good morning, everyone. welcome to "news4 midday." i'm barbara harrison. right now an american aid worker is at nih in bethesda treated for ebola. the patient arrived from west africa earlier this morning. right to news 4 megan mcgrath with more. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, barbara. the patient was brought here to nih very early in the morning before dawn and right now they're being evaluated by a team of specialists. now, not a lot of information is being released at this point, but here is what we know so far -- the patient is an american. they were admitted here to nih at 4:44 a.m. this morning.

transported from sierra leon where they contracted ebola to the u.s. in isolation aboard a privately chartered medevac. the patient is a health care worker. they were volunteering at an ebola treatment unit in west africa where they came in contact with the virus. this is the second ebola patient treated here at nih. the first was nurse nina pham. she contracted the virus at a dallas hospital while treating thomas duncan a liberian man who fell ill shortly after coming to the u.s. pham was successfully treated, and released and she is now ebola-free. nih has a highly specialized contagious disease unit designed to handle diseases like ebola one of a handful of such facilities in the country. hospital officials are not releasing a lot of information about this patient. we don't know their gender for example, or their age. we are being told that right now they are being evaluated by that

special team that handles potentially deadly infection diseases. back to you. >> we'll follow the story and working to find out why a metro transit police officer shot and kill add man inside a tunnel at the potomac metro station. met tow vez last night an officer noticed a man inside the tunnel. police called. around 9:00 p.m. a female officer shot that man killing him. no word if the man inside the tunnel was armed or whether there was a struggle. the station was shut down during the invest i'm richard jordan at the live desk following breaking news that could impact your commute late this morning and into the early afternoon. 395 northbound shut down right now because of a crash at 7 area road. these are live pictures from the cameras. people are getting all right ramp there on seminary but cannot go any further north on 395. southbound traffic doesn't seem to be affected but definitely

and carrie dann joins us with more on the president's response to ferguson. how is that being received? >> so far well. what t. you also saw attorney general eric holder at the very tip of the spear when it comes to addressing the situation in ferguson speaking in very harsh terms even more so than the presid the person who did this was a punk. they are not reflective of the community in ferguson. this is a situation the president really wanted to address. he's wanted to talk about the issue of civil rights and ferguson as an example of a place that could get better that the community could come together obviously the shooting really disrupted that process. the president wants to come out strong aand condemn and that's what he did last night. >> looking ahead to 2016 and a nbc news/"wall street poll election about change. >> a busy week. hillary clinton and the e-mail scandal. the iran the republicans sent the letter, scott walker becoming a sort of front-runner.

this is the most important data point from the entire week. 60% of people told pollsters e a candidate's in 2016 who moves the country forward, changes from current policies that's regardless whether they have experience the most important thing to them is change. a big problem if your name is hillary clinton or jeb bush. both have baggage from the past. jeb bush is in a little even more disadvantage than hillary clinton in the fact that there are republicans even almost half of republicans say jeb bush represents the past. i want somebody who represents the future. democrats are more optimistic about hillary clinton but it's still a big problem for both candidates going forward. >> how does hillary clinton controversy with her e-mails play into this whole thing? >> it is a problem for her in that framework of a change election. this is kind of reminding even people who like the clintons of the bad, old days during the '90s when there was so much rancor around the clintons. there was always accusations of secrecy and a thing with the clintons you might not be get

general motors is recalling about 60,000 chevy volt hybrids. gm says carbon monoxide can quickly build up if the car it left running. the recall covers volts made between 2011 and 2013. the problem fixed with a software update limiting the amount of time a car can be left running. so far two people have gotten actual carbon monoxide poisoning from this issue. and kia issued a recall. seoul suvs need fixed, gas pedals can bend or break, making it hard to accelerate the car increasing a risk for a crash. kia says no crashes on injurying reported. the recall expected to star
