vid? >> reporter: wendy, most of us would see a crash like the one that happened here on saturday and our natural reaction would be to run up and check on the victims, maybe call 911. but tonight police tell me that this suspected thief instead just walked up to the car and took what he wanted. his photo taken while at checkout, several different stores, all on the same day, all on the same credit card. a credit card police say didn't belong to him. it started saturday morning right in front of this prince william county shopping center. that wreck about right here involving three cars, one of the victims a woman from woodbridge in her 30s in and out of conscious. witnesses saw a man walk up to the crushed car and walk away with a black bag. inside that bag, according to police, the victim's wallet. >> when we were on scene units tried to locate the purse. she told us it was in the vehicle. we weren't able to find it.

>> reporter: while the victim headed to the hospital, police say their suspect went shopping, using her credit card at several stores, including right here at potomac hills mall. >> we were later contacted by the victim that her credit cards were used at multiple locations within woodbridge. >> reporter: that's when police started going after the surveillance images hoping you'll know what this guy is. and police tell me tonight that they have surveillance images of yet another man using another of the victim's credit cards. more on that second suspect when we join you ahead at 6:00. for now, pat, back to you. >> thank david. new at 5:00, three more fights at a local high cool,school. that school has had a string of trublt trouble. tracee wilkins is live. >> reporter: unfortunately, more incidents at forestville high. just today three more fights police were called to the school. a lot of issues happening here.

this is following the other issues that we have already reported. now, school officials confirm a number of girls were involved in a group fight inside the school while school was in session. this happened near the end of january. there's video of this fight now. we received this video after airing a story about a teacher here at forestville high school who was punched and knocked out by a student just a few days after that girl fight. now, the person who e-mailed this video said the stool was out of control. the head of security said that that was not the case. now, today another parent contacted us after three unrelated fights happened inside of this school this morning. after one of the incidents, a grandmother, a mother and a brother of one of the students came to the school and had to be escorted out by police for disorderly behavior according to the school system. we spoke with one parent who says her student says this has become common place here at forestville high school. >> he says there's a fight every day. there's not a day go by without

a fight ushgs know. it's gotten to the point that the kids actually look forward to fighting for some reason or another. especially when they get on youtube and what have you. it's almost like you become well-known in you get on you tube. >> reporter: forestville high school has the second highest graduation rate in prince george's county so clearly more students are doing right thing than the wrong thing. but the group doing the wrong thing are causing some serious issues and disruptions at this high school. coming up at 6:00, what parents say needs to happen next. i'm in forestville, reporting live, back to you. a teenager wound up in police custody after a scare inside a local school. police arrested a 16-year-old at seneca valley high in germantown after a resource officer found the student had a knife. the school was put in lockdown for a short time. no injuries. and the student was taken for questioning. a school security staffer at woodbridge senior high is charged tonight with having guns on school property.

police say john lennox kept the guns at his residence which is on the school property but carried him during security checks and by law only police are allowed to have guns on school grounds. prince george's county police officer killed in a crash is being remembered at this hour. a viewing is under way for officer brennan rabane. it's being held in beltsville and will continue until 7:00 tonight. rabane died last weekend after crashing his cruiser while trying to stop a speeding car. his funeral takes place 10:00 a.m. tomorrow at victory christian ministries in temple hill. now to a developing story involving a prince missing college student. virginia tech has identified the student who vanished on a carnival cruise as cameron smook, a senior engineering major from the richmond area. cameron and friends were on a cruise for spring break. on sunday, the family was told he had fallen overboard.

>> at this point, the coast guard's search has been suspended. we'll have more ahead in our broadcast. it caused a traffic nightmare yesterday for most of the day. now for the first time, we are hearing from the people who saw that tractor trailer flip over on i-95 in maryland. barbara harrison is in the newsroom with the calls that came in. >> wendy, drivers quickly pulled over to call 911 after watching that tanker truck flip over. it began to spill its biodiesel fuel across the road. one woman saw the whole thing unfold from her work office. >> i just saw an 18-wheeler turn over on the highway here. i can't believe i just saw that. >> you say it's a tractor trailer? >> yes. it's carrying gasoline and leaking out all over the interstate. >> the crash shut down 95 south in laurel for hours as crews cleaned up the spill and righted the truck. police now say an aggressive

driver in a ford focus caused that chain reaction that led to the crash. the driver is charged with reckless driving. sad news for a local family whose loved one disappeared two days ago. the body of a 67-year-old man was found this morning behind a dunkin' donuts in gaithersburg less than a mile from his home. the discovery came just hours before his family was supposed to hold a news conference pleading for the public's help. police don't suspect foul play. and vdot has a plan on the i-66 outside the beltway and possibly add toll lanes. some say it's long overdue, but dozens of homes and businesses in the construction zone could be affected and one worried resident is fighting back. transportation reporter adam tuss is live along i-66 in vienna with a closer look at the plan. >> reporter: that's right, wendy. you know this is becoming a bigger issue all around our region. we want to find ways to get out of traffic, but there is very

little wiggle room because we have so much development. case in point right here along i-66. now, we want to show you a graphic here. you see all the numbers on the screen? those are pieces of private property that could be affected by a decision to widen 66 outside the beltway and put in a new toll lane system. vdot tells us as many as 35 homes could be affected. as you can imagine, this is giving homeowners concern. we talked to one man who feel like he's being punished for living closer in so those farther out can have an easier commute. >> we made a conscious choice to live closer to tysons corner, d.c., reston, whenever our jobs take us. we may have a smaller house but we chose not to live in the traffic. >> reporter: and back here live along 66 comeing up at 6:00 vdot not only has plans to widen 66 outside the beltway, but there are also plans for toll lanes inside the beltway.

glen ivy announced earlier today that he's going to run for maryland's fourth congressional district which covers parts of prince george's and anne arundel county. ivy was elected state's attorney in 2002 and 2006. he filed to run against edwards in 2012 but he later withdrew. students in manassas park schools will be starting the next school year in august instead of after labor day. last night the school board approved two components of a calendar to accommodate a type of year-round school. the school year begins obvious 17th but will include two five-day breaks in october and april a final calendar will be voted on later this month. costco's plan to build a pumping station in wheaton may be out of gas. today montgomery county's board of appeals denied a petition to build that 16-pump station. it would have gone up at the costco at the westfield wheaton mall. residents have opposed this calling it a health hazard. they say fumes from idling cars

would hurt children who use a nearby swimming pool. they're calling it a victory for their community today. the board says there was no need for another gas station there. after today's ruling, costco's representatives didn't comment on their next move. traffic should be moving more smoothly along the gw parkway. earlier it was riddled with potholes giving flat tires to drivers hitting them. news4 found several abandoned vehicles along that road. the repair crews spent the day filling those holes. congressman paul ryan is being sued. the news4 i-team broke this story this afternoon on twitter. scott macfarlane will have the car crash allegations live from the newsroom. a unique documentary in the district. new tonight, a filmmaker explains why a group of gays formed a gang. we've seen our rain continue to move to the south leaving us in very nice conditions today. but the rain, it returns.

documents obtained today by the news4 i-team's scott macfarlane. scott? >> according to court documents the car crash happened on the northbound lanes of i-395 in d.c. the morning of february 25, 2014. the d.c. area men suing the congressman say his chief of staff was driving unsafe and rear-ended them according to the court filings. they are suing for injuries including a concussion. congressman ryan was not in the car at the time, according to the court filings, but it was his car and it was his chief of staff behind the wheel that morning. the justice department is representing the congressman and is asking a judge to dismiss the case, arguing mr. ryan's chief of staff was on government business at the time and that for that reason, the men should instead be taking their complaints to a federal agency. we are still awaiting comment from the attorneys in this case mr. ryan's spokesman says it's customary for the justice department to handle or defend suits against member fz congress. a court date in the case scheduled for april 10th.

virginia delegate joe morrissey will no longer be spending nights in jail. the lawmaker was convicted in december for having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl. despite that conviction, the former henriqueco county democrat won reelection as an independent. a work release program allowed him to spend days in the general assembly and nights in jail. morrissey now faces felony charges of fabricating a document related to the sex scandal. virginia is one of cuba's top u.s. trading partners and governor terry mcauliffe wants to do even more trade. mcauliffe announced plans to visit cuba later this year on an economic trade mission. virginia has been trading soybeans apple, boultpoultry and pork with cuba. some will stay away from the st. patrick's day parade because of the grand marshal, the

tonight s.w.a.t.ing is being blamed for a heavy police presence outside rapper lil wayne's home in miami beach. police responded after getting a call about shots fired. and as many as four people being hit. they later determined it was all a hoax. no one was hurt and lil wayne wasn't even home at the time. right now search and recovery teams are working to find any trace of nearly a dozen service members presumed dead after a helicopter crashed off

recently hailed as a hero. in one incident a rookie firefighter richard kirkpatrick was pulled over by police yesterday evening after d.c. police saw him run a stop sign and nearly hit two pedestrians. as he was fleeing police, a passenger in his car tried to jump out. according to these charging documents kirkpatrick eventually pulled over. once he was in handcuffs, he head-butted an officer and tried to run away before being subdued by police. kirkpatrick is charged with assaulting a police officer and reckless driving. in the second incident which happened sunday in anne arundel county, in that incident, a veteran firefighter chuck ryan was charged with assaulting a police officer and another person during a brawl at a party. ryan made headlines in 2011 after he was almost burned to death during a house with two counts of assault, disorderly conduct and failure to obey a police officer. a spokesperson for the d.c. fire department tells news4 they are aware of both arrests and both

men have been place on administrative leave pending an investigation. at the live desk mark segraves. a local road could be closed for months as crews try to fix a problem that runs dietscher than potholes. you can see from chopper 4 just how big that hole is. or you could if we showed you that. the hole is located on garden city drive near the new carrollton metro station. we're told a huge pipe collapsed after heavy rains and now it needs to be fixe the maryland state highway association has closed the ramp from garden city drive to eastbound 50. that's a busy road for metro riders who use the new carrollton station. president obama's request for war powers in the battle against isis met with a lot of questions today on capitol hill and for a change the toughest sell may be within his own party. the president put a three-year time limit on this authorization promises the u.s. role would be limited. but his chief leaders in defense

daniel harmon wright lost the appeal of his involuntary manslaughter conviction. the virginia supreme court decided today not to hear his case. harmon wright received a three-year prison sentence. he has always claimed the shooting in a church parking lot in 2012 was self-defense. he plans to take his appeal to the u.s. supreme court. and a plea agreement tonight for a 19-year-old laurel man who posed as a police officer and sexually assaulted and robbed prostitutes as part of that deal he pled guilty to robbery and is now facing 20 years in jail and a $250,000 fine. a local documentary filmmaker in the district is focusing on a unique gang in the city. tom sherwood reports it's a gang of many gay and lesbian members who banded together for protection and support. >> being gay and black, just like, you know a nightmare waiting to happen. >> reporter: they gather mostly at night and near southwest and sometimes northeast to socialize and support each other in a

the man suspected in a series of highway shootings in maryland including shots fired at an nsa building has been linked to nine cases. >> tonight that includes shots fired at the popular maryland live casino. that's where we find news4's pat collins with details. >> reporter: the scope of this case seems to grow and grow and grow. there are three jurisdictions involved, anne arundel county, prince george's county and howard county. at first, we learned of five incidents, then seven, and now the number is nine.

police now say they belong the alleged serial shooter hong young fired off shots into the maryland live casino building at arundell mills mile. they say it was outside and that no one was hurt. >> the management at maryland live found what they thought were bullet holes on the side of the casino. we investigated found out it was in fact bullet holes. the ballistics are out based on the method of operation, we believe that is linked to the rest of the shootings. >> reporter: traveling about in his lincoln town car, police say young shot and at a truck on the icc at a building in the nsa, at a man getting gas at arundel mills. when they raided young's home they found an arsenal of weapons. he shot at a library, a walmart, movie theater. he targeted mostly billion buildings, not people and they

>> reporter: two years after her daughter's death, linda diaz is spending much of her time at the state capitol fighting for lorin's law. >> instead of fighting the team, i decided to do something to make her live. >> reporter: delegate jocelyn pena is sponsoring house bill 947. it calls for more mental health training for school counselors. lorin's law would require counselors to complete a training class in mental health and substance abuse as part of their certificate renewal process every five years. >> it's good to stay on top of things and see what's new what's fresh. what kind of programs are out there that i'll be able to refer this child to if they're suffering from depression. >> reporter: diaz will testify at a house committee hearing tomorrow. >> it's a guidance counselor. just refreshes their memory and goes through courses on mental health, they will know the signs. i won't have to call them and beg them and basically give them the signs. these are sign that's they would

the plane were evaluated and released without injury. this follows the helicopter crash in florida that killed seven marines. they were taking part in a training mission last night when the chopper went down off the coast. investigators trying to determine if fog caused that crash. now back to you. because of an incredible tanker fire only the westbound lanes of i-94 near dearborn, michigan, are open. it burned for nearly two hours earlier today. fuel burned on the road and in the sewers. nbc is reporting a driver cut off the tanker and cuz caused the accident. no serious injuries but officials have to check the highway surface before the interstate can reopen. osha is investigating what caused this deadly oil rig fire in west texas. the rig exploded in an oilfield about 40 miles south of midland. it sent flames and smoke through the air. three workers were killed, another worker at the site was

able to walk away. the well is owned by a company called parsley energy of midland, a company spokesperson says the workers who died were independent contractors. now to the latest developments after a virginia tech student on spring break apparently went overboard on a cruise ship. reporter bethany teague talked with those who knew him. she has our story from blacksberg. >> reporter: i'm hearing time and time again today from the people who knew cameron what a kind-hearted and warm person he was. cameron smook was scheduled to graduate this spring with a degree in mining engineering. his family said he had already accepted a job and was looking forward to a bright future. during his time at virginia tech, smook also spent time working at mo's southwest grill in blacksburg. he spoke with his work family there today who told me, no matter what was going on, he always had a smile on his face and he will be terribly missed.
