college parkway. we did get an update. the officer had several surgeries and still in critical condition. >> new information about a suspect in a deadly crime spree at census bureau. they were set to appear on assault charges. he kidnapped his girlfriend and kidnapped a guard and shot at police. the chaotic moments after the shooting from the neighbor. >> i heard a lot of commotion. >> jeanette was scared when he heard police banging on her neighbor's door. >> i was afraid what was going on. >> she had no clue he was in critical condition at a hospital after he got into a shootout with officers. anderson kidnapped his girlfriend in northeast d.c. and drove her to the census bureau where they say he shot and killed a security guard.

he left the d.c. police and he started shooting at officers. police chased anderson to h street northeast. the mayhem ended with a crash and lots of gunfire. >> it happened here in the middle. >> carmen manages the supper club. it caused her to cancel an event. >> how much did you all lose? >> probably between 3,000 to $4,000. >> a cell phone was in anderson's car. he has been charge with kidnapping and not charged with the killing of the security guard. >> the 59-year-old was a husband and a father and a grandfather. he was married for 36 years and served in the army before spending person 20 years in security. he worked for the security as an

officer for nearly two years and stationed at the census bureau. they said we considered the man a hero who died in the line of duty. we led up to that crime spree on the nbc washington app. president obama will mead with raul castro in panama. they shook hands at the summit of americas. they are expected to discuss u.s. and cuba relations and talk about the u.s. removing cube from the terror list. >> family and friends will say a final goodbye to a man who was shot and killed by a police officer. the family is suing the officer for excessive force. >> the moment walter scott decided to bolt from his car

scott was trying just to get away from the tazer. >> another person who was there might know more. minutes after the chase started, a second officer removes a passenger from walter scott's car, pats him down and speaks with him. the officer writes the passenger was detained and placed in the back seat of my vehicle. that passenger is not named in police documents, but they confirm they have spoken with him. nbc news south carolina. >> today will be a perfect day for the cherry blossom festival. it will begin at 10:00 this morning and last until 1:00. they will step off of the seventh street and constitution avenue. this is when you will see today since the blossoms are in peak bloom. lots of streets will be closed downtown for the parade so you can take metro.

who was on a horse from southern california deputies. our sister station in los angeles capturing the video. he is repeatedly kicked and punched. he ran from police and stole that horse. this morning his mother is defending his decision to take off. >> i'm proud of my son. because i have run from cops too. i have seen too much happen lately. >> attorneys for francis say after the beating a deputy told him this is not over. he is still very swollen and bruise and cannot remember everything that happened. ten deputies were placed on leave. >> they have to move a giant boulder in the middle of the highway and weighs 1500 tons and tumbled on to the highway.

back at 6:15 and illinois neighbors are expected to return to their homes to see what's left following a tornado that killed two women. it hit thursday 80 miles west of chicago. miguel takes a closer look at the damage. >> oh, my gosh. >> this was the killer tornado that barrelled through northern illinois. >> he's over! he's over! >> a 50-mile path of destruction across the heartland.

wind speeds at nearly 200 miles per hour. a monster storm, possibly a half mile wide. >> we were talking a tornado in progress. they have never seen anything like it. in the bull's-eye the town of fair dale. no tiresirens between life and death. >> unbelievable. >> two women were neighbors and friends and discovered inside their homes. >> it was unbelievable. >> they chased the storm and helped the victims. >> we helped as many people as we could until the rescue got there. >> 15 miles away the town is in pieces homes stripped off their slabs and memories and keep sakes scattered. this is where the restaurant stood. the others scrambled 12 people into the basement and the tornado came in.
