virginia becomes a crime scene. the body found in the woods and what police say they found on the victim. and athletes from a maryland university suspended. tonight the serious threats they're accused of making against their own teammates. news 4 at 11:00 starts now. >> at the top tonight, police say a random attempted robbery has critically injured a man. >> that victim was shot on piney branch road near dale drive. shomari stone talked to people in the area tonight. he joins us live from the scene as police search for the shooter. shomari? >> reporter: good evening. that's right. i talked to people out here and they are concerned especially when they find out police say this was a random act of violence. i'm here at piney branch road and dale drive behind me. you can see montgomery county police have blocked this area and drivers are turning around. so you can't come through this area to get to silver spring. over there there are road

flares. if you move a little to the right, that's the intersection where the victim's clothes are located. you'll see them moments from now. a lot of folks are trying to figure out exactly what happened out here. let's roll some video. police say this all started when a man and a friend were walking on piney branch road towards dale drive. suddenly a man crept up from behind. tried to rob the men and fired at least one shot hitting one of them. the gunman ran away. police say this was an attempted robbery, although they haven't told us if the suspect stole anything from the men. now, medics rushed the man to a hospital in critical condition. we're now going to hear from mobt gomry county police. >> we believe at this time that it is random. we have a witness who was with the victim at the time who has been able to provide us some information about the suspect and what occurred here tonight. >> reporter: now, police as you heard, are talking to the friend of the victim. meanwhile, they urge anyone with information, if you know who is

responsible for this shooting call the montgomery county police department. live in silver spring i'm shomari stone, news 4. thanks shomari. now to a story that has women in three d.c. neighborhoods concerned about their privacy. a state department worker already charged with soliciting a minor for sex is now facing charges of secretly spying on women through their windows. police say the crimes happened in adams morgan u street and mt. pleasant. darcy spencer has details. >> reporter: yeah we're told that the suspect used his cell phone to secretly record these women, many women here in the neighborhood tonight told me they're concerned that they too, could be victims. >> close the curtains and constantly look around to see who is around you. >> reporter: residents in this mt. pleasant neighborhood are alarmed after one of their neighbors was charged with secretly recordi homes. >> not to feel safe in your own neighborhood is not good.

it's not a good feeling. and i just hope i'm not one of the women that he videotaped. >> reporter: that neighbor daniel rosen is a state department counterterrorism official. he's accused of recording two dozen women through their bedroom and bathroom windows. >> i guess i, of course wonder if i'm one of the women. let's hope not. and it's gross and scary and upsetting. >> reporter: police have recovered 40 videos depicting at least 24 victims. so far only two have been identified. >> if you've had some kind of suspicious behavior and you live in one of these neighborhoods, let us know. we'll commute and talk to you. >> reporter: rosen would patrol the streets in his neighborhood as well as adams morgan and u street looking for victims. documents show he would walk through the alleys holding his cell phone up to windows, videoing women who were nude and partially clothed. >> the videos appear to have been taken through curtains and shades that were drawn. >> reporter: perhaps he did not look suspicious.

records suggest he may have been walking his dog at the time. the videos were discovered after he was arrested in fairfax county for allegedly trying inging to arrange to have sex with a detective who was posing as a 14-year-old girl. in court rosen pleaded not guilty to stalking and voyeurism charges. he was released to home confinement confinement. police are looking for clues to a suspicious death near herndon. fairfax county police officers were called to a wooded area folly lick stream at hiddenbrook drive. they found a man's body. chopper 4 flew over the area as workers worked the scene. he appeared to have trauma to his upper body. people said they couldn't believe a body was found in their neighborhoods. >> very hard to believe that. i mean it's just a path that you see kids taking people with their pets elders young, so

it's not some weird neighborhood. >> police are trying to identify the victim now. the medical examiner will determine the exact cause of death. new at 11:00 tonight, a search for a pair of armed robbers in the district. two people ran into a store pointing their guns on saturday around 5:00 a.m. this happened at this store in the 3900 block of martin luther king avenue southwest. if you have any information, d.c. police would like to hear from you. the reward is up to $10,000. knowing your neighbors is one of the best ways to help keep crime out of your community. that was the message at a neighborhood watch crime prevention training session at the fourth district police station on georgia avenue northwest tonight. organizers say a vast majority of the crime in the district is preventable. and if you know the people in your neighborhood you're more likely to stop a crime before it ever happens. >> 80% of d.c. crime is preventable. it's called the crime of opportunity. and that means that we create an

sunday morning and it fell on top of him in harper's ferry in washington county. an ambulance volunteer said that tree was known as a potential hazard and was scheduled to be cut down. the head of the secret service will have a closed door briefing on capitol hill tomorrow with two lawmakers over the latest mcisconduct allegations facing the agency. two agents crashed into a security barrier after drinking at a d.c. bar. the agents were sent home and not arrested. director joseph clancy will brief congressman joseph chaffetz chairman of the oversight and reform committee and ranking maryland congress member elijah cummings. after five years running the nation's largest u.s. attorney's office ron machen is calling it quits.

baltimore county have been suspended indefinitely for sending threatening text messages to their teammates. investigators say the threats were made over a private chat room called groupme. and were directed at freshmen players on the team. one message said quote, can we just kill them? the athletic director says steps have been taken to protect those who are involved. the suspended players released this apology tonight saying quote, our hurtful, destructive words and tone are absolutely inexcusable on many levels. our stance was utterly inappropriate and we are deeply sorry to the many we negatively impacted. >> he was the target of this vicious attack in prince william county. tomorrow the 16-year-old will head back to school but tonight his mother is speaking to news 4 in hopes of finding who is responsible. the boy was attacked outside a dale city boys and girls club late saturday. his mother says the scene, who punched him first, asked if her

police officer's funeral. two dozen fellow officers jumped into action to lift and move a car that was blocking the funeral procession route. the men in blue say they didn't want officer robert wilson's family to deal with any other stress. wilson was shot in the head during an armed robbery. new york city real estate heir robert durst was charged tonight with murder. durst was the focus of an hbo documentary "the jinx" that concluded last night with a startling revelation. take a listen. >> kill them all, of course. >> that was durst off camera saying he killed three people. he'd gone to the bathroom and apparently forgotten he had the mike on. durst was charged today with the 200 murder of a friend. police arrested him saturday in new orleans. the six-part hbo documentary looks at accusation he killed at least three people over a 20-year period. >> i am totally thrilled.

southwest. unbelievable day today. radar is showing rain up towards baltimore and i-95. if you're driving up i-95 all you see is a couple of sprinkles. it's not much rain. but you can see the rain coming from northwest to southeast. that's actually a warm front. that warm front is moving on through the area. so tomorrow we're going to start off on the warm side of things. very warm as a matter of fact early tomorrow but nen the cold front will sweep through late in the day. that cold front towards the great lakes, that will sweep on through. as it does so that's when we'll start to see things really change. the high temperatures tomorrow 68 d.c. 71 down towards fredericksburg. 57 in hagerstown. you will see the cooler air there first. 69 la plata. you say that's a nice warm day, but, but the winds are going to kick up and temperatures will fall during the day. 55 at 9:00 a.m. still pretty good about noon winds could gust 20 to 30 miles per hour tomorrow.
