a teenage pilot has been killed in a crash. what we're learning about the tragedy. firefighters say they encountered conditions. two people were hurt. a live report ahead. and protesters say a local church has a history of abuse. they're leveling new allegations, and comparing it to a cult. right now, federal investigators are headed to an area of virginia where a plane went down. the pilot was only 16 years old, and he was killed in the crash.

now, the sing of-engine piper took order from the orange county airport, crashed into a nearby field. the only person on board was ryan mccall. he's 16 lived in spotsylvania and was a sophomore at river bend high school. the star reports that he was a flight school student, but we don't know what caused him to crash. virginia state police are looking into what happened along with the faa and transportation safety board. we'll update the story on nbcwashington.com, and tonight on news4 at 11:00. some of the debris is still smoldering in new york city as search crew dig through the rubble of a building collapse. now they have found two bodies. the medical examiner has not identified those victims, but we know two men have been missing since thursday's explosion in the east village. the blast set fire to multiple buildings in that neighborhood and sent more than two accident people to the hospital including six firefighters.

investigatoring suspect a faulty gas line may be to blame. a deplex went up in flames on eastern avenue and killed a man. d.c. firefighters say extreme hoarding may be partially to blame. darcy spencer is live in northwest -- northeast i should say, with what happened. darcy, what are you healing?ring? >> reporter: it's too soon to say if the conditions prevented them from reaches the victims in time. firefighters are in this neighborhood right now going door to door making sure everyone in this community has a working smoke alarm. the video you are seeing now is from the d.c. fire department. you can see when they got here there was smoke just pouring from the windows here on the deplex. i spoke to a man who lives right next door in the deplex. he tells me he was alerted by smoke that was coming into his home. he ran outside and saw that his

elderly neighbor was still in the home. they broke the glass and got her out, but unfortunately a man was still trapped inside. >> i hear somebody banging on the door. i could see smoke in the whole bathroom was filled with smoke. down here was completely black. i got my mother and got her up and out here and came over and my next-door neighbor miss johnson was laying in front of the door. we broke her window to get her out. >> reporter: two people were transported here from the fire scene. a woman we're told she is expected to be okay. she was seriously hurt. unfortunately an adult male was pronounced dead. we're reporting live from northeast. cry, back to you. >> thanks darcy. there was another big pfeiffer today, this one in maryland. a family of four needs somewhere else to live. the house was in germantown. the fire did about $75,000 in damage and destroyed just about

everything the family owned. officials say the fire started in the chimney late last night. fortunately no one was hurt. in aspirin georges county someone killed a man in the hallway of a building. police found the man in the hall where someone had stabbed him. had happened around langley park. that part of the county has seen its share of gang-related violence most recently a few weeks ago. now we've been telling you about some troubling allegations being leveled against a church minister in sterling. several dozen former members showed up at the calvary temple. >> it was making me sick. i started to become anorexic and refused to eat, because it's the only control i had. >> allegations made by former calvary tempt member are being

investigated. there are no charges filed but skeeter says the abuse came when she became the adoptive granddare of the minister starr scott. outside the church during palm sunday services dozens of former members say she was not alone. they described the church as akin to a cult. >> if you leave -- we can't make you stay about but if you leave, you forfeit authority over your wife and son. i told him that's absurd. just what? >> reporter: he left. his former wife stayed. michael says church leaders broke up his marriage. they would search my bible, search my clothes. they treated my like a criminal. >> samantha spearheaded the protest. she's never been a member. >> personally i am a christian. i think what they are teaching is not biblical but it goes even above and beyond. there's a huge moral problem in

this church. >> reporter: we reached out to the pastor. we got no response but i did speak to a member who says he's been a member for 17 years and hasn't experience anything like the protesters say they have experienced. >> reporter: some current members waved, others ignored them. passers-by -- i say we have pcstd. post-cult traumatic stress disorder. governor o'malley made some comments today that got a lot of people wondering. he went on abc's "this week" and said the presidency is not a crown to be passed between two families. he did not name names, but he didn't have to. it was a thinly veiled jab at hx hb and former governor jeb bush both of whom could be making a run in 2016. when asked if he's throwing his hat in the ring o'malley said he'll make a decision this pring. a violent armed robbery in tampa.

three suspects barged into a convenience store with guns out and started rummages through the religion sister and safe looking for cash. investigators say one suspect was shot and police were able to catch him, but two of the robbers are still on the run. a man is lucky to be alive after getting trapped in a sinkhole. he felt ten feet but used his cell phone to call for help. this happened friday night outside of pittsburgh. police stopped trains to stop the ground from shaking. they used a harness is to get him out. riders stuck up at one of the -- one of coney island's most famous attract shuns. while the roller coaster was shut down soon after it opened for the season. they lace them up and hid the hardwood. this was more about competition. some of the biggest names in the music industry are competing for top hop oors

indiana's governor is defending a controversial new law. now, supporters say it protects religious freedom. critics call it legal cover for discrimination. governor mike pence says the law is not going to change but he supports legislation to clarify it. nbc's brian moore has the latest. >> reporter: the outcries against indiana's religious freedom restoration act are getting louder. timing monday and tuesday, not watchouts by any means, but the timing of the rain could impact the commute. overall for this week temperatures feel like spring. not just one day, but ifr day on the seven day for the most part. i am tracking the threat of some rain on easter weekend. your weather impacts for tomorrow morning, some showers could slow that morning commute but the evening commute is just fine. you want to exercise outdoors, dry conditions for everybody by the late morning hours, jobbing weather monday night. just heading out and about to runner rands, make you'll want a light jan, long sleeves, you'll be just fine. tomorrow afternoon i think will be really nice. temperatures are coming in in the 40s. washington 4s 43 in gaithersburg one of the cooler spots and 50 degrees back in cumberland. clear skies right now, but notice on the satellite and radar clouds are moving in and

well this one looked like it was going to be a nail-biter until all of a sudden it wasn't. >> if only we got this kind of effort from start to finish yesterday from the capitals it would have been a great weekend. nice job rebounding by the guys. most hockey players that go three games without collecting a single point probably wouldn't receive too much criticism, but alex ovechkin isn't your average hockey player. so when the great 8 has a mini slump, it makes headlines.
