so welcome back to the cold pattern, everybody. sunshine and pretty steady breeze all day today. overall weather impact will be fairly low, but you will absolutely need your warm coat once again and your sunglasses for the ride in and home today. current temperatures are only in the upper 20s and low 30s right now with windchills mostly in the 20s. so a cold one for sure. hur by hour 20s to near 30 how. only up to near about 50 for a high today, but at least the sun will be shining. developing right now in maryland state police are working to find out why a man was on i-270 when he was hit and killed this morning. meg ap mc megan mcgrath is there. >> reporter: a tractor trarl hit the man. the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police. the pedestrian died though and the question is what was this

man doing in the middle of the road. he was actually in a lachb traffic on southbound 270 by father hurley exit. traffic has gotten back to normal here. all of the lanes are open. but still police are trying to figure out exactly what happened why this man was in the roadway. now, this happened around 1:30 this morning. we're told that the pedestrian was in the third lane of traffic. there was a car that was nearby about 100 or so feet away but we're told that that car was not registered to the man who was killed. so it's unclear whether or not he was in any way associated with that car, whether there was a breakdown and that's why he had ended up on the roadway. they're still trying to piece all of that together. if you were driving southbound on 270 at this point, your commute will be okay. all of the lanes are open. with more on traffic tieups this morning, we'll send it over to melissa. overall pretty good right now. as you're saying taking a look at 270, megan in the germantown

back with a so-called presumptive positive result for cyanide. we're also learning the secret service is familiar with the return address on that letter. they say other suspicious packages have come from the same address. this morning police are trying to determine who shot a 6-year-old girl in the district. we called police overnight, they say it's still an open investigation. the shooting happened last night near 22nd street and a van made street in southeast. police say the girl was shot in the happened. but is expected to be okay. d.c. police are asking for your help to locate a missing boy. we just receive hd foethis photo. demetrius brown is 48'8", last seen in a green shirt and khaki pants. he also had on tan boots and blue hoodie. police want you to call 19911 if you have any information. a man's body found has been ruled a homicide. william lava's body was found in

the god of a second chance ministry. he was a pastor at the church in southeast d.c.. the investigation against best began on saturday when another girl at the church said she was sexually assaulted when she was 16. i'm angie goff at the live desk looking ahead national fraternity calls for action against racial intolerance. sigma alpha epsilon which has been under fire because of this chant caught on camera will announce a national plan today after completing a review of its chapters nationwide. that's in response to the raceis chant which suggested black people would they ever get into their fraternity. the chapter has been shut down. and kappa delta rho fraternity has been suspended, a former fraternity brother tipped them off to a facebook page that included pictures of naked women, drug deals and hazing rituals. it was a members only

fraternity for a year at penn state. the national headquarters is also investigating. this morning three football players at morgan state university are recovering after being stabbed. this happened yesterday afternoon outside of the dining hall on the campus in baltimore. police officials say they were stabbed by someone swinging a knife wildly. a suspect was taken into custody. all three victims were taken to the hospital. they are expected to be okay. will this is this is the third outbreak of violence in less than a puig. on week. on friday a male student was stabbed with scissors by his roommate. early saturday, a party was broken up. police in stockton, california searching for the person who gunned down seven people outside a grocery store. three people including two women died. the other four victims are expected to make full recoveries. police say they believe the shooting is gang related. it is now 5:18.

afternoon run take may need an extra layer or two. maybe you need leg warmers, as well first thing this morning. spring fling is done. we just yesterday made ten days in a row with temperatures at the or above average. no such luck for the next seven to ten days. every day will be at or below average. 36 right now with a 29 degree windchill. we will warm up slowly but steadily today up to about 43 by lunchtime. and highs today up near 50 between 4:00 and 5:00 this afternoon. so it won't be a bad kay to be outside. you'll just need to put on the layers that we had a couple weeks ago. 49 today in franconia. 33 by tomorrow morning. tomorrow a little improvement up into the 50s. but more weather changes coming our way by friday morning. so have your weather app ready to go. cold air and moisture out to our west coming in our direction. and we will have a chance for wet snowflakes friday morning.

so just breezy and cold today. tomorrow an even colder start. less wind, but a little bit warmer with highs back in to the 50s. and if future weather here check it out, clouds come back in thursday night and by 5:00 a.m. friday morning, a chance for wet snowflakes and chilly rain by friday afternoon. doesn't look like any major accumulations, but i couldn't rule out a slushy inch or two especially in northern maryland. "7-day forecast" time, 50s today and tomorrow rain/snow friday, dry both days this weekend. saturday will be the warmest day out of the next seven or ten, but don't get used to it because more cold air comes in sunday monday and tuesday. overall looking pretty good this morning. blue and yellow delays still in both directions however we're no longer single tracking. so that of course is an improvement. eastbound montgomery village avenue at 355, right lane blocked for emergency road work.

macaroni and cheese dinner as some boxes may contain small pieces of metal. this is the company's second recall in the past six months. and it affects 7 ounce packs of original flavor mac and cheese with a best used by date of september 18th to october 11th of this year. kraft says it's received eight customer complaints and the company says you should return the product to the store you bought it from for a full refund. so make sure you are checking that date. and american express is launching a customer loyalty program this spring called plenty. it allows customers to earn points by making purchases at seven companies including macy's at&t rite aid and exxon moebl. so you can use points from paying your at&t bill to make purchases at rite aid. back to you. >> thank you landon dowdy. a developing story out of switzerland. investigators on the scene of a deadly train accident. what we know at this point is that it involved two construction trains one in a

rear ended another one. this accident leaving at least one person dead several others injured. the good news is there were no passenger trains involved but one very busy track has been closed off. today is national kick butts day. all about preventing tobacco use by teens. more than 2,000 events are being held across the country to raise awareness awareness. alexandria mayor will kick off a 3:30 p.m. event at tc williams high school. several students will help emcee the program. we're watching a developing story in montgomery county where investigators are trying to figure out why a man was walking along i-270 when he was struck and killed by a truck. megan mcgrath is at the scene, she'll join us live with what troopers are telling her about the accident. >> live look outside. 37 degrees outside our studios

traffic is once again moving on i-270 after a man is killed while walking along the highway overnight. back to bundling up. we're seeing blustery winds outside. making it feel like winter has returned. meteorologist chuck bell here with your what to wear forecast. >> good morning. yeah the weather will have an impact on your day today, but mostly just from a bundle up factor. it will be breezy and chilly but plenty of sunshine. so wear the winter coat. sunglasses too, for later on today. once we get the sun up. current temperatures are below freezing in many of our western and northern suburbs right now. still a little above freezing downtown and in to parts of prince george's county. later on this away, 1fternoon near 50 for a high. so that will be a 23 degree drop from yesterday's high
