9525. the first responders have just arrived at the scene. they say there are no survivor there is. we are learning that close to 150 people were on that plane. 144 passengers 2 babies 6 crew members, all of them feared dead. that flight crashed in the french alps this morning. it was a germanwings operated by lufthansa airline. we are learning that the plane started a descent at 30,000 feet. it was a steep but not unusual descent. it went off radar at about 6,000 feet. this was about 45 minutes into the flight. the plane had a routine inspection yesterday. the captain was with the company for ten years. the french president spoke with the german chancellor this morning. merkel is headed to france.

she expect eds to be there tomorrow. most of the people on board were from either spain, germany or turkey. those were the passengers that are listed there. officials expect that it will likely take days to recover all the bodies from the wreckage. right now, news 4 i-team is in southwest washington where the ntsb is talking about how to make sure you're safe around a moving train. it was reported months ago more than 100 people were hurt or killed while crossing the tracks in our area. here you can see a film crew in georgia moments before one of them is hit and killed by an oncoming train. 526 people were killed last year and about 2 to 3 people are hit by a train every day. right now the head of the secret service is speaking on behalf of that agency and he's getting grilled about the alarming behavior of top agents.

joseph clancy is talking to a house oversight committee about a march 4th incident on white house grounds. two senior agents are accused of driving drunk and crashing on white house grounds. it disrupted a crime scene involving a possible bomb. community leaders are dis disappointed they can't testify about the incident. the university of is exploring legal options. they found no evidence that backs up rape allegations first published in "rolling stone." the national chapter condemned the article saying quote, "rolling stone" sought to turn fiction into fact is shameful. even though police are suspending the investigation, officers did ask people to come forward at a news conference. the alleged victim known only as jackie is no longer cooperating. the secret service says the threat against president obama's niece was a hoax. you may have seen agents if you

were at the xfinity center last night. she plays basketball for princeton. the president was not there, although he did attend a game this past weekend. this was a close call. a car crashed into a barrier outside a post office in montgomery county. this happened just before 10:00 this morning on sandy spring road in sandy spring. no one was hurt. cloudy skies outside again today and not much in the way of sunshine coming our way over the coming days either. not only is it cloudy but it's cold if you're going to be outside this afternoon. temperatures around the region still in the mid-30s in northern maryland. all the way up to 42 here in washington. even the western shore of the bay is on the cold side courtesy of the cold waters outside. your weather headlines for today, plenty of clouds around but very few drops. if you can't find the um brelbrella,

george zimmerman criticizing to in a video. he's speaking out now that an investigation into his case is over. zimmerman says he can't feel guilty about surviving a confrontation like the one with trayvon martin. zimmerman shot and killed the unarmed teen three years ago in florida. a jury acquitted him. he blames the president for stirring up a racial divide. >> president obama held his rose garden speech stating if i had a son he would look like trayvon. to me that was clearly a der election of duty solely based on

breaking news this morning, germanwings flight 9525 crashed in the french alps. there are no survivors. authorities say no one could have possibly survived the crash here. let's go to barbara. today the new president of afghanistan is in for another busy day here in the district. he laid a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier in arlington national cemetery. jackie bensen jackie bensen -- joe biden joined in the the wreath laying. the president will face questions on removing u.s. troops from afghanistan. for the third time in recent months service members are being urged to stay off social media after an isis-inspired hit list

stretch of the road that part of it you can see it here. that's a tiny fraction of that road. an engineer is figuring out why those rocks are falling. no one has been hurt thankfully so far. every 67 seconds somebody in this country develops alzheimer's disease, but as many as half of them may not be told they have it. so why would doctors not tell their patients about this? a couple possible reasons according to the alzheimer's association, first, there's still no straight forward test to diagnose this. doctors sometimes fear the reaction to the news. and third, they say they won't be believed. to put that in perspective, 90% of people with cancer are told that they have cancer by their doctors. another important statistic here 2 out of 3 people in the u.s. with alzheimer's are women and that may be in part because

>> put the frowny face on. if you want warm weather, you'll have one shot this week and that's going to be on thursday. in the meantime we are stuck in the clouds and the cold again this morning. here we are at 11:00 a.m. temperatures in the mid-30s to the north of the metro. 42 in washington. so your metro area forecast for today, about 15 degrees colder than average. the average high is right around 60. plenty of clouds and chill in the air for sure. couldn't rule out a sprinkle but you won't need the umbrella. that's a little bit of good news. when i see you next we'll talk about that milder air. it starts to come back tomorrow but thursday is going to be the one day this week that's actually warmer than average. we have some new video just into the live desk of an incident at the white house involving the secret service. this was back on march 4th. ad been set up as part of a bomb threat

investigation. the video was publicly shown at the house oversight committee meeting. director clancy had previously said that the video had been recorded over but the agency was doing all it could to recover the footage. now the video is out. the two agents involved are accused of being under the influence when driving that vehicle and hitting that barricade. the homeland security department's inspector general is now investigating those allegations. >> richard, thank you. consumer reporter erika gonzalez is here. companies claim they can improve your credit score. >> tonight we'll be sharing the story of a woman who paid money up front to one company under the promise that it would repair her credit in 60 days. a lot of people have looked into this. >> can you do that? is that legal? >> is that illegal? that's a question that a lot of people have. not according to federal law, but the bureau warns people

more breaking news right now on the crash of germanwings flight. an official saying there were 16 students from a spanish school on board that plane. they are among the 150 people on the plane that are now feared dead. the first investigators arriving at the scene in the french alps saying there are no survivors. the flight was going from barcelona to dusseldorf. it crashed 45 minutes into the flight. the plane disintegrated. look at the logo on the twitter page for germanwings. they have changed their logo. they have taken off the colors,

typically maroon and yellow now black and white. their recent twitter message saying their thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the passengers and crew members that were on that flight. we are also learning that president obama has been briefed and is offering his support to those countries who had passengers on that flight. >> thanks richard. right now, there's federal hearing about how safe you are around a moving train. this happening at ntsb headquarters in southwest washington. scott macfarlane is there. scott told us months ago more than 100 people were hurt or killed while trespassing on tracks and that's just in our area. you can follow scott on twitter to find out what's being said at that hearing today. make sure you follow the traffic rules or you could face a fine. arlington county police cracking down on pretty much everybody right now. this is a look at the intersections where police are out in force today.

megan mcgrath has what you need to know. >> reporter: drivers, pedestrians and cyclists you need to pay attention to the traffic signals and yield when you're supposed to or you run the risk of getting a ticket. police are going to be here at this busy intersection of leigh highway in about a half hour cracking down. it's part of a larger pedestrian safety campaign. heed that order or you may be slapped with a ticket. arlington county police are cracking down on jay walking, speeding and other violations that put pedestrians in harm's way. for the next several weeks, police will focus on busy intersections like this one, clul columbia pike. >> speeding is a common one. vehicles passing school buss when the stop arm is out there, pedestrians entering the intersection when they don't have the walk signal. just behaviors that could make a difference in saving a life. >> reporter: most people who

week to reduce her chance of getting cancer. almost two years ago, the 3-year-old oscar winner revealed she had a double masstectomy, a decision she made after losing her mother to breast cancer. >> i'm grateful for it and been moved by the support from people.really grateful for it. >> two weeks ago the results of a blood blood test revealed early signs of ovarian cancer. in the editorial, she writes i went to see the surgeon who had treated my mother and when she saw me. you look just like her. i broke down, but we smiled at each other and agreed we were there to deal with any problem so let's get on with it. >> she's a movie star. her journey of decision making those are all issues that every woman struggles with every time they hear any possibility of a disease. in her case again, a severe cancer generations of cancer i can understand why she did it. >> while this surgery was less complex than the doesn't

the secret service now says a threat against president obama's niece was a hoax. you may have seen agents if you went to the xfinity center last night. she plays for princeton's basketball team. they were taking on maryland in the women's tournament there last night. the president was not there, although he did attend a game the past weekend. you may have seen him. it's a mostly cloudy day outside again today, and we don't have a lot of sunshine in the forecast either. winter just keeps on hanging on. march is now more than a degree colder than average and there's no real hope for any extended warm-up coming this week. here's future weather for the next 48 hours. cloudy skies will continue to be the rule not the exception for the rest of the day. clouds will thin out a little bit overnight. by 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, still partly to mostly cloudy. during the day tomorrow hit and miss chances for very light sprinkles or showers. not going to add up to too much.

withes a per tame or other artificial sweeteners which people are growing to detest or avoid. that's proved particularly problematic for diet sodas. people are drinking them more of an indulgence. they are having them once a week instead of every day. you might not need to opt for the diet variety. you probably will have the regular type. >> tell me have sales of the real thing, the sugared coke and pepsi, has that gone up since diet sodas are not being consumed? >> no what we have seen happening in the soda category is a drop on all levels. coke zero and other diet or low calories sodas meant to mimic grew for awhile in the 2000s, but they have since fallen off. last year sales decreased for the first time ever. so we're seeing sodas in general perform poorly but diet sodas in particular are falling faster than regular sodas. >> what are soda makers planning
