you have a heavy foot, watch out for this. this is one along fort lincoln drive. if you're caught speeding you'll be given a warning for the next 30 days as part of that a grace period. following that though you will be fined. we'll post the locations on the nbc washington app. just search d.c. speed cameras. this morning we now know two 19-year-olds were killed following a crash in anne arundel county. that crash happened on route 50 near 97. an off duty takoma park police officer did not see traffic stopped ahead of him, he slammed into a car killing a 63-year-old father at the scene. that man's daughter and her friend also died from their injuries. today news on the investigation into an alleged sexual assault at the university of virginia. news 4 will be at that press conference in charlottesville this afternoon. the sexual assault was detailed in a now described "rolling stone" magazine article last year. we'll send out a breaking push

reaching just the upper 40s north and west of the metro area with a few clouds there, but mostly sunny south of washington that's where we'll have the warmest temperatures. should be right around 50 degrees in prince william county and much of loudoun and fauquier and stafford and spotsylvania culpeper to fredericksburg may actually get in to the low 50s and hovering near 50 degrees in southern maryland. and rather cool right near the bay with the bay water temperatures so chilly it will only be in the low to mid-40s right near the bay later this afternoon. melissa, how are the roads? >> yoifroverall looking pretty good. right now looking at 66 95 here overall no major problems. same thing looking at prince george's county rolling along nicely for us this morning. icc at 95 also looking good. right volume. beltway at st. barnabas is rolling right along, as well. as for the construction worth mentioning again, could be there

the epicenter north of santiago. that's the latest from the live desk. this morning police are looking for three robbers who attacked a man this georgetown and took off with his shopping bags. this happened on 33rd and volta in northwest. the victim held an ice back over part of his face. police found his two stolen bags down the street. they're also looking in on whether this attack is connected to a similar one where three men punched a man about a week ago. and police are also warning you to be careful in the mt. vernon maybe hood. there was a string of robberies there. you can see them on this map here. five all on the same treat in a 24 hour period. most happened during the day. police say they're looking for multiple men and at least one woman in this case. mayor bowser is expected to announce new early childhood education might be differences this morning.

hundreds turned out to show their support is for a new york family of orthodox jews that lost seven children this weekend. a fire ripped through their home saturday morning. a funeral was held yesterday in brooklyn for all of the children. they will be buried in israel. youngest victim was 5, the oldest another teenager jumped from a second story window. they are still in critical condition. fire investigators say that fire was caused by a hot plate that was left on. the mother was using the hot

plate to cook because of the sab both restriction on lighting a flame. today lawyers for accused kill are robert durst are expected in court in louisiana. durst is charged in new orleans with felony gun and drug possession. investigators found a revolver and five ounces of marijuana in his hotel room when they arrested him. his lawyers will argue for his release so that he can face a murder charge though, in california. police arrested durst for the murder of his friend susan berman back in 2000. he denies the charge before the 71-year-old was the focus of an hbo documentary. later today lawyers for the boston marathon bomber are expected to cross-examine an fbi computer expert who testified dzhokhar tsarnaev had an al qaeda inspired magazine on his computer. prosecutors could rest their case later this week. the 21-year-old faces the death penalty for carrying out the deadly 2013 attack with his

i can't imagine what kind of argument it was that would lead her to stab her mother. it makes no sense. >> danny can't believe his 94-year-old great aunt his dead and police say her own daughter killed her. the 60-year-old daughter suffered from mental illness. investigators say michelle davis killed her own mother margaret wells on saturday. they say the two were arguing at their home in which i will lum oig chillum. wells was married for nearly 50 years when her husband passed away. turned 95 in may. a police officer in prince george's county will not be on the job because he's been

indicted on assault and misconduct charges. the alleged victim talked about the incident for the first time. william cunningham says officer santiago confronted him outside his home over where he was parked. he says santiago then placed a glock to his forehead and in his mouth and threatened him. >> when the officer, you know pulled high school service revolver and put it against my head several times, i just you know kind of felt like the -- it was the end of my life. >> there is cell phone video of the incident but it has not been released publicly. cunningham and his family say they believe this is an isolated incident. 15 before the hour right now. the race to the white house has officially begun. texas senator ted cruz announced he will run. richard jordan live on

lynchburg to make the announcement. >> reporter: he put out a tweet that said i'm running for president and i hope to earn your support. he's expected to deliver the same message today at liberty university in lynchburg, a home base for his conservative crowd where he's a tea party favorite there. this is the also the christian evangelical school founded by jerry falwell. so cruz will have a lot of supporters there, likely turning into his first presidential campaign rally. there was this month an nbc/"wall street journal" poll that asked republican voters if they would consider supporting ted cruz, 40% said yes. that puts him eighth from the top. so it doesn't look like he's a front runner but that could be why he decided to get in early and get this head start. >> richard jordan live for us. thank you.

and there are new signals from maryland's former governor martin o'malley that he will challenge hillary clinton for his party's nomination in iowa. it's a critical state to any democrat hoping to become a clear alter naf to clinton. o'malley spoke with income inequality and oversight of wall street. his decision in recent weeks to not run for the retiring barbara mikulski's senate seat is seen as another sign that he might run for president. governor mcauliffe will be in northern virginia this morning to mark the anniversary of the affordable care act. he'll be in arlington. don beyer will also be there along with sylvia burwell and lots of people affected by the law. maryland governor larry hogan's plan to increase the number of charter schools in the state could be in jeopardy. the "washington post" reports state senators are planning to strike down key provisions in the bill. hogan's plan would have given charter school leaders the power to hire and fire set admissions

and again tomorrow. then we'll soar above that on thursday. in fact thursday may be near 70 degrees. share that. spread that around to all your friends. 70 degrees maybe on thursday. and then on friday we get a little bit cooler than amp for the weekaverage for the weekend. upper 50s near 60 on wednesday. and then soaring to maybe even low 70s in a few spots on thursday with scattered showers. some rain showers are looking likely on thursday with that mild air. now, going forward into the weekend, storm team 4 seven day outlook on friday partly cloudy a bit cooler highs upper 50s. and chance of some rain maybe a few wet snowflakes on saturday. no big deal, but cooler with highs around 50. and then sunshine back with highs mid-50s. we have some road work here emergency road work that popped up a little bit ago.

branch avenue at naylor road. a couple lanes blocked. wide look, no major problems. inner loop and outer loop, everything flowing nicely. 270 at old hundred road through hyatts town a little bit of volume headed around that corner. totally typical. no major issue there. 95 in virginia here at lorton road that's flowing well, as well. no major problems there. and then the wood row will so that woodrow wilson bridge, no problems either way at this point. taking a look at 95 in maryland looking good. same thing looking at bw parkway. so overall, keeping our fingers crossed it will be like this for the rest of the morning. good news this morning, gas prices going down. bad new, everywhere but here. how much you can expect to pay at the pump. and a warning for kneenee nissan

this morning federal safety regulators are concerned a fix for two nissan recalls didn't correct the rob.problem. they had recalled nearly 990,000 cars and suvs with a problem with its air bag sensors. computer software may not have

detected an adult sitting in the passenger's seat. the ntsb says horn 1more than 100 people complained problems still happened following the repairs. nissan insists it fixed the issues. gas prices around the country are falling but not in our area. we just checked for you. according to aaa, prices are on average ten cents higher than a month ago. in d.c. it will cost you $2.53 a gallon. in maryland, $2.40. it will cost you on average $2.23 for a gallon of regular unleaded in virginia. and gas is $2.40 a gallon in west virginia. a new study is proving what many parents already think, that recess is pretty much essential. researchers at stanford university say the key, though, is quality recess. specially trained coaches were sent to krikssix elementary schools
