a father who witnessed a van hit and kill his little girl. and a box of grenade brought to a d.c. police station tonight. it took less than 24 hours for this arrest to get national attention after a photo of a bloodied university of virginia student went viral. >> yeah. now the investigation is growing into what happened to martese johnson. news4 is live in charlottesville. what have you been seeing there in town? >> reporter: chris and doreen in the past hour we've seen large groups of students marching up and down this street which is known as the corner here in charlottesville. they are shouting for justice and tonight the uva president is calling on any student who may have witnessed martese johnson's arrest to come forward. we want to warn you, the details of this story, tough to listen

to. the images though even more difficult to see. >> no justice! >> reporter: dozens crying out for justice on charlottesville corner. the image is tough to look at. that's uva student martese johnson being cuffed by a virginia alcohol control agent. they detained the 20-year-old after the pub would not let him in. they say that martese became violent and belligerent. >> thank god martese was able to stand here today. >> reporter: he joined his classmates at a peaceful protest and wiped tears from his eyes. >> thank you. >> i thought about how this poor man's mother would feel when she saw that photo because i knew how it made me feel. >> reporter: uva president teresa miller also in the crowd demanding an investigation.

has an elderly woman fighting for her life tonight. chopper 4 flew over frederick road right over clarksville high school after a vehicle hit the woman. no word on any charges against the driver who stayed on the scene. fire and rescue officials say the woman's injuries are life threatening. also new tonight, someone brought a boxful of grenades to a police station in d.c. the concerned resident found them and took them to the 1st district substation. they determined it was safe. tonight, the family of this little girl has returned to the scene where she was hit and killed. shomari stone is live. ♪ this little light of mine ♪ ♪ i'm going to let it shine ♪

this could be in a few minutes. tonight we're learning new details about a deadly shooting spree in mesa arizona. the suspect's name is ryan giroux who served three stints of prison since 1994. he's been charged of burglary theft and aggravated assault and a pot violation. one person is dead and five others were hurt. an arrest tonight in the stabbing of three morgan state university football players. 19-year-old carlos mars has been charged in the case. the stabbing happened on tuesday after a fight broke out between two groups of students. in charging documents, it's stated that mars repeatedly stabbed the student in the chest but he was trying to keep people away from his friend. an injured d.c. police officer needed an ambulance and despite repeated requests it never came.

the officer was hurt while making an arrest yesterday near fourth and rhode island northeast. a fire truck came in minutes but according to dispatch records, there was no medic on the fire truck. fellow officers on the scene reported the officer had a traumatic leg injury and requested a d.c. fire and ambulance five times. after waiting, they drove the officer to the hospital in a police car. a d.c. spokesman says they are trying to figure out what happened. in the course of duty police officers in maryland have killed more than 100 people over the past five years. a majority of them were black. 69%. the american civil liberties union put out a report based on research from 2010 to 2014. police were criminally charged in 2% of those cases. the aclu says there's no formal system to track deaths involved in the state but maryland's general assembly is considering bills that address police accountability.

also new tonight, a search in montgomery county for this man. police say he's been fraudulently using somebody's credit card but he didn't steal the card. rather he cloned it likely by using an atm skimmer at some point. cameras caught the man using the cloned card at a store in bethesda. if you have any information, call the police. we've learned new details in the death of a local high school student from testimony that brought his mother to tears today. it came during a preliminary hearing. he's accused of shooting a high school student, brendan wilson back in november along the path known as "the cut." a detective says smalls admitted they lured him into the cut after they had a dispute with him. smalls reported that he kept firing in while son's body even after the first shot left him motionless on the ground. >> undescribable. i don't know how many times he was shot.

he kicked him like a dead animal. treated him like a dead animal. >> an indictment for smalls is expected early next month. dozens of people were killed in an attack in tunisia and some of them were cruise ship passengers. this happened outside of the national museum. an italian cruise ship is docked there and 14 passengers have not returned to their ship. the prime minister says most of those killed were foreign tourists. a u.s. navy s.e.a.l. was killed today when his parachute malfunctioned during a training exercise in southern california. military officials say the victim jumped with a group of other s.e.a.l.s in a remote training area. the s.e.a.l. team draped him with an american flag as he was being taken from the scene. there is an investigation underway about why the parachute malfunctioned. how gps led police to a murder victim's body in

carroll county yesterday. she was 26 years old and had a 2-month-old baby with her husband kyle crosby. he's charged in the murder. and a 7-year-old daughter from a previous relationship. investigators say the gps device in crosby's car is what led them to the body. american university is taking on yik-yak. racial postings are threatening to divide the campus. tonight jackie benson is getting reaction from the students. >> reporter: what did it say in that's what you had students say after receiving this e-mail. it says, "the au community is deeply offended by racist posts on yik yak." few students are exactly aware of what the offensive posts said.

the critical time is 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. guess what time that is. it's chilly but not bad. 47 degrees. windchill, 45. we're not dealing with much of a windchill this evening. 47 in d.c. notice a lot cooler towards the west. manassas hit 32 degrees. temperatures at or below freezing in some areas well above freezing in winchester still above 40 degrees. nothing on the radar right now. you can see we have clouds trying to stream in. these clouds are all coming from the west and they are coming from our next storm system. we will see a lot of cloudiness tomorrow. our next storm makes its way very slowly and will be here right on our doorstep by this time tomorrow night. let's take a look at the future weather. 8:00 a.m. some clouds and sunshine early in the day. the clouds really roll in and will stay on the cool side. temperatures very similar to

where they are today. a couple of degrees cooler due to the fact that we will see more cloud cover. 11:00 on thursday the rain is trying to move in from the south. we're still dry. all day tomorrow we'll be dry. we stay dry through 4:00 a.m. on friday and then well here it comes. 6:00 a.m. notice the snow. most of the entire area of northern virginia covered in snow. up towards most of maryland. a little bit of rain eastward. again, by 9:00 everybody is in that snow and really it's going to be the heaviest i think, between around 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. in the d.c. metro area. once again, it coincides with the morning rush. this is something that we're going to have to watch very closely. watch that rain/snow line move to the north. we'll see that transition in the d.c. metro area around noon and with that any snow that fell, should quickly melt. now, how much? this is still the first call here. we're going to make a revision on this early tomorrow morning.

right now, 1:00 to 2:00 d.c. annapolis, fredericksburg this is on the grassy surfaces. i don't think the roads should be all that bad. rockville, maybe 2 to 3 and then 3 plus here. the plus may be up to 4. that's really about it. winchester and up towards the frederick area, an event to the north, moderate impact in leesburg over towards the gaithersburg area this is the area to watch for early friday morning for any of those delays. again, d.c. metro area the roads are okay. 39 for friday. 60 on saturday. nice right? we go right back down into the 40s. temperatures are 10 degrees below average as you move through sunday monday and tuesday. starting off with the first week of spring on the chilly side. but, hey, it's been chilly for, i don't know, years now. >> that's what it feels like. >> great time to be in the car wash business isn't it? >> yeah, no kidding.
