♪ >> news 4 at 6:00 starts now. off the top at 6:00 a live look at national harbor. those blustery wibdz today dropped the feel-like temperatures down into the 20s. we're a week into spring but it sure feels a lot more like winter. we even saw some flurries today, and tonight we're looking at near record lows. storm team 4 meteorologist amelia seagull joins us with just how cold it's going to be in your neighborhood. >> well chris, we're talking about low temperatures tonight in the 20s across the wrar. we struggleded to leave the 30s today, and look how it feels outside right now when you factor in the winds. they're about 10 to 20 miles across the area. feeling like 23 in lees burg. down to 18 in gaithers burg and

27 in washington. this is how cold it will be tomorrow morning. 23 in la plata, and i think dulles will set i new record low temperature tonight. elsewhere it will be close, and talking about those flurries chris, well the good news flurry activity is winding down. now, tomorrow it's still chilly outside. >> there has been a horrible accident in maryland. prince george's county firefighters had to pull them out of the machine. when he got to the center at capital heights, he was conscious and breathing, but in tremendous pain. he suffered serious traumatic injuries to both legs but he is expected to survive. a car in people's homes riddled with bullets and a 14-year-old girl shot in the leg. it's all part of several investings. d.c. police are working on it right now.

a window mounted air conditioning unit a silent testament to that. friday night police involved shooting on play terrace northeast. according to police a response to a robbery in progress ended up with a man identified as a suspect shot and wounded by a police officer. earlier this surveillance video captured four gunmen park and opening fire as a bistandard ducks for cover. a nearby house took the bullets and a car. not so here at syphax gardens northwest near nat's park. police say when a gunman opened fire around 6:00 p.m. friday and the unit blocked of p street a 14-year-old girl was hit in the leg. she was likely not the intended target. despite a number of shots fired, fortunately, no one died in any of these incidents, but so far suspects have been identified in any of these incidents. derek ward news 4. police now say a stabbing in

gaithersburg last night may have been a revenge attack for another stabbing that happened on thursday. police arrested rosa ramirez last night for allegedly stabbing a man near south frederick and education boulevard. investigators say the victim is a suspect in a stabbing that happened thursday night in that same area. thursday's attack started off as a verbal fight. one man was stabbed. the victim and suspect did not know each other. >> investigators say three men forced their way into an apartment on knocks road and robbed the five students who lived there. the men had a knife and bb gun, but they didn't hurt the students. developing tonight what started as a spring break party turned violent this morning and may cost them students their lives. seven victims in the hospital after there was a shooting in panama city florida. one was shot in the head and several others were shot

multiple times. most of the students who were at the party from alabama and a&m university. someone has been arrested from alabama university on suspicion of attempted murder. rescuers are looking for human remains in the french alps and dozens of investigators are near the site where germanwings flight crashed. nbc's claudio alongo is reporting from france where families are paying tribute. >> reporter: here the operations continue as helicopters, as you can see, just going back and forth recovery and investigators to that crash scene. this is a difficult operation. investigators on saturday were brought -- were wenched down to the crash site. the ones that will go into -- they roll down from the top of the mountain in a formation trying to comb every single corner of that enormous crash

site. there are thousands of pieces of debris scattered over the ravine. investigators are dna specialists and will be looking through the body parts, the body remains that let's remind you that there was not a single body that was found. in fact only body remains because of the violence of that impact the plane with the mountain and they will then take that dna and match it with the dna that the families left while they come here to lay flowers and pay their last respects today. because of the difficult terrain, because of the thousands of pieces on that crash site it will take days maybe weeks, maybe months to complete the investigation and the recovery operation. it's case closed for amanda knox. today she is officially a free woman. italy's highest court overturned her conviction for murdering her roommate meredith kircher, ending an 8-year-old court case.

knox and her ex-boyfriend were convicted of the brutal murder in 2009. then they were acquitted, and then convicted again last year. outside her mother's house in seattle knox says she's grateful to have her life back. >> i'm incredibly grateful for what has happened for the justice i've received for the support that i've had from everyone from my family from my friends, to strangers, to people like you. >> knox always said she was innocent and said she came back to the u.s. knox has written a memoir taken a job at a newspaper, recently gotten engaged. >> new at 6:00 a ladies and gentlemen fight groek out at a 7-eleven parking lot and left one man dead. it happened early this morning in leesburg outside historic plaza street. investigators say the fight involved a large group of people who are all in a nightclub earlier in the night. one man was stabbed in the leg, and he died. over in northeast d.c. paramedics had to rush two people to the hospital last

today thousands of people march the through downtown indianapolis to protest a new religious freedom law. supporters say, well indiana's governor unleashed a storm of criticism when he signed that bill thursday. supporters say it protects everyone's religious beliefs. protesters say business owners could use the law to turn away gay or lesbian customers if serving them goes against their beliefs. the ceo of action newsingy's list opposes the law ask

canceled plans for an expansion in indiana. charles barclay is also calling on college basketball officials to move next week's final four out of the state. the ncaa says it is concerned but didn't comment on actually moving the tournament. well all she wanted was a slushy so this 4-year-old girl grabbed her raincoat slipped out of the house to catch a bus to 7-eleven. it was 3:00 in the morning on a rain-soaked night in philadelphia. the bus driver and passengers were shocked to see someone that young get on the bus alone. she wasn't phased in the least. the girl chatted up the passengers and told them she got dressed all by herself and was on her way to get an ice cold slushy. i was, like whoa you've got to be kidding me. not this time of night. she knew exactly where she was going, so she must have travel thad route before. she had to. >> turns out the girl is fine. she's back with her mom tonight and police say they are not going to file any charges.

new fallen officers memorial and darcy spencer is live in alexandria where the ceremony is just about to start. darcy. >> well about 15 minuteseremony will begin inside the alex abandonria police department building. then they'll come out for the actual dedication a little later on this evening. this means so much to the officers to the rank and file that have waited many many years for this to happen. 18 officers have lost their lives in the line of duty dating back to the 1800s, and the ceremony is going to include speeches a volley of shots using -- "amazing grace" will be played on the bagpipes and taps will be played on the bugle. >> it means a lot to the survivors' families but also it means a lot to the officers who work here every day. it shows that if something unimaginable happens that they won't be forgotten. they'll be honored. >> and, again, that ceremony

will happen outside a little bit later in about one hour. you can see the blue tarps. that's where the actual memorial is baring the names of those officers who have paid the ultimate fabbingsacrifice. that memorial will be lit for the first time once it gets dark later on in the evening. back to you. >> thanks darcy. a little more on that coming up at 11:00 tonight. spring is literally in the air. kite makers and folks who just like to fly them came from all over the world and crowded around the washington monument. this is the fifth year for the annual blossom kite festival and a lot of people came with their own creations, competing to he see who could perform the best tricks. it was a bit chilly but the breeze actually made it ideal. in fact it was so windy at one point, we caught sight of a guy kite surfing across the lawn. that wind was great, fantastic out there for those folks today. >> he actually drove by there earlier and saw all the kites.
