an on 30s for your outdoor plans first thing this morning. highs later on this afternoon should be able to make it up into the low 50s across most of the area. how much snow is possible tomorrow? i think a slushy inch or two. a little bit more across northern maryland. right now 270 in and out of town looking quite good. no major issues. had earlier problems that are now cleared out of the way. 66 just east of sully road no major issues. we're getting a little bit of volume, but that is typical as we're now in the 6:00 hour this morning. 95 northbound here dale city, you can see we're a little slow again very normal for this time of day. no major issues right there. it will look like a typical commute northbound out of prince william county. beltway at st. barnabas, flowing quite nicely. and taking a look the crash in

gaithersburg perry parkway at north frederick road, right there by the fairgrounds, we still have that crash here in the middle of the roadway. looks like folks are able to get around it. travel times coming up in ten minutes. developing this morning a woman at a rally supporting a uva student who was arrest this had week was also arrested. both incidents caught on video are you now putting a spotlight on how police officers reacted. richard jordan is at the live desk following the overnight developments. >> there were about 1,000 people at that rally last night where the woman was arrested. we will show you the graphic images here, but first this is the new video in from overnight. you see the woman being forcibly removed by police officers. then put in handcuffs. we still haven't learned as to why she was taken into custody there. but she was one of the supporters for 20-year-old martese johnson who was arrested early wednesday morning outside a bar. again, he's 20.

he's underage. it is this bloody photo here that has created an uproar at uva. alcoholic beverage control officers taking johnson in to custody, pushing him down to the ground. he's being charmed with edcharged with obstruction of justice and public intoxication. johnson says he's an honor student and no legitimate reason for his arrest. and they continue to rally in his support. and uva president sullivan is calling for a full investigation of the arrest. sullivan was among the many who attended a rally last night outside a trinity irish bar. johnson himself attended that rally and thanked everyone for their support. sullivan says she's asked the governor to look in to the arrest. she's also asking students who witnessed the arrest to call police. >> i thought about how this poor man's mother would feel when she saw that photo because i know how it made me feel. >> and this morning governor mcauliffe is demanding action, his office released a statement

saying he's quote, concerned by the reports of this incident and has asked the secretary of public safety to initiate an independent virginia state police investigation into the use of force in this matter. we have a link to the arrest video on our website. nbcwashington.com. you can also weigh this on will on the nbc washington facebook page. new this morning georgetown pike is open right now after this serious crash caused a car to burst into flames. take a look at the car. it's completely ruined. several people were hurt after will hit a pole and then caused the fire. at least one person was burned. fairfax county police say he or she was flown to the hospital. they did not say how many others were hurt in the accident. georgia avenue is back open after a massive fire at a restaurant. one business was nearly destroyed. two others were damaged. megan mcgrath the is live with more on the investigation.

>> reporter: good morning. investigators believe that the fire started inside the bombay gaylord restaurant which is right behind me here. you can see all of the charred tables and chairs that were pulled out of the restaurant and are now sitting here on the front sidewalk. a tremendous amount of damage. this restaurant has been basically been gutted. it was about 1:00 in the morning people who were inside another area business here, the quarterly house tafquarry house tavern underneath the restaurant, they were inside and noticed the smell of smoke. the presence of smoke. they came out of the tavern on to the street level and that's when they saw the fire and called it into 911. now, it was an intense blaze. a lot of firefighters here on the scene. we spoke a little while ago to the owner of the restaurant. and he says when he left at 10:15 last night everything was fine. he turned out the lights, everything was okay. then at around 1:00 in the

morning, he got a call from a friend. he's been here for 17 years. needless to say, to hear the it is turning news that his restaurant was on fire was very difficult. >> i don't know what i'm going to do. this look like high baby, you know what i mean. so now i don't know when i can open because this is my source of income. >> reporter: and there were other businesses in the area. you can see behind me here this is the mandarin restaurant with a broken out door. so other businesses in the area lesser damage, water and smoke and things like this, broken glass. but georgia avenue has reopened at this point. back to you in the studio. some new details this morning on a pedestrian crash in montgomery county. a woman was hurt in the crash and she has died now. chopper 4 over the scene last night about 7:30. shortly after this accident. the woman was crossing frederick road when a car traveling north hit her.

we're learning the names of of more metro stops. board of supervisors voted to call the stops at route 772 and 606 ashburn and loudoun gateway. the names will be forwarded to the metro board which also needs to approve them. they were chosen after a public survey of possible options. the next phase of the silver line scheduled to open in late 2018 or early 2019. parents, if you have young children or baby on the way today you can get a free car seat installation to properly install the car seat into your vehicle. the fitzgerald auto mall in montgomery county is offering

will so thatson shot and killed michael brown and it set off months of protests. the debate over whether social media threats are protected by the first amendment is an issue still being decided by the u.s. supreme court. also the case of a man charged with three murders in alexandria will be in court. charles severance is competent to stand trial. he's charged with killing three people in alexandria over a span of ten years. a teenaged boy in manassas park is facing charges after taking a gun on to school property. the 17-year-old is being charged with disorderly conduct. he was arrested on tuesday afternoon. the boy was carrying a rifle style pellet gun with a scope. this was outside cougar and manassas park elementary schools. both schools were immediately put on lockdown. a second teen was detained. he will not face charges. there could be harsh penalties ahead for penn state fraternity members involved in offensive posts. the school's president says

anyone found responsible could be expelled. right now the kappa delta rho chapter is suspended for a year. members are accused of posting pictures of nude women on a private takes book page without their concept. penn state's president is hoping women who were this those posts will come forward to the school and he says hairtheir privacy will be protected. two american health care workers arrived back in the states. both came into contact with the ebola patient receiving treatment at the national institutes of health thisin bethesda and is will critical condition. two teams from our area are kicking off the big dance tonight. first ncaa tournament game starts at 12:15. vcu will kick things off this is the cool i went to, of course. so i hope everybody else is rooting for the rams as well. they're playing the buckeyes. coming off of five straight wins and the atlantic 10 title.

temperatures will be very marginal. we could very well get some accumulating snow, but primarily on grassy areas because air temperatures may never actually drop all the way below freezing as long as the air temperature stays above freezing, the roads will be slushy, but not frozen up into blocks of ice. nonetheless, plan on an impact full day. advisories posted for northern maryland, panhandle of west virginia already. that includes western loudoun clarke county frederick county. winter storm warnings for washington county, maryland. morgan county, and also out towards alleghany county maryland. basically areas above 1500 feet have a much better chance of some accumulating snow coming our way tomorrow. timing begins between 2:00 and 5:00 a.m.. mostly just a wet snow around the metro area. rain down to the south towards southern maryland and northern neck and slushy roads will be a possibility. storm team 4 radar is all clear this morning. so you are right, nothing to

worry about for today. there is the moisture down to our south. and there is not a widespread amount of winter storm warnings out at all. so this will be a very marginal event indeed. temperatures right now are in the upper 20s in places like gaithersburg and near freezing in haens.manassas. later on this afternoon temperatures climbing to the upper 40s and low 50s under increasing numbers of clouds. as far as future weather is concerned, here we are at 3:00 a.m. tomorrow that's when the rain/snow chances do start to push back into the area. so we'll be keeping a very close eye on that. how much snow might you expect tomorrow, a slushy 1 to 2 maybe as muches 3 inches of snow towards parts of northern montgomery county, 3 to will4 across northern maryland. it will indeed be a quick in and out snow chance. all in the day tomorrow. it will melt down quickly saturday with highs ss near 60. more chilly weather early next week. breaking news into the live desk. we have a large fire in

springfield, virginia. chopper 4 is over the scene right now. several firefighters are there on the ground. this is the 2600 block of rolling road. it is a 2 alarm fire. you can make out some of the white smoke coming from the home right now. that white smoke a good indication firefighters have been able to get the upper hand on this fire. we still have not heard if there was anyone inside the home, if there were any injuries there. you can see there is a large firefighter and police response in the area. again, the 2600 block of rolling road. let's go to melissa mollet thousand. >> at this point we've beenhopper 4 over the two way radio. at this point chopper 4 telling us south hampton drive, which is right here this front of this house at rolling road that is the closure we're seeing right now. we're seeing a little bit of yellow on the map. south hampton drive seems to be shut down at rolling road. other situations around town in lorton, old colchester road at northbound route 1, we have a

crash there with two lanes blocked. 66 east at vienna metro, seeing slowdowns. crash off to the right. still people kind of looking as they're driving by causing a slowdown there. 95 north bound through dale city, a little slow again that's pretty typical for this time of morning. so no major issue there. beltway at kenilworth avenue everything rolling along nicely for us. coming back here of course at 6:31 with more on this house fire and closure and that crash again in lorton. the man accused in a shooting rampage in an arizona suburb has a criminal history spanning a decade. police say ryan giroux killed one person and hurt five others yesterday. according to court documents, he served three stints in prison since 1994. investigators yesterday say giroux shot three people at a motel in mesa. one man died and that led to a carjacking and home invasion. police eventually caught up with

him at an apartment complex and used a stun gun to arrest him. new twists this morning in the case of a real estate heir accused of murder. new evidence leads them to blue robert durst may have been planning to leave the country. stephanie gosk live in new orleans with a look at why investigators believe durst was ready to run. >> reporter: good morning. well, they put robert durst's net worth at about $100 million. in the months leading up to his arrest he was withdrawing large sums. on 35 occasions since last october, he removed sums of $9,000. a lot of money. and when they found him here in his hotel room in new orleans he had more than $42,000 in cash, a fake i.d., a rubber mask among a number of other things. coming up on "today," we'll have more details on what all of this means for his case. and a look at the handwriting analysis that investigators this l.a. say could put him away and that his lawyer says is junk

we could be looking at an additional 11,000 students in the school system. the biggest numbers you will see in the middle and high school levels portable classrooms have been the quick fix if will this county. and have become a way of life. parents, they don't like these classroom, they don't like the portables, they have been really pressing hard for more permanent solutions, more space, for new construction and speeding up new construction. but this morning we will see a lot going on at the meeting. it's going to happen later today at this committee meeting, lots of eyeballs will be on this as county leaders address the problem of more students coming this way and the future use of portables. and just to give you a clearer picture, all four of the elementary schools that feed in to this one particular high school richard montgomery, are already overcrowd and eventually

series of raceis postings on social media. the posts appeared on the online form yik yak which shows users anonymous comments in their immediate area. based on location the posts made have i been made by american university students or by people near the school. au's discussion tonight is about strategies for creating a more inclusive community. on monday, au's vice president of campus life e-mailed students saying it can be not be stated strongly enough that these posts stand in stark contrast to american university's core values. right now d.c. fire and ems investigating a case where an ambulance never showed up. firefighters say a d.c. police officer hurt his leg while arresting someone in northeast washington earlier this week. a fire truck came within minutes, but police say the officer needed an ambulance. firefighters requested one five times with no response. now, according to the fire department an ambulance was sent out 26 minutes after the fire truck arrived. by that time, officers had driven the injured cop to the

hospital instead. from the live desk, an update on the breaking news in springfield virginia. the big house fire there on rolling road. we have just learned from firefighters on the scene that the fire is out. that means the flames have been extinguished. but there is still smoke pouring out of that home. fire was a two-alarm fire when it was going strong, but again, firefighters have been able to get the upper hand and get the flames under control. you can still see the white smoke billowing into the air. this is causing a traffic impact there on south hampton drive. some lanes blocked off because of the fire apparatus there on the scene. we are still waiting to learn if there was anyone inside the home if there are any injuries resulting from this fire. also work to go find out what sparked the flames in the first place. new developments out charlotte charlottesville as tensions escalate after graphic pictures and video surfaced showing the arrest of a student. what we're learning about the

caused this fire inside the bombay gaylord restaurant. they also believe it was probably burning for a while before patrons at a nearby bar saw the smoke and then called 911 realizing that there was a fire in the restaurant up above them. now, extensive damage the fire essentially gutted the restaurant. for a time, georgia avenue was closed down. at this point, though emergency crews have left the scene. the fire is out. and all of the roads in the area have reopened. new developments this morning on the latest scandal to hit the secret service. we're learning that surveillance tapes that may have captured a crash involving two secret service agents may have been erased. the two agents crashed into a barricade earlier this month after both attended a party. during a hearing yesterday on the hill, a congressman asked for the footage and joseph
