bensen news4. back to you. developing tonight, a bizarre murder case in montgomery county. a man strangles a local pastor who was trying to help him. the suspect is now being held without bond after tr this week on st. st. johnsburg lane. kristin wright is there live. you spoke to the victim's co-pastor. talk about that. >> reporter: the pastor was murdered in the blue house here behind me and we're told -- the pastor was murdered in the blue house here behind me. we're told this is the house he believed he could get rid of demons. pastor connery dagadu served the beautiful feet ministry. he was routinely called upon to expel demons. dagadu and minister alina held prayer service and cast away demons at the home on st. st. johnsbury in german town. roland zinneh reached out the to dagadu this week. he said he was hearings telling him to dance. so they came from pennsylvania

with his fiancee and another woman. the two pastors tray preyed with him tuesday night. there were no problems until she awoke wednesday. e charged at me right in front of the house, so before he could get to me i closed the door. i said you calm down. and he didn't stop. and he was still coming to me. so i closed the door. when i closed the door he smashed the window. >> reporter: she says after that zinneh threatened to kill her, then she went down to the basement and found pastor dagadu. he had been strangled. zinneh is charged with first-degree murder. he'll have a mental evaluation. tonight at 6:00 how pastor dagadu's death could change the way the ministry operates. back to you. we are also learning some new details this evening about the moments just before that deadly police shoo inside

that metro station. this unfolded in a tunnel at the potomac avenue station last night. let's to right to news4's mark segraves who's drive at the scene with more details on this. mark? >> reporter: late this afternoon metro put out a press release with a time line of what happened leading up to the moments when a female transit officer came face-to-face with the suspect right before she shot and killed him. the victim is described only as an adult male. according to the metro press release, just before 9:00 last night, a train operator saw an unauthorized person in a tunnel just outside of the potomac avenue station. minutes later metro transit police arrived on the scene. once power to the third rail was turned off, a team of metro transit police officers entered the tunnel to search for the person. about ten minutes later one of the officers encountered the man about 400 feet from the potomac avenue station platform the officer fired several shots,

hitting him multiple times and killing the man. ipts not clear if the officer was alone when she first saw the suspect. it is also not clear why the man was many the tunnel. police have not released his name. now, despite repeated requests metro is refusing to answer any questions about this incident, for instance how my shots were fired and whether or not that officer was alone in the tunnel when she encountered the man. coming up at 6:00, what sources are telling us about this victim. pat, back to you. >> thanks mark. the former army soldier who jumped the white house fence and made it inside the executive mansion will be going to prison. omar gonzalez pled guilty in court today to two charges connected with the incident in september. investigators say he had a knife on him at the time as part of the plea teal he'll go to prison for at least a year and he'll be banned from setting foot in d.c. after his release. developing right now, some

painful changes coming to prince george's county's government. a new budget calls for furloughs, layoff and tax increases. tracee wilkins was at that news conference that just wrapped up with the details on this. tracee? >> reporter: it is the most controversial budget proposal the kounl ti has seen in decades. but the county executive is saying t no more room to shift anything around, that the bill has to be paid and his number-one priority are schools. >> this fungd plan will enable us to do things we haven't been able to do in quite some time. >> with that baker introduced a bold $3.6 billion budget with money for public safety and schools but also filled with layoffs, furloughs, and tax increases. >> even in these, you know, tough economic time we're investing. >> reporter: the prince george's county school board req $1.9 billion in funding and baker proposes completely funding them by giving $135.7

million more than they got last year. >> there were years where we were reduced by hundreds of millions of there ares and so, you know, wht happens several successive years it takes a while to build that back up. >> reporter: the money to pay for that increase will come from increasing property taxes. the 15-cent increase per $100 is expected to yield $104.9 million for schools. so if you have a $200,000 home you will pay $300 more in taxes per year. there are also staff impacts with five furlough days proposed and 110 layoffs for county employees. the furloughs will also impact fire and police. >> but no one likes furloughs. the county executive puts it into perspective that everybody's investing and we're investing back into the county i believe we'll get the support. >> right now it's just a proposal. and we keep that imi that there's stale lot of work to do to get to a final budget. >> reporter: baker says while investments in public safety

already filled just since the start of this year. so the worst is yet to come. montgomery county is expecting spring to be the peak time for potholes. and this week 20 additional trucks and crews have been out on the roads. those crews tried to fill the potholes within 48 hours of learning that they exist. the second american to be treated for ebola in our area is now in an isolation unit in bethesda le is in our newsroom with the latest on the patient who's at nih. chris? >> we don't know a whole lot about this person but doctors say the patient is in serious condition. now, they were admitted just before 5:00 in the morning after an overnight charter flight from sarah leone. that's where the person was volunteering in the fight against ebola and somehow contracted the virus. we're told the cds cd is also monitoring several other americans that are still in sarah leone. they may have come in contact with this infected patient. more than 10,000 people in west africa have died of ebola, but

i'm chris lawrence at the live desk. yee at a local golf course is in serious condition after an atv flipped on top of him. this happen at the westfields golf club in clifton, virginia arnold 3:00 this afternoon. firefighters say the employee was driving the atv at work when it flipped, landed on top of him and trapped him. a helicopter had to be called in to fly the employee to inova fairfax hospital but firefighters say he is.

may sound strange, but we met a guy who's a pothole repairman. he sees his work more as an artist. i'm going to introduce you to him all new at 6:00. for now, back to you. spring break is getting shorter for thousands of local students and teachers. news4's scott mcfarlane is in the newsroom with an update on the schools that are adding new school days to make um for all those snow days. scott? >> yeah it's payback time. anne arundel county frederick county garrett counties have decided to slice one day from spring break. it's march 30th in anne arundel, april 1st in frederick, april 6th in garrett. state officials say three other districts have asked permission to do the same but they won't say which ones yet. we know montgomery county schools are keeping spring break into account soer to reduce the school year by three days to offset the snow days. but they've warned parents expect the school year to extend from june 12th to june 17th. frederick county despite trimming spring break, will also

extend its school year by two days through june 17th and the school year will b extended till 17th in howard county too. prince george's county schools say no decision there yet, but the northern virginia districts will keep their calendars intact. they didn't miss enough days there to require any makeups. in maryland this is the second year in a row school districts have asked state leaders for permission to change their school calendars and worth remembering the state rejected requests in 2014 to shorten the 108-day school year pause of all the snow. back to you. police are trying to track down a guy they say tried to run over a cop twice. video from the officer's body camera shows the man along 22nd street off southern 1/2 southeast earlier this week. we're told that place were called about a suspicious car and when the officer tried to talk to this man police say the man drove off and then tried to hit the officer. he then tried a second time to hit the officer but ended up hitting the officer's police cruiser. a news4 viewer is getting

credit tonight for helping police crack a robbery case. prince william county police now say they have a better idea of who snatched a woman's purse from the scene of an accident. thanks to that news4 viewer police say they're looking for william ray powell. someone called the tip line after seeing david culvert's report on wednesday. police say powell stole a woman's purse from her wrecked car in woodbridge last weekend then credit card. if you know where powell is call police. and the reward to track down the person who shot and wounded two officers in ferguson missouri, has now growe than $10,000. st. louis county polic say finding that gunman is the top priority. they believe the shots came from a hill about 150 yards from the stas political analyst station. rainy weather has helped provide a calmer atmosphere in the city of ferguson now, and there are no planned protests tonight. new tonight, large amounts of marijuana, cocaine, and heroin seized from a

year sparked fresh debate here in college park today. in that e-mail the student wrote racial slurs about african-american women and asian women and about sexually assaulting women. the e-mail found its way to university offics week prompting a quick response from president wallace loh. "the vulgar language in the e-mail expresses views that are reprehensible to our campus unit. we immediately met with the individual involved and a university investigation is under way." wallace loh took to twitter for discussion with the campus community. among the exchanges discussions of freedom of speech tweeting how freedom of speech is a core american value but so is tolerance and equity. another in the discussion responded does not tolerance also mean tolerating a view to which you strongly disagree? it's clear tt many on this campus disagree with the remarks in that e-mail. >> to still be acting like this toward women, i just thought we progressed. >> i have no clue why they would
