jackie bensen is live at the bank. what are you hearing? >> reporter: sources tell news 4 the two men were arrested after a warrant was served at a location in southwest washington late this evening. this may be a big break for detectives and federal agents who have been doggedly pursuing the so-called black hat bandits. the heavy law enforcement presence more than a dozen investigat from the secret service, the fbi and d.c. police was prompted in part by the description of the man armed with a gun who had robbed the wells fargo bank in the 3300 block of rk krk avenue northwest. ethan spalding had just walked out of the golds gym next door a little after 2:30. >> i saw a guy with his face covered, a poncho really dark blue breathing superduper hard. i put two and two very quickly. wells fargo, guy with a mask a bag, you know cops chasing him. i guess he robbebank. police officers were very close to the bank at the time of the robbery and gave

chase. >> upstairs there was a car, i guess, waiting for him with a buddy, i guess. and he jumped in that came down here and the cops just chased him that way. >> reporter: detectives and federal agents examined the roof top parking lot which has a security camera. sources tell news 4 the investigators are trying to determine if the two men arrested in the hours after this bank robbery are the black hat bandit. the gun wielding masked suspects are responsible for at least eight bank robberies in d.c. maryland and virginia and have so far managed to stay just steps ahead of law enforcement. in response to the question as to whether investigators believe these are black hat bandits, an fbi spokesman told me quote, we're following all logical leads with regard to these individuals. jackie bensen news 4. we have a weekend upon us. take a look at our very active storm team 4 radar. the rain you see here could be affecting some of your weekend

plans, especially if you're planning to run a marathon. how does it look for tomorrow? >> rainy for sure. but the air also dry, we're getting sprhe area. a closer examination shows we even have a few locations with some moderate rains up around hagerstown northwest of frederick, then another location a third of an inch per hour pulling right across i-95. the intensity of the rain will pick up from light rain now to more moderate rains as we get to 3:00 a.m. by the time we get to 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. it will start to pour across the area. the fog not looking as bad, but when i return i'll tell you what our worst time period will be with this weather system and when it finally moves out and we can get enjoy the outdoors this weekend. >> thanks veronica. new at 11:00, protesters blocking traffic on 14th and u. this comes a day after a man was killed by police in the potomac avenue metro tunnel.

demonstrators stood in the intersection of 14th and u from 7:00 until 8:30 tonight. the d.c. ferguson group led this protest. ton we're learning more about the man killed in that shooting. his name is bobby gross. he was 35 years old. officers confronted him last the potomac avenue station. police say he didn't have a shirt on and was carrying a big stick. gross had been on the tracks about 20 minutes before he started moving towards the police officer. she fired multiple shots and killed him. new tonight montgomery county police have stepped up patrols to look for drunk drivers. starting tonight through st. patrick's day, they're deploying another 50 officers and manning sobriety checkpoints. officials are urging anyone heading out to get a designated driver or take a cab. tonight a pennsylvania man is behind bars in montgomery county. he's accused of killing a pastor. roland zinneh was arrested on wednesday. police say he killed pastor connery dagadu of the beautiful

feat world impacting ministry of germantown. the suspect went to the home to have the pastor pray for him because he was hearing demon voices. >> wanted to pray for him and cast out whatever spirits were bothering him. that's why he came. that's why he came to us to be prayed for. he came for help. so how this happened and it ended like this it's outrageous. you know what i mean? >> police say zinneh believed that pastor dagadu was possessed by demons and that's why he was attacked on wednesday morning. the medical examiner's office says he was strangled. zinneh is being held without bond. prince george's county executive unveiled his 3.6 billion dollar budget today. almost 2 billion will go to education to improve the schools and to get better pay for the teachers to keep them from leaving. to pay for that increase in school funding, property taxes are going to go up. his budget also calls for 110

layoffs of county employees and five furlough days without pay for most of the county's more than 6,000 employees. this budget has to be approved by the cy council by the 1st of june. today a fraternity is working to expel one of its fraternity brothers after someone discovered his racist sexist e-mail. it referenced sexual assault and contained slurs. it was just brought to the university's attention this week. now it launched an intense discussion on campus. >> to still be acting like this toward women, i just thought we had progressed so much. >> i have no clue why they would do something like that. i don't see anyone else here having that experience or even myself. i've not experienced anything like that. >> the fraternity already suspended the person who wrote the e-mail.

and the university could have its own disciplinary action. now it's considering sues the school. a alpha epsilon have hired an attorney who say the actions of a few shouldn't tarnish the chapter's name. now they're wondering whether the students in that video are protected by the first amendment and whether they should have been expelled. also tonight tt on the secret service scandal. president obama, it was five days before the president was told that two agents crashed a white house barrier. the agency's new director has only been on the job for one week but as nbc news' kristen welker shows us lawmakers are already questioning his leadership. >> reporter: it took five days for president obama to be told that t top secret service agents mark connolly and george ogilvy allegedly drove into an active bomb investigation

pleaded guilty to two federal charges. he'll be sentenced in june. kristen welker, nbc news the white house. new tonight we're getting incredible video of a police officer clinging to the hood of a speeding car in china. the officer pulled the car over as part of a routine traffic stop but the driver decided to take off, bringing the officer with him. he held on for nearly half a mile before another police car got him to pull over. the officer did suffer some injuries to his legs. a popular ice cream linked to a deadly illness, why blue bell is being pulled from store shelves. tonight d.c. police release video from a body cam moments before an alleged assault. i'm shomari stone. i'll have that story all new at 11:00. almt time to

a popular ice cream is being recalled after it was linked to three deaths in a kansas hospital. patients at the hospital who ate blue bell products were infected with the listeria bacteria according to the fda. the bacteria has also been found at the company's main factory in texas. blue bell has stopped producing and distributing the products and the company has taken them out of stores. this recall does not affect blue bell's pints, cups or half gallons. listeria is a rare but a serious illness that causes fever, muscle aches and stomach problems. for a complete list of these products on the recall go to our nbc washington app and search blue bell. fake a look at this video

from a police officer's body camera. it shows a driver moments before police say he tried to run the officer over. and tonight news 4's shomari stone shows us why that video could be the key to making an arrest. >> r take a close look at this video taken from a d.c. police officer's body camera. moments before an alleged assault on the officer. investigators tell us he stopped the car because it was suspicious and he wanted to question the people inside on the 3500 block of 22nd street southeast on wednesday. there is no audio on the video. the officer puts his hand on the side view mirror and then you can see the man reverse. police say once the video goes to black, the driver almost hits the officer with his car. he crashed into a yard and then allegedly tried to hit the officer again. he hit the police officer's car and kept on going. police hope the body camera video helps catch the driver. tonight, cathy lanier released a written statement

is around a huge event this weekend. >> the rock 'n' roll marathon remember metro starts running two hours early, 5:00 a.m. closest stop the start line will be federal triangle smithsonian or archives. >> with that marathon coming to d.c. tomorrow morning, some road closures as well. over 25,000 runners be taking part in this race which stretches from the downtown area to adams morgan then south across the anacostia river. some d.c. streets are closing at midnight. and they won't reopen until 2:00 or 3:00 in the afternoon tomorrow. so you can keep track of all of these road closures and navigate yourself around that and the metro changes in the palm of your hand. use our nbcwashington app and search "marathon." they'll have soggy sneakers tomorrow. >> boy, will they ever. most of the run really is looking wet, starting early tomorrow morning for anything outdoors really. but you're right. some very wet sneakers big puddles, all of it as we watch the rain on storm team 4 radar.

again from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. tomorrow. there's your weather front. it is back to the west. it doesn't come through our area until late tomorrow afternoon or evening. you can see the line there, that's the clouds. 11:00 p.m. when we'll start clearing out and the wind will start picking up. in terms of rain chances, soggy at times, still early, there's 6:00 a.m. 9:00 a.m. 80% chance. by the time we get to lunchtime we'll start to see the chance drop off, 3:00 4:00 6:00 tomorrow. not as big of a threat for seeing the rain move through. yo visible at 6:00 a.m. down to about a mile. but we improve to three miles visibility by 10:00 a.m. puddles likely some soggy times early on. the afternoon 62 to about 67 degrees for a high temperature. really not bad considering that it is going to be wet out there. we'll see the mercury rise to the mid-50s by lunch time.

well the terps always seem to make it interesting, but somehow they find a way to come out on top. >> even in xwams they should have blowout wins in they somehow make it a close game. they've done it all season long and come out on top. sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. this season for maryland they've been a little bit of both. winning close game after close game all season long. the terps a perfect 10-0 in games decided by six points or less. but unlike a lot of teams in the country, maryland has two players more than capable of closing out close games. if you don't have a specialized handshake aboutwith one of your teammates, you're probably not a very good player. jake lehman he's a good player. so is this guy. that's des wells with the monster jam. terps led by two at halftime. trimbell knocking down the three. someone didn't read their scouting report. you can't leave that guy wide open. maryland up four.

the hoosiers are coming back. that's troy williams knocking down a throw of his own. it's back to being a one-point game. later in the half the closer. tough bucket gets it to fall. a game high 22 points. maryland moves on with the victory, 75-69. to greensboro acc fans virginia taking on north carolina in the semifinals. cavs down four in the second half. malcolm brogden pulls up and knocks it down. brogden had 25. virginia's down just one. under a minute to play. stone-point game. unc with the lead. marcus page gets that to fall. the tar heels are up three. page had 14 for the game. under nine seconds remaining, virginia's down five. he makes this three. north carolina closing out the game on free throws. they pull out the upset over third ranked virginia. unc advances to the acc finals.
