chute. the 16th street bridge over military road will be entirely rebuilt over the next several months. it will mean layne closures and of course some delays. megan mcgrath is live with more on this. crews already getting started. >> reporter: yeah, we've been talking about this for a couple of weeks. and you can see that the work has begun here along 16th street. the crews have blocked off lanes right at the base of the bridge and we will see a traffic impact for months to come. now, we're talking about 16th street where it crosses over military road. both major commuter routes so it will have a huge impact. 16th street will be totally swapping out this bridge replacing it. they're down to one lane in each direction. we're also seeing lane closures down on military road, as well. these are major commuter routes. we'll see the impact here especially in the weeks to come as people are trying to figure

out the change in the traffic pattern and look for alternate routes. we're expecting things on georgia avenue to pick up as well as people shift from their normal route over to the alternative route of georgia avenue. also if you take a bus through the area and your bus route travels over the 16th street bridge expect some details there, as well. so a big impact from i'm. they're hoping that they will finish the work bay august. but in the meantime expect delays through the area. back to you. new information on the better germanwings flight 9525 co-pilot accused in the taking down of the flight had been in psychiatric treatment six years ago. investigators have now searched the home of andreas lubitz and his parents' home. we're also learning this morning that the german aviation association will consider changing its rules to require two crew members to be in the cockpit at all times.

driving accident heads to court. momodui bello has been charged with second-degree murder. court documents say bello was speeding when he crashed in to a parked trailer sunday morning. he had been drinking at a bar. the victim nancy tinoza was in the front seat. he allegedly pulled her out of car and shook her when she doesn't respond to him. her funeral is tomorrow. a man was found shot inside a home inside fairfax county. it happened just after 8:00 last night on authority kings highway in the alexandria section. police say they believe that there are four suspects in this case. they're still investigating whether those suspects knew the victim. new this morning, the senate stayed in session into the wee hours today passing hair budget bill just about two hours ago. but work is far from over. the bill could lead to a vee owe battle with the president. senate republicans balanced budget plan cuts trillions of dollars. the white house says the cuts

city. this is a live picture. crews there are still keeping an eye on the still smoldering rubble here. 19 people hurt during that blast yesterday. four of help still in critical condition. construction workers hit a gas line in the city's east village setting off that explosion. a massive fire broke out eventually causing three buildings to collapse. 250 firefighters from 50 different firehouses around the city responded to the scene there. >> we thought it was a bomb and then my manager actually thought the car ran if to the restaurant. >> and i saw the whole storefront it's on the street. >> new york city mayor bill de blasio says everyone has been accounted for after that explosion. a rookie d.c. firefighter is facing charges for possession of unregistered firearm and ammunition. andre was arrested wednesday. police say an unregistered handgun along with ammunition were found in his apartment. he's the third d.c. firefighter

to be arrested in three weeks. a veteran who was nearly killed during a carjacking is thanking police, a tipster and news 4 for help finding the suspect. we broke the story back in november after he was shot and robbed. fbi agents arrested rakeem solomon yesterday. a video showed the potential sus suspect and a person remembered sighing the story, called police wednesday with information and that led to an arrest. right now police are asking for your help to find a missing girl. take a good look at the picture here. this is 14-year-old cecilia guz than. she was last seen on freeport street in hyattsville. guzman attended park dale high school. if you have any information you're asked to call prince george's county police. loudoun county sheriff's office is asking anyone to come forward if you know anything about alleged sex assaults as a church. the sheriff's office is

investigating calvary temple pentecostal church in sterling. this comes after the loudoun times mirror spoke to two women who say they were assaulted by several members of church leadership when they were children. the newspaper reports a peaceful protest will be held outside the church this sunday. a frightening scene in northeast d.c.. watch this. three men seen standing in a d.c. parking lot just opening fire. police aren't sure what the men are shooting at. d.c. police want your help identifying these suspect abouts. this happened wednesday on hayes street. fortunately here nobody was injured. a prince george's county family wants answers after police met them at the door with their guns drawn. officers say they were responding to complaints that a boy was walking around this lanham neighborhood with a gun. the parents say their son was forced out of their home with their hands up. >> had a gun pointed at me and high son.

so i was fearful for his life. >> pointed it at the my face aped to me to put my hands up, shut up, put your hands up. >> both prince george's county and glenarden police responded here. glenarden chief says officers agented appropriately and had their guns draub, but never pointed them at anyone. the chief also reports officers realized the sawyer family was not involved in the complaint. today u.s. secretary of homeland security jeh johnson is set to travel to louisiana. tell heat with the tsa officers hurt in last week's attack at louis armstrong new orleans international airport. last friday a man armed with a made 14e9chete attacked the agents. johnson says the agents saved lives with their prompt and decisive action. federal prosecutors are asking a judge to uphold former virginia governor bob mcdonnell's corruption conviction. prosecutors say jurors correctly found the former governor guilty in a clear cut bribery case.

mcdonnell was convicted of taking tens of thousands of dollar this is exchange for promoting a dietary supplement company. prosecutors say that by appealing, mcdonnell is artificially sanitizing the facts. so you see these images here. this used to be somebody's home. right now thousands are still without power after three tornadoes swept through oklahoma. there is widespread damage from just outside tulsa to moore, oklahoma. some students trapped inside a gym describe feeling their body was being lifted up and they said that they could hear the furniture moving around. the gym collapsed but firefighters were able to get everyone out safely. one man was killed when a twister hit a mobile home park near tulsa in sand springs. just a few minutes ago, we learned a rocket launch planned for this morning has been scrubbed. the rocket willcolleges into

rain in northeast southeast washington that crosses the potomac into alexandria and right near mt. vernon. farther south, woodbridge and quantico down 95, very light rain there. but this is all tracking off to the north and east. when you're away from your tv heading out this morning, you can track the radar on the storm team 4 app. and temperatures too, where it's only around 40 degrees they're by suburbs. mid-40s this washington. low 40s right around the chesapeake bay. what a dramatic change from yesterday. so with the morning commute, wet roads. we'll be in the 40s. and then during the afternoon roads will be drying out we'll be hovering in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees. so not much of a change temperatures over the next 24 hours. and then colder as we get down to tomorrow morning, mid-30s. breezy and chilly on saturday with highs mid-40s. sunday sunny into the low 50s after a cold start in the 20s. and then finally getting mild for several days in a row.

closely. he says future events may have to be moved out of that area if fans are negatively impacted by the law. d.c. circulator buses are adding hours. starting monday, the circulator will run two extra hours on week nights. two routes will get saturday service for the first time. for every nats game the union station, navy yard route will run u midnight. the extended hours will run until october 3. this morning metro's reassuring you that you are safe inside its stations. we broke the news last week that new lighted handrails along the silver line were overheating and catching fire. metro says those lights have now been turned off. while metro runs the silver line, again those lights have been turned off. the metropolitan washington airport authorizes built the line and they are responsible for those fixes. controversial plan to hike property taxes is moving ahead. the steps being taken by prince

of west virginia but all east of there, it's all rain right now. gets lights rain northern eastern suburb. the area of yellow coming down it harder. farther south and west just some light rain woodbridge down 95 to fredericksburg another area of some moderate rain, that's in partly cloudy tracking east. much of the rain will taper off by 10:00 and moving east of us. during the afternoon, still light rain this area in green this as of 3:00 p.m. most of it is over height get a few lingering sprinkles by then in far southern maryland, but we'll be gradually drying out during the afternoon. look at the hour by hour chilly temperatures for the day ahead coming up at 6:41. how is the commute? good morning.

the ghut is looking good this morning. no reports of major incidents or delays. we're seeing minor slowing on the top side of the beltway at montgomery county but all lanes are open. no report of incidents there. in manassas balls ford road near jackson avenue accident there. it has been moved to the shoulder. route 1 at powells creek boulevard, accident there police on the scene. up 395, seeing minor slowing from the beltway, but it being loose good all the way up to the 14th street bridge. 270 looking good as well. 6:31 now. and today we'll learn a lot more about whether your taxes will be going up in prince george's county. the county executive heads to annapolis to fight for the controversial hike. he says the hike is all about schools. zachary kiesch has more details on this. >> reporter: good morning. 15%, that's what property owners are looking at here in prince george's county. county executive baker has long

been a proponent of education. they made huge strides here in the county but they say more money is needed to at that time the next step. some of this money will be used for school improvements other parts of the money will be used to retain teachers so they can offer competitive salaries with other people in the area. horn half of his $3.6 billion budget is dedicated to education. so how does this impact you sf if you are a homeowner here in the county and you own a place that is about $400,000 your property taxes would go up about $600 a year. it's the first increase in 35 years. it also calls for furloughs and layoffs in local government. the proposal that is. some of the decisions also steer money toward public safety and development. not all education, but education certainly is one of the key points here. at least would not local senator is not on board but in the end, the prince george's county county local council here will have the final say and they will make that vote in june. back to you in the studio.

an investigation is thousand under way now that a missing 5-year-old has been found dead. noah thomas was last seen at his family's home and his body was found on the family property the. the sheriff says the child's parents have been cooperating in the investigation and so far no arrests have been made. we are learning this morning that the secret service is tightening its rules on drinking. the new policy will prohibit staff from driving government cars within ten hours of drinking alcohol. the "washington post" reports the new policy was put in place on monday. it follows an incident this month when two agents drove through a bomb threat scene after a party at a nearby bar. today the university of oklahoma will release its final report on an investigation into a racist chant by fraternity members. the chant led to the closure of the university's sae chapter. two fraternity members were also expelled expelled. the university says it will the

not suspend anymore students. the report will be released at noon today. a critical witness expected to at that time stand in the murder trial of aaron hernandez. associated press reports his fiance will be called to the stand. jenkins was granted immunity by the court in february. that means she can be compelled to testify are or face time behind bars. hernandez is charged with the murder of odin lloyd. his fiance has been accused of helping to dispose of evidence. 6:34. an arlington reschool is closedpreschool is closed of asbestos. the discovery was made while the school was being cleaned. school officials say they are looking for a temporary site while the repairs are done. today you can learn more about how to save money when you file your taxes. community leaders in virginia are encouraging you to use the irs in virginia free file

that they came here hoping to get to the crash site which is in the mountains behind me. not knowing about the revelations that would come out yesterday when they lapdnded they were told that the co-pilot was being accused of crashing the plane in to the alps behind me. you can imagine their reaction. meanwhile we're hearing the fbi has opened an investigation because of the three americans that were killed and also because of reports that the co-pilot underwent some of his training in the u.s.. meanwhile here, investigation gaeors go up there day by day picking through the debris trying to find any clue and of course personal possessions, clothe jewelry, anything they can. the families that have come here have given their dna to try to help with the identification process. it's just so desperately sad. >> kyrgios kyrgios simeir simmons

if you look behind me you can see that work is under way here this morning. and we are now for the first time seeing these lane closures on 16th street. we're down to just one lane in each direction. there is the the area where 16th street crosses that bridge over top of military road. two major commuter routes and both of them are going to be impacted for the next several months. 16th street down to just one lane in each direction. but also military road we're seeing lane closures there, as well. so people are going to have to bake some have a time into their commutes or perhaps just think of a different route all together. the work is expected to be completed sometime in august. that's if everything goes spoothly. should also mention that there are a lot of changes to bus routes and bus stops in the area. they're switching things around there. so if you normally take a bus, the s line for example, through this area across the 16th street bridge you'll want to check things out to see if you have any changes. in fact we've got some
