she planned to come today after a painful court hearing detailed exactly how her son was shot and killed. for this mother losing her 16-year-old son brenden wilson has been hard enough. today she learned details of how the woodbridge student was shot to death last november 10th. >> i was shocked. >> reporter: this large memorial now sits alongside the path to woodbridge high school where wilson's body was found. five suspects have been arrested in connection with his death. most of them teenagers. at the preliminary hearing for the alleged triggerman kawain smalls -- >> did the defendant admit he shot mr. wilson? the detective, yes, he did. there had been a dispute between wilson and the defendant's brother. they asked two of his sub

languages to help ambush and rob wilson. his sister lured wilson there saying she wanted to buy some pot. he ran up from behoond and placed a gun in the small of his back and fired several shots into the teen's back. when he started shooting brenden wilson fell to the grond, testified the detective. for the last shot he moved the body over and fired into his head. >> to treat him like a dead animal. >> and shot him again? >> yeah shot him again. >> reporter: the victim's mother foond finds some comfort and encouraging words in a facebook memorial for her son and the judge found enough evidence to send the case forward to a grand jury. >> i'm glad they caught everybody. >> reporter: brenden wilson's mom has been comforted by

another woodbridge mother whose son was shot and killed 13 years ago. she's going to soon be starting a support group, in fact tonight, for other mothers who have lost children. for now, i'm julie carey, news 4. trains are rolling again at the greenbelt station. we sent out a breaking news alert to your phone today when the busy station was forced to close this afternoon. a woman was hit by a train as it entered the station. no word yet on her condition. this video showing buses shuttling passengers between the greenbelt and college park stops. alcohol may have played a role in a crash that killed a pedestrian overnight. a driver was heading near farth hrley boulevard when he spotted a black suv on the shoulder. he saw a man walking in traffic. the truck driver told state

police he couldn't stop in time. the black suv was still running on the side of the road and police smelled alcohol coming from inside it. a problem with the d.c. police department's computer system is forcing local prosecutors to review thousands of criminal cases. and it has defense attorneys tonight questioning if innocent people have been sent to prison. mark segraves live with what we're learning. >> reporter: jim, this is the letter that's sent shockwaves through the district a criminal justice system. first reported by the washington city paper that the u.s. attorney sent defense attorneys here this letter saying that they may not have provided defense attorneys all the evidence that they are required to. and that is calling into question thousands of criminal cases. >> and there's people locked up that may be shouldn't be locked up or worse, maybe people that got convicted and shouldn't be in prison. that's the scary thing.

>> reporter: longtime criminal defense attorney bernie grimm is one of hundreds of dollars who got the letter acknowledging a significant problem with the data management system used by d.c. police. in the letter he says his office is reviewing thousands of cases, including past kwuctions. the problem, some information was not given to prosecutors or defense attorneys. that could mean some defendants didn't get fair trials. >> the d.c. jail and prisons where people are locked up. everybody got this letter. everybody is saying it happened in my case. probably didn't but we don't know. >> reporter: the d.c. police chief declined to answer any questions but issued statements. a spokesperson writes mpd has updated printed reports and created additional reports to ensure that all information captured in the system is reflected on these hard assisting

the prosecutors by providing data in different formats to speed the review. a spokesperson for the u.s. attorney issued this statement -- we're working closely with the police department to resolve this issue and move forward wither shared goal of making sure innocent are not wrongly prosecuted and the criminals are rightly held akontableakont able able for their actions. the problems could date back to late 2011. >> someone dropped the ball and no one realized it was dropped. there's no check and balance. i don't know how this went on so long and no one picked it up. >> reporter: sofar no convictions have been overturned or even called into question. but the review just began this weekend. they still have thousands of cases to go through. coming up at 6:00 why this isn't the first time police have had problems with this data system and what this is going to

mean for taxpayers. new video of an armed robbery in our newsroom. it shows two guys holding up a gas station convenience store on sunday at livington road and ft. washington road in prince george's county. one of the robbers struck that cashier. he was not seriously injured but they aren't sure if this is connected to another robbery of a convenience store that happened just up the road earlier this month. two people also seen holding up a cashier an alnton road march 7th. and no one has been arrested. a suspicious letter addressed to the white house will under go a third round of testing to determine if it contains cyanide. the initial testing showed a negative result but a second chemical test completed just yesterday returned a presumptive positive for cyanide. it was flagged at the white house mail screening facility on monday. five public appearances in

first to walk they'll turn corners anding over everything around here. >> reporter: for now, deep breath and everybody try to share this space. back at the intersection of doom. all the safety changes, what are they doing to the collisions here. we'll have the numbers coming at 6:00. back to you jim. a baltimore ravens player has been charged with drunk driving and speeding. running back bernard pierce is cooperating after being stopped on 695. it was about 2:00 in the morning when he was pulled over. he was going 55 in a 30-mile-per-hour zone and allegedly failed a series of field sobriety tests. pierce has been released now. a ravens spokesman says the team takes these matters very seriously. they are aware of the situation and learning more about it. a break in a money mystery at union station.

a passenger aboard an amtrak train made a shocking discovery in a backpack. scott is in the newsroom to tell us what happened. >> reporter: details ss just obtained. a man grabbed a backpack. looked like his, felt like his, but it want his. when he opened it he found $17,000 in cash in it. he didn't keep the money, didn't spend the money but called police who turned it over to the drug enforcement agency. the feds followed the money north to peter rodriguez. he was on the train, too. rodriguez denied there was money in his bag. his mom later called and reported it was her money and her partner's money that they'd sold mink coats and raised the cash to buy a car and travelled to north carolina to visit peter

with the money. they mistakenly left it behind and told him to bring it back without saying there was cash inside. no one has come to claim the money so the dea has it here in d.c. indefinitely and they'll not reveal the name of that good samaritan. new security improvements in norfolk after a delivery driver shot and killed a sailor an that naval base last year. additional guards are required at all the piers to control the entry points. the navy is repairing its cameras and guards are using the same frequency. plans to install physical entrances and increase personnel on watch teams. jurors took a look at the two pipe bombs thrown at police as dzhokhar tsarnaev and his

brother tried to flee in the days after the 2013 deadly attack. the bombs were filled with bbs. jurors also saw a plastic container filled with plastic. tsarnaev could get the death penalty if convicted. a local museum is featuring objects from the boston bombings. it launched a domestic violence and hate crimes exhibit. rubble from the september 11th attacks and a ku klux klan robe will also be on display. they hope the exhibit will raise awareness and change behavior for the better. a fraternity whose members were part of a racist chant unveils a plan to fight intolerance. the video shows them shouting a

hospital quickly. today several ambulances some with sirens blaring are visible in the area of fourth street and rhode island avenue in northeast. an injured d.c. police officer could not get an ambulance to take him to the hospital yesterday, despite repeated requests. the first call cam in as officer down near a liquor store around 6:30. he was hurt during an arrest. a fire truck came in minutes, no medic on board. the officer had a traumatic leg jury. then an ambulance was requested five times according to those call records. after waiting 30 minutes for help police decide to drive the officer to the hospital in a police car. "we're looking into it. we had units on the scene but no

indication that an ambulance had arrived. we're trying to determine why that happened." a spokesperson described the officer's officer's injuries as minor. tonight at 6:00 we'll give you the timeline and show you what it shows about the attempts to get the officer an ambulance. he admittedassaulting a woman inside a park. a judge sentenced him to 3 1/2 years in prison with ten years of supervised release. last year his suspect got off a bus and wallace dragged her by her hair into the woods where he sexually assaulted her. she was able to describe a tattoo on his hand. a teen charged with

attacking his neighbors with a knife. this happened in new bern north carolina. they saw the 18-year-old suspect holding a machete-style knife and arrested hum eded him. three young brothers were all stabbed to death. the mother and sister were taken to the hospital with less serious injuries. a former air force mechanic has plead not guilty to trying to join isis. nathan webster pugh just appeared in court. pugh was stopped at a turkish airport in january where he had a laptop full of information describing ways to cross into syria. pugh served in the u.s. for four years in the late '80s and '90s. police are investigating the multiple death threats made to caroline kennedy. the calls were made to the u.s.

from the governor terry mcauliffe. the photo we have to show you is fairly graphic. it shows a student with his face bloodied as he was being held down by an officer. gary mcauliffe wants an investigation into this. this student was charged with public swearing and intoxication. also an alcoholic beverage control agent made the arrest though we do not know if he's the one whose face we blurred in this photo. a group claims the arrest was unprovoked. a statement from the governor's office says he is also concerned that they will continue to monitor this investigation into the use of force in this incident. a scammer who targeted a pregnant woman in colorado seemed to have a change of heart.
