. the u.s. ambassador to south korea out of the hospital. he was being treated for the past five days from injures from a knife attack.
