hashtag this morning colder than usual as we deal with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. and storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein is here with the weather headlines of the day. >> the moody march gave us a few passing snow flurries. we saw few come through over the last couple of hours. now a few lingering flurries on the eastern shore. but most of them are over now. temperatures are cold. we're above freezing though. in the mid to upper 30s. prince george's county. much of fairfax county. the rest of northern virginia in the mid to upper 30s. mid 30s in montgomery county near 40 degrees in washington. weather headlines for today a lots of clouds around this morning and a cold morning feeling more like winter than spring. and chilly afternoon with temperatures about 10 degrees colder than average. rain chances moving in later this week. next weather and traffic on the 1's your walk to work forecast.

what is going on with the commute? >> things are slowing down. chopper 4 over beltway and university boulevard. one crash on the left and one crash on the right. looks like the crash on the left remains. it is on the shoulder, still. seems to be slowing things down a bit as you can see the backups here as chopper 4 pans up there. a little bit slow top of the beltway university for a reason there this morning. take a look at prince george's county branch avenue inbound is a tad slow. 95 at maryland bw parkway into and out of town everything looking good. 66 and 95 95 is slow northbound dale city. 66 inbound slow. 16th street and oak street shut down because of a police investigation. and rock creek parkway and pennsylvania we have one lane getting by. thank you. today make sure you follow all the traffic rules no matter if you're walking, biking or driving to work or school. arlington county police are

cracking down on it. maggie megan mcgrath live. >> reporter: well aaron, yeah some people call this the intersection of doom. i'll step out of way here. you can see why it's such a treacherous intersection here. of course you have all the car traffic that drives through here. this is lee highway and north lynn street. you have the crosswalk here. a lot of pedestrian traffic. it's a little early but later today we'll see lots of pedestrian. there's a cyclist who crossed their the street. there's a bike trail nearby. they were actually last year 20 collisions here with seven injuries. arlington county police are going to be out at this intersection later on today as well as a number of other busy intersections in the area writing tickets. not just to drivers but pedestrians as well as people who are on their bikes who are not obeying the traffic laws. here are the intersections where they're going to be enforcing.

lee highway and north lynn street. north courthouse road and north 15th street. columbia pike at south scott street. they're going to be looking not just for drivers who are disobeying the traffic laws but they will also be looking for pedestrians who are jaywalking as well as people on bikes who are not following the safety protocols here at this intersection and the others in the area. they want to make sure that everybody is safe. that everybody is following the law. back to you guys. thank you. today the director of the secret service faces another grilling about problems with the agency. joseph clancey will be on the hill to talk about a march 4th incident on white house grounds. two senior agents are accused of driving drunk and disrupting a white house crime scene involving a possible bomb. committee leaders are disappointed the secret service won't let agents with first-hand knowledge of the incident testify. this week a university of

virginia student plans to plead not guilty following an arrest that left him with ten stitches. martese johnson will plead not guilty tomorrow to charges of public intoxication. you have seen the cell phone video of virginia abc agents arresting johnson after he was turned away from a pub. we covered a lot of stories that involved alcohol on college campuses. today virginia alcohol and beverage controls are holding outreach events at two schools in the state. george mason university and the college of william and mary will host the virginia college tour. it's a chance for students and educate or its to reduce underage drinking. metro meeting to talk about the underground emergency that happened about two months ago. the tunnel near the l'enfant

plaza station filled with smoke and one woman died. the . we want to to show you the video of a deputy's car almost standing on end. the sheriff's department said the deputy inside was responding to a call about a fight when he crashed into an suv and flipped into the telephone pole. we're told he's in good shape right now and that he's expected to be fine. police are looking for a driver involved in a deadly hit and run accident. this morning we're hearing from family members of a 19-year-old who was killed in a hit and run. he attended buoy state university. he was killed friday morning on the baltimore, washington parkway.

if you've been waiting for this site there you have it! the cherry blossoms are blooming just not here. this is japan. take a look at the blossoms in tokyo. the light pink flowers symbolizing new beginnings and fresh starts. cherry blossom season typically lasts for a week to ten days. the cherry blossom festival is underway here in d.c. you have to wait awhile for the blooms to blossom. they are expected to hit peak bloom in about three weeks. we'll have all the events at the

. a school in prince george's county is apologizing after failing to tell parents that black mold was found in the classroom. the county said it should have communicated that students were moved from a classroom at dodge park elementary after mold was found in a wall. one dad told news 4 he found out when his autistic son came home upset. >> he came home with a tantrum. there was a change in school. since my son is autistic, he needs a routine on a daily basis. >> it is important to get the information out and we apologize for that. two staff members have complained of respiratory issues but it's unclear if that is connected to the mold.

a girl scout leader is out of jail this morning. he posted bond. he had inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old girl he met through his wife's girl scout troop. investigators found hundreds of pornographic images of children on his computer and cell phone. he faces 30 charges. he's a person of interest in a similar case in fairfax. hundreds have signed a petition to get d.c.'s mayor to come down hard on crime in your neighborhood. concerned citizens have gathered more than 400 signatures. they say for the past three months police have responded to 17 reports of shots fired in the area. it seems you want the mayor to address the issue and take action to make the neighborhood a safer place to live. an oregon father facing multiple charges after he was

caught blowing marijuana smoke into his infant child's mouth. a friend caught 22-year-old christopher cling on camera. witnesses tell them that cling has done it more than once. he faces up to 20 years in prison now. the 1-year-old is safe. they're not releasing the video. joseph morrissey could be in hot water because he moved outside of his district. he may be in hot water for moving outside his district. he moved for a senate bid, however, the virginia constitution said he must live in the district to stay in office as a state delegate. or as he tells the washington post, he intends to keep his seat. this could reenergize officers who want him out. he recently resigned after a sex scandal and changed his mind and won the seat back in a special election. at the time he was completing a work release jail sentence.

today city schools breaks ground on two new buildings. the new baldwin elementary and baldwin intermediate schools. the project should be completed by january 2017. to accommodate growth in the school district. the ground breaking ceremony set for 1:00 this afternoon. frustration is growing over the planned shut down of sweet briar college in virginia. now an alumni group is calling for the president's resignation. the women's college would close at end of the academic year because of quote, insurmountable challenges. alumni and faculty are fighting the closure. a new report more than half million americans will develop alzheimer's disease this year. but as many as half will never be told their diagnosis. the alzheimer's association said only 45% of people with dementia said they were given a diagnosis by their doctor. parking lot

sunday. highs 50s on monday. next traffic on the 1s bus stop forecast for the tuesday morning. now a look at traffic. pretty good volume builting now. beltway at university boulevard. chopper 4 over the scene here. a little slower than we typically see because of two crashes on each shoulder here a little bit ago. you can see that volume building here outer loop here as you approach university boulevard. take a look 270 and montrose road. a little bit of volume there. that's moving fine. no problems as you head. 66 43 miles per hour. not bad. 95 virginia here heading northbound prince william county fine. then you are slow a little through wood bridge and as you join the beltway on the inner loop. still have the closure at alexandria. that's because of some downed wires. back in ten minutes. see you at 6:31.

take a look at the surveillance video. it shows philadelphia police tasering a man twice on the train tracks. as you can see, the man was jumping up-and-down on the divider between the busy tracks yesterday. police caught up with the man and took him to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation. today the legal battle may be far from over. the fraternity accused in the rolling stone article said the reputation has been damaged. gabe gutierrez with how they're reacting this morning. gab, gabe good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. the fraternity said it's exploring the legal options and the national headquarters is

weighing in. as you mentioned, charlotteville charlottevilles police chief said he found no evidence to back up the allegations in rolling stone magazine. a woman identified as jackie alleged that seven men had gang raped her back in 2012 at a fraternity house. that investigation is suspended but not closed because the police chief said it's possible that something terrible could have happened to jackie. just not what was laid out in the rolling stone article. for its part rolling stone apologized to the readers, but it now says it is awaiting an independent investigation of its reporting done by columbia university's journalism school. and that is expected in the next few weeks. we'll have the latest on the developing story coming up on "today." back to you. >> gabe we'll see you at 7:00 a.m. thank you. power house athlete mone davis proving she has a big heart, too. a lot of you are commenting on the story on nbc washington phasebook. she asked a university basketball coach to let one of

and traffic on the 1s at 6:41. >> right now i want to give you an update on the crock creek parkway southbound at pennsylvania. we have that situation. the earlier crash with just one lane getting by. we checked a couple of minutes ago. they were supposed to be opening things up. we know they will shortly. still have one lane getting by. beltway and university boulevard on the outer loop here. the headlights you can see a bit of volume here as you approach university. partially because of two earlier crashes that kind of slowed things down for us this morning. pretty good volume outer loop. inner loop looks like it's moving okay. you can see it here. inbound 295 and inbound 395. kind of slow through centerville the entire way in. you open up in oak den and slow down in vienna. now today maryland transportation leaders are expected to announce a big drop in the number of people killed in the crashes.

deaths based on preliminary numbers from 2014. they will show life saving devices and highlight a collaborative effort to cut down on the number of deadly and serious crashes across the state. loved ones are remembering a father, daughter, and her boyfriend killed in a crash on route 50 near annapolis over the weekend. jason was helping susannah take care of her father who was having health problems. state police say an off duty police officer slammed into the back of their car saturday and caused that car to flip over. raymond batters, susannah, and jason were sitting in traffic when a prior wreck happened. the 19-year-old susannah would leave college every weekend to help her dad. state police say it may take weeks before the attorney's officer can determine whether charges will be filed against the officer. and for the third time in recent months u.s. service-members are being urged to stay off social media. this after an isis-inspired hit list appeared online. tracie potts live with the latest u.s. response. >> good morning.

100 service-members on the list. their names, photographs, titles in some cases, even their home addresses by a group that reports to be a part of isis. now are they in danger? some military experts say no. it's just isis flexing its muscles online again. the pentagon said they're always concerned about safety and security of our service-members and they're contacting each one personally. they're not providing personal protection. what they're doing is teaming them to scrub their online profiles. make sure they don't have personal information out there. change their passwords, their privacy settings because they have determined their systems were not hacked but all of this information was already out there readily available online. the fbi also involved as of this morning. checking out threat to see if there's any credibility to it. >> tracie potts on the hill. thank you so much. the the secret service said a threat against president obama's niece was a hoax. you may have seen agents if you

welcome back. if you're planning a trip to the shenandoah national park, you should know its main road is partly close noud. the national park service closed a 10-mile stretch of skyline drive because huge rocks have been falling on to it apparently. rocks do fall along the road from time to time but not as big as they're seeing now. no one has been hurt because of the so far. you may be dealing with more pesky mosquitos this year. it seems a cold winter doesn't mean fewer mosquitos. it may mean the opposite.
