t. i have been talking about the winds all morning. the national weather service issued a wind advisory for counties west of the d.c. metro area until 6:00 p.m. tonight. this includes washington county in maryland. frederick county in virginia clark counties as well. everybody in the brownish color under the wind advisory until 6:00 p.m. that means gusts could be up to 40 miles an hour at times. winds not as strong outside the advisory but you are noticing them. windy throughout the day, breezy at times. winds dying around sunset this evening. temperatures right now, 40s and 50s. 51 is the current temperature in washington. plenty of cloudiness on the satellite radar image. it's not an overcast day for the entire day. 10:00 a.m. plenty of clouds for us seeing the cloud cover. after that the clouds break up. we have plenty of sunshine as we get into the mid afternoon hours. coming how warm it will be today.

>> thanks. new this morning, we are working to find out why two police cruisers collided in d.c. it happened on south capitol street. derrick ward is live with video of what happened. >> reporter: this intersection is cleared now. just a few seconds ago, both vehicles were towed away. take a look. this was the scene earlier. metropolitan police say 5:45 this morning, a sedan and suv collided here at south capitol and southeast. the crash was sufficient and the air bags in the sedan were deployed. two officers were injured, but not seriously. they just cleared the scene after making all their markings and documents the crash. again, two officers injured, but not seriously. we don't know whether they were responding to an emergency call whether they had lights and sirens going. we believe these were the only two vehicles involved.

ten people have died. more than 60 are hurt. the bombings happened sometime after 4:00 a.m. our time. a group linked to the taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks. no final decision has been made leaders say the obama administration is rethinking the plans to cut the number of troops in afghanistan by the end of the year. troop levels would remain the same. they are arguing for more troops. right now, 2,000 u.s. troops are doing counterterrorism missions there. starting today, part of route 1 in alexandria will be shut down. dominion power is doing underground cable repairs. work begins at 9:00 tonight at bluemont avenue. street sweeping starts in the district tomorrow. you will have to follow the red and white parking signs or risk a $45 fine. they pushed back the start date twice so the snow could melt.

his roommate attacked him with a pair of scissors. it happened at morgan state university in baltimore. the student is expected to survive. they were arguing over how clean their room was. this morning, investigators were trying to figure out what a person was doing on the tracks when a marc train hit and killed them. it happened in baltimore county. 300 passengers on the train were transferred to an amtrak train. the name of the person who died has not been released. working to keep you and your family safe at the mall. an active duty shooting tonight at the mall in fredericksburg. it starts at 8:00. a landslide damaged homes and buildings in charleston debris to prevent flooding. they worried about further slippage when it rained. it forced several people from their homes. coming up in the week ahead,

the weather headline is the wind. amelia segal is here to tell us how it's going to feel. >> when you factor in the winds today, temperatures will feel five to ten degrees cooler than the thermometer is reading. what that means for you, there's going to be a chill in the air for the day today. you need a jacket or warm sweatshirt as you head out and about. the current temperature in washington 50 degrees. clouds and gusts at 25 miles an hour. the winds are stronger over the mountains, especially the highest elevations. that's why the national weather service issued a wind advisory. this is winchester and hagerstown. this runs until 6:00 p.m. gusts 40 to 50 miles an hour gusts outside that advisory only 30 miles an hour at times. the satellite and radar is showing plenty of clouds across the area. as we continue to work into the afternoon hours, the clouds break up as we warm to a high of 56. coming up kristin, i'll let you

know when you can expect more sunshine. >> that sounds good. thanks amelia. police are investigating a crash between two police cruisers in the district. two officers are recovering now. >> derrick ward is live where it happened in southeast d.c. you saw the cars towed away? >> reporter: yeah indeed we did. we can tell you, the crash was sufficient enough there was enough force t that the air bags deployed in one of the vehicles. look at the scene. they said it was about 5:45 when the two cars collided. one was an suv, the other a sedan. it appears the sedan was headed east on i street and that the suv may have been going south on south capitol when they crashed. again, two officers were injured. we are told not seriously. this intersection was
