then attack him with a hammer. today prince geory po announced they made three arrests in this case. his family says this is a senseless crime. and as darcy spencer shows us they still n >> reporter: gilbert greene stands at the sidewalk memorial where his grandson was stabbed to ds my best friend because we went -- i have 15 grandchildren, if you don mine me saying that. he was the one i bonded with. >> reporter: rashad clark was 18-years-old.a star on the baseball field. a good friend. a good brother. >> i jt want every to know that my little brother was a good person. you know he wasn't out here causing trouble for anybody. he's a very loving person. >> reporter: in fact relatives say he was defending a friend when he was killed. according to police clark and a group of his friends got in a fight with another group. and that's when he was stabbeded and attackeded with a hammer. according to relatives, rashad's friends decided to drive him to the hospital but unfortunately they ran out of gas and ended up at this nearby service station.

children's hospital. police are trying to figure out what led up to the accident. two d.c. police officers had to go to the hospital aft in to each other in their crudesers around 5:30 this morning near south capital and i streets. inve are looking into what happened. we're told the officers are going to be okay. the wreck only involved two police cars and it's unclear if they were responding to a call at the time. now we know why a man collapsed while singing the national anthem. he had an allergic reaction to some medication. pe easton collapsed in front of thousands of high school students and their families. he's doing okay. he's doing a lot better and should be released from the hospital tonight. he was singing the anthem at the x xfin c saturday before the gamement when fans realized what happened they finished the star spangled right where he left off -- ♪ they heard a rumbling. house started shaking. that's how some families describe a minor earthquake that hit central virginia overnight. it's one of our top trending

this rally was outside the white house, but there were others like it all over the world sunday to mark four years since the revolution started in syria. activist say president bashar al assad and islamic state militants are equally responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths in syria. secretary of s john kerr he's willing to speak with assad and broker an end to that civil war. tonight a man is in jail accused of shooting two police officers in ferguson, missouri. officials say he admits to firing his gun but says he wasn't aiming at the officers. nbc's ran allen has new details -- ron allen has new details about the suspect. allegedly fired those shots from a vehicle during what the prosecutor called "some kind of dispute. "authorities say williams has been chargeded with first-degree all is on the officers. so of he involved with the -- was he involved with the protests? >> yes. he is a demonstrator. he was out there earlier that evening as part of the demonstration. >> rep but you don think he was targeting the police? >> oh i wouldn't go that far. [ chanting] >> reporter: police called the incident an ambush as protesters gather after t resignation of ferguson's police chief to demand even more sweeping reforms. all stemming from a justice depa report that accuse the police and court of widespread discrimination. since the incident, an uneasy truce. police a protesters keeping their distance. with the community worried about more violence and confrontation. >> i'm asking all the protesters the wrong reason to stay out of our city.

tonight, a new twist in the case of a real estate heir accuse of more. robert durst is the focus of the hbo series "the jinx." on the last episode tonight he seems to confess. durst is suspected in the disappearance of his wife and the murder of his close friend susan berman. during the episode, the mike catches him whispering to himself, "what did i do? kill them all, of course." on sudden police arrested durst for berman's murder. for the millions of people with high cholesterol, a new class of drugs could be a medical breakthrough. and it might just cut the rick of heart attack and strokes -- risk of heart attacks and strokes. the new came out of a cardiologist conference in san o today. in participants who took the experimental drugs, they had half the risk of dying compared to people on typical statin drugs. they could harm thinking and memory functions. and the fda will decide by summer if they'll allow these drugs to go on the market. tonight former georgetown

coach john thompson jr. is recovering fro intestinal surgery. the university announced this weekend that he had the procedure within the past two weeks. the statement says he had corrective surgery for a benign twisted intestine. his recovery is going well although he won't be able to travel for those march madness games. thompson is a hall of famer who led the hoyas to the national title in 1984. selection sunday of course is here. did your favorite team make the big dance? dianna russini with reaction from some local teams. >> reporter: maryland vcu, georgetown and uva are also dancing. march madness officially begins. head coach mark turgeon had the entire team over at his house today to watch the selection show. terps' reaction -- not as exciting, you see there. that's because maryland was hoping for a higher seed after a 27-win season. maryland takes on valpariaso in

[ crashing sounds ] some seriously strong winds tore scaffolding right off a skyscraper today in portland oregon. that sent the heavy debris falling on to the streets below. witnesses were shocked and had to run for cover. luckily no one was hurt there. whoa! >> wow. that hot rod was going 280 miles per hour when it crashed. somehow, the driver walked away. larry dixon has s a three-time national hotrod association champion. but his car went airborne today in gainesville, florida, and ac split in half before crashing into a wall. emergency crews checked him out.

news4. tonight, police investigating a case of vandalism at a school in silver spring. soe smashed the windows of several portable classrooms at highland view elementary. they think the suspects are children who iran away when the schoo ran away when the school alarms went off. no word on how much damage they caused. a virginia state lawmaker accused in a sex scandal with a minor has confirmed that she has begin birth to a baby boy. delegate joe morrissey told "the richmond times dispatch" he was there for the birth but did not admit to being the father. the minor is now 19. morrissey is 57. he's accused of having sex with her and exchanging explicit photos as well. he just completed a jail term last week but faces other charges related to that case. a game of musical chairs is breaking out in maryland. state delegate is running for the fourth district's congressional seat. today democrat jocelyn pena melnick said she'll run for the job representative donna edwards
