following breaking news from the live desk. new information on the plane that crashed in the french alps. did the copilot cause the crash on purpose? i'm richard jordan. you're watching "news4 midday." i'm barbara harrison. in the past hour a uva student arrested in this controversial video in court this morning. the latest on the charges against him. and i'm melissa mollet pap better look at the damage left behind by tornadoes in oklahoma. i'm storm team 4 meteorologist tom kierein. light rain around the area and sun breaks out. tell you how warm it's going to get later today coming up. briking news in the investigation of the germanwings flight that crashed in the french alps earlier this week. officials believe the copilot intentionally brought that plane

down kills himself and 149 other people onboard. the captain left the cockpit for a short while and then could not get back in. this was all heard on the flight voice recorder no leads why the first officer would take this action. they don't believe it was an act of terror. 28 years old the copilot, from germany. a slight interruption in his training that happened about six years ago. according to lufthansa the parent company of germanwings no red flags, no reason to keep that copilot from the cockpit. protocol was followed. the captain left the cockpit for a short time and then could not get back in. in the u.s. if that happens a flight attendant goes into the cockpit so no one is there alone. lufthansa saying they have no plans to change their policies. melissa? richard, three americans, of course, on that plane including two fwrim our area. emily selke and her mother lives

former army sergeant bowe bergdahl faces charges oftr" de desertion that could put him in prison for life. you may remember he was freed in a swap for five taliban commanders last year. now the u.s. army charged him with deserting saying he endangered fellow soldiers' lives. he could be dishonorably discharged but will likely take a plea barge ton avoid being behind bars. >> a university student joining us from college park. megan? >> at the time the e-mail was written the student was a member of the kappa sigma fraternity and the message wrote to six friends was about plans for rush week. the e-mail offended many and we've learned that that student is no longer attending classes here.

former congressman jesse jackson jr. released from a federal prison after 2 1/2 years, schelded from reporters as he left the montgomery, alabama facility. he's headed to a halfway house near d.c. his father wife sandy and children with him this morning. the reverend spoke to reporters on his way to meet his son calling today "a great morning." jackson's wife will also serve time. today the consumer financial protection bureau released a blueprint that could affect millions of americans in need of cash. the proposed rule changes would affect how borrowers get approved for pay day loerngs car title loans and certain high-cost personal loans. the cfp budget is looking at the two approaches. preevgs and protection. lenders would be required to verify income and borrowing history up front to make sure you won't have a problem paying back the loan.

heading into northeastern maryland. a few showers, tide water virginia, should stay dry now. this evening, line of showers move tloog. before then temperatures climbing into the low to mid-70s. then maybe a lingering shower friday morning. sun back in the afternoon. highs low 50s. over the weekend, saturday just in the 40s. low to mid-40s. might get a sprinkle, a built of a blustery wind and partly sunny. mostly sunny sunday, high near 50 after a cold start. just in the 20s sunday morning. as we get into next week, looking very pleasant. on monday tuesday and wednesday should be mild afternoons and cool mornings in the 30s to near 40 degrees. >> all right. thank you, tom.
